• 14.04_x64 / Nvidia GT 240 , HUGE font notificaton at greeter and in naulitus after log-in

  I've been using 12.04 for a long time - excellent version indeed, I decided to try 14.04 today. Installing without any problems. My VGA is Nvidia GT240 (legacy one), Nouveau display driver is fine, font display is normal. Then, I decided to install Nvidia legacy binary driver 304.117 updates (proprietary) instead of default Nouveau display driver. Problems come after rebooting At Greeter a notification "Wired connection 1 -Connected" pop up but with a HUGE font. After log-in HUGE FONT symptom still remains at some parts - for example, Calendar, Desktop shortcut and Files explorer. within few seconds, 10 to 15 may be, there is a screen blink but HUGE font still remains. I have to log out then log in again to have normal font in all parts of system. Changing driver, even an update one form ppa:xorg-edgersnot doesn't solve the problem. Any advices or solutions will be appreciated.

  I would like to put a program together to calculate the number of 60' pieces would be needed from a list of shorter pieces. For example, I sell rebar cut to length from our standard length of 60'-0". Now the length the customer requires are as follows: 343 pc @ 12.5' 35 pc @ 13' 10 pc @ 15' 63 pc @ 15.5'....... There are 56 total lengths ranging from 12.5' to 30.58' The idea is to limit the amount of waste from the 60' piece. The input from the user would be: number of differnt lengths Length of piece to cut from count of different lengths The result would be the number of prime pieces needed to fulfill the order. What well-known algorithms exist that could help me solve this problem?

• how can i track visits to ALL of the subpages of my website COMBINED TOGETHER?

  Right now im using statcounter and google analytics. They are great. But my counts are currently separated. Ex: website.com = 1000 visits a day, website.com/about = 50 visits a day, website.com/privacy = 10 visits a day, etc.. How can have a combined count of all of my sub-pages? (mainpage + about page + about 100 other sub-pages ) I can of course manually add them all together, but that's time consuming because there are many pages. I tried placing a separate tracking code in a php include that sits in each of the sub-pages, but it doesnt seem to be working. It seems to require a single URL to create it, which it then only counts the visits from the one url, rather than ALL of them. Ex: website.com) Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully im just missing something very obvious. Thank you!

• Why Does Unity lag Often That I have To Manually Shutdown/Restart my Core i3 Laptop?

  I did a fresh install of Ubuntu then do did some upgrades. After my next restart when I try to open Ubuntu Software Center it took about 20 seconds for the window to load then 10 more seconds before it became click able. While doing some installation of software, Unity lags like hell that every time I click any application it takes a few seconds before I can see it. Even GEdit take a lot of time to load. The worst part was when I was doing nothing to my computer. Even on that part, my computer lags. My Laptop is a Brand New Core i3 with 2GB of RAM. Unity should run perfectly on that kind of machine right? BTW: I reinstalled Ubuntu 11.04 for about 5 times now and still nothing changed.

  I'm a native Windows user, running 7 Home Premium atm. In the past I installed Ubuntu 10 on my netbook I believe, but was a bit 'scared' by it. Anyways, I made a partition on my desktop pc, 100gb and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. It was pretty slow first thought it had to install updates or something, so I rebooted it. Now after the login it looks like everything freezes, I can move my mouse only ,but that's it! I can see my desktop and launcher, but the task bar doesn't display time and misc system info, only a black bar, I downloaded the android SDK pack and installed vlc media player before I rebooted. My computer info: - 1tb HDD - 8gb ddr3 ram - ATI Radeon 4890 videocard (1gb) - AMD Phenom 2 x4 black 3,2ghz CPU(64 bits) Thanks in advantage!

