• Background Image in JTextPane

  How do I set a background image to a JTextPane - some sort of a watermark. I tried this option - creating a child class of JTextPane and use the paint method to draw the image. But then the text is displayed "below" the image than above. Is there any "standard" or "well known" way to do this? (BTW, I tried (something silly?) making the content type "text/html", and setting the image as the background image of a <div> but it did not help.)

  hello, i'm currently learning lua. regarding pattern-matching in lua i found the following sentence in the lua documentation on lua.org: Nevertheless, pattern matching in Lua is a powerful tool and includes some features that are difficult to match with standard POSIX implementations. as i'm familiar with posix regular expressions i would like to know if there are any common samples where lua pattern matching is "better" compared to regular expression -- or did i misinterpret the sentence? and if there are any common examples: why is any of pattern-matching vs. regular expressions better suited? thanks very much, harald

• (C#) iterate over read-only private collection member

  I have a class which has two HashSet collections as private members. Other classes in my code would like to be able to iterate over those HashSets and read their contents. I don't want to write a standard getter because another class could still do something like myClass.getHashSet().Clear(); Is there any other way to expose the elements of my HashSets to iteration without exposing the reference to the HashSet itself? I'd love to be able to do this in a way that is compatible with for-each loops.

• Java Web Service - Faulty Services - ClassNotFound Exception

  My Project has 2 java files (A.java and B.java in same package). A.java uses methods in B.java. And, an external jar has been added in the project build path. In order to create a web service (bottom up) from the class, I created a new Dynamic Web Project in Eclipse with axis2 as the runtime platform, and imported A.java and B.java source files. Next, since all my methods that need to be exposed are contained in A.java, I right click on it and created web service using the standard settings. When I deploy the web service on my apache, I get "Fault Service" and a few ClassNotFound Exceptions for some of the classes in my external jar file (I have already imported it as an external jar). Does the external jar needs to be imported in another way?

• Are tile overlays possible with the iPhone's MapKit

  I already have a tile source set up for use with the Google Maps JavaScript API. I am trying to translate this for use with the iPhone MapKit. I have correctly implemented the javascript zooming levels into mapkit. Whenever - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView regionDidChangeAnimated:(BOOL)animated is called, I snap the region to the nearest zoom level based on the same center point. Is it possible to implement a solution possibly with CATiledLayer to implement a tiling solution. Does the iPhone use the standard 256x256 tiles like google maps does natively? Any direction or help on this would be greatly appreciated. I would rather not waste a couple weeks trying to implement this if it's not possible.

  The query... select distinct name from myTable returns a bunch of values that start with the following character sequences... ADL* FG* FH* LAS* TWUP* Where '*' is the remainder of the string. I want to do an order by that sorts in the following manner... ADL* LAS* TWUP* FG* FH* But then I also want to sort within each name in the standard order by fashion. So, an example, if I have the following values LAS-21A TWUP-1 FG999 FH3 ADL99999 ADL88888 ADL77777 LAS2 I want it to be sorted like this... ADL77777 ADL88888 ADL99999 LAS2 TWUP-1 FG999 FH3 I initially thought I could accomplish this vias doing an order by decode(blah) with some like trickery inside of the decode but I've been unable to accomplish it. Any insights?

• Is this the correct way of speaking to a "Content Manager" Class?

  I am creating a silverlight site. I am currently breaking out my ideas into pieces of functionality. One of the idea's I have is the concept of a content manager. This is essentially a UI control with 4 regions. Top, Bottom, Right & Left. I also have a collection of objects that are considered "Menu Items". These are controls that function as a way to navigate around, similar to links. The idea I have is to implement an IMenuItem interface. Among the standard pieces of information (Text, PageReference, etc) I was also going to hold a reference to the content manager. My idea behind this thinking is that I can pass the PageReference to a property on the ContentManager and then call a method which knows how to update the content manager accordingly. Is this the best way of implementing this or is their some sort of pattern for it?

• Rails migration to add boolean column to Postgres on Heroku

  I'm trying to execute a simple Rails migration to add a boolean column to an existing table. Here's the add_column call: add_column :users, :soliciting, :boolean, :null => false, :default => false However, after the migration runs (successfully, with no errors), I don't see the new column. If I go into the console and list the columns on the User table, for example, with this command: >> User.columns.each { |c| puts "#{c.name} : #{c.type}" } All the other columns show up, but not the one I just added with the migration. What's even more strange is that looking up a random user object yields the Postgres version of booleans (Ruby strings) >> User.find(1).soliciting => "t" However, the existing boolean columns all show up with standard Ruby boolean values of true and false. What's going on here? Is the migration actually complete? Why doesn't the column show up, yet is accessible in the model objects?

