• VS2012 - How to manually convert .NET Class Library to a Portable Class Library

  The portable libraries are the  response to the growing profile fragmentation in .NET frameworks. With help of portable libraries you can share code between different runtimes without dreadful #ifdef PLATFORM statements or even worse “Add as Link” source file sharing practices. If you have an existing .net class library which you would like to reference from a different runtime (e.g. you have a .NET Framework 4.5 library which you would like to reference from a Windows Store project), you can either create a new portable class library and move the classes there or edit the existing .csproj file and change the XML directly. The following example shows how to convert a .NET Framework 4.5 library to a Portable Class Library. • ADExplorer, how to search with "distinguishedName contains" condition?

  I'm using ADExplorer 1.42 from Microsoft. I'm not very versed at this program so please kindly help me out with a search-related problem. Right click on a node(e.g., CN=NlscanStaff) and select Search Container... , with default search attributes, I can see all objects inside NlscanStaff listed as result. Note that there is a CN=CHJTEST object listed. Now, my question is, how to search for CHJTEST specifically? I tried search condition: Attribute : distinguishedName Relation : contains Value : CN=CHJTEST Click Add , then Search . But no result. Can someone tell me what's going wrong? Thanks.

• Re-deploy Reports on SCOM Management Packs

  I've migrated Reporting Services on a SCOM 2007 R2 install, and noticed that the reports have not being copied. I can create a new report, but the ones I've had because of the management packs are gone. I've tried re-applying the Management Packs however it doesn't re-deploy them and when I try to access for example: Monitoring - Microsoft Windows Print Server - Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 Print Services - State View - select any item and click Alerts on the right menu. I get the following error: Date: 12/24/2010 12:40:35 PM Application: System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Application Version: 6.1.7221.0 Severity: Error Message: Cannot initialize report. Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportServerException: The item '/Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Report.Library/Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Report.Alert' cannot be found. (rsItemNotFound) at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ServerReport.GetExecutionInfo() at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ServerReport.GetParameters() at Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Mom.Internal.UI.Reporting.Parameters.ReportParameterBlock.Initialize(ServerReport serverReport) at Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Mom.Internal.UI.Console.ReportForm.SetReportJob(Object sender, ConsoleJobEventArgs args) The report doesn't exist on the reporting services side. how do I re-deploy this reports?   I'm using MySQL and I need to create an account that can connect from either the localhost of from another server, 10.1.1.1. So I am doing: CREATE USER 'bob'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password123'; CREATE USER 'bob'@'10.1.1.1 IDENTIFIED BY 'password123'; GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE on MyDatabse.* to 'bob'@'localhost', 'bob'@'10.1.1.1; This works fine, but is there any more elegant way to create a user account that is linked to multiple IPs or does it need to be done this way? My main worry is that in the future permissions will be updated form 'bob' account and not the other.

  Possible Duplicate: How do you run windows explorer as a different user? Is it possible to start a Windows Explorer with the rights of another domain user? I tried to do the following to start a Windows Explorer on my computer as my domain Administrator, but without success: Right click on C:\Windows\explorer.exe to select Run as different user, Enter the domain administrator credentials: Domain\Administrator ************ The windows explorer session only opens with my current user rights (Domain\me). The reason behind my question is that I want to change some folder rights on a domain shared disk and I need the Domain\Administrator user rights to do it. Usually, I do it by login as Domain\Administrator on the server hosting the shared disk but I would like to be able to do it from my PC, logged as my current login (Domain\me). EDIT As seen in the linked posts, it is not possible anymore on Windows Vista or 7. On Windows XP, the solution is to do: runas /user:domain\username "explorer /separate"

• Black screen after grub kernal selection menu

  I have an Acer eMachines e727 with Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics (drivers updated to latest). I installed Ubuntu 12.04 using Wubi. All is well until I select the kernal (first one on the list). My display goes black. I searched for solutions and found one on Unbuntu forum which partially helped. Following that sticky post, I pressed "e" at the kernal listings. I changed the $Linux... default line to "quiet splash nomodeset" and was able to get to the login screen and desktop. I edited grub to make the nomodeset permanent (also removed the vt command as recommended). I followed through with changing grub to match the graphics as recommended in the article using the grub cli (using info from vbeinfo). I updated grub with the recommended settings but still get the black screen after selecting the kernal. Only nomodeset works to get me to the login and desktop. Once I get to the desktop, my display resolution shows being set to 1024x768 but it actually looks like 800x680. What do I need to do to get past these issues? Thanks!

