  • Grails + GAE - Issue using app.servlet.version=2.5

    Updating the servlet version in application.properties to 2.5 has no affect on the generated web.xml. The generated web.xml is still version 2.4. app.servlet.version=2.5 Also, if I try to execute "run-app" I get the exception below: Running Grails application..   • Perl Script in background

    I have a perl script i made to automatically telnet into different servers . but its interface is only command line. To make it more user friendly for general windows users , i need to make GUI for it . My idea is to make GUI in a language like VB,java ,etc and let that call perl script . my script will run in background in a command prompt and whatever the result it displays back in GUI. Got some success. GUI in vb ,I run an instance of CMD in background ,run perl script in that .But that is wer program fails .As perl script runs in a thread for perl , i only get the output when script completes(rather say when it timeout). i need a mechanism where i can interact with the perl script , take output of script and show to user , then take input from user and so on . Please can you all suggest me some way to actually make this happen. PS: No limitation on using any language for GUI (as core work is done by perl script,GUI only there to give appropriate commands to script) Thanks in advance

    This sample app ("thoughtsite") for App Engine contains a pom.xml in its trunk: http://code.google.com/p/thoughtsite/source/browse/#svn/trunk I ran mvn eclipse:eclipse and also tried using m2eclipse to import this source code into an Eclipse project.   • Programmatically configure MATLAB

    Since MathWorks release a new version of MATLAB every six months, it's a bit of hassle having to set up the latest version each time. What I'd like is an automatic way of configuring MATLAB, to save wasting time on administrative hassle. The sorts of things I usually do when I get a new version are: Add commonly used directories to the path. Create some toolbar shortcuts. Change some GUI preferences. The first task is easy to accomplish programmatically with addpath and savepath. The next two are not so simple. Details of shortcuts are stored in the file 'shortcuts.xml' in the folder given by prefdir. My best idea so far is to use one of the XML toolboxes in the MATLAB Central File Exchange to read in this file, add some shortcut details and write them back to file. This seems like quite a lot of effort, and that usually means I've missed an existing utility function. Is there an easier way of (programmatically) adding shortcuts? Changing the GUI preferences seems even trickier. preferences just opens the GUI preference editor (equivalent to File - Preferences); setpref doesn't seems to cover GUI options. The GUI preferences are stored in matlab.prf (again in prefdir); this time in traditional name=value config style. I could try overwriting values in this directly, but it isn't always clear what each line does, or how much the names differ between releases, or how broken MATLAB will be if this file contains dodgy values. I realise that this is a long shot, but are the contents of matlab.prf documented anywhere? Or is there a better way of configuring the GUI? For extra credit, how do you set up your copy of MATLAB? Are there any other tweaks I've missed, that it is possible to alter via a script?

  • WPF app startup problems

    My brain is all over the map trying to fully understand Unity right now. So I decided to just dive in and start adding it in a branch to see where it takes me. Surprisingly enough (or maybe not), I am stuck just getting my darn Application to load properly. It seems like the right way to do this is to override OnStartup in App.cs. I've removed my StartupUri from App.xaml so it doesn't create my GUI XAML. My App.cs now looks something like this: public partial class App : Application { private IUnityContainer container { get; set; } protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { container = new UnityContainer(); GUI gui = new GUI(); gui.Show(); } protected override void OnExit(ExitEventArgs e) { container.Dispose(); base.OnExit(e); } } The problem is that nothing happens when I start the app! I put a breakpoint at the container assignment, and it never gets hit. What am I missing? App.xaml is currently set to ApplicationDefinition, but I'd expect this to work because some sample Unity + WPF code I'm looking at (from Codeplex) does the exact same thing, except that it works! I've also started the app by single-stepping, and it eventually hits the first line in App.xaml. When I step into this line, that's when the app just starts "running", but I don't see anything (and my breakpoint isn't hit). If I do the exact same thing in the sample application, stepping into App.xaml puts me right into OnStartup, which is what I'd expect to happen. Argh! Is it a Bad Thing to just put the Unity construction in my GUI's Window_Loaded event handler? Does it really need to be at the App level?