• Sparse matrices / arrays in Java

  I'm working on a project, written in Java, which requires that I build a very large 2-D sparse array. Very sparse, if that makes a difference. Anyway: the most crucial aspect for this application is efficency in terms of time (assume loads of memory, though not nearly so unlimited as to allow me to use a standard 2-D array -- the key range is in the billions in both dimensions). Out of the kajillion cells in the array, there will be several hundred thousand cells which contain an object. I need to be able to modify cell contents VERY quickly. Anyway: Does anyone know a particularly good library for this purpose? It would have to be Berkeley, LGPL or similar license (no GPL, as the product can't be entirely open-sourced). Or if there's just a very simple way to make a homebrew sparse array object, that'd be fine too. I'm considering MTJ, but haven't heard any opinions on its quality. Thanks!! -Dan

  Hi all I have this scenario I want to build two sharepoint 2007 sites. One for customers info and the other for products and customers orders. Now the problem is that in the second site I need to reference the customers info from the first site but unfortunately sharepoint doesnot provide out of the box cross-site lookup. I did some search and found custom cross-site fields and used one but when I upgraded the site to sharepoint 2010 this custom field was not compatible and the upgrade wizard said it could not be upgraded. so what is the solution for this ? is it to merge the two sites so that I can use the standard lookup feature or is there any workaround for this ? please if any body has faced such a scenario, share the solution with me ? thanks

• ASP .NET: SQL Server Money Type and .NET Currency Type

  MS SQL Server's Money Data Type seems to accept a well formatted currency value with no problem (example: $52,334.50) From my research MS SQL Sever just ignores the "$" and "," characters. ASP .NET has a parameter object that has a Type/DbType property and Currency is an available option to set as a value. However, when I set the parameter Type or DbType to currency it will not accept a value like $52,334.50. I receive an error "Input string was not in a correct format." when I try to Update/Insert. If I don't include the "$" or "," characters it seems to work fine. Also, if I don't specify the Type or DbType for the parameter it seems to work fine also. Is this just standard behavior that the parameter object with its Type set to currency will still reject "$" and "," characters in ASP .NET? Here's an example of the parameter declaration (in the .aspx page): <asp:Parameter Name="ImplementCost" DbType="Currency" />

  Hi all, I would like to implement a application which backs up all the internal datas like sms, mms, videos, audios, documents, call history stored in iPhone. But this seems to be not possible with api docs that the apple has released so far ... I have gone through the pdf of ENterprise distribution program and some of the links related to Enterprise Distribution Program, specifies about the Remote wipe and accessing of internal datas like Calendar, sms, mms ect .... But they didnt mention how to do it programmatically. Does Apple provide any special priviledges like extra api support to access the internal data in their Enterprise Distribution Program?. Is there any difference between Enterprise Distribution Program and Standard Distribution Program in the development point of view? And since in-house distribution does not require Apple approval, shall we use some other method which are not officially mentioned in apple docs, to access the internal stored data .. • How to modify JSSE / How to do custom build

  Hi I have a special requirement for one of my applications where I need the servers nounce (Handshaker.srv_random) when verifying the client certificate. Yet JSSEs X509TrustManager only passes me the certificate, no other information of the handshake. I have located the place, where checkClientTrusted is called (inside ServerHandshaker) and it would be easy to extend it to also allow some X509CustomTrustManager to be called with all required information. Yet this would require me to recompile JSSE... I also found jsse sources in openjdk. Now for my questions: What is the easiest way to compile jsse from openjdk? Can the resulting jsse.jar be used as a replacement for the (original) sun jre as a replacement for the included jsse.jar? Is there another (more standard compliant) way to archive what I am trying to do? I did not find a hook to use my own handshaker... Regards, Steffen

  As you know, IE6 has bug that can't display semi-transparent PNG file without using non-standard style like filter. In IE7, this problem is fixed. But It still has some bug about PNG file. It can't correctly display fading semi-transparent PNG file. You can clearly see it when you use show/hide function in jQuery with semi-transparent PNG file. The background of image is displayed with non-transparent black color. Do you have any idea for solve this question by using jQuery. Update Let's see my testing As you see, IE8 always incorrectly displays PNG-24 image. Moreover, IE8 still correctly display PNG-8 image when I fade(jQuery.fadeOut function) it only. • Python serialize lexical closures?

  Is there a way to serialize a lexical closure in Python using the standard library? pickle and marshal appear not to work with lexical closures. I don't really care about the details of binary vs. string serialization, etc., it just has to work. For example: def foo(bar, baz) : def closure(waldo) : return baz * waldo return closure I'd like to just be able to dump instances of closure to a file and read them back. Edit: One relatively obvious way that this could be solved is with some reflection hacks to convert lexical closures into class objects and vice-versa. One could then convert to classes, serialize, unserialize, convert back to closures. Heck, given that Python is duck typed, if you overloaded the function call operator of the class to make it look like a function, you wouldn't even really need to convert it back to a closure and the code using it wouldn't know the difference. If any Python reflection API gurus are out there, please speak up.

