• Why does 1GBit card have output limited to 80 MiB ?

  I'm trying to utilize maximal bandwidth provided by my 1GiB network card, but it's always limited to 80MiB (real megabytes). What can be the reason? • Why can't I access a particular website even though the server appears to be available

  I can't access http://www.lynda.com/ with any of my browsers on my home network. By checking http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/, I can see that the server is up and I can access it via a proxy like TOR. This screen appears immediately after I type the page in It doesn't even try to load the page, it seems. Though when I ping the server I get this: I tried to do ipconfig /flushdns. But it didn't help either. Anyone know how to fix this?

• Google Chrome suspicious connections

  I'm using Chrome at Windows and with TCPView (of the SysInternals freeware suit) I see that chrome.exe establish connections to these IPs: 173.194.37.104 209.85.146.138 Using http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/ I check about these IPs and see they're related to Google. Now, in order to clarify, these are the exact things I do: Open up chrome, the default page is set to BLANK (i.e no homepage whatsoever). Then I get into my website which has a blank page, so no "other" http requests are made. Right from this point there is a persistent connection, usually to '173.194.37.104'. What are these?? Very suspicious.. Edit #1: - I'm in 'incognito' mode right from start, when launching Chrome, using a shortcut with the '-incognito' switch. - I've turned off all phishing protections and other "advance" features in order to reduce Chrome's network activity.

This is the requirement for the request: Look for Incoming Mail addressed to #CRITICAL (mutlipurpose, internal group containing a list of engineers) For mail matching Point 1, append "For Immediate Action: " to the front of the Subject Some restrictions I have: Only the Domino server is under my charge, not to touch on network-side or other servers No 3rd party software to be installed I have gone through the configurations in the Domino server and the closest thing I have to filtering Email is the Router/SMTP Restrictions... Rules. But this is not able to fulfill Point 2 in any way. Is this even possible using just Domino server settings, or through agents?

• Wired and wireless conections: force Windows to connect to laptop through Ethernet?

  I have a desktop connected to the internet and to my home network through Wi-Fi, and a latptop connected to said desktop through an Ethernet cable. But Windows seems to only reach the laptop through Wi-Fi: I want to transfer files through the wired connection instead. Setting up Internet Connectin Sharing and disconnecting the laptop from Wi-Fi altogether doesn't seem like the most elegant solution to me. I also thought about going to the hosts file and setting up the IP address manually, but that would make the laptop completely unavailable if it's not wired, which happens quite often unfortunately. Is there any way for me to tell Windows to use the wired connection for a particular host if possible, and fallback to any other route it finds otherwise?

• Windows Server 2003 not automatically assigning drive letter to external drives

  My newly rebuilt Windows Server 2003 doesn't automatically assign drive letters to external usb devices. I have to manually open the Disk Management Console and assign it a drive letter every time. It does this with two different drives in all USB ports. I have been doing some reading and I don't have any network drives, I have also already tried USBDLM and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Specs: ProLiant ML150 G5 with Windows 2003 Enterprise and all updates installed. Any ideas on what I can try to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Chris

• Making an advertising server ads from different ad networks

  In India there are many ad-networks(other than Adsense) who pay per acquisition or per lead. So Javascript ad code is not required(as fraud clicks don't matter as long as one converts). So an ad network will have many companies and each company will have many banner sizes for ads. Also suddenly any ad may be stopped just because company's target has met. Which is a common nuisance since if we don't remove those url's then that company will get conversions for free. I've a dozen sites and removing the ads are difficult every now and then. Also CPA based ads may not convert at all. That means I'll need to remove non-performing ads regularly. I've gone through: How can I show multiple ad networks on my site? . I've also visited DFP solution but without Adsense they wouldn't let me open account. I want to make an ad server wherein I'll feed new ads (banner image + link for click). I want to maintain categories there like ( shoes, phones, books etc). So if an ad is paused - i'll simply remove/pause the ad there while other ads in the category keep running. Also changing ad code within sites will no more be required. For example - let me have an ad category "clothing" where I can add ads from different companies. So if one of my site requests an ad from there it'll randomly select an ad in this category and return it to site for display. Removing/adding ads within this category will not affect the site requesting those ads. Any idea how to implement it?

