  • Ajax based progress bar

    - by Punit
I am developing a progress bar using Ajax. My client side code is working fine, but I have issue at server side. I am using C based CGI. if(i == inc && pb_inc<=100) { fptr = fopen("progress_bar.txt", "w"); fprintf(fptr,"%d", j); fclose(fptr); pb_inc++; } basically I am increasing progress bar after certain number of bytes. What I see here is that the CGI doesn't let display any data to text file until it has sent all the data to file one by one. i have referred to http://www.redips.net/javascript/ajax-progress-bar/ Any idea whats happening here?

  • how to bind a link local address to an ipv6 socket

    - by Haiyuan Zhang
This thread can be treated as a sister thread of this. It's will be very tedious that when you want to bind a link local adress to a ipv6 socket you need to the set sin6_scope_id field of sockaddr_in6 struct as well. I'm wondering if someone can provide a good practise like solution here for me or anyone who interested in this topic to learn from.

  • how can exec change the behavior of exec'ed program

    - by R Samuel Klatchko
I am trying to track down a very odd crash. What is so odd about it is a workaround that someone discovered and which I cannot explain. The workaround is this small program which I'll refer to as 'runner': #include <stdio.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> #include <errno.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { if (argc == 1) { fprintf(stderr, "Usage: %s prog [args ...]\n", argv[0]); return 1; } execvp(argv[1], argv + 1); fprintf(stderr, "execv failed: %s\n", strerror(errno)); // If exec returns because the program is not found or we // don't have the appropriate permission return 255; } As you can see, all this program does is use execvp to replace itself with a different program. The program crashes when it is directly invoked from the command line: /path/to/prog args # this crashes but works fine when it is indirectly invoked via my runner shim: /path/to/runner /path/to/prog args # works successfully For the life of me, I can figure out how having an extra exec can change the behavior of the program being run (as you can see the program does not change the environment). Some background on the crash. The crash itself is happening in the C++ runtime. Specifically, when the program does a throw, the crashing version incorrectly thinks there is no matching catch (although there is) and calls terminate. When I invoke the program via runner, the exception is properly caught. My question is any idea why the extra exec changes the behavior of the exec'ed program?

  • Why is scp not overwriting my destination file?

    - by Noli
I'm trying to back up a file via the command scp /tmp/backup.tar.gz hostname:/home/user/backup.tar.gz When I run it, the scp progress bar shows up and it looks like its transferring the file, however when I log into the destination server to check the file, the timestamp and filesize haven't changed from the older version, so it looks like scp didn't overwrite the old file at all. It only sees to work when I manually delete the file from the destination server. I'm running ubuntu, and this is happening on two servers: one cygwin ssh, and one fedora core 3. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I thought scp would ONLY overwrite existing files.. Thanks

  • Untar, ungz, gz, tar - how do you remember all the useful options?

    - by deadprogrammer
I am pretty sure I am not the only one with the following problem: every time I need to uncompress a file in *nix I can't remember all the switches, and end up googling it, which is surprizing considering how often I need to do this. Do you have a good compression cheat sheet? Or how about a mnemonic for all those nasty switches in tar? I am making this article a wiki so that we can create a nice cheat sheet here. Oh, and about man pages: is there's one thing they are not helpful for, it's for figuring out how to uncompress a file.

  • Other users on my Server?

    - by Jennifer Weinberg
I'm buying a Server from a person (that I don't know really well) and I want to make sure that the previous owner hasn't got any access anymore. It's an Ubuntu Virtual Server and I already received the admin access (via shell). How can I find out if there are still other accounts left, who are still able to access my server (e.g. with a still existing shell account, ftp or another type of user account)? And how can I delete them if these accounts exist? Best regards, Jennifer

  • Email pipe to php script working only sometimes

    - by Rixius
I have a php pipe script that takes an attached *.csv from an email and saves and parses it. When the email is sent from where it is supposed to be coming from, it silently errors, however, when I take that same email and resend it from my address it goes through just fine. is there any simple reason it could be doing this?

  • How to declare a vector or array of reducer objects in Cilk++?

    - by Jin
    Hi All, I had a problem when I am using Cilk++, an extension to C++ for parallel computing. I found that I can't declare a vector of reducer objects: typedef cilk::reducer_opadd<int> T_reducer; vector<T_reducer> bitmiss_vec; for (int i = 0; i < 24; ++i) { T_reducer r; bitmiss_vec.push_back(r); } However, when I compile the code with Cilk++, it complains at the push_back() line: cilk++ geneAttack.cilk -O1 -g -lcilkutil -o geneAttack   • Running resize2fs on /

    - by Paul Steckler
I'm trying to resize an ext4 filesystem on a Fedora 11 box. Using fsdisk and lvm, I was able to grow the partition and logical volume containing the filesystem. When I try to run resize2fs on the device containing the filesystem (/dev/sda2 in this case), I get: "Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda2, Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock" I've tried this from a rescue disk that doesn't have the filesystem mounted, no joy. Maybe resize2fs doesn't know about ext4?

