  • Mocking View with RhinoMocks

    - by blu
    We are using MVP (Supervising Controller) for ASP.NET WebForms with 3.5 SP1. What is the preferred way to check the value of a view property that only has the a set operation with RhinoMocks? Here is what we have so far: var service = MockRepository.GenerateStub<IFooService>(); // stub some data for the method used in OnLoad in the presenter var view = MockRepository.GenerateMock<IFooView>(); var presenter = new FooPresenter(view, service); view.Raise(v => v.Load += null, this, EventArgs.Empty); Assert.IsTrue(view.Bars.Count == 10); // there is no get on Bars Should we use Expects or another way, any input would be great. Thanks Update based on Darin Dimitrov's reply. var bars = new List<Bar>() { new Bar() { BarId = 1 } }; var fooService = MockRepository.GenerateStub<IFooService>(); // this is called in OnLoad in the Presenter fooService.Stub(x => x.GetBars()).Return(bars); var view = MockRepository.GenerateMock<IFooView>(); var presenter = new FooPresenter(view, fooService); view.Raise(v => v.Load += null, this, EventArgs.Empty); view.AssertWasCalled(x => x.Bars = bars); // this does not pass This doesn't work. Should I be testing it this way or is there a better way?

  • abstract test case using python unittest

    - by gruszczy
    Is it possible to create an abstract TestCase, that will have some test_* methods, but this TestCase won't be called and those methods will only be used in subclasses? I think I am going to have one abstract TestCase in my test suite and it will be subclassed for a few different implementation of a single interface. This is why all test methods are the some, only one, internal method changes. How can I do it in elegant way?

  • Robotium Uniting Testing on an application having multiple processes

    - by warenix
    I have written an application running activities in multiple processes. I tried Robotium by creating a new test project set target package to my application. When I executed it, the test stopped with the following error message: Error in testDisplayBlackBox: java.lang.RuntimeException: Intent in process com.abc.def resolved to different process com.abc.def:mail: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.abc.def/com.abc.def.email.activity.Welcome } at android.app.Instrumentation.startActivitySync(Instrumentation.java:377) at android.test.InstrumentationTestCase.launchActivityWithIntent(InstrumentationTestCase.java:119) at android.test.InstrumentationTestCase.launchActivity(InstrumentationTestCase.java:97) at android.test.ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2.getActivity(ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2.java:104) at com.abc.def.test.TestApk.setUp(TestApk.java:31) at android.test.AndroidTestRunner.runTest(AndroidTestRunner.java:190) at android.test.AndroidTestRunner.runTest(AndroidTestRunner.java:175) at android.test.InstrumentationTestRunner.onStart(InstrumentationTestRunner.java:555) at android.app.Instrumentation$InstrumentationThread.run(Instrumentation.java:1584) Test results for InstrumentationTestRunner=.E Time: 0.027 FAILURES!!! • Testing the context in asp.net mvc

    - by user252160
    I got pretty experienced with testing controllers, my question here is though, aren't we supposed to test the data context as well, and how ? I mean, there are a lot of relationships and constraints coming from the DB that simply testing controllers does not cover. On the other hand, testing against the DB is not considered a good practice - what then ? Simply testing without db.SubmitChanges() or what ?

  • Mock Repository vs. Real Repository w/Mocked Data

    - by n8wrl
    I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. I am implmenting my repositories and then testing them with mocked data. All is well. Now I want to test my domain objects so I point them at mock repositories. But I'm finding that I have to re-implement logic from the 'real' repositories into the mocks, or, create 'helper classes' that encapsulate the logic and interact with the repositories (real or mock), and then I have to test those too. So what am I missing - why implement and test mock repositories when I could use the real ones with mocked data? EDIT: To clarify, by 'mocked data' I do not hit the actual database. I have a 'DB mock layer' I can insert under the real repositories that returns known-data.

  • Testing JavaMail Related Modules

    - by Hamza Yerlikaya
    Part of my application depends on JavaMail, moving arranging messages etc. Is it possible to test this module without firing a IMAP server to run the tests on? I am always stuck when it comes to testing stuff that depends on external servers or modules.