• Problems with Maverick upgrade

  I upgraded to Maverick 10.10 from Lucid. I have an old Toshiba Satellite with a 1.1 MHz and 256MB RAM. Initially I couldn't get my wireless to work. That solved itself after installing various updates and programs. The problems that remain are: I have to authorize at least 2 times at start-up. This machine is Ubuntu only. No boot load screen. I have a ton of programs and system directories that are in my home folder. Is this normal? It is difficult to wake the computer from sleep. Usually I just shut it down and restart. Tonight I waited and got a message about corrupt memory. The computer takes forever to do just about everything. Slow to start programs or doing things on the web. I am a longtime Mac user (since 1986). I also manage a network of several windoze machines. I am definitely a GUI guy and do very little in the terminal so I really need to know where to begin to get things straightened out. Can I rescue this machine without wiping it and doing a fresh install? This is basically a hobby machine. Aside from all the programs and upgrades I've installed, I have almost no files or documents to worry about saving. Anyone have any ideas about the problems I'm having and the best way to proceed? • Can Remote Desktop be set up to use IPv6?

  I have both a Windows 7 Ultimate and a Windows XP Professional machine set up on my home network. I would like to be able to access them from school. Port forwarding is not currently an option (long story). Is there a way to set it so that I can RDP (yes it has to be RDP not something like TeamViewer or LogMeIn) over IPv6, possibly using Teredo? I have tried but I can't seem to get it working. Also I cannot ping these machines' IPv6 addresses. How can I get this set up?

  Hi I want to protect SSH access to our live web server from all IP's except our office static IP. There are some employees who connects to this live server from their dynamic IP's. So, it is not always possible for me to change in the iptables rule in live server whenever the dynamic IP of the employee changes. I tried to put them in office VPN and allowed only SSH access from office IP but the office connection is slow in compared to our employee's private internet connection, moreover it adds an extra overhead to our office network. Is there any way I can solve this problem ?

  Hi, I'm trying to set up something on my network so that when users connect and try and use the internet they are re-directed to a locally-hosted terms and conditions and policy page. Once they click "accept" then they will be passed through to their homepage, otherwise if they decline then the window will close or show them an error message. I've spent a while looking into this and am wondering if it's possible to do witout having to setup/add to a firewall. Otheriwse let me know what my options are and I can pass it on. Many Thanks Tom

• Blank screen after GRUB (64 bit) - cannot install Ubuntu

  My laptop's specs: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 Intel Core i5-2410M @ 2.3Ghz 6 Gb RAM DDR3 640 Gb ATAPI Hard-disk Drive @ 5,200 RPM NVIDIA GeForce G520M with Optimus switching technology Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter REALTEK soundcard Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit I downloaded Ubuntu Studio 11.04 and burned the iso image onto two different DVDs, using two different programs (one DVD is RW, the other is just R). I verified the hash MD5sum thing. I get as far as GRUB with the 4 options (install, advanced install, disk verification, system rescue) but no matter which one I select, I get a blank screen and nothing happens. The DVD drive spins down after about 30 seconds. Also just before the GRUB screen I get a message saying Error: "Prefix" is not set. I'm not sure if that's relevant. I have tried all the options using both DVDs. Same thing happens. I have changed the graphics setting in BIOS to UMA or Optimus, but still happens either way. I've tried booting with the wireless switch turned off, same thing happens. I downloaded 'vanilla' Ubuntu 64-bit and burned onto a CD, and the same thing happens. I have downloaded Ubuntu 32-bit and I am able to boot from the live CD (interestingly the wireless card won't work, but that's maybe another issue). I have searched extensively through these forums and other sites but I can't see anything that will help me. Is there something I'm missing? I'd really appreciate help on this. The laptop is less than 2 weeks old. I was so looking forward to getting Ubuntu Studio up and running. I've gone about as far as my technical abilities will allow.

When i trying to access my computer from LAN (other computer), it shows unable to connect. when i ping my IP from remote computer, its pinging OK. I can access internet, and all other systems (http, smb). But the problem is no one can't access my computer remotely in my LAN network. My ip is 192.168.85.105 and i want access(Appaceh,SMB) from 192.168.85.10. Is there any proxy firewall settings? I had tried following commands.. sudo iptables -F or sudo iptables-restore [logout require] If it does not work then try to disable net-filter sudo ufw --disable Please give me the solution.

• Create access point (uap0) on debian 7(arm) - not found?

  I'm working with a fanless PC that has an ARM chipset, 2 eth plugs and a wifi card (among other things). If I install debian 6 on it all three network interfaces are available at boot time. Today I tried to install debian 7 and had numerous errors indicating that the wireless card isn't supported. uap0: error fetching interface information: Device not found SIOCSIFADDR: No such device uap0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device uap0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device No such device ERR:UAPHOSTCMD is not supported by uap0 ERR:Command sending failed! No such device ERR:UAPHOSTCMD is not supported by uap0 ERR:Command sending failed! I've tried comparing the kernel module list to the working system but there are too many other differences to make something obvious enough (to me) stand out. How would I get started debugging this problem?

