• Generating PDF document using XSLT

  I have one huge XML document. I have set of XSL representing each node in the XML. These XSL also have java script to generate the dynamic content. It uses images which are in seperate images folder and it uses fonts as well. At present, I have a program which displays all the nodes that can be transformed and user click on one of the node and the program performs XSLT and display the content in HTML format on IE screen. I want to write a program (.Net , C# or any .Net language) which will allow user to do XSLT tranform on all the available notes and create one PDF document. My initial requirement was to display all the document in the IE itself, so I reused the existing code, and foreach node, perform XSLT and then append it to the current HTML with a page break and it worked ok till we hit huge files. So the requirement changed to create one PDF file with all the nodes. I have couple of questions, 1. What is the best way to create PDF file using XSLT transformation? 2. Since the images are relative path, if we generate the XSLT in html and then write it to a output stream will it loose the images? 3. Will the font be preserved in the PDF document? Really appriciate if someone could point me to some good example that I can take and run with it. Thanks a lot.

• What are the most time consuming checks performed by .NET when executing a managed appplication?

  I've developed a .NET based Windows service that uses part managed (C#) and unmanaged code (C/C++ libraries). In some domain environments (e.g. Win 2k3 32bit server inside domain abc.com) sometimes the service takes more than 30 seconds to start (especially on OS restart), thus failing to start the service. I suspect that it has something to do with enterprise level security but I do not know for sure. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa720255%28VS.71%29.aspx I've tried the following without success: - delay loading references by moving the using directives as far as possible from the servicebase implementation (especially the xml namespace - know to cause delays in loading) - delay loading and configuring log4net - precompiling the code by using ngen - delaying the start of the worker thread - add/remove manifest + decencies set inside - sign/unsign the binaries - use the configuration settings (there are a lot of settings and the scope level for all is set to application ) as later as possible - add all dependencies to GAC I didn't tried yet to add security demands for the class that has the Main method implemented. I didn't tries to implement my own configuration loader because after inspecting the autogenerated code, I've noticed that the setting class is a singletone and it gets its instance on call. By completely removing the log4net dependency it worked, but this is not an option. When the network card is disabled the service starts immediately. Any suggestions/comments/solution you have would be most welcomed.

• SharePoint Item Event Receivers and Site Creation

  I have created an Item Event Receiver for a document library and I have test that the logic works correctly and it all does. The next thing I wanted to do is automatically create the list when a site is created so I added the list to the ONET.xml file for the site: <Lists> <List Title="Documents" Description="Documents " url="MyDocumentLibrary" Type="10002" FeatureId="CFD8504D-70EB-4ba2-9CCB-52E38DB39E60" QuickLaunchUrl="Docs/AllItems.aspx" /> </Lists> And I ensure that the feature for this list is also activated be adding the feature to the <WebFeatures> <Feature ID="CFD8504D-70EB-4ba2-9CCB-52E38DB39E60" /> </WebFeatures> The problem occurs after I create the site, when I add a document to the list the Item Event Receiver does not run. However if I manually for to the web site features and deactivate and then reactivate the feature the Item Event Receiver does run. It seems that when creating a list through the ONET.xml and activating the feature it does not bind the Item Event Receiver to the list. What is the work around for this? Is this a bug?

  I can use the following code to attach a log file to my Gallio 3.2 acceptance test report: TestLog.AttachPlainText("Attached log file", File.ReadAllText(path)); When I run my tests locally I can see the log file contents by viewing the report in my web browser. However, if I run the tests under CCNET 1.4.4 I get the following error when I try to browse to an attached file in the report via the web dashboard: Exception Message The attachment was not inlined into the XML report. • How to search cvs comment history

  I am aware of this command: cvs log -N -w<userid> -d"1 day ago" Unfortunately this generates a formatted report with lots of newlines in it, such that the file-path, the file-version, and the comment-text are all on separate lines. Therefore it is difficult to scan it for all occurrences of comment text, (eg, grep), and correlate the matches to file/version. (Note that the log output would be perfectly acceptable, if only cvs could perform the filtering natively.) EDIT: Sample output. • 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'data'

Not sure if this could be the issue. Note the ^M shown! when I tried parsing the string returned from the server to get the names and values using the code sample: elements = minidom.parseString(xmldoc).getElementsByTagName("property") myDict = {} for element in elements: myDict[element.getAttribute('name')] = element.firstChild.data But, I am getting this error: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'data'. • is it possible to display video information from an rtsp stream in an android app UI