• Available Instance types for marketplace ami's

  I based my autoscaling AMI's on the Turnkey Linux nginx AMI from the marketplace. I am now unable to select any of the newer generation instance types; for instance, my autoscaling uses m3.large type but I'd really like it to use the c3.xlarge type but every time I try to create a c3.xlarge instance with my AMI I get errors; The instance configuration for this AWS Marketplace product is not supported. My question is; Can I override this? I'm not using TKL support or any of their services, just the AMI. If I can't override it, do I have any other options besides creating a brand new AMI from scratch to use?

• How to repair the boot selection on grub?

  I had installed on my computer as a dual-boot: Debian Squeeze and Windows XP, so I decided to install Windows 8 just to test and then I would remove it and install in its place Debian Wheezy as dual-boot with Windows XP, that was already installed. During the Debian Wheezy installation, I deleted the Windows 8 partition to install Debian W. on its place. The problem is, that after the installation finished I rebooted the computer and on the grub menu was written: Debian Wheezy and Windows 8 (loader) - this Windows 8 (loader) is a boot manager as grub, and after the Win8 installation I was capable of choose between Win8 and WinXP. And when I select Windows 8 (loader) it says the Windows 8 is corrupted and is not possible to boot Windows XP. So, after that, I would like to know, how can I get Windows XP on the grub menu? Because I know its there (the Windows XP), but I can not boot it from grub. Observation: I already tried update-grub, but it only finds Debian W. and Windows 8.

• hdmi AC-3 audio broke after upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04.3

  I just updated my MythBuntu 11.10 to 12.04.3. Now, when I try to play 5.1 content (ripped DVD), my TV (and receiver) plays a "chattering" sound. I check my receiver and the digital dolby light isn't on--it's in PCM mode. So, either the audio is getting sent as AC-3, but the TV and receiver think it's PCM or the AC-3 audio got converted to multichannel PCM and they can't handle it. My setup: hdmi cable from htpc to TV. TV has an s/pdif output to my receiver. I know TV sends AC-3 audio out correctly because I see digital dolby light come on when I view a digital TV channel and PCM come on when I view an old analog channel. I can connect s/pdif from my htpc to my receiver and the digital dolby light comes on and it can decode the audio just fine. It's just not sending it right over hdmi. Now for some hints to the issue: I noticed in MythTV audio setup when I select alsa:hdmi.... the description only lists 2 channel PCM audio capability. speaker-test -Dhdmi:PCH -c6 errors about a bad channel count (only -c2 works). Finally, I tried vlc and it does the same chattering sound. These all make me think this isn't a MythTV issue, it's something lower than that. I think the best way to troubleshoot this is to start at the drivers and check each layer, one at a time all the way to alsa. I just don't know what the layers are and how to do it. So, I need to find some audio troubleshooting guide to assist me. Or, if one doesn't exist, I'd appreciate some steps. Thanks much, Jim

But when I try to do a mysqldump of the database or a SELECT * INTO OUTFILE "filename" FROM broken_table; it seems to endlessly just export the same line over and over again. I have also tried http://code.google.com/p/innodb-tools/. But this tool fails with an error that 'blob' type is not supported. If I try to access the data using the PHP application it crashes MySQL: `100603 19:19:19 - mysqld got signal 11 ; This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built, or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware. • How to Audit and Monitor BI Publisher Reports Access?

