• MS SQL Return 1 Row Per Boat

  Basically, what I want to do is join 4 tables together and return 1 row for each boat. Table Layouts [Boats] id, date, section, raft [Photos] id, boatid, pthurl, purl [River_Company] id, sort, company, company_short [River_Section] id, section Its very simple as far as structure, however, I've having the time of my life trying to get it to return only 1 row. No boat will ever be on the same day, the only thing that's messing this up is the photo table. If you know a better way for it to return the record table for all the boats boats and only 1 photo from the photo table, please, please post it!!

I wrote a sql like this: select tmp1.id,sum,cond1,cond2 as count from ( select id, count(*) as sum from table_1 group by table1.id) tmp1 left join ( select id, count(*) as cond1 from table1 where condition1 group by table1.id) tmp2 on tmp1.id=tmp2.id left join ( select id, count(*) as cond2 from table1 where condition2 group by table1.id) tmp3 on tmp1.id=tmp3.id the problem is that this is very poor efficiency, it will be better if i could use the result of tmp1, but i don't know how to do that. update: simplified the sql, what i mean is how to reuse the first select result of table_1

  I've got a flex/air app I've been working on, it uses a local sqlite database that is created on the initial application start. I've added some features to the application and in the process I had to add a new field to one of the database tables. My questions is how to I go about getting the application to create one new field that is located in a table that already exists? this is a the line that creates the table stmt.text = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS tbl_status ("+"status_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,"+" status_status TEXT)"; And now I'd like to add a status_default field. thanks! Thanks - MPelletier I've add the code you provided and it does add the field, but now the next time I restart my app I get an error - 'status_default' already exists'. So how can I go about adding some sort of a IF NOT EXISTS statement to the line you provided?

• Web site aggregation with twitter widget SSL issue

  Hello! I'm seeking for solution how to isolate widget included by partial to main site. Issue appear when user access site with https. Ie 6,7 shows security confirmation dialog (part of website resources are not in secure zone). First of all I download twitter widget on our side, also I download all CSS and pictures. Then I patched widget JS to point onto downloaded resources. But still has not luck with security warning :( I guess the reason of this issue is AJAX request to twitter, but there is no idea how to sole it. (Just to create some kind of proxy on our side).   I've recently become a little frustrated with Django as a whole. It seems like I can't get full control over anything. I love Python to death, but I want to be able (and free) to do something as simple as adding a css class to an auto-generated form. One MVC framework that I have really been enjoying working with is Grails (groovy). It has a FANTASTIC templating system and it lets you really have full control as you'd like. However, I am beyond obsessed with Python. So I'd like to find something decent and powerful written in it for my web application development. Any suggestions? Pylons maybe?

• Setting Sql server security rights for multiple situations

  We have an application which uses an instance of Sql Server locally for its backend storage. The administrator windows login has had its sysadmin right revoked, and instead two sql logins have been created; one for the application with a secret password and one read only login we let users view the raw data with. This was working fine until we moved on FileStreams, which requires intergrated windows authentication. So now the sql server logins must be replaced. As a result, I am now reviewing all of our logins but I am not sure how it is possible. It seems that the application needs full read/write access, yet I still need to lock down writing to the tables so the user cannot login into the database and delete data randomly. Does anyone have any tips for setting multiple levels of security using intergrated windows logins, or can you direct me to any further reading?   Hi everyone, I've got a problem with using for xml explicit in SQL Server 2000 (so I can't use the new path() stuff from sql 2005/8) Essentially I have two tables and the XML structure I want to have is <xml> <table_1 field1="foo" field2="foobar2" field3="foobar3"> <a_row_from_table_2 field1="goo" field2="goobar2" field3="goobar3" /> <a_row_from_table_2 field1="hoo" field2="hoobar2" field3="hoobar3" /> </table_1> </xml> That is, table_1 has a one-to-many relationship with table_2, and I want to make a hierarchy of it. So far I can't seem to get it, the closest I've managed to get is all the records from table1, with all the records from table2 appended to the very last element of table1 Any help with setting up this kind of relationship would be greatly appreciated. -Marcin

• How can I enjoy or avoid designing every web application I make ?

