  • How should bug tracking and help tickets integrate?

    I have a little experience with bug tracking systems such as FogBugz where help tickets are issues are (or can be) bugs, and I have some experience using a bug tracking system internally completely separate from a help center system. My question is, in a company with an existing (home-grown) help center system where replacing it is not an option, how should a bug tracking system (probably Mantis) be integrated into the process? Right now help tickets get put in for issues, questions, etc and they get assigned to the appropriate person (PC Tech, Help Desk staff, or if it's an application issue they can't solve in the help desk it gets assigned to a developer). A user can put a request for small modifications or fixes to an application in a help ticket and the developer it gets assigned to will make the change at some point, apply their time to that ticket, and then close the ticket when it goes to production. We don't currently have a bug tracking system, so I'm looking into the best way to integrate one. Should we just take the help tickets and put it into the bug tracking system if it's a bug (or issue or feature request) and then close the ticket if it's not an emergency fix? We probably don't want to expose the bug tracking system to anyone else as they wouldn't know what to put in the help center system and what to put in the bug tracker... right? Any thoughts? Suggestions? Tips? Advice? To-dos? Not to-dos? etc...

  • Submit information to url, but also open PDF

    I have a client whose desire is to have her Wordpress blog show a MailChimp form on her home page as a gateway to a .pdf. I need the following behavior to occur when the user clicks "Submit": execute the included MailChimp's javascript file; this ensures the form was properly filled, and then performs the sign-up to the newsletter list (don't need help with this part) then show the user an informational PDF for download or viewing EDIT: The logical order was flipped from when I originally posted this. The script should execute, and only if the script gets executed properly should the PDF show to the user Note: My experience level with HTML and PHP is 3/4, and with JS I am 2/4 EDIT: (seems more like 1/4 at this point lol). If my research is correct, PHP (server-side language) would be used to do that which the client wants. Additional validation is not necessary beyond what MailChimp's script provides (it ensures that user has submitted a completed form) is not necessary in this case (the client says it's ok if the e-mail isn't valid at all).     I've build a command-line tool in Java, which I would now like to profile with YourKit. I launch the command-line tool with something like: $ java -classpath .:foo.bar.jar com.foobar.tools.TheTool arg1 arg2 arg3 It runs to completion in less than 2 seconds. After reading http://www.yourkit.com/docs/80/help/agent.jsp, I tried the following: $ java -agentpath:/home/dspitzer/yjp-8.0.24/bin/linux-x86-32/libyjpagent.so -classpath .:foo.bar.jar com.foobar.tools.TheTool arg1 arg2 arg3 ...and I get: [YourKit Java Profiler 8.0.24] JVMTI version 3001016d; 14.3-b01; Sun Microsystems Inc.; mixed mode, sharing; Linux; 32-bit JVM [YourKit Java Profiler 8.0.24] Profiler agent is listening on port 10001... How should I modify my command-line tool to allow connection from YourKit? I could add a command-line option that will have it pause for input, and I won't press return for it to continue until I've connected to it from YourKit. Is there a YourKit API that I could add to my tool that would cause it to block until I've connected with YourKit? Is there a YourKit API or a java command-line option that would create a profiling "snapshot" that I could load and analyze later (after the command-line tool has completed) with YourKit?

  • The RSA key container could not be opened

    Hi, I've been developing an ASP.NET site on an older machine running XP home. I recently got a new Win 7 PC and moved all my project files across. When I try and run the project, I get this error message: "Failed to decrypt using provider 'MyRsaProtectedConfigurationProvider'. Error message from the provider: The RSA key container could not be opened." I realised that I encrypted parts of my web.config file using a RSA encryption. This is where the problem now lies. I'm not sure how to get that key working again so that I can use it on my new machine. I exported the key from the older machine and imported it using: aspnet_regiis -pi "RSAProviderName" "C:\RSA_configkey.xml" This was imported successfully. I then ran the project, but the same error message came up. I figured it might be a permission thing, so I ran: aspnet_regiis -pa "RSAProviderName" "\Desktop" -full This was also successful, but I still get the error. From reading around, I've seen people use "ASPNET" instead of "\Desktop" (Desktop is my machine name). However, when I try and use "ASPNET", I get: No mapping between account name and security IDs was done. <Exception from HRESULT = 0x80070534 I can't work on the project until this is fixed, so any help is much appreciated.     Hi, As the title points I have problem with ctags when trying to parse user-defined language. Basically I've followed those instructions. The quickest and easiest way to do this is by defining a new language using the program options. In order to have Swine support available every time I start ctags, I will place the following lines into the file $HOME/.ctags, which is read in every time ctags starts: --langdef=swine --langmap=swine:.swn --regex-swine=/^def[ \t]*([a-zA-Z0-9_]+)/\1/d,definition/ The first line defines the new language, the second maps a file extension to it, and the third defines a regular expression to identify a language definition and generate a tag file entry for it. I've tried different flags: b,e for regex.     I am using zend framework. Now I want to authenticate users with other already registered accounts using RPX. I am following the 3 steps as described at RPX site: 1- Get the Widget 2- Receive Tokens 3- Choose Providers I created a controller(person) and action(signin) to show widget and my own signin form. I want to redirect to http://test.dev/#person/personsignin after authentication and want to set session in isPost() condition of personsigninAction() (described above). For now I consider indexAction to be called when outside authentication is done. Now I posted the code from http://gist.github.com/291396 in indexAction to follow step 3 mentioned above. But it is giving me following error: An error occured: Invalid parameter: apiKey Am I using the right way to use this. This is my very first attempt to this stuff. It installed successfully. and again ran the following command the following location /myapp/vendor/plugin/redbox/rake update_scripts . It shows me the following output (in /myapp/vendor/plugins/redbox) rake aborted! private method `copy' called for File:Class /home/myapp/vendor/plugins/redbox/Rakefile:28 (See full trace by running task with --trace) I don't know How to solve this ... Then i understand that "rake update_scripts" copying the Js and Css file only. so i manually copied the Redbox.js & redbox.css files into the respective places under /public folder I include the follwoing into my application.html.erb <%= stylesheet_link_tag 'redbox' % <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults % <%= javascript_include_tag 'redbox' % It included in the page successfully. I've done that hundreds of times without any problem but this time something weird happens : instead of the filename being stored in the database, I find the string "Array".   • Learning Objective-C: Need advice on populating NSMutableDictionary

