• Event Handlers Not Getting Called? - wxWidgets & C++

  Hello all, I'm working on a program for my C++ programming class, using wxWidgets. I'm having a huge problem in that my event handlers (I assume) are not getting called, because when I click on the button to trigger the event, nothing happens. My question is: Can you help me find the problem and explain why they would not be getting called? The event handlers OnAbout and OnQuit are working, just not OnCompute or OnClear. I'm really frustrated as I can't figure this out. • How can I make a jQuery UI 'draggable()' div draggable for touchscreen?

  I have a jQuery UI draggable() that works in Firefox and Chrome. The user interface concept is basically click to create a "post-it" type item. Basically, I click or tap on div#everything (100% high and wide) that listens for clicks, and an input textarea displays. You add text, and then when you're done it saves it. You can drag this element around. That is working on normal browsers, but on an iPad I can test with I can't drag the items around. If I touch to select (it then dims slightly), I can't then drag it. It won't drag left or right at all. I can drag up or down, but I'm not dragging the individual div, I'm dragging the whole webpage. • What is the right tool to detect VMT or heap corruption in Delphi ?

  I'm a member in a team that use Delphi 2007 for a larger application and we suspect heap corruption because sometimes there are strange bugs that have no other explanation. I believe that the Rangechecking option for the compiler is only for arrays. I want a tool that give an exception or log when there is a write on a memory address that is not allocated by the application. Unfortunately I think that the solution is deeper than that. We use a patched version of Bold for Delphi as we own the source. Probably there are some errors introduced in the Bold framwork. Yes we have a log with callstacks that are handled by JCL and also trace messages. EDIT3: The theory right now is that the Virtual Memory Table (VMT) is somehow broken. When this happen there is no indication of it. Only when a method is called an exception is raised (ALWAYS on address FFFFFFDD, -35 decimal) but then it is too late. You don't know the real cause for the error. Any hint of how to catch a bug like this is really appreciated!!! We have tried with SafeMM, but the problem is that the memory consumption is too high even when the 3 GB flag is used. So now I try to give a bounty to the SO community :) EDIT4: One hint is that according the log there is often (or even always) another exception before this. It can be for example optimistic locking in the database. We have tried to raise exceptions by force but in test environment it just works fine. EDIT5: Story continues... I did a search on the logs for the last 30 days now. The result: "Read of address FFFFFFDB" 0 "Read of address FFFFFFDC" 24 "Read of address FFFFFFDD" 270 "Read of address FFFFFFDE" 22 "Read of address FFFFFFDF" 7 "Read of address FFFFFFE0" 20 "Read of address FFFFFFE1" 0 So the current theory is that an enum (there is a lots in Bold) overwrite a pointer. I got 5 hits with different address above. It could mean that the enum holds 5 values where the second one is most used. If there is an exception a rollback should occur for the database and Boldobjects should be destroyed. Maybe there is a chance that not everything is destroyed and a enum still can write to an address location. If this is true maybe it is possible to search the code by a regexpr for an enum with 5 values ? EDIT6: To summarize, no there is no solution to the problem yet. I realize that I may mislead you a bit with the callstack. Yes there are a timer in that but there are other callstacks without a timer. Sorry for that. But there are 2 common factors. An exception with Read of address FFFFFFxx. Top of callstack is System.TObject.InheritsFrom (sys\system.pas:9237) This convince me that VilleK best describe the problem. I'm also convinced that the problem is somewhere in the Bold framework. But the BIG question is, how can problems like this be solved ? It is not enough to have an Assert like VilleK suggest as the damage has already happened and the callstack is gone at that moment. So to describe my view of what may cause the error: Somewhere a pointer is assigned a bad value 1, but it can be also 0, 2, 3 etc. An object is assigned to that pointer. There is method call in the objects baseclass. This cause method TObject.InheritsForm to be called and an exception appear on address FFFFFFDD. Those 3 events can be together in the code but they may also be used much later. I think this is true for the last method call. EDIT7: We work closely with the the author of Bold Jan Norden and he recently found a bug in the OCL-evaluator in Bold framework. When this was fixed these kinds of exceptions decreased a lot but they still occasionally come. But it is a big relief that this is almost solved.

• Why is vCenter 5.1u1 exiting hosts from maintenance mode?