  I know this sounds silly, but I'm having huge problems (ok, not that huge, but still...) problems when I get an idea for a web project, small or big. The instant turn off is when I remember that I have to code the html/css by hand again and again. I like programming a lot more that designing web sites, and I simply don't enjoy designing them as much as I enjoy programming them. With that said, I also prefer simple and minimalistic designs. What is your approach in web design, how do you make it enjoyable (at least a little bit)?

• Compressing assets post-update with Subversion

  I'm trying to find a way to compress specific assets post-update on a Production server. So far, I can't find any way to do this that's even remotely simple. Anyone has any insights/experience in doing this? Basically, what I need to do is run a Java utility to compress CSS and JS files - the problem with JS files is that they may or might not validate (JS errors), if it doesn't validate the Java utility will throw output a message. This makes the whole idea a bit more complicated.

  Hi, I'm about to deploy to production a fairly complex site and for the first time need a staging environment where I can test things in a more realistic environment, especially with regard to some external services that cannot be run locally. My general plan is to develop & test first locally, push simple changes (small bug fixes, HTML/CSS, JS, etc) direct to production, and for larger changes, push first to staging subdomain for thorough testing and then to production. I don't think that I need to keep the staging and production databases in sync (occasional manual updating would do) but I'm wondering if there are any general good practices with regard to maintaing a staging environment in relation to a production environment, especially when it comes to databases. Any general thoughts/advice/experience would be appreciated.

• Fast permutation -> number -> permutation mapping algorithms

  I have n elements. For the sake of an example, let's say, 7 elements, 1234567. I know there are 7! = 5040 permutations possible of these 7 elements. I want a fast algorithm comprising two functions: f(number) maps a number between 0 and 5039 to a unique permutation, and f'(permutation) maps the permutation back to the number that it was generated from. I don't care about the correspondence between number and permutation, providing each permutation has its own unique number. So, for instance, I might have functions where f(0) = '1234567' f'('1234567') = 0 The fastest algorithm that comes to mind is to enumerate all permutations and create a lookup table in both directions, so that, once the tables are created, f(0) would be O(1) and f('1234567') would be a lookup on a string. However, this is memory hungry, particularly when n becomes large. Can anyone propose another algorithm that would work quickly and without the memory disadvantage?

• Entity Framework - Why does EF use LEFT OUTER JOIN's in a 1-to-1 relationship?

  Why does .NET Entity Framework produce SQL that uses a subquery and left outer join on a simple 1-to-1 relationship? I expected to see a simple join on the two tables. • Are ORM's counterproductive to OO design?

  In OOD, design of an object is said to be characterized by its identity and behavior. Having used OR/M's in the past, the primary purpose, in my opinion, revolves around the ability to store/retrieve data. That is to say, OR/M objects are not design by behavior, but rather data (i.e. database tables). Case and point: Many OR/M tools come with a point-to-a-database-table-and-click-object-generator. If objects are no longer characterized by behavior this will, in my opinion, muddy the identity and responsibility of the objects. Subsequently, if objects are not defined by a responsibility this could lend a hand to having tightly coupled classes and overall poor design. Furthermore, I would think that in an application setting, you would be heading towards scalability issues. So, my question is, do you think that ORM's are counterproductive to OO design? Perhaps the underlying question would be whether or not they are counterproductive to application development.