  • Interrupting a thread from inside a runnable class? (java)

    I am trying to set up a method inside a class that implements the runnable interface that will set the interrupt status of that class. The reason i want to be able to do it from inside the class is there is some other clean up stuff that i need to take care of as well, and i would like to be able to do it all by calling one method instead of calling, for example: Gui gui = new Gui() // class that implements runnable Thread guiThread = new Thread(gui, "gui thread"); guiThread.start() ... ... guiThread.interrupt(); gui.cancel(); Currently my cancel code looks like this, however it isn't correctly setting the interrupt status of this thread. public void cancel() { Thread.currentThread().interrupt(); // other clean up code here. } Any advice on if/how i could get this working? Thanks. EDIT: I when i tried to get the cancel working, i commented out the guiThread.interrupt(), so that i wasn't just setting the status the reseting the status.

  • Magento, NGINX, PHP-FPM, APC, MEMCACHED, 16gb Ram CentOS, Spiking PHP-FPM to 100% CPU

    I have been trying to resolve my issue of spiking cpu caused by php-fpm processes. I've reduced the php-fpm config settings to: pm = ondemand pm.max_children = 12 pm.start_servers = 2 pm.min_spare_servers = 2 pm.max_spare_servers = 10 pm.max_requests = 500 php_admin_value[memory_limit] = 128M Problem still exists. I'm running a Joomla main site (which is having no problems) and a Magento store in a sub-directory. My server is a Linux CentOS, running NGINX, APC, Memcached, Full Page Cache and php-fpm. My server has 8 cores and 16gb dedicated ram. My host has shut down my server several times the past week because my php-fpm processes are consuming the entire network. A lot of the individual php-fpm processes are getting over 50% cpu. I've hired several "professionals" and none of them was able to help me, so now broke and stumped, I'm turning to you guys for help. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. table_cache=4096 I just noticed that someone changed my innodb_buffer_pool_size to 512M. Shouldn't this be set to 80% of available ram? So I have 16gb ram so it should be set at 12G; however, I set it at 10G. What do you think? I made that change and restart everything. Php-fpm is still spiking cpu.     My dream setup: php 5.3.6 + mysql 5.5.10 on Apache2, FastCGI, PHP-FPM, APC with nginx 1.0 front end reverse proxy. And as free server management panel: Virtualmin GPL on centos 5.6 In a new centos 5.6 setup. Using this code for installing virtualmin: wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh chmod +x install.sh ./install.sh After setup, i see php is 5.1 and mysql is 5.0 version. And system not supporting php-fpm but supporting fcgid wrapper. So i had php 5.3.6 + mysql 5.5.10 with PHP-FPM, APC installed. But virtualmin not supporting PHP-FPM + fastcgi and its still running on fcgid. I am ultra newbie on server management so i couldnt find workaround after this. I want to switch fcgid wrapper to PHP-FPM + fastcgi at least for 1 virtual server. And if i can find a fix for this section, i want to setup nginx 1.0 as front end reverse proxy for serving static files and passing php files to apache. http://nginxcp.com/ is what i want but its for cpanel.

I think, sudo is defeating here. I'd rather use a mix of setgid/setuid directories and add ACL here and there but I really need to know what are the best practices before starting up. Our servers have %admin, %production, %dba, %users -i.e many groups and many users. Each service (mysql, apache, ...) has its own way to install privileges but members of the %production group must be able to consult configuration file or even log files. There is still the solution to add them into the right groups (mysql...) and set the good permission. But I do not want to usermod all users, I do not want to modify standards permissions since it could change after each upgrade. On the other hand, setting acls and/or mixing setuid/setgid on directories is something I could easily do without "defacing" the standard distribution. What do you think about this ? Taking the mysql example, that would look like this: setfacl d:g:production:rx,d:other::---,g:production:rx,other::--- /var/log/mysql /etc/mysql Do you think this is good practise or should I definetely usermod -G mysql and play with standard permissions system ?     When I'm executing the following statement in Magento with a really large $sku, the execution terminates without any errors thrown what so ever. There are no errors in either Magento's, Apache's or PHP's error logs. Mage::getModel('catalog/product')-loadByAttribute('sku', $sku); Question: How do I catch the error? I've tried to set custom error handlers, and for testing purposes I've also managed to trigger error situations where each of the error handler functions are invoked. But when running the previously mentioned Magento code with a large $sku, none of the error handling functions are executed. error_reporting( -1 ); set_error_handler( array( 'Error', 'captureNormal' ) ); set_exception_handler( array( 'Error', 'captureException' ) ); register_shutdown_function( array( 'Error', 'captureShutdown' ) ); For completeness, this is the $sku I'm passing to loadByAttribute().   • VMWare workstation: from command line, how to start a VM in service mode (run in background)?