  This vCenter server was just upgraded to 5.1 update 1. I'm going through hosts and bringing firmware up to date, then upgrading them from various versions of 5.0 to 5.1u1. vCenter 5.1u1 seems to have an interesting new behavior: it's removing hosts from maintenance mode when they reconnect after being disconnected -- but very inconsistently, I've seen it maybe 4 or 5 times on ~25-30 host reboots. I've only seen it happen on 5.0 hosts that have not yet been upgraded to 5.1. In the image, I placed the host in maint mode and rebooted it into the HP SPP DVD's automatic update mode. After its usual ~40 minute update process, the host came back online.. and 7 seconds before even logging that the host had reconnected, vCenter had sent the host a task to exit maintenance mode. In my understanding, the only time vCenter should drop a host out of maintenance mode is when vCenter put it into maintenance mode itself (such as a VUM upgrade task). Why would this vCenter be unilaterally exiting a host from user-initiated maintenance mode? Edit, additional info: I ran the firmware upgrades on 5 more hosts, all at the same time. Two of them exited maint mode after reconnecting, three did not. The common factor of those exiting maint mode seems to be how long they were offline; the two that took a few tries to boot to the virtual media are the two that got knocked out of maint mode. esx31 (image above): 45 minutes unresponsive esx19 (exited maint): 87 minutes unresponsive esx24 (stayed in maint): 32 minutes unresponsive esx29 (stayed in maint): 39 minutes unresponsive esx32 (stayed in maint): 30 minutes unresponsive esx34 (exited maint): 70 minutes unresponsive Edit: The disconnect time idea seems to have been a red herring, as it's not happening consistently. Additionally, in the vpxd.log the exit maint mode task initiation seems to always immediately follow this vim.EnvironmentBrowser.queryProvisioningPolicy SOAP call. Here's the lines, slightly trimmed for clarity: 15:27:49.535 [info 'vpxdvpxdVmomi'] [ClientAdapterBase::InvokeOnSoap] Invoke done (esx31, vim.EnvironmentBrowser.queryProvisioningPolicy) 15:27:49.560 [info 'commonvpxLro'] [VpxLRO] -- BEGIN task -- esx31 -- HostSystem.exitMaintenanceMode -- Note that on the nodes that don't get the exit task, the vim.EnvironmentBrowser.queryProvisioningPolicy event still occurs. I'm not seeing any other differences in events before or after this in the reconnect process, aside from the extra events caused by exiting maintenance mode. Given the log's mention of provisioning policies, looking for autodeploy-related maintenance mode issues turns up complaints about similar behavior (though I'm not using autodeploy at all).

• DPM 2010 "Disk failed or disk not found"

  I have an HP Proliant ML110 G5 server with Windows server 2008R2 only dedicated for DPM 2010. This server has a limit in HD of 8TB which has already been met. I'm now stuck in this situation where my disk keeps failing "Disk failed or Disk not found" in the disk management. Only after I reboot the system the disk comes back up. Today I was running my monthly tape backup on a certain protection group and the disk failed again while the tape job was running (so the job wasn't completed). This is the description of the error in the alerts: "The disk Disk 1 - Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 SCSI Disk Device cannot be detected or has stopped responding. All subsequent protection activities that use this disk will fail until the disk is brought back online. (ID 3120)". My backup system is becoming useless! I don't think that is a hardware issue (please correct me if I'm wrong) since the HD works fine for a certain period of time which is becoming shorter and shorter. I basically have no more option to fix this problem. I tried to fix any error that was coming up in the event viewer with no luck (included one regarding the SQL2008 compatibility issue). The disk keeps failing! Now I'm only trying to recover/migrate the data from the disk that is having problem but my issue now is that I cannot add any drives to my server since I already got installed the maximum storage capacity 8TB. I thought about 2 simple options. Please tell me what you guys think about it; Unplug one of the 2 storage pool disks (disk0, that one without problem) from the machine and install a new one in order to migrate the data with the Migration tool for DPM. Remove the defective disk (disk1), put back the disk0 and run the synchronization/consistency check on all the groups to recreate replicas and recovery points. Run diskpart.exe and clean up the disk (loosing all data) and hoping that he will work after I sync all the protection groups. Both solutions are not elegant but I have no better options at the moment. Please I need some help. Thanks for your time Angelo

• How do I protect a low budget network from rogue DHCP servers?