  Do you know who is accessing to which report at what time at your reporting environment ? As you delivered the BI Publisher reports to the production environment and your users start using them as part of their daily business operations you might wonder such questions. With compliance becoming an integral part of any business requirement, auditing your reporting environment is also becoming one of the most critical and hot agenda in today’s enterprise reporting deployments. Also, I believe that auditing the reporting environment is not just for the compliance, but also the way to understand how your users are using the reports and be able to improve the user reporting experience. BI Publisher have introduced Enterprise Level Auditing feature with its 11G release, with an integration of Oracle Fusion Middleware Audit Framework, which comes out of the box with the installation. Yes, this is another great example of the benefit of its tight integration with Fusion Middleware introduced with BI Publisher 11g release. What Information Can I Know about our Reporting Environment? With this new Auditing feature you can now gain the following insights. When a particular user login or logout What report is accessed by who and when and how How long does it take to process a particular report Yes, it’s all there. This is a great news for 10G users, right ? I used to be one of them working with many different IT organizations and were craving for this, but it’s here now with 11G! How Can I Access to the Auditing Information? With the Fusion Middleware Auditing Framework, BI Publisher feed such information either to a log file or to a database. If you decided to get the data into the database then, of course you know, you can use BI Publisher to report and publish, or visualize the data to gain more insights. One thing though, in order to feed the data it requires a few extra steps, which I’ll cover it later.  Regardless of whether it’s the log file or the database to store the Auditing data, first, you need to enable the Auditing feature, which is not enabled as default. So, let’s take a look at how to enable it. How to Enable Auditing Feature? Here is a quick list of the steps: Enable Auditing related properties in BI Publisher configuration file Copy component_events.xml file to Fusion Middleware Audit Framework’s location Enable Auditing Policy with Fusion Middleware Control (Enterprise Manager) Restart WebLogic Server Enable Auditing related properties in BI Publisher configuration file Open xmlp-server-config.xml file, which is located under $BI_HOME/ user_projects/domains/bifoundation_domain/config/bipublisher/repository/Admin/Configuration directory. Set the following three properties values to ‘true’. AUDIT_ENABLED MONITORING_ENABLED AUDIT_JPS_INTEGRATION The ‘AUDIT_JPS_INTEGRATION’ is not in the file as default, so you need to add this. Enable Auditing Policy with Fusion Middleware Control (EM) Now you can set a level of the auditing for each BI Publisher’s auditing type by using Fusion Middleware Control (a.k.a. Enterprise Manager). 1. Login to Fusion Middleware Control UI http://hostname:port/em (e.g. reporting.oracle.com:7001/em) 2. Access to Audit Policy configuration UI from the menu Under WebLogic Domain, right-click bifoundation_domain, select Security and then click Audit Policy.   3. Set Audit Level for BI Publisher. While you can select ‘Custom’ to set a customized level of Auditing for each component, I’m selecting ‘Medium’ for this exercise.   Restart WebLogic Server After all the above settings, now you need to restart the WebLogic Server instance in order to take those changes in effect. If you’re on Windows you can simply do this by selecting ‘Stop BI Servers’ and ‘Start BI Servers’ from the Start menu. Yes, every login and log out will be recorded, and every report access will be recorded in this log file. Now, looking at this text file to understand what’s going on is pretty overwhelming. And accessing to this log file, which is located at the server’s file system where the BI Publisher/WebLogic Server are running, is another challenge in typical deployment scenarios. And that’s where the database storage option for the Auditing data  comes into a picture. I’ll talk about this tomorrow, so stay tuned!

• Replicate Oracle to MySQL

  I am developing a web apps, this web application will be using MySQL. Now I need to replicate my client's Oracle database into MySQL, only a few tables will be involved.. a table can be up to 2-3 million rows. I only have SELECT privilege on this Oracle, so don't ask me to install any kind of service on the Oracle machine. I have complete control on the MySQL side however. The replication is only one way (Oracle to MySQL). I can write a simple script to truncate MySQL table and repopulate it every night but I think this is very inefficient, there must be a better way. Is there any free tools I can use? Expensive database replication system is definitely out of the question.