    Hi, I have tried the vmrun and vmware.exe executables, but both of them start the vmware GUI when starting the VM. What I want to do is start the VM without starting the VMWare GUI. The reason I am doing this is after a few hours of idle, the guest OS becomes sluggish. It has lots of RAM but the only way I found to keep it's responsiveness optimal is to shutdown(dumps the memory) and the start; a restart of the guest OS doesnt dump the memory so I need to be able to do a stop of the VM, and then a start. So far the command I use are: C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstationvmrun stop F:\VirtualMachines\R2\R2.vmx C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstationvmrun start F:\VirtualMachines\R2\R2.vmx But the start command actually starts the VMWare Workstation GUI, which I don't need. I'm looking for a solution to start the VM without the VMWare Wokstation GUI, or a solution to what is causing the VM to become sluggish after a few hours of running idle.

  • Migrating from Apache2 to Lighttpd creating errors in PHP/mySQL?

    Ok, I've been using basics ubuntu LAMP setups for years now, and I wanted to give lighttpd a try. My LAMP setup run in a virtual machine with scripts running just fine. So I created a new virtual machine, starting with a fresh install of ubuntu and made my setups. On this new VM, lighttpd + php works just fine. (Or at least it seems...) Problem occurs when I take the scripts from my LAMP setup and upload them to the new VM. I'm getting : Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: NO) My lighttpd setup is configured as php-cgi but not my apache2 setup. Could this be the source of the problem? I think that scripts would be independent of the server configuration, so I doubt it. Also, I know that my DB connexion informations are good (as I can log in via phpmyadmin perfectly). I'm in the dark here, any pointers ? Thanks,

    Ok so I'm making a "simple" web app using the technologies from the topic, recently I found http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex_hibernate.html so I'm following it and I try to apply it to my app, the only difference being I'm working on a Mac and I'm using MAMP for the database (so no command line for me). The thing is I'm having some trouble with retrieving/connecting to the database. I have the remoting-config.xml, persistance.xml, a News.java class (my Entity), a NewsService.java class, a News.as class - all just like in the tutorial.     Patch file is made with TopirtiseSVN - Create Patch... Attempting to import patch into the mercurial repository using hg import patchfile. The problem I'm running into is that there seems to be problems with how hg looks for files referenced in the patch file: unable to find 'gui/gui/RemoteFramework.cpp' for patching 2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file gui/gui/RemoteFramwork.cpp.rej Seems to be an issue of where the patch was made in terms of directories and where it should be applied. Have tried playing with the --base option for hg import, but haven't gotten anywhere just yet. Anyone have any tips?

My ideia is to develop some tools (in PHP) for my intranet at work and I want them to be accessible via LAN in this format: http://tools.mycompany.com I've already placed BIND and I can access http://tools.mycompany.com on the machine that holds BIND server, but I cannot access it from other LAN computers.     I want to set up an Oracle Linux 6 server that gives users secure IMAP email (with dovecot), Jabber IM, FTP (with vsftpd), and calDav. However, I want each user logon to be able to authenticate all services (e.g. Joe Smith signs up once for a username and password that he can use for email, ftp, and his calendar). My question is, which database service will be best suited for that application? Also, is there a way to link the database with the preexisting server shell logins (e.g. so I can read the root account's LogCheck emails on a different device)?