  I am helping a friend manage a shared internet connection in an apartment buildling with 80 apartments - 8 stairways with 10 apartments in each. The network is laid out with the internet router at one end of the building, connected to a cheap non-managed 16 port switch in the first stairway where the first 10 apartments are also connected. One port is connected to another 16 port cheapo switch in the next stairway, where those 10 apartments are connected, and so forth. Sort of a daisy chain of switches, with 10 apartments as spokes on each "daisy". The building is a U-shape, approximately 50 x 50 meters, 20 meters high - so from the router to the farthest apartment it’s probably around 200 meters including up-and-down stairways. We have a fair bit of problems with people hooking up wifi-routers the wrong way, creating rogue DHCP servers which interrupt large groups of the users and we wish to solve this problem by making the network smarter (instead of doing a physical unplugging binary search). With my limited networking skills, I see two ways - DHCP-snooping or splitting the entire network into separate VLANS for each apartment. Separate VLANS gives each apartment their own private connection to the router, while DHCP snooping will still allow LAN gaming and file sharing. Will DHCP snooping work with this kind of network topology, or does that rely on the network being in a proper hub-and-spoke-configuration? I am not sure if there are different levels of DHCP snooping - say like expensive Cisco switches will do anything, but inexpensive ones like TP-Link, D-Link or Netgear will only do it in certain topologies? And will basic VLAN support be good enough for this topology? I guess even cheap managed switches can tag traffic from each port with it’s own VLAN tag, but when the next switch in the daisy chain receives the packet on it’s “downlink” port, wouldn’t it strip or replace the VLAN tag with it’s own trunk-tag (or whatever the name is for the backbone traffic). Money is tight, and I don’t think we can afford professional grade Cisco (I have been campaigning for this for years), so I’d love some advice on which solution has the best support on low-end network equipment and if there are some specific models that are recommended? For instance low-end HP switches or even budget brands like TP-Link, D-Link etc. If I have overlooked another way to solve this problem it is due to my lack of knowledge. :)

This first happened once or twice a day, but lately it occurs much more frequent, as specially when Acronis Backup jobs are running. I searched the web extensively and asked in forums, but till now nobody was able to help me. Based on blog posts and VMWare KB articles I tried the following NFS settings: Net.TcpipHeapSize = 32 Net.TcpipHeapMax = 128 NFS.HartbeatFrequency = 12 NFS.HartbeatMaxFailures = 10 NFS.HartbeatTimeout = 5 NFS.MaxQueueDepth = 64 Instead of NFS.MaxQueueDepth = 64 I already tried other settings like NFS.MaxQueueDepth = 32 or even NFS.MaxQueueDepth = 1. Unfortunately without any luck. It would be great if someone could help me on this issue. It is really annoying. Thanks in advance for all the help. [UPDATE] As I explained in the comment below, here is the network setup: On the production setup the NFS traffic is bound to a separate VLAN with ID 20. I am using a HP 1810 24 Port Switch. The OpenFiler system is connected to the VLAN with 4 Intel GbE NICs with dynamic LACP. The ESXis both have 4 Intel GbE NICs using 2 static LACP trunks containing 2 NICs each. One pair is connected to the regular LAN and the other one to the VLAN 20. • MySQL full text search with partial words

  MySQL Full Text searching appears to be great and the best way to search in SQL. However, I seem to be stuck on the fact that it won't search partial words. For instance if I have an article titled "MySQL Tutorial" and search for "MySQL", it won't find it. Having done some searching I found various references to support for this coming in MySQL 4 (i'm using 5.1.40). I've tried using "MySQL" and "%MySQL%", but neither works (one link I found suggested it was stars but you could only do it at the end or the beginning not both). Here's my table structure and my query, if someone could tell me where i'm going wrong that would be great. I'm assuming partial word matching is built in somehow. • Help with force close occurrences in my app

  This is the last issue with this app. Periodic force close situations. I think something should be on another thread but I'm not sure what. Anyway, I can always count on a freeze on first install. • Linux Mint 14 severe overheating

  I've tried switching to Mint (it was Mint 12) about 6 months ago, but failed to do it due to enormous overheating which made it virtually impossible to run any applications more complex than Gedit. Time had passed, and now I'm back again with Mint 14, but feeling way more determined.   We have a legacy program that was ported from Java 1.3 to Java 1.5. This application involves applets which worked fine before. After porting however, the applet would not load. However there are no errors or exceptions. The app would just try to load it forever. We tried to run it with Java 1.6 and poof! No problems whatsoever. Isn't Java 6 backwards compatible?   Answer: Parts of the hard drive are corrupted. All of my user's code was checked in, so I'm just going to format the box. One of my users has an HP DV5-1235dx laptop running Windows Vista Professional x64. Last night, our WSUS server pushed out a few updates including "Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB960859)". When we try to boot the laptop today, a black screen with white text comes up displaying: xxx/169894 (something) Where xxx increments rapidly and something is some dll or registry key. Eventually that stops and the screen displays !! 0xc01a00d !! 35566/169894 (\Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS\DerivedDat...) No other computers that received this update are displaying the same error. So far I've tried running CHKDSK off of HBCD. It repaired a thing or two, but the computer still doesn't boot. I tried repairing the Windows install from the Vista CD, but I get a black screen with white text displaying something along the lines of: 0 No Emulation System Type 00 1 No Emulation System Type 00 Select one of the above Booting in Last Known Good Configuration doesn't work. Booting in Safe Mode freezes at Loading Windows Files [snip] Loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys Please wait... My next step is trying to boot Safe Mode with Command Prompt and try to run rstrui.exe. While I do that, does anybody have any guidance? Edit: Booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt will not work. See Booting in Safe Mode above. Edit 2: I managed to boot from the Vista DVD.   Hi! I write program to communicate with modem (it useing Hayes commands) and this is working. GUI is programmed with QT, but communication with COM port is write with winapi library. I have problem when I want to send with my program message from one computer to another, i can't send Polish chars (they are repleaced by '?'), how can I fix it ? Does anyone have idea ?? And I have one more problem, I can't send message from my program to Microsoft HyperTerminal, HyperTerminal receive something, but not that what I send.   Is there any microsoft or even non-official documentation for SOS for Silverlight. Other than a few web posts I have seen zero documentation for it on MSDN. Even official documentation for the CLR version of SOS seems hard to find, this ancient article mentions a sos.htm file that is included in the windows SDK but it doesn't appear to be there any more. Any pointers to debugging Silveright with SOS? • XP OEM licensing when reinstalling Windows XP

