• Using special characters as keywords in latex listings package

  Hi, I am using the listings package for latex. I am using the SQL language definition and am adding some new keywords that I need, using morekeywords=. I have trouble defining some special characters as keywords, for example, I need [], <, &, and - to be considered as keywords and use the keyword style. I have tried adding these verbatim or with a preceding backslash. It did not work. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Get client timezone (not GMT offset amount) in JS

  I need to determine the client timezone (e.g. CET, GMT, EST) in JS. Getting the offset is straightforward, but doesn't have all the info necessary to determine the TZ, at least not easily. I have a feeling it might be possible to use a combination of offset, whether DST is in use and in effect, etc. but I'm hoping someone else has done the work already, especially considering the weird exceptions when dealing with time. This question is similar but both the question and the answer are based on the (incorrect) assumption every browser's DateString format includes the name of the timezone - which it does not. That is an implementation detail. So, with that I am currently stuck.

• Setting up separate ctags db's for C/C++ standard libs, boost, and third party libs

  I want to set up separate ctags databases for various libraries in /usr/include/ for use with OmniCppComplete. The idea is to be able to pull in only the libraries needed for a particular project in the target language - C or C++. For example, I'd like to have one database for the standard C libraries, one for system libraries that might be used by either C or C++ programs ( sockets / networking comes to mind ) one for the standard C++ libs / STL / Boost, and then other databases for various third party libraries such as QT or glib. Then I could pull something in simply by typing set tags+= ~/.vim/somelib.tags in vim. I assume that everything related to the C++ stdlib and STL are in the /usr/include/c++ and that Boost is all in /usr/include/boost. Unfortunately it seems that the standard C libs and system libs are just kind of dumped directly into /usr/include/ with a variety of other stuff. How can I get a list of which files and directories belong to which libs? I'm on Ubuntu 8.04.

• PHP readdir() not returning files in alphabetical order

  I am reading through a directory with some pictures and such using a pretty simple implementation of readdir() like the following: if ($handle = opendir($path)) { while (false !== ($szFilename = readdir($handle))) { if ($szFilename[0] !== '.') { if (is_file($path.$szFilename)) { // do stuff } } } } The problem that I am having is that the files are not being read in alphabetical order as the docs for readdir() state: Returns the filename of the next file from the directory. The filenames are returned in the order in which they are stored by the filesystem. Another weird thing is that, on the local testing server, the same code works great. This is running on a server using the LAMP stack in both cases. I know that I can build an array and just sort it, but I was wondering if I was missing something in what I was doing. Anyone got a clue?

• In which controller do you put the CRUD for the child part of a relationship?

  I am using ASP.Net MVC but this probably applies to all MVC patterns in general. My problem, for example I have companies and in each company I have a list of contacts. When I have selected a company I can see its details and a list of the contacts for that company. When I want to add a new contact for that company, should the implementation of that action go into the company controller as an "AddContact" action or should it go into the contact controller into a "New" action and we pass the Company ID in the URL? What is the usual way of dealing with this sort of thing in ASP.Net MVC? Is there a better stategy?

  Hi, I am trying to implement something done in almost any website out there : a 'ilike' button (like Facebook) that does not require user authetication to be used for any article of my website written in Grails. I don't want to use any external solution, so I need to implement it myself (or use a grails plugin). So my question is : What does it take to implement this 'ilike' button and prevent users from cheating? For instance, do I need to store local cookies (I suppose yes)? Do I need to check the session ID and IP of the HTTP request? Any well-known implementation are welcomed. Thank you very much for your help.

  I am using nHibernate for the first time, and after alot of reading/researching, plus looking at other projects done with nHibernate, have seen a couple of implementation practices. I am looking for opinions about which would be best to use and why. Essentially the two methods are as follows: Using Data Access Objects and a DAO Factory. Example usage: INotificationListDAO nListDAO = NHDaoFactory.GetNotificationListDAO(); NotificationList list = nListDAO.GetByListID(""); Use Static methods in the Domain Object. Example usage: NotificationList list = NotificationList.GetByListID(""); NHHelper.Session.Get(id); NHHelper.Session basically calls the NHibernateSessionManager.Instace.GetSessionFrom(""). While both look similar, it is more to do with best practice. From what I understand, the first option is more so if you are developing enterprise level applications, where my requirements are more for mid-range websites.

