    I just setup an out of the box "W2K8 R2 Web" server and installed IIS 7 out of the box. Then I installed the .NET4 framework and ran "aspnet_regiis -i" command. I created a site using .NET 4.0 Integrated app pool. I created an MVC application using the default MVC project template, without modifying I compiled the project and deploy the files using (Publish) to the virtual directory. I can pull the site up, but the styles are missing from the page and for some reason it routing to the /Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=/

    Hey, How do you set the id of an Html.Form in ASP.NET MVC 2? I tried this: <% using (Html.BeginForm("Save", "Clients", new { id = "SubmitForm" })) {%> But it doesn't work, my form still doesn't have an id property: <form action="/TothSolutions/Secure/Clients/Save/SubmitForm" method="post"> I'm guessing this worked in ASP.NET MVC 1 but not 2. The reason I need the id property set is so that I can do jQuery validation on the form: $("#myForm").validate etc... Thanks, Justin

    Hi, We're in the process of upgrading from VS2008 to VS2010 since it's now released. We are using CC.NET along with MSTest and want to use MS coverage tool instead of NCover. Interestingly, as I've seen others talking about as well, when you upgrade your project from VS2008 to VS2010 your Test Projects get converted to .NET 4. Nice move!! So WTF does one do with their CI environment in order to build this stuff (some projects in .net 3.5, some in .net 4 - these are different FRAMEWORKS!) LOL!!! It seems that I might need to have my CC.NET build two separate projects? - not sure about how to run the units tests from cruise with .net 4. Has anyone done this and have a snippet of their config they might share? And I thought this was going to be a simple thing. :( thanks! Bill44077

  • Drop Down Box and other stuff in ASP.NET with VB.NET (VS 2008)

    Hi all, I am trying to polish up a program a program that I have converted from a Windows Form in to an ASP.NET Web Application. I have several questions: 1.) I have a drop down box where users can select their variables, but users can also enter their variables manually into various text fields. What I want is for the drop down box to show a string like "Choose Variables" when ever the user enters their variables manually. I want this to happen without having to reload the page. 2.) In the Windows Form version of this application I had a RichTextBox that populated with data (line by line) after a calculation was made. I used "AppendText" in my Windows Form, but that is not available in ASP.NET, and neither is the RichTextBox. I am open to suggestions here, I tried to use just a text box but that isn't working right. 3.) In my Windows Form application I was using "KeyPress" events to prevent incorrect characters from being entered into the text fields. My code for these events looked similar to this: Private Sub TextBox_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox.KeyPress If (e.KeyChar < "0" OrElse e.KeyChar > "9") AndAlso e.KeyChar <> ControlChars.Back AndAlso e.KeyChar <> "." Then e.Handled = True End If End Sub How can I make this work again... also without reloading the page. 4.) This is not a major issue, but I would like all of the text to be selected when the cursor enters a field.   • Entity Framework 4 - Handling very large (1000+ tables) data models?

    We've got a database with over 1000+ tables and would like to consider using EF4 for our data access layer, but I'm concerned about the practical realities of using it for such a large data model. I've seen this question and read about the suggested solutions here and here. These may work, but appear to refer to the first version of the Entity Framework (and are more complex than I'd like). Does anyone know if these solutions have been improved upon in EF4? Or have other suggestions all together? Thanks.

  • .NET Framework 3.5 wont install on VISTA 32bit

    Running VISTA 32bit. I am trying to install c# Visual Express 2008 - but it requires .NET 3.5. One of the prerequisites during the install is .NET 3.5 ... it attempts to install it but fails, with no real error message. So I downloaded .NET 3.5 standalone from MS website and tried that.Again it fails with the error [10/17/08,23:17:07] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS) is not installed. [10/17/08,23:50:55] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS): [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS). MSI returned error code 34 I currently have c# Express edition 2005 installed. But everything I read says that I can have these two applications installed together. I believe that 2005 runs Framework 2.0. 2005 express edition works fine. - its just the 2008 edition im having problems installed the .NET 3.5 with .... any ideas ? thanks

    Hi, I am new to MVC, and trying something and got stuck somewhere in between. I have a user control there I have three textbox html type(ID, Lastname, firstname) and a submit buttom. I set the button like <input type="button" value="Search" onclick="location.href='<%= Url.Action("action", "controller") %>'" /> I have called this usercontrol on some view through <%= Html.Partial("ucName") %> Now on pressing that button(on user control) I need to pass the data from these textboxes to controller again to some specific action(Http Post action). By using this data I want to do some database interaction and storing the result in a dataset and pass this data set to same view again to show up in some Grid. I know the first part in conventional Asp.net can be done by raising the event through delegate but don't know how to do that in MVC.

