  • How do I get data from the iTunes app store

    - by Bodie
I'm trying to scrape the entire iTunes App Store so that I can store it in a database for a project I'm working on. I'm having a hard time finding the best way to do this. I know there are ways to get specific information about price changes but I can't find anything that describes how to scrape the entire app store. Any additional info is appreciated.

  • Deploying App With Dummy/Initial Data

    - by mattmccomb
I have a Core Data based application that stores hierarchal data displayed using a series of UITableViews. To illustrate my app functionality to the user I would like to pre-populate my database/app with some dummy values. This data would be available upon installation on the user's iPhone/iPod Touch. What is the best way to achieve this?

  • Android Layout question

    - by Nils
Hello, I need to create a map with items on it (the map consists of a drawable object, which represents a room) and I thought about using buttons with background images for the items so that they are clickable. I guess the AbsoluteLayout fits here the best, but unfortunately it's deprecated. What layout would you recommend me for this kind of application ? Is there another layout which supports X/Y coordinates ?

  • SNMP: OID to use when writing custom MIBs

    - by justcatchingrye
If you are writing your own MIB for a bespoke application, is there a 'best practice' for which branch you should use. I'm thinking of something analogous to private IP addresses, that can be used within enterprises, without conflicting with Registered IP addresses I have been asked to make a suggestion, as I advised Application Developers that they should not use OIDs under .1.3.6.1.4.1.111 - This is the Oracle branch

  • PHP code to convert a MySQL query to CSV

    - by Reilly
What is the most efficient way to convert a MySQL query to CSV in PHP please? It would be best to avoid temp files as this reduces portability (dir paths and setting file-system permissions required). The CSV should also include one top line of field names. Cheers.

  • Wordpress as CMS, Without Using It As Website Platform

    - by swt
What is the best method, if there is one, of using Wordpress as a CMS for users to input data while not actually building the website on the Wordpress platform? One possible solution I've found is using a PHP class called "WPGet" (http://peter.upfold.org.uk/projects/wpget) which fetches directly from the database.

  • Block the user from changing the System Date/Time

    - by Ananth
We have a windows application (C# .net) and we'll be giving installers to client. The requirement is that once the application has been installed , user should not be able to edit the system time/date . This is to make sure that the application generated dates/reports are not manipulated. My target OS is Win-XP What is the best way to do that ? Does OS provide any facility to do that ? Thanks in Advance

  • Optimal pixel format for drawing on iPhone?

    - by Felixyz
Pretty simple question: when doing some pretty intense drawing with CoreGraphics on the iPhone, how can I specify the pixel format to get optimal performance? Is the format that I get from the context via UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext per definition the best one? I know that RGB565 is supposed to be the fastest to use in OpenGL. Does that go for CoreGraphics as well? General advice?

  • Python, Unicode, and the Windows console

    - by James Sulak
When I try to print a Unicode string in a windows console, I get a "UnicodeEncodeError: 'charmap' codec can't encode character ...." error. I assume this is because the Windows console does not accept Unicode-only characters. What's the best way around this? Is there any way I can make Python automatically print a "?" instead of failing in this situation? Edit: I'm using Python 2.5.

  • Start a new project in Rails 3.0 or 2.3?

    - by Jeff
I'm seeking opinion on this. I'm planning a big project in rails and wanted to get some opinion on whether I should start the project in rails 3.0 or start in 2.3 and convert later when 3.0 is declared stable. I'm new to rails and so after reading of some of the big changes in 3.0, i'm unsure of what would be best. thoughts?

  • Drawing bitmaps faster on Android canvas or OpenGL

    - by Ben Mc
I currently have a game written using the Android canvas. It is completely 2D, and I draw bitmaps as sprites on the canvas, and it technically works, but I have a few features that I need to add that will require drawing many more bitmaps on the screen, and there will be a lot more movement. The app needs more power. What is the best way to go from this method of drawing Bitmaps on a canvas to using OpenGL so I can draw them faster?

  • Problem determining how to order F# types due to circular references

    - by James Black
I have some types that extend a common type, and these are my models. I then have DAO types for each model type for CRUD operations. I now have a need for a function that will allow me to find an id given any model type, so I created a new type for some miscellaneous functions. The problem is that I don't know how to order these types. Currently I have models before dao, but I somehow need DAOMisc before CityDAO and CityDAO before DAOMisc, which isn't possible. The simple approach would be to put this function in each DAO, referring to just the types that can come before it, so, State comes before City as State has a foreign key relationship with City, so the miscellaneous function would be very short. But, this just strikes me as wrong, so I am not certain how to best approach this. Here is my miscellaneous type, where BaseType is a common type for all my models. type DAOMisc = member internal self.FindIdByType item = match(item:BaseType) with | :? StateType as i -> let a = (StateDAO()).Retrieve i a.Head.Id | :? CityType as i -> let a = (CityDAO()).Retrieve i a.Head.Id | _ -> -1 Here is one dao type. CommonDAO actually has the code for the CRUD operations, but that is not important here. type CityDAO() = inherit CommonDAO<CityType>("city", ["name"; "state_id"], (fun(reader) -> [ while reader.Read() do let s = new CityType() s.Id <- reader.GetInt32 0 s.Name <- reader.GetString 1 s.StateName <- reader.GetString 3 ]), list.Empty ) This is my model type: type CityType() = inherit BaseType() let mutable name = "" let mutable stateName = "" member this.Name with get() = name and set restnameval=name <- restnameval member this.StateName with get() = stateName and set stateidval=stateName <- stateidval override this.ToSqlValuesList = [this.Name;] override this.ToFKValuesList = [StateType(Name=this.StateName);] The purpose for this FindIdByType function is that I want to find the id for a foreign key relationship, so I can set the value in my model and then have the CRUD functions do the operations with all the correct information. So, City needs the id for the state name, so I would get the state name, put it into the state type, then call this function to get the id for that state, so my city insert will also include the id for the foreign key. This seems to be the best approach, in a very generic way to handle inserts, which is the current problem I am trying to solve.

  • Add foreign key constraints to existing tables in Ruby on Rails (MySQL)

    - by randombits
What's the best way to add foreign keys to my existing tables in Rails with an underlying MySQL database? clearly the solution should be done in a migration, as I want this versioned. Otherwise I'd create the constraints myself. I can't seem to find one, conducive response to they above. Again, the tables have already been created with previous migrations. I'm just going back now and adding referential integrity wherever it's applicable.