    I am teaching myself Objective-C utilizing a number of resources, one of which is the Stanford iPhone Dev class available via iTunes U (past 2010 class). One of the home work assignments asked that I populate a mutable dictionary with a predefined list of keys and values (URLs). I was able to put the code together, but as I look at it, I keep thinking there is probably a much better way for me to approach what I'm trying to do: Populate a NSMutableDictionary with the predefined keys and values Enumerate through the keys of the dictionary and check each key to see if it starts with "Stanford" If it meets the criteria, log both the key and the value I would really appreciate any feedback on how I might improve on what I've put together.     Hey everyone, I can't manage to make my code symbolicated ... I read the part "below" : Given a crash report, the matching binary, and its .dSYM file, symbolication is relatively easy. The Xcode Organizer window has a tab for crash reports of the currently selected device. You can view externally received crash reports in this tab - just place them in the appropriate directory. This is the same as the Mac OS X directory described in the first section. It doesn't matter which device you have tethered, but the directory in which you place the crash report must be the directory for the tethered and selected device. It is not necessary to place the binary and .dSYM file in any particular location. Xcode uses Spotlight and the UUID to locate the correct files. It is necessary, though, that both files be in the same directory and that this directory is one that is indexed by Spotlight. Anywhere in your home directory should be fine. But it doesn't work for me ... here is what I did : I opened xcode organizer and I had my iphone device with crash logs App and dsym files are in my xcode project which is on my desktop All the rest should be automatic, right ? but crash logs aren't symbolicated yet ... I have an Amazon EC2 instance with Fedora 8 on it. It is a bare-bones install. I am halfway through my second day of trying to get it to work. I have mod_wsgi installed. I have Apache (though that's a later task to tackle). I have easy_install, paster is working fine; basically all of the pre-requisites mentioned throughout the Pylons docs. I can't for the life of me get the thing to work. And I can't seem to find a coherent walkthough anywhere that lists all the steps necessary. There is tons of info out there, but it is all scattered. Wsgi this, python that. Google, google, google... "47 million results found for 'socket.error:(lol, 'Yous a goofs')". So, this is my latest attempt: apachectl -k stop cd /home/ paster create -t pylons test [blah blah.. ok] cd test nano development.ini [hmm, last time I changed the host from 127.0.0.1 to my domain name or url, it threw an error like socket.error: (99, 'Cannot assign requested address')... I'll just leave it] [open port 5000 on firewall] paster serve development.ini [firefox-url:5000] Firefox can't establish a connection to the server Doing these steps locally works as expected. This is just a test to see if I can get it to work at all, which I can't. If I get it to work, then is the task of getting it to work with apache. My madness is that I'd like to play around a little developing and deploying before diving into a full-fledged project. So far: self, I am dissapoint.

  • Migrating Ruby Site from EngineYard to Heroku

    As part of a larger project I've been tasked with migrating some existing Ruby on Rails sites (built with an old version of refinerycms 0.9.6.34, at least that's the version listed in the Gemfile included with the source). I don't normally work with Ruby so I'm at a bit of a loss. The previous developers simply handed over the latest git dump as well as a db dump. I'm working first with trying to get the site up working locally on an Ubuntu 11.10 local machine before pushing up to at test Heroku install. If it's possible to just push directly to Heroku with the files they gave, then I can try that, but it's my understanding I need to get everything working and then use Heroku's tools to deploy. The previous devs said they're using ruby 1.8.7 so in Ubuntu I've done the following: aptitude install ruby1.8 ruby1.8-dev ruby1.8-full aptitude install rubygems1.8 I've restored the database and in the config directory I've made changes to the database.yml to point to the restored database.     back when I was not working with programming (using skills from courses and school) I started developing a simple program that is supposed to get the Artwork of the album to which the song you're currently listening in iTunes to and set it as you Display Picture in MSN Messenger (everything had to be open at the same time). I was so excited about it, made it as nicely as I could back then (now I consider it a design and usability complete fail), and it surprisingly worked. Now, a couple of versions ahead (MSN from 8.5 to 9.0, iTunes from 8 to 9, and windows from Vista to 7) I am getting some incompatibility issues. Where I work, I use Windows 7, Windows Live Messenger 2009 and iTunes 9 - it works just just like before, but at home I have the same exact setup, but something weird happens: When I open the program (having my itunes AND msn open) it doesn't use the active MSN instance, instead it opens a new one, and doesn't work even on this opened one. I've tried it with a couple of libraries: Interop.Messenger.dll - workis like described above Interop.MessengerAPI.dll - works like described above Interop.MessengerPrivate.dll - never worked MSNMessenger.dll - the one I used before - doesn't work anymore at all What could I do ?   • How to configure a system-wide package in osgi?

    I need to made available a library to some bundles. This library makes use of RMI, so it needs (as far as I know, at least) to use the system class loader in order to work (I tried to "osgi-fy" the library, which results in classcastexceptions at runtime). So what I did was to remove the dependencies from the bundles that use that library, compile them with the library included in the property jars.extra.classpath (in the build.properties of the eclipse project).