• Problem comparing keys in Appengine/Python

  I'm trying to create a relationship between "tables" with Appengine/Python. Imagine I have a "table" for items, and a table for colors. I save the color of an item by saving the color key as an atribute of the item. That's working well, but this particular piece of code is not working: <select id="colorKey" name="colorKey"> {% for color in colors %} <option value="{{ color.key }}"{% if color.key = item.colorKey %} selected="selected"{% endif %}> {{ color.name }} - {{ item.colorKey }} - {{ color.key }} </option> {% endfor %} </select> Since the {{ item.colorKey }} and {{ color.key }} variables are actually the same chain of characters, I only can think in a problem with the types. {{ item.colorKey }} is a string for sure. But maybe {{ color.key }} is not?

If defined, those classes overwrite the ones come from the skin. </rich:panel> from the RichFaces demo, in my JSF page and no header appears, although I've nothing in my css which would interfere.   I'm lazy loading my Doctrine classes in my website. Benchmarking has showed that Doctrine::loadModels('models') takes over 100 ms to complete!   I've upgraded a FlexBuilder3 project to FlashBuilder4, and I am seeing many compilation errors regarding unsupported tag attributes: The style 'backgroundDisabledColor' is only supported by type 'mx.controls.TextInput' with the theme(s) 'halo' Here is the offending mxml element: <mx:TextInput x="245" y="86" id="code1" maxChars="15" change="enableButton(event)" cornerRadius="9" borderStyle="solid" backgroundDisabledColor="#7977b6" /> ...what is the best workaround for this particular error? I was able to easily resolve a similar error with the "backgroundColor" attribute by changing it to "contentBackgroundColor", and was hoping there was a simple workaround for backgroundDisabledColor as well. I realize I can apply a css style, but I'd rather have a simpler solution as there are many many other attribute errors similar to this one.

Should I be doing this?

So now I've got two tables, TABLE1: ACCNO BAL1 BAL2 11111 20 10 And TABLE2 (which has the ACCNO key, of course) related rows to '11111': DATENUM AMT 1 -5 2 -10 3 8 4 -23 5 100 6 -120 7 140 Now I have to find the new BAL1 and BAL2 using the following rules: BAL1 AMT must be substracted from or added to BAL1 until BAL1 == 0 (and BAL2 0) if BAL1 reaches 0 then the (if any) remainder of BAL1 must be substracted from BAL2 if BAL2 reaches 0 too, from then only BAL1 should be modified. So using the above data: DATENUM AMT BAL1 BAL2 0 0 20 10 /*starting record*/ 1 -5 15 10 2 -10 5 10 3 8 13 10 4 -23 0 0 5 100 100 0 6 -120 -20 0 7 140 20 0 And I need the last two BAL1 and BAL2. • How do I regenerate statistics in Openx?

  ue to faulty hardware, statistics generated over a 2 week period were significantly higher than normal (10000 times higher than normal). After moving the application to a new server, the problem rectified itself. The issue I have is that there are 2 weeks of stats that are clearly wrong. I have checked the raw impressions table for the affected fortnight and it seems to be correct (ie. stats per banner per day match the average for the previous month). Looking at the intermediate & summary impressions tables, the values are inflated. I understand from the openx forum (http://forum.openx.org/index.php?s=7796fd9dae40e020a010773746f3ada9&showtopic=503424297) it's possible to regenerate stats from the raw data but it will only regenerate stats per hour, meaning regenerating stats for 2 weeks would be very time consuming. Is there another, more efficient way to regenerate the stats from the raw data for the affected fortnight?

• jQuery - How to remove a DOM element BEFORE complete page load

  Now this may seem like a silly question, but I need to know how to remove a DOM element BEFORE it is displayed to the user. In short, I am using a div that has a background image alerting the user to enable javascript before proceeding. If the user has javascript enabled I am using jQuery to remove the DOM element, in this case $(".check-js") which is the div housing the image. Using the conventional methods to unload DOM objects as follows does not work because it waits for the page load to complete, then removes the element, causing the image to flicker on and off each time the page loads: $(function(){ $(".check-js").css( {display:"none"} ) }) I simply want to remove the div if the user has js enabled, and he must never see this div. Any suggestions and I will be grateful, thanks.