  • Increasing coverage with try-except-finally and a context-manager

    - by Daan Timmer
    This is the flow that I have in my program 277: try: 278: with open(r"c:\afile.txt", "w") as aFile: ...: pass # write data 329: except IOError as ex: ...: print ex 332: finally: 333: if os.path.exists(r"c:\afile.txt"): 334: shutil.copy(r"c:\afile.txt", r"c:\dest.txt") I've got all paths covered except for from line 278 to line 333 I got a normal happy-flow. I stubbed __builtin__.open to raise IOError when the open is called with said file name But how do I go from 278 to 333. Is this even possible? Additional information: - using coverage.py 3.4 (only listing 3.5, we can't currently upgrade to 3.5)

  • Including uncovered files in Devel::Cover reports

    - by Markus
    I have a project setup like this: bin/fizzbuzz-game.pl lib/FizzBuzz.pm test/TestFizzBuzz.pm test/TestFizzBuzz.t When I run coverage on this, using perl -MDevel::Cover=-db,/tmp/cover_db test/*.t ... I get the following output: ----------------------------------- ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ File stmt bran cond sub time total ----------------------------------- ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ lib/FizzBuzz.pm 100.0 100.0 n/a 100.0 1.4 100.0 test/TestFizzBuzz.pm 100.0 n/a n/a 100.0 97.9 100.0 test/TestFizzBuzz.t 100.0 n/a n/a 100.0 0.7 100.0 Total 100.0 100.0 n/a 100.0 100.0 100.0 ----------------------------------- ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ That is: the totally-uncovered file bin/fizzbuzz-game.pl is not included in the results. How do I fix this?

  • nhibernate error recovery

    - by Berryl
    I downloaded Rhino Security today and started going through some of the tests. Several that run perfectly in isolation start getting errors after one that purposely raises an exception runs though. Here is that test: [Test] public void EntitesGroup_CanCreate() { var group = _authorizationRepository.CreateEntitiesGroup("Accounts"); _session.Flush(); _session.Evict(group); var fromDb = _session.Get<EntitiesGroup>(group.Id); Assert.NotNull(fromDb); Assert.That(fromDb.Name, Is.EqualTo(group.Name)); } And here are the tests and error messages that fail: [Test] public void User_CanSave() { var ayende = new User {Name = "ayende"}; _session.Save(ayende); _session.Flush(); _session.Evict(ayende); var fromDb = _session.Get<User>(ayende.Id); Assert.That(fromDb, Is.Not.Null); Assert.That(ayende.Name, Is.EqualTo(fromDb.Name)); } ----> System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteException : Abort due to constraint violation column Name is not unique [Test] public void UsersGroup_CanCreate() { var group = _authorizationRepository.CreateUsersGroup("Admininstrators"); _session.Flush(); _session.Evict(group); var fromDb = _session.Get<UsersGroup>(group.Id); Assert.NotNull(fromDb); Assert.That(fromDb.Name, Is.EqualTo(group.Name)); } failed: NHibernate.AssertionFailure : null id in Rhino.Security.Tests.User entry (don't flush the Session after an exception occurs) Does anyone see how I can reset the state of the in memory SQLite db after the first test? I changed the code to use nunit instead of xunit so maybe that is part of the problem here as well. Cheers, Berryl

  • How test that ASP.NET MVC route redirects to other site?

    - by Matt Lacey
    Due to a prinitng error in some promotional material I have a site that is receiving a lot of requests which should be for one site arriving at another. i.e. The valid sites are http://site1.com/abc & http://site2.com/def but people are being told to go to http://site1.com/def. I have control over site1 but not site2. site1 contains logic for checking that the first part of the route is valid in an actionfilter, like this: public override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext) { base.OnActionExecuting(filterContext); if ((!filterContext.ActionParameters.ContainsKey("id")) || (!manager.WhiteLabelExists(filterContext.ActionParameters["id"].ToString()))) { if (filterContext.ActionParameters["id"].ToString().ToLowerInvariant().Equals("def")) { filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Redirect("http://site2.com/def", true); } filterContext.Result = new ViewResult { ViewName = "NoWhiteLabel" }; filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Clear(); } } I'm not sure how to test the redirection to the other site though. I already have tests for redirecting to "NoWhiteLabel" using the MvcContrib Test Helpers, but these aren't able to handle (as far as I can see) this situation. How do I test the redirection to antoher site?

