• WCF: Server Not Found - from trace Empty Message when run async but works fine from console app?

  Todays cause of hair loss has been the following scenario: I have a service that takes 2 strings and returns another. This service uses basicHttpBinding <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttpNoSec"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> Anyway, it works fine from a console test app. I have a silverlight app sat on top which implements another basicHttpBinding service that simply reuses the contract in the other service and the silverlight App uses this service. I have a console app that confirms that this service is working and set up with basichttpbinding. I have all the clientAccessPolicy stuff in place. when I run the silverlight app the difference is that it runs everything async ... as such the only message i directly get back rom wcf is server not found. • iPhone SDK: How do I create an overlay drop-down menu?

  Hi, I have a UIViewController containing its UIView which occupies the available screen (inbetween the tabbar and nav bar). I'd now like to add a simple toolbar which is situated at the top of the UIView which will contain some buttons. One of the buttons should display a drop down menu which is displayed as an overlay over the UIView. I'd quite like this menu to be a UITable as it could contain many items. The problem I'm having is I can't see the best way to go about this. I'm wondering whether there's a simple strategy. Here's an example of the type of feature I'm looking for...   I am seeing a lot of examples on how to style Selected rows in DataGrid such as this one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1223280/how-can-i-set-the-color-of-a-selected-row-in-datagrid Can i just disabled selected row styling? i don't want to have to override every single thing that selected row changes. Just don't want any visible changes. • jquery.autocomplete doesn't work in compability mode

  I've read all the results I can find on SO about this without finding anything that applies to me, so don't judge me too quickly :) I am using jquery.autocomplete downloaded from here: http://www.dyve.net/jquery/?autocomplete together with http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.3.2.js This all works well in IE8 and FF, but as soon as I activate compability mode in IE8 I keep getting: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method When looking in the call stack, This is the one where it breaks: <script type="text/javascript"> $().ready(function() { $("#friendsearch").autocomplete("/Account/FindFriends"); }); </script> and then the calling function is this: if ( jQuery.readyList ) { // Execute all of them jQuery.each( jQuery.readyList, function(){ this.call( document, jQuery ); }); // Reset the list of functions jQuery.readyList = null; } where this line throws the error: this.call( document, jQuery ); Does anybody know why this happens? As mentioned above, works super in IE8 and firefox, but not in compability mode(IE7)

• Creating sub-applications within applications in IIS/ASP.Net

  I am basically trying to do the same thing as this question, create a new application within a folder so it could be accessed as follows. * http://www.domain.com/ < Main App * http://www.domain.com/newapp < New App The problem is that newapp is reading the web.config from the Main App, which is causing errors because it doesn't have all the same dlls etc. For New App, in IIS, the starting point is set at /newapp, so I am not sure why it is reading the web.config from / at all. It is set as it's own application. I am testing this in IIS6 on XP Pro, so not sure if that makes a difference. The Main App is dotnet 1.1, and New App is 3.0.

• TinyMCE with AJAX (Update Panel) never has a value.

  I wanted to use a Rich Text Editor for a text area inside an update panel. I found this post: http://www.queness.com/post/212/10-jquery-and-non-jquery-javascript-rich-text-editors via this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1207382/need-asp-net-mvc-rich-text-editor Decided to go with TinyMCE as I used it before in non AJAX situations, and it says in that list it is AJAX compatible. Alright I do the good ol' tinyMCE.init({ //settings here }); Test it out and it disappears after doing a update panel update. I figure out from a question on here that it should be in the page_load function so it gets run even on async postbacks. Alright do that and the panel stays. However, upon trying to submit the value from my textarea, the text of it always comes back as empty because my form validator always says "You must enter a description" even when I enter text into it. This happens the first time the page loads and after async postbacks have been done to the page. Alright I find this http://www.dallasjclark.com/using-tinymce-with-ajax/ and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/699615/cant-post-twice-from-the-same-ajax-tinymce-textarea. I try to add this code into my page load function right after the tinyMCE.init. Doing this breaks all my jquery being called also in the page_load after it, and it still has the same problem. I am still pretty beginner to client side scripting stuff, so maybe I need to put the code in a different spot than page_load? Not sure the posts I linked weren't very clue on where to put that code.   It seems the java.net.NetworkInterface implementation of android does not have a byte[] getHardwareAddress() method http://developer.android.com/reference/java/net/NetworkInterface.html I've found several forums of people trying to do this with no definitive answer, I need to get a somewhat cross-device UUID, so I can't rely on phone numbers or in ANDROID_ID (which can be overwritten and which I think depends on the user having a google account) http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Settings.Secure.html#ANDROID_ID In linux you can use ifconfig or read from /proc/net/arp and you can easily get the Hardware address. Is there a file in android that I can read? There has to be a way to get this address since it's shown in the "Settings About Phone Status" of the phone.

