• ASP.NET 2.0 + Firefox/Safari - UI Issues?

  I'm developing on a system that was originally developed five years ago. I don't have access to the complete source code of the system, but it is completely driven by XML and runs on ASP.NET 2.0. This was originally written for IE6, but since Microsoft has officially decided to dump it, we moved to IE7. Some javascript is added on the client side, but nothing that changes the UI has been done. (We had to integrate a credit card reader into the system) This code is accessed primarily on tablet PCs running windows, but I'd like to persuade my company to use the iPad. [The tablet somehow costs around 3k$. I think selling a 3000$ device to a client when you have the iPad for 500$ is ridiculous.] Now, my problem is if we open it in any other browser (Tested it on safari / firefox), the UI is completely messed up with elements completely out of place. Doesn't ASP.NET generate HTML that runs on any browser? My second question is if there are any credit card readers available in the market that integrate with the iPad. I don't really care about the software part as it's taken care by our company, I just need it to read the card details and post it to the server. Thanks, Teja.

• Identical files from different servers. Why might IE 8 display them differently?

  I'm working on a site that will go on my company's intranet. I developed it locally on my computer, checking it in different browsers and on colleague's computers, and when it was done I handed it off to IT. They put identical copies on a staging server, and on the production server. This is a site built only with html, javascript, and css. No server side scripting. It also uses a DWF viewer plugin from Autodesk. It is a single standalone page (not part of a CMS) that allows users to load drawings into the viewer and then click to see info from a database of space info saved in a series of js arrays (the space DB software spits out a js file with all the info listed in array literals, creating a crap ton of global variables - ugh, but I digress). When I followed their links (using IE 8) the version on the staging server looked as expected, but the layout is hosed on the version from the production server. Specifically, it seems like a div that is supposed to flow to the right of a div that is float: left is displaying below the floated div at full width, as though it was clear: left (which it is not). It also has the wrong height. I downloaded the files from each and they are identical to my local version. Frustrated, I cleared my browser's cache, restarted my computer, checked it on a colleague's computer who also has IE 8. All the same issue. Staging server good. Production server bad. Finally I uninstalled IE 8 and looked at it in IE 6. Both versions looked fine. So, to recap. Two different servers. No server side scripting. Identical files. One browser agrees they are identical, the other does not. What could cause this?

• Jquery Dialog - Is there a way to open it without registering it using .dialog?

  This is my problem. I have a page with multiple tabs. I load those tabs dynamically and one of those tabs is a message container (mail). Every time I click a folder link (Inbox, Sent Mail etc) I reload just that tab alone with appropriate content. I use Jquery dialog to pick contacts and I have to load contacts everytime. Since I reload the whole tab content every time JQuery Dialog registers (or creates) the whole div content.   I'm trying to setup a new computer to synchronize with my SVN repository that's hosted with cvsdude.com. I get this error: Here's what I did (these have worked in the past): Downloaded and installed TortoiseSVN Created a new folder C:\aspwebsite Right-clicked, chose SVN Checkout...   Hi. I have this script. This determines if there is a flash player installed in the browser, it redirects the browser to a flash website. if not, then it opens a non-flash website. • Does playing a Program from VS2005 cause a program to work any different than the .exe file?

  There is a program where I work that works fine when running the .exe file but works differently from expected when opened in VS2005 and played from there. I am therefore asking on here if anyone knows of anything that would work in the .exe file but not the debug from VS? I am not able to post the code for the buttons I'm talking about but I'll try to explain the best I can. There is a receiver hooked up to the computer. When the button is pressed on the program, it shows a message and waits for a signal to be received. After the signal is heard the first message box is supposed to close and another is supposed to open. When using the .exe file this happens just fine. However when playing from the program from VS2005 (the same one from which the .exe was made) the second message doesn't come up when it is supposed to and when I can make it come up, the first box doesn't close. There is also a timer involved if that helps. Also, is there a fundamental difference between how the two operate when executing the program? If I need to make anything more clear or give more details please let me know.

• SQL Server: Can you help me with this query?