Today I came across a naming rule for static fields, namely prefixing with an underscore ie. private static string _myString; Is this really the standard way to name static variables? If so is it just personal preference and style, or does it have some sort of lower level impact? Eg Compilation JIT etc? Where does this style originate from? • Cfsearch in combination of documents and indexed query data?

  hi! I have an application which stores all kind of data about people. The current cfsearch functionality (in Verity) includes searching documents that are attached to these people. If i have 2 documents attached to 1 person, 1 with say ABC in it and the other with XYZ in it, my ideal searchresult for "ABC AND XYZ" would return the 1 person. But as both 'words' are indexed in different documents, the standard behaviour is not to return any result from the cfsearch, because the combination doesnt exist in any of the 2 documents. Is there any way to combine indexed documents and/or query data in a way that the search is executed in the combination of relevant docs and data? In my application that would mean that i could index all documents and data regarding people and have an intelligent 'global' search to find the right person. any pointers and help very much appreciated! (should Solr offer new possibilities in comparison to Verity, no problem!) thanks! Bart

  We're using xVal and the standard DataAnnotationsValidationRunner described here to collect validation errors from our domain objects and view models in ASP.NET MVC. I'd like to have a way to have that validation runner identify when two properties don't match through the use of custom DataAnnotations. Right now I'm forced into doing it outside of the runner, this way: if (!(model.FieldOne == model.FieldTwo)) errors.Add(new ErrorInfo("FieldTwo", "FieldOne must match FieldTwo", model.FieldTwo)); My question is: can this be done using property-level validation attributes, or am I forced into using class-level attributes (in which case, I'd have to modify the runner...and my follow up question would be how best to retrieve them in that case). • MySQL is running VERY slow

  I have two servers: a VPS and a laptop. I recently re-built both of them, and MySQL is running about 20 times slower on the laptop. Both servers used to run CentOS 5.8 and I think MySQL 5.1, and the laptop used to do great so I do not think it is the hardware. For the VPS, my provider installed CentOS 6.4, and then I installed MySQL 5.1.69 using yum with the CentOS repo. For the laptop, I installed CentOS 6.4 basic server and then installed MySQL 5.1.69 using yum with the CentOS repo. my.cnf for both servers are identical, and I have shown below. For both servers, I've also included below the output from SHOW VARIABLES; as well as output from sysbench, file system information, and cpu information. I have tried adding skip-name-resolve, but it didn't help. The matrix below shows the SHOW VARIABLES output from both servers which is different. Again, MySQL was installed the same way, so I do not know why it is different, but it is and I think this might be why the laptop is executing MySQL so slowly. Why is the laptop running MySQL slowly, and how do I fix it? • Mac OS X, MySQL Preference Pane doesn't work

  I downloaded and installed MySQL 5.1.47 for OS X 10.6 using the DMG archive: mysql-5.1.47-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I also installed MySQL.prefPane and MySQLStartupItem.pkg. MySQL.prefPane is a Preference Pane. The problem is, whenever I attempt to start/stop MySQL from the Preference Pane, System Preferences just hangs. It runs at about 50% CPU forever, eventually I have for force quit System Preferences. The same thing happens if I toggle "Automatically Start MySQL Server on Startup". Basically the MySQL Preference Pane is not functional. Note that I have no problem starting MySQL from the command line: sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe I have tried reinstalling MySQL and the Preference Pane. I'm using the standard installation location, nothing out of the ordinary. Every time the MySQL Preference Pane just hangs. I'm doing this on a Macbook Pro (Intel) running OS X 10.6.3. There are no old versions of MySQL on this machine.

• Receiving "MERGE" 200 OK error when committing using trac-post-commit-hook

  When running a commit with the trac-post-commit-hook I receive a MERGE 200 OK error, I understand that this means that the commit has succeeded on the server but the file status has not updated on my local machine. But I can't find anyway to fix this issue. Would this be a problem with my setup or something in the script. I'm using stock standard script from the trac site, I'm committing through tortoiseSVN to VisualSVN Server which is hosted on a windows 2008 server. When I run the script through a command line I receive no errors, I only receive this error through TortoiseSVN.

• What parts of .NET require administrative priviliges to be executed?

  Which parts of the framework require a user to be more than a Standard User? The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to compile a list of possible issues with our existing applications when migrating to Windows 7. Now, I can think of a few things myself: Writing to Eventlog Writing to Registry Keys outside of Current_User scope Getting an Environment variable etc... I really would like a more complete list and so far I've not come across a decent resource in which all this stuff is listed. Note that I'm not looking for ways of elevating the priviliges for the exsiting apps (which can be done by using a manifes), I'm simply idenitifying actions in code that might cause issues.
