  • Why should I reuse XmlHttpRequest objects?

    From what I understand, it's a best practice to reuse XmlHttpRequest objects whenever possible. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time understanding why. It seems like trying to reuse XHR objects can increase code complexity, introduce possible browser incompatibilities, and lead to other subtle bugs. After researching this question for a while, I did come up with a list of possible explanations: Fewer objects created means less garbage collecting Reusing XHR objects reduces the chance of memory leaks The overhead of creating a new XHR object is high The browser is able to perform some sort of network optimization under hood But I'm not sure if any of these reasons are actually valid. Any light you can shed on this question would be much appreciated.

    This .aspx page has a very nice set of collapsible sections with a little "+ -" control. http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/editions-compare.aspx Can anyone tell me how this might be done in Visual Studio? I have tried using firebug to deconstruct the page but can't find the script that is doing the showCollapsibleItem() call. Thank you!

    Hi Guys I'm currently getting all the Select elements that exist in a form with the following: $("form").submit(function(event) { // gather data var data = GetSelectData($("form select")); // do submit $.post($(this).attr("action"), data, ..etc) }); Instead of passing in $("form select"), is there a way I can say something like $(this).children('select') // this doesn't work, btw to get all the select elements that exist within the context of the form the submit event is executing for?   • jQuery if checkbox is checked to toggle classes

    I am needed to change my jQuery code up. Instead of the label toggling the class and showing the icon I need it to where if the checkbox is checked to show to toggle those classes. I have tried prop and is but I couldn't get them to work properly. The reason for the change is I want to preload data into the form and if it's going to be checked those toggles need to reflect that change. http://jsfiddle.net/70fbLooL/2/ EDIT Seems to be confusion as to exactly what I am trying to do. The fiddle I provided works perfectly fine. The problem is if I want to call the form from server-side and pre-populate the form the checkbox toggles will not show that they are checked because it's based on the clicked function. I need it to be based on if the checkbox equal true or checked. That way if the value equals true from the server-side call it will toggle those classes and look like it's checked.

  • Enable Datepicker only when first field has a value

    Right now, the End Date selection is disabled. I want to only enable this when a Start Date is selected. if( $('#datepicker1').val().length === 0) { $('#datepicker2').datepicker("disable"); } else { $('#datepicker2').datepicker("enable"); } This clearly does not work. If I insert value = 'random date' into my first input field, it works fine. I'm not too sure on how do this. Clearly not as easy as I had hoped. My other problem, or hope, is to disable the dates including and before the first selection. You know, pick Start Date, and every date before and said date for the next picker would be disabled. But that is a whole other problem.

    i would like to know what the rootPanel (which is in the entryClass) exactly is and how gwt loads the java code into the appname.html file via rootpanel. what happens there exactly? where is the connection between the rootpanel and the html file. i could not find any side which explains this process in a detail. the only thing i know i that all the created panels are div-elements. it would be very helpfulf if somebody could explain it or send some good links to websites which are explaining this issue. thx!

    I've built a custom jQuery rotator using just basic animation to rotate the 3 Divs (images). I've built the function and then reinitiate the function using it as a call back. It loops, but i get all sorts of funkiness. Edit: I've also tried some answers in the replies and they both leave me with recursion errors each second.

    So I see a number of ways to display allot of seconds in a (static) hr/min/sec. However, I am trying to produce a visual count down timer: $('#someelement').html(minCounter + ' minutes ' + ((secCounter == 0) ? '' : (secCounter + ' seconds'))); My counter is reduced inside a SetInterval that triggers ever 1 second: //....... var counter = redirectTimer; jQuery('#WarningDialogMsg').html(minCounter + ' minutes ' + ((secCounter == 0) ? '' : (secCounter + ' seconds'))); //........ SetInternval( function() { counter -= 1; secCounter = Math.floor(counter % 60); minCounter = Math.floor(counter / 60); //....... $('#someelement').html(minCounter + ' minutes ' + ((secCounter == 0) ? '' : (secCounter + ' seconds'))); }, 1000) It is a two minute counter but I don't want to display 120 seconds. I want to display 1 : 59 (and counting down). I have managed to get it to work using the above, but my main question is: is there a more elegant way to accomplish the above? (note: I am redirecting once "counter == 0").

  • Why is this code's execution speed so different?

    In Internet Explorer 7, this code executes consistently in 47 ms: function updateObjectValues() { $('.objects').html(12345678); // ~500 DIVs } however, this code executes consistently in 157 ms: function updateObjectValues() { $('.objects').html('12345678'); // ~500 DIVs } Passing a number is over 3x faster than a string. Why are these results so dramatically different? And, is there any way to help the performance of the string?

  • Image Data via Ajax - how can I display the image on the Page

    I am creating a Domino Document via AJAX that contains a photo. I am able to get the base64 image data back to the server in a Notes Domino Document. Data is stored in a Richtext (textarea) field as "data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/2wBDAFA..........." - (this goes on for several lines) I am trying to display on the Domino Webpage using passthru tag <<image id= "pic1" >> in the onLoad event of the Form i try to shove the data into the image element using this code: //Photo Stuff alert(document.forms[0].photo1.value); document.getElementById("pic1").src = document.forms[0].photo1.value; The alert is showing the data.     Ok I am making a simulated OS type interface. It should open up windows and have a drag handle. This all works perfectly. Then I added a image for an exit button I floated to the right... this made IE mad and IE screwed with the sizing and positioning =[ I've tried a crap load of things. None of which work.     I am a little confused how jQuery stores data with .data() functions. Is this something called expando? Or is this using HTML5 Web Storage although I think this is very unlikely? The documentation says: The .data() method allows us to attach data of any type to DOM elements in a way that is safe from circular references and therefore from memory leaks. As I read about expando, it seems to have a rick of memory leak.   • crunching multiple js files during development

    I'm writing a backbone.js app. I have multiple js, css and html template files. I also have a script to crunch them into a single file so it is faster to download. How should I work during development: Add a listener to the file system and after every change compile the files so I can see it in a browser. This implies a 1-2 seconds overhead before I can see what I did, which is annoying for html fine-tuning. Somehow browse using the multiple files during development and only crunch before going to production. This means I need to have a separate index.html for dev and prod. What's your take?