  I want to run a diagnostic report on our MS SQL 2008 database server. I am looping through all of the databases, and then for each database, I want to look at each table. But, when I go to look at each table (with tbl_cursor), it always picks up the tables in the database 'master'. • How to make smooth transition from a WebBrowser control to an Image in Silverlight 4?

  Hi, I have the following XAML on my page: `<Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <Viewbox Stretch="Uniform"> <Image x:Name="myImage" /> </Viewbox> <WebBrowser x:Name="myBrowser" /> </Grid>` and then in the codebehind I'm switching the visibility between the image and the browser content: myBrowser.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; myImage.Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri(p)); myImage.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; and myImage.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; myBrowser.Source = new Uri(myPath + p, UriKind.Absolute); myBrowser.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; This works fine, but what the client now wants is a smooth transition between when the Image is shown and when the browser is shown. I tried several approaches but always ran into dead end. Do you have any ideas? I tried setting two states using the VSM and than displaying a white rectangle on top as an overlay, before the swap takes place, but that didn't work (I guess it's because nothing can be placed above the WebBroser???) I tried setting the Visibility of the image control and the webbrowser control using the VSM, but that didn't work either. I really don't know what else to try to solve this simple task. • My python program always brings down my internet connection after several hours running, how do I debug and fix this problem?

  I'm writing a python script checking/monitoring several server/websites status(response time and similar stuff), it's a GUI program and I use separate thread to check different server/website, and the basic structure of each thread is using an infinite while loop to request that site every random time period(15 to 30 seconds), once there's changes in website/server each thread will start a new thread to do a thorough check(requesting more pages and similar stuff). The problem is, my internet connection always got blocked/jammed/messed up after several hours running of this script, the situation is, from my script side I got urlopen error timed out each time it's requesting a page, and from my FireFox browser side I cannot open any site. But the weird thing is, the moment I close my script my Internet connection got back on immediately which means now I can surf any site through my browser, so it must be the script causing all the problem. I've checked the program carefully and even use del to delete any connection once it's used, still get the same problem. I only use urllib2, urllib, mechanize to do network requests. Anybody knows why such thing happens? How do I debug this problem? Is there a tool or something to check my network status once such situation occurs? It's really bugging me for a while... By the way I'm behind a VPN, does it have something to do with this problem? Although I don't think so because my network always get back on once the script closed, and the VPN connection never drops(as it appears) during the whole process.

• Debug website on host from virtual machine

  I have a Windows 7 machine hosting a Windows 7 virtual machine. I am developing a web application using visual studio 2010 on my host machine. I want to run the application in debug mode and access my localhost server from a browser on the virtual machine. (The purpose of this is to be able to debug an application that uses Windows Authentication using different users without having to log off and on for different users on my host machine...) I am using a bridged connection for the virtual machine. I googled how to solve this problem and most of the threads that I found said that if I was using a bridged connection, I could access the server on the host machine by just entering the IP address of my host machine into the url in the browser of the virtual machine. I have tried some different urls using the IP but none of them have worked. As an example, suppose I run my web application in visual studio on my host machine and its url is http://localhost:62789/MyPage.aspx Assume also that I ran ipconfig in CommandPrompt on my host machine and found out that the IP address for my host machine is xxx.xxx.xxx.x. What url should I enter on the virtual machine to access my web application? Thanks in advance.

• How to send data from an opened window back to its opener in WPF.

  In WPF I have one window opening a second window that allows some data selections to occur on. Once the selections have been made I then want to submit/close the second/sub window and have the data pushed back to the opening/parent window. I can push data into the sub window from the parent via public properties, but have not worked out how to get it back the other way. Can anyone help please?   Hi all, I'm trying to use JNA to talk over a USB device plugged into the computer. Using Java and a .dll that was provided to me.   I am trying to programatically perform a search on Microsoft Bing search engine. Here is my understanding: There was a Bing Search API 2.0 , which will be replaced soon (1st Aug 2012) The new API is known as Windows Azure Marketplace. You use different URL for the two. In the old API (Bing Search API 2.0), you specify a key (Application ID) in the URL, and such key will be used to authenticate the request. As long as you have the key as a parameter in the URL, you can obtain the results. In the new API (Windows Azure Marketplace), you do NOT include the key (Account Key) in the URL. Instead, you put in a query URL, then the server will ask for your credentials. When using a browser, there will be a pop-up asking for a/c name and password. Instruction was to leave the account name blank and insert your key in the password field. Okay, I have done all that and I can see a JSON-formatted results of my search on my browser page. How do I do this programmatically in PHP? I tried searching for the documentation and sample code from Microsoft MSDN library, but I was either searching in the wrong place, or there are extremely limited resources in there. Would anyone be able to tell me how do you do the "enter the key in the password field in the pop-up" part in PHP please? Thanks alot in advance.