  The sys.dm_db_stats_properties Dynamic Management Function returns information about the statistics that are currently on your database objects. This function takes two parameters, an object_id and a stats_id. Let’s have a look at the result set from this function against the AdventureWorks2012.Sales.SalesOrderHeader table. To obtain the object_id and stats_id I will use a CROSS APPLY with the sys.stats system table. SELECT sp.* FROM sys.stats s CROSS APPLY sys.dm_db_stats_properties(s.object_id, s.Stats_id) sp WHERE sp.object_id = object_id('Sales.SalesOrderHeader') The first two columns returned by this function are the object_id and the stats_id columns. The next column, ‘last_updated’, gives you the date and the time that a particular statistic was last updated. The next column, ‘rows’, gives you the total number of rows in the table as of the last statistic update date. The ‘rows_sampled’ column gives you the number of rows that were sampled to create the statistic. The ‘steps’ column represents the number of specific value ranges from the statistic histogram. The ‘unfiltered_rows’ column represents the number of rows before any filters are applied. If a particular statistic is not filtered, the ‘unfiltered_rows’ column will always equal the ‘rows’ column. Lastly we have the ‘modification_counter’ column which represents the number of modification to the leading column in a given statistic since the last time the statistic was updated. Probably the most important column from this Dynamic Management Function is the ‘last_updated’ column. You want to always ensure that you have accurate and updated statistics on your database objects. Accurate statistics are vital for the query optimizer to generate efficient and reliable query execution plans. Without accurate and updated statistics, the performance of your SQL Server would likely suffer.   Many years ago I wrote article SQL SERVER – Get a List of Fixed Hard Drive and Free Space on Server where I demonstrated using undocumented Stored Procedure to find the drive letter in local system and available free space. I received question in email from reader asking if there any way he can list directory structure within the T-SQL. When I inquired more he suggested that he needs this because he wanted set up backup of the data in certain structure. Well, there is one undocumented stored procedure exists which can do the same. However, please be vary to use any undocumented procedures. xp_dirtree 'C:\Windows' Execution of the above stored procedure will give following result. If you prefer you can insert the data in the temptable and use the same for further use. Here is the quick script which will insert the data into the temptable and retrieve from the same. • Setting Up Multiple Domains (plus wildcard subdomains) to Point to the Same Site/VirtualHost

  I have my primary domain with wildcard subdomains setup already. username.maindomain.com and maindomain.com I want to provide my users with additional domains that they can select. additional1.com, additional2.com, additional3.com... These additional domains would also need to support wildcard subdomains (as the subdomains route to a username). Anyone know how to properly configure this in DNS and VirtualHost config? Currently I have the additional domains as A records pointing to the same IP as my main domain (with a wildcard subdomain A record for each as well). In my VirtualHost config I am placing the additional domain names in the ServerAlias directive. Let me know if any more detail is needed.

• Getting GTalk and Alt-Tab to play nice

  I'm running GTalk on Windows 7, and it refuses to work properly with Alt-Tab. Let's say I've got 2 message windows open (msg1 and msg2) and the contact list, as well as Firefox. Alt-tab from Firefox to msg1 works, but now the contact list is the most recent thing in the alt-tab list (not Firefox as expected). Then there's the problem that I can't use alt-tab to select a specific message window, and when switching back to msg2 (showing msg2 in the alt-tab window) it might switch back and have focus on msg1. I found this thread complaining about the same problem, but it's over a year old, and I'm hoping some progress has been made.