  • I spy a Live Framework portal

    Those that have followed my blogs for a while may know that I have a slightly banal interest in Windows Live and, more specifically, the Live Services developer platform'; if that doesn’t sound interesting to you then stop reading now. My interest mainly stems from the Live Mesh technology that was announced a couple of years ago and the data synchronisation platform API that underpins it; that platform is called the Live Framework or LiveFX for short. At the Professional Developer’s Conference (PDC) 2008 Microsoft made LiveFX available to the public as a Tech Preview and I spent some time learning to use it and also built a few test apps on it too. In August 2009 an announcement came that that tech preview was getting shut down: "At the Professional Developer Conference 2008, we gave the developer community access to the technical preview of the Live Framework. The Live Framework is core to our vision of providing you with a consistent programming interface. Now we are working to integrate existing services, controls and the Live Framework into the next release of Windows Live. Your feedback continues to help us build the best possible offerings for Windows Live users, for you and for your customers. " Since then news on LiveFX has disappeared save for a throwaway session at PDC09 and I was hoping that news was going to appear at this week’s MIX conference but nothing was forthcoming. Instead though today I stumbled upon an unannounced portal for future LiveFX applications on Microsoft’s Azure portal at http://live.azure.com. Check it out: I consider this to be very good news. This Azure portal was built after the LiveFX tech preview was decommissioned so seeing Live Services existing so prominently alongside Microsoft’s other cloud efforts like Windows Azure and SQL Azure vindicates my early investment in the platform and gives me hope that we’re going to see something get released very very soon. I believe that the potential uses for this platform are extremely compelling and I’m looking forward to trying some out in the near future. I am also expecting LiveFX to have a heavy dependency on the OData protocol that I talked about yesterday in my post OData.org updated - gives clues about future sql azure enhancements so you can tell where my interest in that stems from. In case you’re wondering the projects that you see listed above (Basic List Sample, JT-proj etc…) are projects that I built on the old Tech Preview platform so clearly that stuff has not gone for good which is also good news; not just because it means I’ll have access to the code I wrote before but I also assume it means that LiveFX won’t have changed much since its tech preview incarnation. I know there are other LiveFX buffs out there and hopefully this news reaches some of them.   • Using FluentValidation with Castle Windsor and Entity Framework 4.0 (POCO) in MVC2

    This isn't a very simple question, but hopefully someone has run across it. I am trying to get the following things working together: MVC2 FluentValidation Entity Framework 4.0 (POCO) Castle Windsor I've pretty much gotten everything working. I have Castle Windsor implemented and working with the Controllers being served up by the WindsorControllerFactory that is part of MVCContrib. I also have Castle serving up the FluentValidation validators as is described by this article: http://www.jeremyskinner.co.uk/2010/02/22/using-fluentvalidation-with-an-ioc-container/ My problem comes in when I try to use Html.EditorForModel or EditorFor on a view. When I try to do that I get this error message: No component for supporting the service FluentValidation.IValidator`1[[System.Data.Entity.DynamicProxies.State_71C51A42554BA6C3CF05105DA05435AD209602C217FC4C34CA52ACEA2B06B99B, EntityFrameworkDynamicProxies-BrindleyInsurance.BusinessObjects, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null]] was found This is due to using the POCO generation on Entity Framework 4.0. At runtime, the generated classes get wrapped with a Dynamic Proxy so tracking and lazy loading can happen. Apparently, when using EditorForModel or EditorFor, it tries to ask Windsor to create a validator for the dynamic proxy type instead of the underlying real type. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this issue?