  I am trying to setup a lab network with OpenVSwitch (Virtual L3 Switch). I want to connect my 3 Virtualbox guest machines (running Debian 6) using OpenVSwitch. But, confused as what should I do first and how should I do this. I mean should I install OpenVSwitch on my VM or on my host machine? If I install on my host machine, then should I make to connect to my VMs. OR If I install OpenVSwitch on one of my VM, then how to connect the rest of the VMs to virtual switch. I know, there is option to connect internal networks in virtualbox, but I a want L3 switch to interconnect my VLANs. Can someone guide me here. Please & Thank you.

• Unable to connect to another computer from the Task Scheduler on Windows 7

  I am getting the following error when trying to connect to another computer from the Task Scheduler on Windows 7: "The remote computer was not found." The computer that I am trying to connect to is definitely on the network as I can ping it and browse its shared folders in Windows Explorer. Note that I get the same error message when trying to perform the same operation from Performance Monitor. This suggests that I need to something to enable remote connection to the Task Scheduler. I am not very experienced with Windows administration and I am not sure where to look. To give a bit more context, I want to use the Task Scheduler to automatically start Perf Mon on a few machines at my company. I'd like to setup the Task Scheduler remotely. Does anyone know what I need to do?

• hung up troubleshooting packet discards

  I realize my question is generic, but hopefully someone may have some guidance for me. My network consists of Cisco switches. I am seeing a significant amount (upwards of millions of packets per day) transmit drops between two switches. One being a 3750 and the other a 3560. The peak throughput of this link is only upper 400Mbps, so it shouldn't be a bandwidth issue. At this point, I am sort of clueless where to look or what tools I can use to determine what packets are dropping and why. I can setup a SPAN port on that link and wireshark it, but I don't know if that could tell me anything. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  webm html5 videos that are played through a domain on my server sometimes lose connection. A video that is playing will start to buffer and then stop part of way through with that message "Video playback aborted due to a network error." displayed on the html5 video player. I am delivering the webm videos via a php script on an LAMP server. There doesn't seem to be any errors in the server logs. Is there any php.ini settings or httpd.conf that I need to set? I recently set 'Keep Alive" to "on" in httpd.conf could that be causing this?

  i would have to elaborate my questions so please have patience Explaining the logic. if you are familiar with logmein then it installs a client software on your computer then it kinda keeps tracks where you computer is as long as it's connected to internet. So you can always access your computer no matter where it is whatever it's IP is you just go to logmein.com and then you can just access it. Now what i am asking 1. Let's assume i have a website hosted on my laptop let's call it webserver. so then i move around i have a new IP sometime even on a hotel network is it possible to do something like what logmein does so i can keep moving around my Webserver to new IP but it has some local client or something which keeps updating my IP or something i am sure i would need a gateway server somewhere which is connected to my domain name via DNS so somebody accessing my website www.mywebsite.com goes to my main server then gets routed to my laptop which could be anywhere but my gateway server is able to communicate to my webserver I will keep updating the case description based on comments to make more sense. please have patience with me.   Since a short while I'm using Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot (11.10) with gnome-shell (Gnome 3) and I'm trying to get accustomed to the default Empathy Instant Messaging client. I'm using a gateway service on the side of my Jabber/XMPP server to communicate with lots of contacts over proprietary networks like ICQ or MSN. So I don't use Empathy's native support for ICQ and MSN, and I don't want to change back to using such a thing for various reasons. One thing that annoys me is that Empathy does not make it clear to me that these contacts are from another instant messaging network. If I enable the View Show Protocols option they are all recognized as Jabber/XMPP contacts. Although I perfectly understand why that happens, I would like to be able to change this behavior to make Empathy mark these contacts correctly. Is there a configuration option or a plugin for this? Or may this feature still be in development and will be available later?

• Netgear WNR1000 WiFi speed

  I have Netgear WNR1000 150N, Macbook Pro 13" with Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0, Network connection 60mbps When I connect through the cable I easily get around 60mbps. When I go through the WiFi it's capable to get only 32mbps at tops. Any ideas why is that? Is that my router limitation or maybe my WiFi card? If it is routers fault what router would you suggest.
