Currently I have my own implementation which is a separate window(form) with a list-box, which works OK, but Id really like to use .net's auto-complete if it can do what I need. To be precise, is their a method called visibilitychanged() which I can write in all my user control classes, where I can set the value of these Ui components whenever tabs are changed? Please help :)

  • I had a power outage. Now MySQL's lock file won't go away. What do you suggest?

    I do freelance IT consulting for various clients, both in Toronto, Canada, and worldwide. A client recently experienced a power failure. Now they've been having various problems with a Slackware 12.0.0 machine which also acts as a DNS server. One problem is that they can't log into phpMyAdmin. I tried stopping and restarting MySQL. But even when MySQL is stopped, the lock file stays around. jasonspiro@cybertron:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop Shutting down MySQL. SUCCESS! jasonspiro@cybertron:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop ERROR! MySQL manager or server PID file could not be found! jasonspiro@cybertron:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql status ERROR! MySQL is not running, but lock exists jasonspiro@cybertron:~$ ls -l /var/lock/subsys/mysql -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2012-07-05 16:18 /var/lock/subsys/mysql Why is MySQL's lock file hanging around despite the fact that MySQL isn't running? Can I simply stop MySQL, delete the lock file, and start MySQL again? Are there any other steps that I should take next, or nothing?

  • Parallel processing slower than sequential?

    EDIT: For anyone who stumbles upon this in the future: Imagemagick uses a MP library. It's faster to use available cores if they're around, but if you have parallel jobs, it's unhelpful. Do one of the following: do your jobs serially (with Imagemagick in parallel mode) set MAGICK_THREAD_LIMIT=1 for your invocation of the imagemagick binary in question. By making Imagemagick use only one thread, it slows down by 20-30% in my test cases, but meant I could run one job per core without issues, for a significant net increase in performance. Original question: While converting some images using ImageMagick, I noticed a somewhat strange effect. Using xargs was significantly slower than a standard for loop. Since xargs limited to a single process should act like a for loop, I tested that, and found it to be about the same. Thus, we have this demonstration. Quad core (AMD Athalon X4, 2.6GHz) Working entirely on a tempfs (16g ram total; no swap) No other major loads Results: /media/ramdisk/img$ time for f in *.bmp; do echo $f ${f%bmp}png; done | xargs -n 2 -P 1 convert -auto-level real 0m3.784s user 0m2.240s sys 0m0.230s /media/ramdisk/img$ time for f in *.bmp; do echo $f ${f%bmp}png; done | xargs -n 2 -P 2 convert -auto-level real 0m9.097s user 0m28.020s sys 0m0.910s /media/ramdisk/img$ time for f in *.bmp; do echo $f ${f%bmp}png; done | xargs -n 2 -P 10 convert -auto-level real 0m9.844s user 0m33.200s sys 0m1.270s Can anyone think of a reason why running two instances of this program takes more than twice as long in real time, and more than ten times as long in processor time to complete the same task? After that initial hit, more processes do not seem to have as significant of an effect. I thought it might have to do with disk seeking, so I did that test entirely in ram. Could it have something to do with how Convert works, and having more than one copy at once means it cannot use processor cache as efficiently or something? EDIT: When done with 1000x 769KB files, performance is as expected.   • LAMP Stack Version Help -- Is there a website or version tracker source to help suggest the right versions of each part of a platform stack?

    Taken singly, it's easy to research versions and compatibility. Version information is readily available on each single part of a platform stack, such as MySQL. You can find out the latest version, stable version, and sometimes even the percentage of people adopting it by version (personally, I like seeing numbers on adoption rates). However, when trying to find the best possible mix of versions, I have a harder time. For example, "if you're using MySQL 5.5, you'll need PHP version XX or higher." It gets even more difficult to mitigate when you throw higher level platforms into the mix such as Drupal, Joomla, etc. I do consider "wizard" like installers to be beneficial, such as the Bitnami installers. However, I always wonder if those solutions cater more to the least common denominator -- be all to many -- and as such, I think I'd be better to install things on my own. Such solutions do seem kind of slow to adopt new versions, slower than necessary, I suspect. Is there a website or tool that consolidates versioning data in order to help a webmaster choose which versions to deploy or which upgrades to install, in consideration of all the other parts of the stack?