  My wife has managed to buy a Dell laptop she was using at her ex-employer that just went bust. The problem with it is the OS (Windows XP) which takes ages to boot and is generally disproportionally slow to the hardware of the machine. So my aim is to sacrifice a day and reinstall it. The problem I am slightly worried about is the licensing/registration/activation hell. Apart from the sticker (with WinXP license key), the laptop has no other paperwork proving this license is legitimate. I believe this was originally an OEM license. Unfortunately, I don't have the the installation CD. This computer also has MS Office installed (which I would like to retain) but it none of MS Office apps would launch due to some obscure error complaining about lack of free disk space (which computer has plenty of). I have absolutely no clue what kind of license this MS Office was. And because the company has gone into the administration, there is no way of getting this information nor installable media. I believe that by buying the hardware I have also acquired the software which I can use as I see fit. Correct me if I'm wrong. Above said, my question would be: What is the easiest way of reinstalling the XP? By easiest I mean avoiding spending my time to prove Microsoft support I've got the right to use the software (insert your computer says noooo joke here) but still being able to get to fresh virgin activated legal state of the XP. I used to work as a sysadmin many years ago so I am not afraid of any technical difficulties. The same question applies to MS Office. I imagine the process would consist of backing up all the data, pulling some bits from the registry and using that on the fresh install. As for reinstall I'd expect to use some sort of OEM Windows repair CD from Dell, right? Are those freely available? My other box (HP) has such a thing and it can't be used on any other brand. I'm sure somebody had to go through this licensing hell and could share his/her tips. Thanks in advance.

  Router reconfigures PC's and they can no longer access the internet via hardwired connection to DSL Modem. Hardware Information: Buffalo Wireless Router/access point, Model: WZR-HP-G300NH-AP DSL Modem: Generic (actually not sure of manufacture). Service Provider: TOT (Thailand) Laptop-1: Windows XP and Belkin PCMIA Network Card Laptop-2: Windows XP unknown network card & Wifi Laptop-3: Windows 7 unknown network card & Wifi Outline of Problem/actions taken: After a recent power failure the router and laptop-1 connected to router were no longer able to access the internet. Actions taken to try and recover internet access: Using Laptop-1 tried to configure Router with PPPoe settings using software from Router Manufacture. During the installation process a Timeout error was experienced, unable to connect to WAN. Used Internet Explorer to communicate directly with Router using IP address. Changed settings to use PPPoe settings given by ISP. Router was not able to communicate with Internet. Repeated steps 1-4 again with no success. Reset Router and DSL modem. Repeated steps 1-4 again still no success. Tried connecting Laptop-1 directly to DSL to gain access to internet to research problem. No Network connection with DSL could be established…connection would be established for a second and then be lost and didn’t appear long enough to actually connect to DSL. Replugged LAN back into Router and connection was regained with laptop-1. Replugged Laptop-1 directly into DSL and again unable to establish network connection. Uninstalled network card and all of its drivers on Laptop-1. Reinstalled network card and drivers and tried connecting directly to DSL. Still unable to make network connection. Plugged DSL into Laptop-3 and Internet connection was established. Being Laptop-3 does not have a CD-Rom, Laptop-2 was tried to connect to the router. With Laptop-2 steps 1-7 ended up being repeated without success. Tried plugging Laptop-2 directly into DSL and again no network connection could be established. Using Laptop-3 with a direct connection to DSL downloaded latest Router FW. Installed router FW using Laptop-1. Tired the installation process again without success. Being desperate reinstalled OS on Laptop-1 still not success. Tried using “ipconfig” with router to see what was going on without success. With laptop-1 connected to DSL went through the “ipconfig /…” inputs to see if anything made a difference. Being the network card was not able to make a connection this provide very little information “media disconnected”. So now I have a router and two laptops which are unable to connect to the internet and sure could use some advice/help.
