  • Is there a Java Descriptor like thing in .Net?

    I'm working on a static analysis tool for .NET assembly. In Java, there is a Descriptor which can be used to represent method or field in a string with specified grammar. for field: double d[][][]; will be [[[D It's useful especially when doing bytecode analysis. Coz it's easy to describe. If there a similar thing in .NET CLR? Or is there a better way to achieve this? Thanks!

  • Why can't I expose an interface in a .NET asmx web service?

    I have a .NET web service (using asmx...have not upgraded to WCF yet) that exposes the following: public class WidgetVersion1 : IWidget {} public class WidgetVersion2 : IWidget {} When I attempt to bind to the web service, I get the following serialization error: Cannot serialize member WidgetVersion1 of type IWidget because it is an interface. I have tried adding various attributes to the IWidget interface (XmlIgnore, SoapIgnore, NonSerialized), but they are not valid on an interface. Does anyone know why I am unable to expose the interface? I assume WSDL does not support interfaces, but couldn't .NET get around this by simply not serializing the interface? Are there any ways around this apart from removing the IWidget interface from the WidgetVersion1 and WidgetVersion2 class definitions?

    I am looking for a .NET library that is able to decode data from a PDF-417 barcode that is embedded either in an image file or PDF. At this point, I have only been able to find a Java version and a C version. Ideally, this library would be both open-source and free of charge, but I doubt such a decoder exists. I am open to trying out demos of existing products that you may have had experience with - which leads me to the question - have you had any experience reading PDF-417 barcodes embedded in images or PDFs using .NET, and which of the available products would you recommend to do so?

    I've worked on a few Java web projects and we've always used Hibernate for our data object layer. I haven't worked on a large scale ASP.NET site and I'm unsure which solution to choose. I'm tempted to try NHibernate, but I don't like the fact that they use so many third party libraries. This is great, but I have a hard time to understand how MVC workswith in a 3-tier (Data Layer, Business Layer and Presentation Layer) architecture. Can we say that the Model, View and Controller are part of the Presentation Layer? Is the Model part of the Business Layer? In brief, how MVC and 3-tier architecture can work together?   • Rendering "partial" pages in ASP.Net? (without the <html> and such)

    Hello, I am trying to make use of jQueryUI AJAX tabs in my ASP.Net Webforms project. I have come up against a wall though. For AJAX, you must render only a partial page(no <html> and such elements) by an external URL. How would you best do this in ASP.Net? aspx files require things like a <html> and <head> tag so those wouldn't work so the only thing that comes to mind is using cumbersome ashx files. Am I just over thinking this? Is there an easier way?

    I noticed that we always just are like: SmtpClient mSmtpClient = new SmtpClient(); // Send the mail message mSmtpClient.Send(mMailMessage); And the only place the credentials are set are in web.config: <system.net> <mailSettings> <smtp> <network host="xxx.xx.xxx.229" userName="xxxxxxxx" password="xxxxxxxx"/> </smtp> </mailSettings> </system.net> So my question is, how does it automagically get them out?

  • Why wont my .NET 3.5 app run on fresh installation of windows7?

    In C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework i see v3.0 and v3.5. I found that path in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot which also has that path. In C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework i see versions from 1 to 3.5 My app was built in msvs2010rc1 targeting 3.5. In fact in my project files i see v3.5. So whats with this? Why cant i run it? -edit- The application crashes on double click. With no exception dialog. Ok i see the problem. Sorry guys :$. I hope this post serves as a reference to someone else. I completely forgot that my app uses SDL.NET and i am use to C++ telling me i have forgotten a DLL.

    Hello All, I have an ASP.NET 3.5 webforms project written in VB that involves a multi-table SQL Server insert. That is, I want the customer to input all their contact information, order details etc. into one control (thinking wizard control). Then, I want to call a stored procedure that does the insert into the respective database tables. I'm familiar and comfortable with the ASP.NET wizard control. However, all the examples I've seen in my searches pertain to inserting data into one table. Questions: 1. Given a typical order process - customer information, order information, order details - should a wizard control be used to insert data into multiple database tables? If not, what controls/workflow do you suggest? 2. I've set primary keys and indexes on my order details, orders and customers tables. Is there special stored procedure syntax to use to ensure that referential integrity is maintained through the insert process? Thanks, Sid

    Hi All, This might be a duplicate entry. Excuse me if it is. I was asked in an interview as to how does Windows OS differentiate between regular exe and .Net exe. My reply was, when .Net exe is build, the compiler emits some information into the header. The information is PE32 or PE32+. windows verifies the header to determine if it needs to load the MSCOREE.dll which loads the CLR and executes the exe. I am not sure if my answer is correct ? Your inputs is appreciated.

    My app is currently written to accept vendor and product information like this. http://www.mydomain.com/foo.aspx?v=1&p=100 could this be re-written like this? http://www.mydomain.com/1/100/foo Since the values in the original query string are database IDs, how would I express newly created IDs as segments of the "path" in the re-written version of the URL?     VB.NET 2008 .NET 3.5 I have two base classes that are MustInherit (partial). Let's call one class OrderBase and the other OrderItemBase. A specific type of order and order item would inherit from these classes. Let's call these WebOrder (inherits from OrderBase) and WebOrderItem (inherits from OrderItemBase). Now, in the grand scheme of things WebOrder is a composite class containing a WebOrderItem, like so: Public Class WebOrder Inherits OrderBase Public Property OrderItem() as WebOrderItem End Property End Class Public Class WebOrderItem Inherits OrderItemBase End Class In order to make sure any class that derives from OrderBase has the OrderItem property, I would like to do something like this in the OrderBase class: Public MustInherit Class OrderBase Public MustOverride Property OrderItem() as Derivative(Of OrderItemBase) End Class In other words, I want the derived class to be forced to contain a property that returns a derivative of OrderItemBase. Is this possible, or should I be using an entirely different approach?

  • asp.net app slow and not rendering but .txt file works fine?

    i have a load balanced set of 2 servers running a .net application that is loading slow and not at all to the point the load balancer is redirecting me and my users to our dr server. i added a hard coded file to both servers to tell what server is working and not. both pull the txt file and display its contents in no time. however the asp.net pages dont render. the DB is not sweating and even a plain .aspx page doesnt come up. any thoughts on trouble shooting this?

  • Can I attach a .NET TraceListener to an externally running process?

    I am developing an application scheduling program that will run other applications using System.Diagnostics.Process. The external applications are of various types (some .NET and some not). For those external apps that have trace logging enabled, is there a way that I can attach the tracelistener of the parent/calling application to listen to and record all the trace output from the child/called application to the parent application's trace output? This is not primarily for debugging purposes. This is more to track trace output from all the various scheduled applications by collecting it into one place as much as possible. The scheduler app is still in the early design stages, but will be .NET, and I'm trying to clear up potential design issues before I get into it too far.