• Avoiding duplicate objects in Java deserialization

  I have two lists (list1 and list2) containing references to some objects, where some of the list entries may point to the same object. Then, for various reasons, I am serializing these lists to two separate files. Finally, when I deserialize the lists, I would like to ensure that I am not re-creating more objects than needed. In other words, it should still be possible for some entry of List1 to point to the same object as some entry in List2. MyObject obj = new MyObject(); List<MyObject> list1 = new ArrayList<MyObject>(); List<MyObject> list2 = new ArrayList<MyObject>(); list1.add(obj); list2.add(obj); // serialize to file1.ser ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(...); oos.writeObject(list1); oos.close(); // serialize to file2.ser oos = new ObjectOutputStream(...); oos.writeObject(list2); oos.close(); I think that sections 3.4 and A.2 of the spec say that deserialization strictly results in the creation of new objects, but I'm not sure. If so, some possible solutions might involve: Implementing equals() and hashCode() and checking references manually. Creating a "container class" to hold everything and then serializing the container class. Is there an easy way to ensure that objects are not duplicated upon deserialization? Thanks.

• Showing Loading screen during REST service request in android app ?

  Currently here is what I am following, As soon as my app is launched, I have to send a request for REST service, It will take little time , so I thought of showing loading screen, In onCreate() of my Activity , first thing will be to show loading screen(progress dialog) , And I kick off the background Activity using AsyncTask , i.e. requesting for REST service and onPostexecute() I close the dialog and then I do setContentView(myxml); and update the UI . Can this approach be improved ? Problem which I faced was , Sometimes , Garbage collector may start(due to various reasons) and my app hangs at loading screen forever , because of Garbage collector , even request for REST service is not sent and because of it some wake up call comes and rest is disaster and Force close. But sometimes even ForceClose doesnot come fast , may be because of GC. so I cannot even go back and stuck in loading screen. Only thing which I can do at that point is to come back HOME. After that If I come back to my app its still loading , so definitely this approach seems to be a bad design. Whats the right approach ?

• ANDROID IF/ELSE FAILS CONTINUES TO EXECUTE JSON

  I am trying to create a Registration app with JSON to connect and post to MYSQL database. I created the following IF/ELSE statements to check for vacant input boxes, password match, and correct email characters before allowing it to be entered into the DATABASE. The code continues to execute the JSON posting even after the passwords don't match , invalid email characters are entered , and vacant text boxes are submitted. • Rails 2.3.14 setting expire_after for sessions is ignored

  I have next config in my environment.rb: config.action_controller.session_store = :cookie_store config.action_controller.session = { :expire_after => 14.days, :domain => DOMAIN, :session_key => '_session', :secret => 'some_string' } Setting session_store to active_record_store or mem_cache_store didn't help. Also i've tried just setting cookie from controller (with all founded options for expire): cookies[:test] = { :value => 'test' , :expires => 3600.to_i.from_now.utc } In both ways all sessions and cookies are deleted after closing browser window - they are only for browser session. I've tried almost all variants founded in the Internet - no luck( My config is: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, rails 2.3.14, ruby Enterprise Edition 1.8.7, Phusion Passenger version 3.0.11 and Nginx compiled by Phusion Passenger. I've an options that it's Nginx not allowing setting some headers but also didn't find any solution. Any help appreciated! Thanks UPD. i've tried to put all configs for sessions to config/initializers/session_store.rb - nothing changed. i have a feeling that it's not a rails problem. may it be phusion + nginx error? i don't even know how to check where the problem is.

I already tried diferent Primary Keys, but the problem persists.