  • Facebook android app keeps crashing even though there are no errors in my code. Why?

    If you import the facebook SDK library, the code works (ignore the deprecated methods for now lol) and there are no errors or warnings. However, when I run my facebook app on my Android 2.2 or 4.2 emulator, the app crashes either upon opening or after the log on screen. Why? Is it because I'm not implementing Async Task? If so, how does that work?     I'm working on creating an Excel file from a large set of data by using the Open XML SDK. I've finally managed to get a functional Columns node, which specifies all of the columns which will actually be used in the file. There is a "BestFit" property that can be set to true, but this apparently does not do anything. Is there a way to automatically set these columns to "best fit", so that when someone opens this file, they're already sized to the correct amount? Or am I forced to calculate how wide each column should be in advance, and set this in the code?

  • Is this possible? Overflow-y:visible with overflow-x:scroll/auto

    We have a problem in our team which we cannot solve :/ We made our own Grid control. When you click on the icon next to column name, the pop-up div (call it divFilter) appears and you can set filtering there. There can be dynamically generated div for each column so we can have f.e 5 divFilters in 5 different places. It works, but the only problem is that when there is for example 1-2 records on the Grid, the pop-up div will be displayed under horizontal scroll of div. We've tried with z-index but it looks like that won't work. We can set overflow:visible but we also need that horizontal scroll(our grids have up to 50 columns). We thought that we can solve it buy setting overflow-y visible and overflow-x:scroll but according to our tests and that page: http://www.brunildo.org/test/Overflowxy2.html it isn't possible(for IE7,IE8). I've also found this similar question CSS overflow-y:visible, overflow-x:scroll ,but our pop-up div must be position:absolute, because we need to position them under columns. Any ideas or workaround to it? Is it even possible to set it only with CSS without using Javascript(for dynamically changing gridview hight etc.). Thanks!!

My order model: class Order(models.Model): ordered_by = models.ForeignKey(User, limit_choices_to = {'groups__name': "Managers", 'is_active': 1}) in my admin ANY user can enter an order, but ordered_by must be someone in the group "managers" (this is the behavior I want). Now, if the logged in user happens to be a manager I want it to automatically fill in the field with that logged in user.   • Auto switching databases from a rails app gracefully from the ApplicationController?

    I've seen this post a few times, but haven't really found the answer to this specific question. I'd like to run a rails application that based on the detected request.host (imagine I have two subdomains points to the same rails app and server ip address: myapp1.domain.com and myapp2.domain.com). I'm trying to have myapp1 use the default "production" database, and myapp2 requests always use the alternative remote database. Here is an example of what I tried to do in Application controller that did not work: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper :all before_filter :use_alternate_db private def use_alternate_db if request.host == 'myapp1.domain.com' regular_db elsif request.host == 'myapp2.domain.com' alternate_db end end def regular_db ActiveRecord::Base.establish_connection :production end def alternate_db ActiveRecord::Base.establish_connection( :adapter => 'mysql', :host => '...', :username => '...', :password => '...', :database => 'alternatedb' ) end end The problem is when it switches databases using this method, all connections (including valid sessions across the different subdomains get interrupted...). All examples online have people controlling database connectivity at the model level, but this would involve adding code all over my application. Is there some way to globally switch database connections on a per-request basis in the manner I'm suggesting above WITHOUT having to inject code all over my application? The added complexity here is I'm using Heroku as a hosting provider, so I have no control at the apache / rails application server level. I have looked at solutions like dbcharmer and magicmodels, but none seem to show examples of doing it in the manner that I'm trying to. Thanks for any help!

    It looks as though in 2003 or so NCSARequestLog would pick up the system time zone using TimeZone.getDefault().getID(), but in more recent versions it seems as though it's hard-coded to GMT, unless you override it in jetty.xml or programmatically. If true, this kind of annoying, since it means if you don't want GMT logging you have to edit jetty.xml for every installation (not to mention twice a year for daylight saving time). Is there a workaround that will let Jetty pick the time zone up from the system?
