• Using Message Boxes in Windows 7 style

  After reading the MSDN article about proper user interface here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa974176.aspx I want to modify the message boxes I use in my applications to reflect those guidelines (for example, have the Main Instructions in a larger font, better named Buttons, etc...). My question is, is there an API that allows you to easily build those kind of message boxes (a la user32\MessageBox()), or do you actually have to build your own message boxes which follow the guidelines?

• Chrome not displaying Class set by jQuery or a Direct CSS property

  This might seem like a bit of a design/css question but i really need some help. This is the page http://library.permilia.com/Gavin/version2.0_beta/lead.html It works on every browsers imaginable except chrome. By it works i mean it applies a class .error that sets the borders to 1px solid #f00 which is a red border. In chrome for some reason you cannot change it no matter what! Anybody got any ideas?

A user of this class has to set some properties and then use a public method to retrieve the results. What shall I do when a user calls the method without setting all the properties? Throw exception and expect the user to catch it? Thanks

• UITableView with sectionIndexTitle bugs on rotation

  Hi everyone, I have a UITableView with a sectionIndexTitles, and when I do a rotation, some cells are displayed like if I were on the previous orientation. • Android: how to obtain AssetManager without reference to Context?

  I have a Class that needs to obtain a reference to it's application's AssetManager. This class does not extend any sort of android UI class, so it doesn't have a getContext() method, or anything similar. Is there some sort of static Context.getCurrentApplicationContext() type of method? To clarify: my class is intended to be used like a library, for other applications. It has no associated AndroidManifest.xml or control over the context which is calling it.

  I need to be able to raise different types of audio notifications to the user. I need an "ok" and an "error" type sounds, I was hoping to be able to raise a simple beep and a critical stop type sound but I can only find the Beep() command which doesn't allow for differing sounds.   Not completely a programming question, but its close enough so here goes: In Mac OS I'll put user-specific files for my app in ~/Library/Application Data/{MyApp}/ and in *nix I'll put them in ~/.{MyApp}/ - where should I put them for Windows? I'll be using Ruby's File.expand_path to get to this directory, so if there's a windows equivalent of ~ then that's fine. (Answers for Windows XP, Vista and 7 would be appreciated if they're not the same)

• Is it standard behavior for this code to throw a NullPointerException?

  I've had a big problem in some library code, which I've pinned down to a single statement: System.out.println((String) null); Ok, the code doesn't actually look like that, but it certainly calls println with a null argument. Doing this causes my whole applicaio to throw an unexpected NullPointerException. In general, should println throw this exception under that circumstance, or is this non-standard behavior due to a poor implementation of the out instance?

  Hi, Is sequential coupling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_coupling) really a bad thing in code? Although it's an anti-pattern, the only risk I see is calling methods in the wrong order but documentation of an API/class library with this anti-pattern should take care of that. What other problems are there from code which is sequential? Also, this pattern could easily be fixed by using a facade it seems. Thanks

  I need a simple floating point rounding function, thus: double round(double); round(0.1) = 0 round(-0.1) = 0 round(-0.9) = -1 I can find ceil() and floor() in the math.h - but not round(). Is it present in the standard C++ library under another name, or is it missing??