  • How can I prevent default_environment variables from getting set by Capistrano's sudo action?

    - by Logan Koester
My deploy.rb sets some environment variables to use the regular user's local Ruby rather than the system-wide one. set :default_environment, { :PATH => '/home/myapp/.rvm/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.1-p378/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378%global/bin:/home/myapp/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games', :RUBY_VERSION => 'ruby-1.9.1-p378', :GEM_HOME => '/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378', :GEM_PATH => '/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378:/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378%global' } Naturally, when a task is using sudo, I would expect the system-wide ruby to be used instead. But it seems the environment variables are being set anyway, which is obviously invalid for the root user and returns an error: executing "sudo -p 'sudo password: ' /etc/init.d/god stop" servers: ["myapp.com"] [myapp.com] executing command command finished failed: "env PATH=/home/myapp/.rvm/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.1-p378/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378/bin:/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378%global/bin:/home/myapp/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games RUBY_VERSION=ruby-1.9.1-p378 GEM_HOME=/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378 GEM_PATH=/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378:/home/myapp/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.1-p378%global sh -c 'sudo -p '\\''sudo password: '\\'' /etc/init.d/god stop'" on myapp.com It makes no difference whether I use capistrano's sudo "system call" or the regular run "sudo system call". How can I avoid this?

  • cmake source and out-of-source navigation

    - by idimba
Hi, cmake advises to use out-of-source builds. While in general I like the idea I find it not comfortable to navigate from out-of-source sub directory to the corresponding source directory. I frequently need the code to perform some actions with code (e.g. grep, svn command etc.). Is there an easy way in shell to navigate from out-of-source sub directory to the corresponding source directory? Thanks Dima

  • Reading a child process's /proc/pid/mem file from the parent

    - by Amittai Aviram
    In the program below, I am trying to cause the following to happen: Process A assigns a value to a stack variable a. Process A (parent) creates process B (child) with PID child_pid. Process B calls function func1, passing a pointer to a. Process B changes the value of variable a through the pointer. Process B opens its /proc/self/mem file, seeks to the page containing a, and prints the new value of a. Process A (at the same time) opens /proc/child_pid/mem, seeks to the right page, and prints the new value of a. The problem is that, in step 6, the parent only sees the old value of a in /proc/child_pid/mem, while the child can indeed see the new value in its /proc/self/mem. Why is this the case? Is there any way that I can get the parent to to see the child's changes to its address space through the /proc filesystem? #include <fcntl.h> #include <stdbool.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #include <sys/wait.h> #include <unistd.h> #define PAGE_SIZE 0x1000 #define LOG_PAGE_SIZE 0xc #define PAGE_ROUND_DOWN(v) ((v) & (~(PAGE_SIZE - 1))) #define PAGE_ROUND_UP(v) (((v) + PAGE_SIZE - 1) & (~(PAGE_SIZE - 1))) #define OFFSET_IN_PAGE(v) ((v) & (PAGE_SIZE - 1)) # if defined ARCH && ARCH == 32 #define BP "ebp" #define SP "esp" #else #define BP "rbp" #define SP "rsp" #endif typedef struct arg_t { int a; } arg_t; void func1(void * data) { arg_t * arg_ptr = (arg_t *)data; printf("func1: old value: %d\n", arg_ptr->a); arg_ptr->a = 53; printf("func1: address: %p\n", &arg_ptr->a); printf("func1: new value: %d\n", arg_ptr->a); } void expore_proc_mem(void (*fn)(void *), void * data) { off_t frame_pointer, stack_start; char buffer[PAGE_SIZE]; const char * path = "/proc/self/mem"; int child_pid, status; int parent_to_child[2]; int child_to_parent[2]; arg_t * arg_ptr; off_t child_offset; asm volatile ("mov %%"BP", %0" : "=m" (frame_pointer)); stack_start = PAGE_ROUND_DOWN(frame_pointer); printf("Stack_start: %lx\n", (unsigned long)stack_start); arg_ptr = (arg_t *)data; child_offset = OFFSET_IN_PAGE((off_t)&arg_ptr->a); printf("Address of arg_ptr->a: %p\n", &arg_ptr->a); pipe(parent_to_child); pipe(child_to_parent); bool msg; int child_mem_fd; char child_path[0x20]; child_pid = fork(); if (child_pid == -1) { perror("fork"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } if (!child_pid) { close(child_to_parent[0]); close(parent_to_child[1]); printf("CHILD (pid %d, parent pid %d).\n", getpid(), getppid()); fn(data); msg = true; write(child_to_parent[1], &msg, 1); child_mem_fd = open("/proc/self/mem", O_RDONLY); if (child_mem_fd == -1) { perror("open (child)"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } printf("CHILD: child_mem_fd: %d\n", child_mem_fd); if (lseek(child_mem_fd, stack_start, SEEK_SET) == (off_t)-1) { perror("lseek"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } if (read(child_mem_fd, buffer, sizeof(buffer)) != sizeof(buffer)) { perror("read"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } printf("CHILD: new value %d\n", *(int *)(buffer + child_offset)); read(parent_to_child[0], &msg, 1); exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); } else { printf("PARENT (pid %d, child pid %d)\n", getpid(), child_pid); printf("PARENT: child_offset: %lx\n", child_offset); read(child_to_parent[0], &msg, 1); printf("PARENT: message from child: %d\n", msg); snprintf(child_path, 0x20, "/proc/%d/mem", child_pid); printf("PARENT: child_path: %s\n", child_path); child_mem_fd = open(path, O_RDONLY); if (child_mem_fd == -1) { perror("open (child)"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } printf("PARENT: child_mem_fd: %d\n", child_mem_fd); if (lseek(child_mem_fd, stack_start, SEEK_SET) == (off_t)-1) { perror("lseek"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } if (read(child_mem_fd, buffer, sizeof(buffer)) != sizeof(buffer)) { perror("read"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } printf("PARENT: new value %d\n", *(int *)(buffer + child_offset)); close(child_mem_fd); printf("ENDING CHILD PROCESS.\n"); write(parent_to_child[1], &msg, 1); if (waitpid(child_pid, &status, 0) == -1) { perror("waitpid"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } } } int main(void) { arg_t arg; arg.a = 42; printf("In main: address of arg.a: %p\n", &arg.a); explore_proc_mem(&func1, &arg.a); return EXIT_SUCCESS; } This program produces the output below.   • Looking for regex to extract email addresses from /etc/passwd

