  • Why does obj.getBounds().height give a larger height than obj.height?

    I'm new to Flash and ActionScript, but managing quite nicely. One thing that is continuously getting in my way are the width and height properties of DisplayObject(Container)s. I'm finally starting to get my head around them and learned that the width and height of a Sprite are determined solely by their contents for example. I do not understand the following though: I've got a Sprite that I add a bunch of Buttons to. The buttons all have a height of 30 and an y of 0. As such, I'd expect the height of the containing Sprite to be 30. Surprisingly, the height is 100. The Adobe documentation of the height property of a DisplayObject states: Indicates the height of the display object, in pixels. The height is calculated based on the bounds of the content of the display object. Apparently, the 'bounds' of the object are important. So I went ahead and wrote this little test in the Sprite that contains the Buttons: for (var i:int = 0; i < numChildren; ++i) { trace("Y: " + getChildAt(i).y + " H: " + getChildAt(i).height); trace("BOUNDS H: " + getChildAt(i).getBounds(this).height); } trace("SCALEY: " + scaleY + " TOTAL HEIGHT: " + height); This code iterates through all the objects that are added to its display list and shows their y, height and getBounds().height values. Surprisingly, the output is: Y: 0 H: 30 BOUNDS H: 100 ... (5x) SCALEY: 1 TOTAL HEIGHT: 100 This shows that the bounds of the buttons are actually larger than their height (and the height that they appear to be, visually). I have no clue why this is the case however. So my questions are: Why are the bounds of my buttons larger than their height? How can I set the bounds of my buttons so that my Sprite isn't larger than I'd expect it to be based on the position and size of the objects it contains?   • Returning objects with dynamic memory

    I'm having trouble figuring out a way to return an object (declared locally within the function) which has dynamic memory attached to it. The problem is the destructor, which runs and deletes the dynamic memory when the object goes out of scope, i.e. when I return it and want to use the data in the memory that has been deleted! I'm doing this for an overloaded addition operator. I'm trying to do something like: MyObj operator+( const MyObj& x, const MyObj& y ) { MyObj z; // code to add x and y and store in dynamic memory of z return z; } My destructor is simply: MyObj::~MyObj() { delete [] ptr; } Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  • fields_for to stop pluralizing.

    I have a fields_for tag, where I specify the prefix (lets say for some good reasons), and this is supposed to represent a one-to-one relationship. I am trying to represent a relationship widget has_many thingamagigs thingamagig has_one whatchamacallit The field_for code is: fields_for "widgt[thingamagigs_attributes][][whatchamacallit_attributes]", thingamagig.whatchamacallit do |x| which generates names (wrongly): widget[thingamagigs_attributes][][whatchamacallit_attributes][][value] The better solution would be t.fields_for :whatchamacallit do |x| where t = fields_for the thingamagig... However if I do that, the following names are generated widgt[thingamagigs_attributes][whatchamacallit_attributes][] which is completely wrong as all other fields for a thingamagig is... widgt[thingamagigs_attributes][][name] So in all cases I am screwed. The original field_for using a string cannot be used with accepts_nested_attributes_for :whatchamacallit since whatchamacallit is a singular relationship and an object is expected not an array. The second fields_for will simply not work because rails cannot parse the params object correctly. Is there a way to tell the first forms_for to not add the [] after [whatchamacallit_attributes] in all field names?

    Hello. I am new to Android and mobile phones development. I want to develop an application that needs to have a total control over the "phone" of the smartphone, i.e. controlling all the communication of the GSM chip with the cellular system, accessing the SIM card identity that it sends (encrypted) to the cellular system, disabling the cellular antenna and resuming it back, and more of that kind... Can it be done with Android? Does the software (OS) have control over all of the phone components in a smartphone, or there are some parts that are done in the hardware level only? (I guess that the Android API won't enable me to do everything i want, but even theoretically is it possible if I recompile the OS after making the changes there?) Thanks!

    So i'm trying to send a String[] Array/List over an open socket connection. I currently have this code: Sending: public void sendData() { try { OutputStream socketStream = socket.getOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream objectOutput = new ObjectOutputStream(socketStream); objectOutput.writeObject(new String[] {"Test", "Test2", "Test3"}); objectOutput.close(); socketStream.close(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println(e.toString()); } } Recieving: public Object readData() { try { InputStream socketStream = socket.getInputStream(); ObjectInputStream objectInput = new ObjectInputStream(new GZIPInputStream(socketStream)); Object a = objectInput.readObject(); return a; } catch(Exception e) { return null; } } After I have recieved the String array/list on the other end I want to be able to iterate through it like I would do normally so I can get the values. My current code doesn't seem to works as it returns null as the value. is this possible?

A.IX x = ...; object.DataContext = x; object.SetBinding(SomeDependencyProperty, new Binding("Prop")); .. } So I have a hidden implementation of an interface with a property "Prop" and I need to bind to this property in code. My problem is that the binding isn't working unless I make class X public. Is there any way around this problem?

    Hello all. My issue is trying to determine a number of objects created, the objects being serialized from an XML document. The XML document should be set up for simplicity, so any developer can add an additional object and need no further modification to the code. However each of these objects need to be handled/updated seperately, and specifically, some of the objects are of different sub-classes, which need to be handled differently. Here is some pseudocode for what I am going for class A { public B myClassB; public void Update() { // for every object of whatever type in myClassB // update logic } } XML: <\data <\object1 etc... So what would be my simplest course of action, allowing other to add objects via the XML, but still ensuring the proper logic happenes for each?