  I have a internal website hosted on IIS. I added the following meta code and also add http-header that the page should in IE8 Browser mode and document mode. <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" > We tested it on Visual Studio and and it works very well. However, after we publish the code to another IIS server, one developer reported that the page render in "IE8 Comatiblity" Browser Mode which causes some JavaScript to fail. There are more then 4 people working on the same windows server 2003 (RDP sessions). We use the same version of IE (same IE actually). Everyone get "IE8" Browser Mode but one person gets "IE8 Compatibility" Browser Mode. What else can make a specific user's IE load the page in a mode other than IE8 mode? PS. We checked the compatibility list in the IE; it is empty.

I'm using IE8 in Vista via Parallels on a Mac.   Using a .htaccess rewrite rule, I need to add "?q=" before the path on any URL's containing the word "imagecache" Therefore, if the URL is: http://mysite.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/myimage.jpg ...then it will really try: http://mysite.com/?q=sites/default/files/imagecache/myimage.jpg But that will ONLY happen if the URL contains "imagecache." Otherwise, it does no rewriting. Also, this will only happen if /sites/default/files/imagecache/myimage.jpg isn't already an existing image file. I believe I can do that using: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f ...right? It's just the first part that I can't figure out.

• String length difference between ruby 1.8 and 1.9

  I have a website thats running on ruby 1.8.7 . I have a validation on an incoming post that checks to make sure that we allow upto max of 12000 characters. The spaces are counted as characters and tab and carriage returns are stripped off before the post is subjected to the validation. Here is the post that is subjected to validation http://pastie.org/5047582 In ruby 1.9 the string length shows up as 11909 which is correct. But when I check the length on ruby 1.8.7 is turns out to be 12044. I used codepad.org to run this ruby code which gives me http://codepad.org/OxgSuKGZ ( which outputs the length as 12044 which is wrong) but when i run this same code in the console at codeacademy.org the string length is 11909. Can anybody explain me why this is happening ??? Thanks

• Flex secret for session using Facebook API

  In this video, it mentioned not to embed the Facebook secret key inside the application, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/facebook/articles/video_facebook_quick_start.html, so I passed null to this function facebookSession = new FacebookSessionUtil(MYAPI, null, stage.loaderInfo); but it didn't work. How can I hide my secret key? In the doc it mentioned: http://facebook-actionscript-api.googlecode.com/svn/release/current/docs/com/facebook/utils/FacebookSessionUtil.html secret:String — Your application's secret key. If this parameter is passed a value of null, the constructor looks for a special session secret stored in the fb_sig_ss property of the loaderInfo object. For web sessions, even if you pass a non-null value for this parameter, the constructor will always look for a session secret and use that instead of the value that you pass for this parameter.

• How to turn off MVC.NET version 2's RequireHttps attribute?

  I see that version 2 of MVC.NET now has a RequireHttps attribute, which works great for me. However, what's a good strategy for turning the effect off? For example, I want to use Https on some pages, but regular Http on others. Should I create my own RequireHttp attribute? EDIT: I'm using my own RequireHttp attribute, and it works fine, but I'm wondering if there's some built-in functionality in MVC.NET Version 2 that I'm missing. EDIT 2: I must not have been clear. My question concerns the following: if you use RequireHttps, then any requests after that will be over Https even if the Controller or Action is not decorated with RequireHttps. Unless I'm mistaken, you need a 2nd attribute such as RequireHttp to redirect requests to Http instead of Https.