  • Getting a "No default module defined for this application" exception while running controller unit t

    - by Doron
    I have an application with the default directory structure, for an application without custom modules (see structure figure at the end). I have written a ControllerTestCase.php file as instructed in many tutorials, and I've created the appropriate bootstrap file as well (once again, see figures at the end). I've written some model tests which run just fine, but when I started writing the index controller test file, with only one test in it, with only one line in it ("$this-dispatch('/');"), I'm getting the following exception when running phpunit (but navigating with the browser to the same location - all is good and working): 1) IndexControllerTest::test_indexAction_noParams Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application Why is this ? What have I done wrong ? Appendixes: Directory structure: -proj/ -application/ -controllers/ -IndexController.php -ErrorController.php -config/ -layouts/ -models/ -views/ -helpers/ -scripts/ -error/ -error.phtml -index/ -index.phtml -Bootstrap.php -library/ -tests/ -application/ -controllers/ -IndexControllerTest.php -models/ -bootstrap.php -ControllerTestCase.php -library/ -phpunit.xml -public/ -index.php (Basically I have some more files in the models directory, but that's not relevant to this question.) application.ini file: [production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 0 phpSettings.display_errors = 0 includePaths.library = APPLICATION_PATH "/../library" bootstrap.path = APPLICATION_PATH "/Bootstrap.php" bootstrap.class = "Bootstrap" appnamespace = "My" resources.frontController.controllerDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/controllers" resources.frontController.params.displayExceptions = 0 resources.layout.layoutPath = APPLICATION_PATH "/layouts/scripts/" resources.view[] = phpSettings.date.timezone = "America/Los_Angeles" [staging : production] [testing : production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 1 phpSettings.display_errors = 1 [development : production] phpSettings.display_startup_errors = 1 phpSettings.display_errors = 1 resources.frontController.params.displayExceptions = 1 tests/application/bootstrap.php file <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); // Define path to application directory defined('APPLICATION_PATH') || define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) .   • Automate Testing on future only items business rules

    - by Titan
    I currently have a business object with a validation business rule, which is it can only be created for the future, tomorrow onwards, and I cannot create new items for today. I have a process, which runs the non-future business objects through some steps.. Because I have to set things up today, and test tomorrow, and when it fails, I can only create a new object tomorrow and test the following day. Are there any easy ways to automate this process in any testing frameworks? I think our testers are using the visual studio 2010 test manager. How do you guys manage situations like this? Cheers

  • Rhapsody TestConductor Experiences

    - by vaiomike
    I was wondering whether anybody out there is actively using Rhapsody TestConductor? Or has tried it for a while, but then decided to turn it down for a particular reason? If so, what are your experiences, in which field do you apply it, what are the shortcomings, or why did you turn it down? At the moment we're considering TestConductor as our tool of choice for testing as it's already integrated into Rhapsody, and would like to find out how applicable it is to our project (btw, we're using Rhapsody 7.4 in C). P.S: Recommendations on good books about Model Based Testing are also appreciated.

  • What is the best testing pattern for checking that parameters are being used properly?