  I want to write a game as my final year diploma project.(I'm a 4th-year-student now so I've got a year and several months). But I don't know what to choose: either write my own game engine using DirectX9(10)(I don't like OpenGL) or use OGRE + PhysX(Don't like Unity) I'm more interested in writing my own game engine(but I wonder if I'll create engine on the same level as even Unreal 1.0 hah) but on the other side with PhysX I'll have advanced physics in my game and with OGRE I'll have good grahics.   I've transferred a domain and made a mistake in the redirects (the URL structure is identical). Even though they went to the new domain, the error caused a 404 when crawled by Google bot. 10 days after I saw and corrected my redirect mistake, and now the site should (hopefully) redirect to proper pages. Q1: The URLs of the 404 pages in the Webmaster Tools all bear the mistake and will never be available at the new site. I marked them as fixed in the tools. Do I need to do something about that, like 301 rewrite them with a condition to fix the error? Q2: Does Google bot attempt to recrawl 301 pages that pointed to a 404?

  I am not sure I am working the problem correctly but I will try my best. I am newbie to ubuntu and I am using Ubuntu 11.10. On a daily basis but I have a set of 5-10 folders which I need to refer for my work. I am looking for a way if I can create a "workspace" of these folders so that upon restart in a single click all the folders in the workspace can be opened in different tabs. Another option that I right now plan to use us create links of the folders and then select all of them and open in different tabs. Was wondering if there is a cleaner option already provided in ubuntu.

• Live USB does not work

  I've made live USB using these "Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.1.9", "unetbootin-windows-581", "YUMI-0.0.8.0" & "LinuxLive USB Creator 2.8.18" in "FAT32" format, but unfortunately I could not boot using the pen-drive. My BIOS supports boot from USB drive. When I am booting from the live usb, it just show black screen with a blinking "_", but nothing happens after that( I have waited more than 10 minutes, but nothing happens). So, can anyone please help me on this? [Additional Info.: I've made Bootable USB using PowerISO and that booted, but it was not possible to access the USB normally afterwards,because PowerISO formatted the USB Drive as RAW(or anything I don't know) and it became 8GB to 700MB, afterwards I had to format it using MiniTool Partition manager.]

  I am getting a "Package Operations Failed" message at the 95% mark of each download. Details show "Reading database" for each 5 percentage segment until Reading database ... 95%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error aborting: failed in buffer_read(fd): files list for package `gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' I have tried to download a number of piece of software (most recently PDF Editor) and am getting the same message at the same point in the download. Is there something wrong with my Ubuntu version, a virus or is it the software being downloaded? Using 10.04 LTS. P.S. Same problem when trying to download updates.

  I have an animation of traffic. I have 20 cars in road network, each car have a starting node and end node. Each car know how much distance does it need to travel in order to reach the end node. I move cars each 20 ms for 10 px. To move all cars from their start node to end node I need 60 iterations. That is 60*20ms = 1200ms. Now I want to convert this time, or use data that I have, to a real time where car move 50km/h. How can I do that? Any idea?

  Where can I find a collection of 10-100 3D scenes with photorealistic levels of detail? For example, the scene rendered here contains photorealistic detail. Note I want the underlying object models, textures, etc, not final renderings. I'll be using these scenes to test a computer vision idea. BTW, this is a reposting of this question.   After recently announcing it, one of my readers with a background in website management sent me an email saying that I should reconsider moving my domain from [keyword]news.org to [same keyword]lab.com. It is a content-heavy news site around products that I hope to eventually build into a more comprehensive authority for the [keyword] industry I'm covering w/ B2B services, merchandise, etc. The current domain is a bit generic & I think the new one will be more marketable. Relevant stats: 320k-350k pv's/month Google brings in 39% and Yahoo/Bing 4% of traffic 10-11% of monthly search strings contains " news" SEOMoz Open Site Explorer stats: Page authority: 65/100 Domain authority: 58/100 Linking root domains: 226 Total links: 35,700 I am familiar with what I need to do as far as 301 redirects, etc. I was assuming that I'd be ok after following Google's recommended procedures but now I am not so sure.
