• Downloads on Vista Home Premium start off fast but slow down to 0 Kb/s and hang

  I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer and everytime I go to download something, it starts out at about 1.5 Mb/s and stays there for about 3 seconds, then it slows down to 800 Kb/s and continues to drop until it gets down to 0 Kb/s and hangs. I've tried just about everything I can find such as uninstalling all firewalls/antivirus, doing the netsh rss,autotune, and chimney disable, and updating everything but it still continues to happen. I'd prefer not to reinstall but if I have to then I have to... EDIT: Figured it out, the router needed a firmware update

How do I force it to stop asking for the CD and go to the network? • Can't extract .tar.xz archive on 13.10 because permission denied

  I used to work with Ubuntu 13.04 and also i have installed Vlc 2.1.0 with a .tar.xz archive on that , but after release of 13.10 , i erased 13.04 and installed 13.10 . so i tried to install vlc 2.1.0 with the normal PPA (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install vlc browser-plugin-vlc ) way but it installed vlc 2.0.9 for me , so i 'm remove that and tried to install with the way i have installed it before on 13.04 (wget -c download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/2.1.0/vlc-2.1.0.tar.xz tar -xJvf download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/2.1.0/vlc-2.1.0.tar.xz cd vlc-2.1.0 sudo apt-get build-dep vlc ./configure make sudo make install) , but suddenly an error disturbed me in extracting the .tar.xz file : "Error setting owner : Operation not permitted" , but i the owner of file is me and i changed the all owner settings in file properties to read and write but it don't works ,so what can i do ? and also if it don't work , suggest me a good way to install Vlc 2.1.0 ! • Can I use a wireless-N laptop as an NAS for seamless and fast data transfer and access?

  I have a nice spare laptop (Dell 15R, one year old) that I was wondering if I could use as an NAS. The laptop has an E-Sata port, and I was wondering if I could set it up and plug in a few hard drives permanently (meaning I won't be unplugging it) to the eSata port and use the laptop as a wireless NAS to seamlessly and wirelessly store and access my files. To see more about what I'm looking for in the NAS to see if it's possible to use my other laptop for this purpose, see my other question: Is it possible to have a wireless in-house NAS with wireless data transfer rates of equivalent to SATA speeds? Alternatively, would it be better to sell the laptop and buy a dedicated NAS?

• Ubuntu Preseed set Norwegian Keyboard?

  It's been a couple of days now that I am trying to make a fully automated unattended installation. I managed to make it work with Ubuntu/Cobbler and a preseed file, but I cannot set the correct keyboard layout which is Norwegian in this case. I am doing the tests on a virtual machine and when I am going with a normal manual installation (no preseed) everything is working fine. When I am using the preseed file, I always end up with an "English (US)" keyboard no matter the many different options I have tried. I can change it manually with the "dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" command, but that's not the case. It should be handled automatically using the preseed file. I am using DEBCONF_DEBUG=5 when the grub is loading, and as I see in "/var/log/installer/syslog" file after the installation has finished, the preseeding commands are accepted. Can anyone help on this? • Why does winamp now play video very fast without sound in vidamp?

  Whenever I open a video in Winamp now, it loads in a new winamp-plugin-looking-window titled, "Vidamp", it plays very quickly (about 1 hour plays in 30 seconds) and without sound. I can't figure out how to disable this Vidamp plug-in if that's even what it is. Could this have anything to do with VLC Media Player? When I play a video in VLC, for some reason I can control the volume using Winamp in the background?!? Thanks in advance

  I am too dumb but determined to use Ubuntu that I paid a professional to install it for me (dualboot 11.10 with Win7). When I came home I got a lot of things from the software center. Skype did not have a download button so I googled it and Ubuntu help told me to do this: sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner" and then this: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype The terminal told me "that this is potentially harmful..." but I thought it was Ubuntu language meaning "are you sure?" On the next step I try removed Eclipse via apt-get remove eclipse. and install eclipse again. And here I see surprise: in new installed eclipse I see my old url for "Available Software Sites". So, I guess, that configuration files not removed!   I've got TortoiseBazaar installed on my Windows laptop, and I was trying to branch a repository hosted on my VPS to another directory on my VPS, and I got this lovely error: bzr: ERROR: Unknown branch format: 'Bazaar Branch Format 7 (needs bzr 1.6) That lead me to this mailing-list archive: http://osdir.com/ml/bazaar/2009-06/msg00692.html Then I tried following the instructions here to add the Launchpad PPA to /etc/apt/sources.list, but they forgot to mention that you need to do this: sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com D702BF6B8C6C1EFD Which I found out about here after I got this error: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY D702BF6B8C6C1EFD after modifying my /etc/apt/sources.list and running: sudo apt-get update Just thought I'd save someone else some pain. And of course, don't forget to uninstall the version of bzr that wouldn't play ball in the first place.