  It is widely know that data modifications on table variables do not support parallelism, Peter Larsson has a good example of that here .  Whilst tracking down a performance issue,  I saw that using the OUTPUT clause also causes parallelism to not be used. By way of example,  first lets create two tables with a simple parent and child (one to one) relationship, and then populate them with 100,000 rows. Drop table ParentDrop table Childgocreate table Parent(id integer identity Primary Key,data1 char(255))Create Table Child(id integer Primary Key)goinsert into Parent(data1)Select top 1000000 NULL from sys.columns a cross join sys.columns b insert into ChildSelect id from Parentgo If we then execute update Parent set data1 =''from Parentjoin Child on Parent.Id = Child.Id where Parent.Id %100 =1 and Child.id %100 =1 We should see an execution plan using parallelism such as   However,  if the OUTPUT clause is now used update Parent set data1 =''output inserted.idfrom Parentjoin Child on Parent.Id = Child.Id where Parent.Id %100 =1 and Child.id %100 =1   The execution plan shows that Parallelism was not used Make of that what you will, but i thought that this was a pretty unexpected outcome. Update : Laurence Hoff has mailed me to note that when the OUTPUT results are captured to a temporary table using the INTO clause,  then parallelism is used.  Naturally if you use a table variable then there is still no parallelism

• How to disable Winamp agent in the taskbar?

  I remember the days when I could right click on the Winamp icon in the Windows taskbar, and select "Disable Winamp Agent", and it would actually disable and not appear again. This no longer seems to work on Windows 7 (or maybe Windows in general). Every time I restart my PC, it appears in the taskbar again. I like having my icons displaying in the taskbar. Which is why I have "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" checked off. I have Winamp v5.571 installed on Windows 7 Ultimate. How do I properly turnoff the Winamp agent from appearing in the Windows taskbar? Right-click to disable doesn't work!

• Developing a long pannable, sprite-animated Windows Store app

  I am creating my first Windows Store app in XAML, and I cannot seem to find a proper example for the requirements I have (I have spent a couple of days fiddling around, so I apologize if I missed something obvious). Basic idea of the app is to have a large scrollable canvas which would lazily start animating visible parts of the view as soon as user stops panning over a certain content (with some audio played also): My original idea was to use a StackPanel to add a bunch of custom controls, each of which would then animate itself once visible (with a short delay), but I have a couple of concerns: If the entire canvas is ~50 screen widths wide, is it feasible to load all content at the beginning, or do I need to plan doing some lazy loading during scrolling? For example, when I select a certain region in the Bing Travel app, it seems to lazily load tiles as I scroll it towards the end. Since content is stretched 100% vertically, and these animations are vectorized to be resolution independent, I am not sure if XAML (CompositionTarget) will be able to handle this, or I have to go for DirectX (MonoGame or C++) to get rid of flicker. Even better, is there an example for Windows 8 which uses a 100% vertically sized GridView with custom animated controls inside?

  I have 1 master mysql process, and 2 slave. Today on both slaves i see : Error 'Table 'bgbilling.contract_status_balance_dump' already exists' on query. Default database: 'bgbilling'. Query: 'CREATE TABLE contract_status_balance_dump( UNIQUE(cid) ) SELECT cid, MAX(yy*12+(mm-1))%12 + 1 AS mm,FLOOR(MAX(yy*12+(mm-1)) / 12) AS yy FROM contract_balance GROUP BY cid' "show tables" does not show this table. I tryed stop slave , and do "drop table contract_status_balance_dump" but: ERROR 1051 (42S02): Unknown table 'contract_status_balance_dump' How its possible? And how fix that?

• Windows 7 - Windows get autoselected

  I have a really annoying problem in Windows 7. I just updated Windows vista to Windows 7 32bit The problem is that every second the top windows is being selected. To explain better what happens: I open task manager and leave it there, then i select a icon on desktop, after 1 second, the icon is deselected and Task Manager windows is selected. Also i see windows borders blinking, every second. This is Annoying, because every time i do a right click or selecting a menu in any application, every second the menu get closed... I do not know what is doing this, i searched in task manager for some 'bad' application running, but seems ok, tried closing all programs but it's still there. If i restart the computer first i don't get that problem, but after a while it start.. I noticed that When using Visual Studio Express 2012, but i don't think is the problem, because also if i close VS the problem remains. Hope you can help me, i'm getting hungry!! It's annoying!