    - by Joseph
    I'm using Rhino Mocks to try to verify that when I call a certain method, that the method in turn will properly group items and then call another method. Something like this: //Arrange var bucketsOfFun = new BucketGame(); var balls = new List<IBall> { new Ball { Color = Color.Red }, new Ball { Color = Color.Blue }, new Ball { Color = Color.Yellow }, new Ball { Color = Color.Orange }, new Ball { Color = Color.Orange } }; //Act bucketsOfFun.HaveFunWithBucketsAndBalls(balls); //Assert ??? Here is where the trouble begins for me. My method is doing something like this: public void HaveFunWithBucketsAndBalls(IList<IBall> balls) { //group all the balls together according to color var blueBalls = GetBlueBalls(balls); var redBalls = GetRedBalls(balls); // you get the idea HaveFunWithABucketOfBalls(blueBalls); HaveFunWithABucketOfBalls(redBalls); // etc etc with all the different colors } public void HaveFunWithABucketOfBalls(IList<IBall> colorSpecificBalls) { //doing some stuff here that i don't care about //for the test i'm writing right now } What I want to assert is that each time I call HaveFunWithABucketOfBalls that I'm calling it with a group of 1 red ball, then 1 blue ball, then 1 yellow ball, then 2 orange balls. If I can assert that behavior then I can verify that the method is doing what I want it to do, which is grouping the balls properly. Any ideas of what the best testing pattern for this would be?

  • Django doctests in views.py

    - by Brian M. Hunt
    The Django documentation on tests states: For a given Django application, the test runner looks for doctests in two places: The models.py file. You can define module-level doctests and/or a doctest for individual models. It's common practice to put application-level doctests in the module docstring and model-level doctests in the model docstrings. A file called tests.py in the application directory -- i.e., the directory that holds models.py. This file is a hook for any and all doctests you want to write that aren't necessarily related to models. Out of curiosity I'd like to know why Django's testrunner is limited to the doctests in models.py, but more practically I'd like to know how one could expand the testrunner's doctests to include (for example) views.py and other modules when running manage.py test. I'd be grateful for any input. Thank you. Brian

  • How can I specifiy JUnit test dependencies?

    - by Egon Willighagen
    Our toolkit has over 15000 JUnit tests, and many tests are known to fail if some other test fails. For example, if the method X.foo() uses functionality from Y.foo() and YTest.testFoo() fails, then XTest.testFoo() will fail too. Obviously, XTest.testFoo() can also fail because of problems specific to X.foo(). While this is fine and I still want both tests run, it would be nice if one could annotate a test dependency with XTest.testFoo() pointing to YTest.testFoo(). This way, one could immediately see what functionality used by X.foo() is also failing, and what not. Is there such annotation available in JUnit or elsewhere? Something like: public YTests { @Test @DependsOn(method=org.example.tests.YTest#testFoo) public void testFoo() { // Assert.something(); } }

  • How to simulate a file read error in the CRT

    - by Mark0978
    Using VS2008, we would like to simulate a file that has a size of X, but that has a read failure at X-Y bytes, so that we get an error indication. Anyone have an idea of how to do this on windows? Looks like there is a solution for linux, but I can't really come up with a way to do this on windows. We have multiple developers, multiple machines, and cppunit testing framework, so I want a software only design. I'm trying to simulate the actual CRT failing, so I can test the code that is dealing with the failure.

  • Get name of currently executing test in JUnit 4

    - by Dave Ray
    In JUnit 3, I could get the name of the currently running test like this: public class MyTest extends TestCase { public void testSomething() { System.out.println("Current test is " + getName()); ... } } which would print "Current test is testSomething". Is there any out-of-the-box or simple way to do this in JUnit 4? Background: Obviously, I don't want to just print the name of the test. I want to load test-specific data that is stored in a resource with the same name as the test. You know, convention over configuration and all that. Thanks!

  • Returning a complex data type from arguments with Rhino Mocks

    - by Joseph
    I'm trying to set up a stub with Rhino Mocks which returns a value based on what the parameter of the argument that is passed in. Example: //Arrange var car = new Car(); var provider= MockRepository.GenerateStub<IDataProvider>(); provider.Stub( x => x.GetWheelsWithSize(Arg<int>.Is.Anything)) .Return(new List<IWheel> { new Wheel { Size = ?, Make = Make.Michelin }, new Wheel { Size = ?, Make = Make.Firestone } }); car.Provider = provider; //Act car.ReplaceTires(); //Assert that the right tire size was used when replacing the tires The problem is that I want Size to be whatever was passed into the method, because I'm actually asserting later that the wheels are the right size. This is not to prove that the data provider works obviously since I stubbed it, but rather to prove that the correct size was passed in. How can I do this?