  • Why is [date] + [time] non-deterministic in SQL Server 2008?

    I'm trying to do the following for my IIS logs table: ALTER TABLE [W3CLog] ADD [LogTime] AS [date] + ([time] - '1900-01-01') PERSISTED However, SQL Server 2008 tells me: Computed column 'LogTime' in table 'W3CLog' cannot be persisted because the column is non-deterministic. The table has this definition: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[W3CLog]( [Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, ... [date] [datetime] NULL, [time] [datetime] NULL, ... ) Why is that non-deterministic? I really need to index that field. The table currently has 1598170 rows, and it is a pain to query if we can't do an index seek on the full time. Since this is being UNION'd with some other log formats, we can't very easily just use the two columns separately.

    I have two classes, Tag and Hardware, defined with a simple parent-child relationship (see the full definition at the end). Now I want to filter a query on Tag using the version field in Hardware through an attribute_mapped_collection, eg: def get_tags(order_code=None, hardware_filters=None): session = Session() query = session.query(Tag) if order_code: query = query.filter(Tag.order_code == order_code) if hardware_filters: for k, v in hardware_filters.iteritems(): query = query.filter(getattr(Tag.hardware, k).version == v) return query.all() But I get: AttributeError: Neither 'InstrumentedAttribute' object nor 'Comparator' object associated with Tag.hardware has an attribute 'baseband The same thing happens if I strip it back by hard-coding the attribute, eg: query.filter(Tag.hardware.baseband.version == v) I can do it this way: query = query.filter(Tag.hardware.any(artefact=k, version=v)) But why can't I filter directly through the attribute? MyObject<datatype1> obj1; MyObject<datatype2> obj2; MyObject<datatype3> obj3; I want to store these objects in a List... I think I would do that like this: private List<MyObject<object>> _myList; I then want to create a function that takes 1 parameter, being a datatype, to see if an object using that datatype exists in my list.... sorta clueless how to go about this.     In javascript you can call a function as a function or as a constructor. For example you can do : myObject = new Number(13); myPrimitiveValue = Number(13); or simply myPrimitiveValue = 13; I understand the difference between the results. Can you explain me under which reasonable circumstances creating a number, a boolean or a string as an object is desirable? For example, ability to set new properties (this is something you can do on objects but can't really do on primitive values) is almost always a bad idea for objects containing number/boolean/string. Why would I want a numeric/boolean/string object?

  • How do you combine a Move and Rotate effect in Flex 3?

    I realize you can make one of each effect, set the same target, and hit .play();, but this produces weird results (acknowledged by Adobe, fixed in Flex 4). I'm trying to have an object move from the top of the screen to the bottom while it rotates around it's own center. When called independently, both of these effects work perfectly. When called together, the object always rotates around the top left corner. I even tried putting them both inside a <Parallel> tag with no success. Has anyone come up with a workaround?

    Hello, I'm using an helper class that I called CreateEditOrganizationService where I put all the helper methods. In my controller, I've createService as object of that class. So far, I've got 5 methods. Now, I've just defined a 6th method called Set_TypeOrganization. I'm getting the Set_TypeOrganization in the intellisense, but after I've chose it, I get the following error: *CreateEditOrganizationService does not contain a definition for Set_TypeOrganization are you missing a directive or a reference?* public List<TypeOrganization> Set_TypeOrganization(string choice) { //Definition goes here... } and in my Controller CreateEditOrganizationService createService = new CreateEditOrganizationService(); //... ViewData["TypeOrganizations"] = createService.Set_TypeOrganization(choice); Unfortunately, VS shows me the error? Yet, the method appear in the intellisense when I type a dot after the createService object. Thannks for helping

  • TDBGrid columns design time or run time?

    I am using TDBGrid for the first time. I didn't even notice the Columns property in the object inspector and everything went just fine: the grid was filled. Then I saw the Columns property and tried it. When I use the object insector to add items to the Columns property of the grid, they do not all of them show up at run time. To me, it looks like the FieldName property is important. It looks like it is correct, but there are no values in some columns. If I leave this property blank (no columns at all) it seems that the control populates it itself at run time and I do see all the columns. I could live with that. When I set column titles at run time it works, but setting column width does not.

    I have an operation that I need to design. That operation takes two objects of a certain class X, and returns two new objects of the same class (I may need the originals later). The logic that dictates the selection of this object is contained in class Y. On one hand, I don't want class Y to know details about class X implementation; on the other, I don't want class X to know details about selecting the different objects to perform this operation on. If that was all the problem, I'd just create a static method on class A. However, the methods in language I'm working on return only one object. Also, the operation needs to be robust, and calling operation two times to get C and D respectively isn't possible, as both C & D both rely on a single random number. How should I design such operation? Update: I'm using Obejctive C.

The Vector is the list of all ingredients in the Recipe while each ingredient has an array showing the name of the ingredient, the amount, and the unit for that amount. I want to save each Recipe to XML so that they can be accessed by the user. How can I store a Vector of String arrays in XML or any other sort of file so that it can later be recalled and accessed?

    After loading my RSACryptoServiceProvider rsa object i would like to create a key for my AES object. Since i dont need to store the AES key (i only need it to decrypt on my prv side) i figure i dont need to store it and i can generate it with my public key. I thought doing rsa.Encrypt(byte[] with 4 hardcoded bytes); would generate the data i need. It turns out everytime i call this function even with the same data i get different results. So theres no way for me to recreate the AES key if its different everytime. How can i generate data with RSA in a way that i can recreate anytime i need?