    - by Brent
Most of my users have email addresses associated with their profile in /etc/passwd. They are always in the 5th field, which I can grab, but they appear at different places within a comma-separated list in the 5th field. Can somebody give me a regex to grab just the email address (delimeted by commas) from a line in this file? (I will be using grep and sed from a bash script) Sample lines from file: user1:x:1147:5005:User One,Department,,,[email protected]:/home/directory:/bin/bash user2:x:1148:5002:User Two,Department2,[email protected],:/home/directory:/bin/bash

  • Custom installation directories

Let's say I am writing installation script for the program which contains executable file and shared library. By default, this script places executable to /usr/local/bin, and shared library to /usr/local/lib. In this case my program may be executed by any user by typing its name in the command line. Suppose that user selects custom installation directory, like ~/myprogram/. Is it user's responsibility to ensure that my program may be executed, or my installation script must do this?

  • Running Solr on VPS problems

    - by Camran
I have a VPS with Ubuntu OS. I run solr om my local machine (windows xp laptop) just fine. I have configured Jetty, and Solr just the same way as on my computer, but on the server. I have also downloaded the JRE and installed it on the server. However, whenever I try to run the start.jar file, the PuTTY terminal shows a bunch of text but gets stuck. I could pase the text here but it is very long, so unless somebody wants to see it I wont. Also, I cant view the solr admin page at all. Does anybody have experience in this kind of problem? Maybe java isn't correctly installed? It is a VPS so maybe installation is different. • PHP Segmentation fault when started from crond

    - by Jeroen Moors
Hello, I've a php script that's started each minute from cron. It almost always runs without any problem, except for about 10 times within 24h. The times it fails I get a segmentation fault like: bin/sh: line 1: 21815 Segmentation fault /usr/bin/myscript The number after "line 1:" is always different. I'm running: PHP 5.2.6-1+lenny8 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 (cli) (built: Mar 14 2010 08:14:04) Is this a problem with my version of PHP? Is there a way to debug this? I have the feeling it crashes when the server load is high, but there's absolutely no prove for this. Any feedback is welcome!

  • Query size of block device file in Python

    - by ??O?????
Hello. I have a Python script that reads a file (typically from optical media) marking the unreadable sectors, to allow a re-attempt to read said unreadable sectors on a different optical reader. I discovered that my script does not work with block devices (e.g. /dev/sr0), in order to create a copy of the contained ISO9660/UDF filesystem, because os.stat().st_size is zero. The algorithm currently needs to know the filesize in advance; I can change that, but the issue (of knowing the block device size) remains, and it's not answered here, so I open this question. I am aware of the following two related SO questions: Determine the size of a block device (/proc/partitions, ioctl through ctypes) how to check file size in python? (about non-special files) Therefore, I'm asking: in Python, how can I get the file size of a block device file?

  • How to completely wipe rubygems along with rails etc

    - by Earlz
Ok, so I decided I'd be cool and try to use Rails3 that's in beta. Then, things were getting hard to manage so I got rvm. I installed ruby 1.9.2-head in rvm and things were working, and then a computer restart later rails wouldn't start up. So I figured I'd just try running the system ruby and start rails in it. same error. Then, I uninstalled rails3 and got rails: no such file or directory type errors.. So now I'm royally screwed because rails2 is still installed but will not uninstall because of invisible dependencies, along with a lot of other random gems. How do I completely clear out all ruby gems and such so I can start anew?

Could somebody please tell me what is "Memory Page Out Rate". I have seen this in "HP Open View" server monitoring tool and tried googling it. Would appreciate if some expert can clarify. If page out rate is too high as 200+ per second, can it crash the server? Thanks in advance