• FastCGI C++ program and missing SCRIPT_NAME

  Hi guys, i'm studying the fastcgi developement kit because i'm writing a new scripting language and i'd like to write a fastcgi version of the interpreter to run scripts as webpages. I'm using this example from the sdk, located at /srv/http/bin/echocpp So, in my httpd.conf file, i have the following lines : FastCgiServer /srv/http/bin/echocpp -idle-timeout 120 -processes 4 ScriptAlias / /srv/http/bin/echocpp/ ... ... AddHandler fastcgi-script hy Where 'hy' is the extensions of my scripts. Then, when i try browse, for instance http://localhost/~evilsocket/prime.hy I see all the environment variables as expected from the echo-cpp.cpp programm, except for the SCRIPT_NAME that is empty. Is there something i'm missing out of this? How am i supposed to obtain the full path of the script to run it inside my fastcgi version of the interpreter? Thanks

  I suppose the naive implementation of a + operator for matrices (2D for instance) in C++ would be: class Matrix { Matrix operator+ (Matrix other) const { Matrix result; // fill result with *this.data plus other.data return result; } } so we could use it like Matrix a; Matrix b; Matrix c; c = a + b; Right? But if matrices are big this is not efficient as we are doing one not-necessary copy (return result). Therefore, If we wan't to be efficient we have to forget the clean call: c = a + b; Right? What would you suggest / prefer ? Thanks.

  Hi all, I want to trace the beginning [& ending] of functions called in Java, like the following code: public void foo() { System.out.println("begin of foo()"); ... System.out.println("e-n-d of foo()"); } But maintaining of the dump code System.out.println is something tedious and error-prone, for there may be tens of thounds of function in an class. Any good idea can ease this work? I don't want dump statements all over the file. Implementation of both or one of the beginning & ending traces is perferd. But, if impossible, recordings of that the function has been called is also helpful. I mean not care the exact beginnig and ending, just tell that the function has been called.

  Hi everyone, I want to make a C# app in Mono as it's the only programming language I'm mostly comfortable with. Anyway, ATI Drivers on Linux do not have a Fan control feature and therefore the cards to tend to heat up. For me I prefer to have a cooler card. What I want to do is run a command such as: aticonfig --pplib-cmd 'set fanspeed 0 70' In a application but I the thing is..How can I run that code so it works, I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04, and it does work in the terminal, but I want to implement it into an application. • When is it safe to do a Response.Redirect() without throwing an exception?

  I have an intermediary class extending System.Web.UI.Page for all of my pages that require authentication. The class mostly does custom authentication handling. When a user with insufficient access attempts to visit a page, I try to redirect the user back to the login page while preventing any further page events from being executed (ie. Page_load). The first solution that came to mind was the default implementation of Response.Redirect. Of course the downside to this is the possibility of ThreadAbortExceptions being thrown.   I have several strings in my site that don't belong to any app, for example {% block title %}{% trans "Login" %}{% endblock %} or a modified authentication form used to set the locale cookie class AuthenticationFormWithLocaleOption(AuthenticationForm): locale = forms.ChoiceField(choices = settings.LANGUAGES, required = False, initial = preselectedLocale, label = _("Locale/language")) Now when I execute django-admin.py makemessages --all -e .html,.template in the site directory, it extracts the strings from all Python, .html and .template files, including those in my apps. That is because I develop my apps inside that directory: Directory structure: sitename myapp1 myapp2 Is there any way to extract all strings that are not in my apps? The only solution I found is to move the app directories outside the site directory structure, but I'm using bzr-externals (similar to git submodules or svn externals) so that doesn't make sense in my case. Moving stuff that needs translation into a new app is also possible but I don't know if that is the only reasonable solution.

• How would I go about writing a Linux TTY sniffer?

  For educational purposes (not that anyone should care the motivations behind such an exercise) I'd like to write a program that can read/write to/from alternate tty/pty's. I've read papers (from the 1990's) but can't employ the implementation they use, on modern UNIXes. I was hoping that someone had researched into this in the past, or at least, read documentation pertaining to it, that they could provide. I also wonder if (considering the fact that Linux doesn't have STREAMs) if this exercise must be done via a loadable kernel module? I have many questions and probably a misunderstanding of some of the fundamental ideologies that allow such objectives to be put in place, could someone help? :)

• Anyone Know a Great Sparse One Dimensional Array Library in Python?

  I am working on an algorithm in Python that uses arrays heavily. The arrays are typically sparse and are read from and written to constantly. I am currently using relatively large native arrays and the performance is good but the memory usage is high (as expected). I would like to be able to have the array implementation not waste space for values that are not used and allow an index offset other than zero. As an example, if my numbers start at 1,000,000 I would like to be able to index my array starting at 1,000,000 and not be required to waste memory with a million unused values. Array reads and writes needs to be fast. Expanding into new territory can be a small delay but reads and writes should be O(1) if possible. Does anybody know of a library that can do it? Thanks!

• Reuse C++ Header files

  Guys, I have a Visual C++ solution with 2 projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB and both share a common header file RunAlgo.h with the class declaration. Each project in the solution has its own unique implementation for the header file. I am trying to compile a DLL out of the common header file RunAlgo.h and add reference to this DLL in the projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB. I have then included separate RunAlgo.cpp definition file in both my projects. The problem is that I am getting linker errors while compiling the new DLL project which has only the header file. So, the question is Can a header file with only class declaration be compiled into a DLL (Similar to class library containing an Interface in C#)? For the above scenario, is there a better approach to reuse the common Header file among projects? Should the above method work (re-check my code?)