• Qt static build with static mysql plugin confusion

  I have built a Qt application which uses the MySQL library, but I am confused by the documentation on static versus shared builds. From the Qt documentation at http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/deployment-windows.html it says: To deploy plugin-based applications we should use the shared library approach. And on http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/deployment.html, it says: Static linking results in a stand-alone executable. The advantage is that you will only have a few files to deploy. The disadvantages are that the executables are large and with no flexibility and that you cannot deploy plugins. To deploy plugin-based applications, you can use the shared library approach. But on http://doc.qt.nokia.com/latest/plugins-howto.html, it seems to say the opposite, giving directions on how to use static plugins: Plugins can be linked statically against your application. If you build the static version of Qt, this is the only option for including Qt's predefined plugins. Using static plugins makes the deployment less error-prone, but has the disadvantage that no functionality from plugins can be added without a complete rebuild and redistribution of the application. ... To link statically against those plugins, you need to use the Q_IMPORT_PLUGIN() macro in your application and you need to add the required plugins to your build using QTPLUGIN. I want to build the Qt libraries statically (for easy deployment) and then use the static MySQL plugin. To do this, I did NOT use the binary distrubtion for Windows. Instead, I've started with the source qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.7.4 Is the following the correct way to do a static build so that i can use the static MySql plugin? configure -static -debug-and-release -opensource -platform win32-msvc2010 -no-qt3support -no-webkit -no-script -plugin-sql-mysql -I C:\MySQL\include -L C:\MySQL\lib This should build the Qt libraries statically AND the static plugin to be linked at run-time, correct? I would NOT need to build the Mysql Plugin from source separately, correct? If I was to subtitute "-qt-sql-mysql" for "-plugin-sql-mysql" in above, it would include the MySQL driver directly in the QT static libraries, in which case I would NOT need to use the plugin at all, correct? • Interesting issue with WCF wsHttpBinding through a Firewall

  I have a web application deployed in an internet hosting provider. This web application consumes a WCF Service deployed at an IIS server located at my company’s application server, in order to have data access to the company’s database, the network guys allowed me to expose this WCF service through a firewall for security reasons. A diagram would look like this. [Hosted page] --- (Internet) --- |Firewall <Public IP>:<Port-X >| --- [IIS with WCF Service <Comp. Network Ip>:<Port-Y>] link text I also wanted to use wsHttpBinding to take advantage of its security features, and encrypt sensible information. After trying it out I get the following error: Exception Details: System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: The message with To 'http://<IP>:<Port>/service/WCFService.svc' cannot be processed at the receiver, due to an AddressFilter mismatch at the EndpointDispatcher. Check that the sender and receiver's EndpointAddresses agree. Doing some research I found out that wsHttpBinding uses WS-Addressing standards, and reading about this standard I learned that the SOAP header is enhanced to include tags like ‘MessageID’, ‘ReplyTo’, ‘Action’ and ‘To’. So I’m guessing that, because the client application endpoint specifies the Firewall IP address and Port, and the service replies with its internal network address which is different from the Firewall’s IP, then WS-Addressing fires the above message. Which I think it’s a very good security measure, but it’s not quite useful in my scenario. Quoting the WS-Addressing standard submission (http://www.w3.org/Submission/ws-addressing/) "Due to the range of network technologies currently in wide-spread use (e.g., NAT, DHCP, firewalls), many deployments cannot assign a meaningful global URI to a given endpoint. To allow these ‘anonymous’ endpoints to initiate message exchange patterns and receive replies, WS-Addressing defines the following well-known URI for use by endpoints that cannot have a stable, resolvable URI. http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing/role/anonymous" HOW can I configure my wsHttpBinding Endpoint to address my Firewall’s IP and to ignore or bypass the address specified in the ‘To’ WS-Addressing tag in the SOAP message header? Or do I have to change something in my service endpoint configuration? Help and guidance will be much appreciated. Marko. P.S.: While I find any solution to this, I’m using basicHttpBinding with absolutely no problem of course.

• ASP.NET application/web service not working on Windows Vista/IIS 7: access right problem?

  I have a .NET 3.5 based web service running at http://localhost/serivce.svc/. Then I have an ASP.NET application running at http://localhost/myApp. In Application_Load my application reads some XML configuration from the web service. That works fine on my machine, but: On Windows Vista with IIS 7 the request to the web services fails. The web service can be accessed via the browser without any problem. I configured the app pool of my application to run as admin. I added the admin to the IIS_USRS group, but it still cannot access the web service. impersonate=true/false seems not to make a difference.