• Hadoop reduce task gets hung

  I set up a hadoop cluster with 4 nodes, When running a map-reduce task, the map task finishes quickly, while the reduce task hangs at 27% percent. I checked the log, it's that the reduce task fails to fetch map output from map nodes. The job tracker log of master shows messages like this: 2011-06-27 19:55:14,748 INFO org.apache.hadoop.mapred.JobTracker: Adding task (REDUCE) 'attempt_201106271953_0001_r_000000_0' to tip task_201106271953_0001_r_000000, for tracker 'tracker_web30.bbn.com.cn:localhost/127.0.0.1:56476' And the name node log of master shows messages like this: 2011-06-27 14:00:52,898 INFO org.apache.hadoop.ipc.Server: IPC Server handler 4 on 54310, call register(DatanodeRegistration(202.106.199.39:50010, storageID=DS-1989397900-202.106.199.39-50010-1308723051262, infoPort=50075, ipcPort=50020)) from 192.168.225.19:16129: error: java.io.IOException: verifyNodeRegistration: unknown datanode 202.106.199.3 9:50010 However, neither the "web30.bbn.com.cn" or 202.106.199.39, 202.106.199.3 is the slave node. I think such ip/domains appear because hadoop fails to resolve a node(first in the Intranet DNS server), then it goes to a higher-level DNS server, later to the top, still fails, then the "junk" ip/domains are returned. But I checked my config, it goes like this: /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost ::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6 192.168.225.16 master 192.168.225.66 slave1 192.168.225.20 slave5 192.168.225.17 slave17 conf/core-site.xml: hadoop.tmp.dir /root/hadoop_tmp/hadoop_${user.name} fs.default.name hdfs://master:54310 io.sort.mb 1024 hdfs-site.xml: dfs.replication 3 masters: master slaves: master slave1 slave5 slave17 Also, all firewalls(iptables) are turned off, and ssh between each 2 nodes is ok. so I don't know where exact the error comes from. Basically, I want to be able to access the items from "items_last_week" and create a list of them - originally my plan was to have the 'thumbnail' on the left with the 'item' next to it, but from playing around with the SDK today it appears too difficult or impossible to achieve this, so I would be more than happy with just having the 'item' data from 'items_last_week' in the list. Coming from php I'm struggling to use any of the JSON libraries which are available to Java, as it appears to be much more than a line of code which I will need to deserialize (I think that's the right word) the JSON, and they all appear to require some form of additional class, apart from the JSONArray/JSONObject script I have which doesn't like the fact that items_last_week is nested (again, I think that's the JSON terminology) and takes an awful long time to run on the Android emulator. So, in effect, I need a (preferably simple) way to pass the items_last_week data to a ListView. I understand I will need a custom adapter which I can probably get my head around but I cannot understand, no matter how much of the day I've just spent trying to figure it out, how to access certain parts of a JSON string..

• 401 Unauthorized returned on GET request (https) with correct credentials

  I am trying to login to my web app using HttpWebRequest but I keep getting the following error: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. I am using doc a from java code, I am do Caching for doc a as a javax.xml.transform.Templates object to prevent multiple reads to the xsl file on every transformation request. I found that, the doc b is re-calling itself from the harddisk, I believe this is because of the document('') function above, so I wanna replace/remove it. Thanks.

• Maven: properties not being substituted

  I'm using a maven plugin for install4j in my project, located here. That plugin lets you pass variables to install4j using the <compilerVariables> section. • HDFS some datanodes of cluster are suddenly disconnected while reducers are running

  I have 8 slave computers and 1 master computer for running Hadoop (ver 0.21) some datanodes of cluster are suddenly disconnected while I was running MapReduce code on 10GB data After all mappers finished and around 80% of reducers was processed, randomly one or more datanode disconned from network. and then the other datanodes start to disappear from network even if I killed the MapReduce job when I found some datanode was disconnected.   Well, I have an ActiveX (*.ocx) component, and i use it in a managed C++/CLI project: write a managed wrapper around ActiveX component[ NET has a great Interop services : provides me genarated dll so i can easily use it in my managed code] The problem is that Visual Studio (2008) automatically copy the generated Interop *.dll to the directory where my *.exe file stay.But i want put all my genarated Interop *.dll to a folder ... Suppose My directory structure is so: D:\MyProject\Output\MyProject.exe //My mamanged exe D:\MyProject\Output\Interop.XXXLib.1.0.dll // *Interop .dll I want to put Interop.XXXLib.1.0.dll into new folder D:\MyProject\Output\Interops and use it from that directory...How Can i do it? • Querying a database using Cocoa.

  Hello everybody. Before I start a disclaimer, I should add a little disclaimer, that I am relatively new to Cocoa development and C in general. However I do have a copy of 'Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X 3rd edition' by Aaron Hillegass, which I am working through and using as a base, if anybody has a copy I am using the 'AmaZone' example on page 346 as a template and base. I trying to develop a small client app that takes a search string then displays results from a database accordingly. The database will contain a: list of files, their location, description & creation date, so for the moment the field number and types will remain the same. After looking around on SO, I saw something like: NSURL *myURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.myserver.com/results.php"]; NSArray *sqlResults = [[NSArray alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:myURL]; I've worked with php before, so my current thinking after seeing this is create a php script on the server that queries the database, and creates an XML output. And with the XML response, just parse it. Would this be ok? as is there any major pitfalls anybody can see, that I can't. I know there are some database bundles, I've had a look at BaseTen for Postgres, but being relatively new to this, didn't want to get in over my head. Or if anybody else has any other suggestions and ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.
