• Wifi problems with Ubuntu 13.10

  I should probably say straight off that I am brand new to Ubuntu. I installed 13.10 alongside Windows 7 a couple of days ago and I've managed to clear up all the little problems, apart from with the wifi. My internet is fine using an ethernet cable. I can connect to the wifi, and it tells me that the signal is good, but for the vast majority of the time I can't load anything, and system monitor tells me that I am sending and receiving nothing. The problem is somewhere in Ubuntu. It works fine on Windows 7, my Android phone and all of my flatmates laptops. I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but the fixes I've seen either don't work or I don't understand them enough to carry them out. Help? • How to bridge Debian guest VM to VPN via Cisco AnyConnect Client running on Windows Vista host

  I am running Cisco Anyconnect VPN Client version 2.5.3054 on a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (version 6.0.6002) Service Pack 2. I am running the VMware Player version 4.0.2 build-591240. The host operating system running under VMware Player is Debian 6.0.2.1 i386. The laptop is connected to a wireless connection, and I can browse the web from Windows Vista using Firefox just fine. I am able to boot into the Debian VM and open up a browser and access websites on the WAN from within the VM just fine. I can ping real Linux hosts on my LAN via: ping <lan_system>.local where <lan_system> is the hostname returned from uname -a on that system on my LAN. From a DOS CMD shell, I am able to ping hosts that exist on the remote network served by the Cisco AnyConnect Client's VPN network (and without the .local suffix applied as above): ping <remote_system> However, from within the Debian VM, I expect to be able to also ping those same remote hosts (<remote_system>) that are tunnelled over the VPN set up by Cisco AnyConnect Client. Let's say that I can ping a <remote_system> called flubber from a DOS CMD prompt just fine.   I'm currently trying to figure out why a European chain retailer is delaying a dv7 [remaining code number is not same with american]; it is listed in their site for several days and while ordered on Monday they still don't have it in their central storage. In an earlier call I was advised that since Intel announces the processor now it may start dispatching from the 6th. Is that true? Is HP obligated not to dispatch it before the 6th? (normally/legally or as a 'deal between gentlemen'). Does anyone know if HP dispatches normally dv7s now? Did they intentionally not dispatch them to retailers before the CES?

• How to configure linux routing/filtering to send packets out one interface, over a bridge and into another interface on the same box

  I'm trying to test a ethernet bridging device. I have multiple ethernet ports on a linux box. I would like to send packets out one interface, say eth0 with IP 192.168.1.1, to another interface, say eth1 with IP 192.168.1.2, on the same subnet. I realize that normally you don't configure two interfaces on the same subnet, and if you do the kernel routes directly to each interface, rather than over the wire. How can I override this behavior, so that traffic to 192.168.1.2 goes out the 192.168.1.1 interface, and visa-versa? Thanks in advance!

• lm-sensors - always returns 32 degrees (celsius) for temperature

  On my VIA EPIA motherboard (using VIA VT8231 ISA bridge), I get strange output for the lm-sensors temperature reading. It always returns 32 degrees (celsius). I have previously had correct output for temperature (my munin graphs show temperatures typically in the range of 50 to 60 degrees. I've tried uninstalling (and purging) the lm-sensors package, have re-run sensors-detect a number of times and rebooted but nothing seems to change the output. I am running Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10). • Linux Mint 14 severe overheating

  I've tried switching to Mint (it was Mint 12) about 6 months ago, but failed to do it due to enormous overheating which made it virtually impossible to run any applications more complex than Gedit. Time had passed, and now I'm back again with Mint 14, but feeling way more determined. • Very Urgent :How to start a new session if a user click on the new tab in IE or mozilla on websphere

  Hi, I have one "user search" portlet on the home page of one application running on websphere portal server.Which display the matching user records as per the search criteria filled in the search form.I have requirement to have a "back to search input" link on the results page which onclick should show the filled form on the input jsp. The issue which i am facing is if i open the application in two diff tab of same IE browser and start giving some search criteria and submit and same time search for some other input from other IE tab (in the same browser)and then go back to previous tab and click on "back to search input" link then instead of showing me the first input it will show me the imput which i entered in the next IE tab. I am setting and getting the bean(form bean) through portlet session.but in the two diff tab of same IE it will be the sae user session (and may be the same portlet session..) Please tell me solution for this. The one thing to be notice here is i can access this "user search" application even without doing login also.so it must be taking the default portlet session in this case. what wil happen once i login and then search,will it going to overwrite the portlet session and http session or howz is that?

• My linux server takes more than an hour to boot. Suggestions?

  I am building a CentOS 5.4 system that boots off a compact flash card using a card reader that emulates an IDE drive. It literally takes about an hour to boot. The ultra-slow part occurs when Grub is loading the kernel. Once that's done, the rest of the boot process only takes about a minute to get to a login prompt. Does anyone have any suggestions? I suspect that it may have to do with UDMA. Everything IDE-related in my BIOS seems to checkout. The read performance hdparm is telling me 1.77 MB/s. Ouch! • Is this possible?

  Hello, I'm exploring some technologies and JSP with JSF 2.0 and Primefaces seems really cool. I'm new to all of these, but I'm a fast learner. I wondering if I can create the web app I want withh JSP/JSF/Primefaces or should I be looking to different technologies? If I should, which ones do you recommend? Here's a basic description of the app: Users log in with their username and password (maybe I can somehow incorporate google OPENID)? With a really nice UI, they will be presented a large list of questions specific to a certain category, for example, JSP. When they click on any of these questions, a little input opens up below it to allow the user to put in a link. If the link they enter has the same question on that webpage the URL points to, they will be awarded one point. This question then disappears and gets added to a different page that has a list of all correctly linked questions. On the right side of the screen, there will be a leaderboard with the usernames of the people with the top ten points. Is this possible with JSP/JSF/Primefaces, or should I be looking elsewhere for a different web technology? The idea is relatively simple - to be able to compile links to external websites for specific questions. I know I can build the UI easily with Primefaces. What I'm not sure is if JSP/JSF gives the ability to parse HTML at a certain URL to see if it contains words. I can do this with python easily by using urllib. Any help would be appreciated!!! What would be more helpful than a "Yes" or "No" answer would be links to where I can see sample code of external HTML parsing. Your input is truly appreciated! Thanks!

• Can't connect to Wired Network after installing 12.04

  I have installed 12.04 into a used HP Compaq DC 7100 CMT. Plugged in LAN cable into the computer and it says network disconnected. from what I understand on the things I've read, it's not getting the address right, maybe it's just a guess (hardware address 00:16:35:78:47:bb). I know the LAN cable is working I can get on the net with the old computer. (Old computer is using device MAC address; Auto eth0 00:11:11:E6:4F:FE). I have put this address into the newer HP and it shows last used (minutes ago) but no Internet sever not found. I tried the hardware address it says never. I feel and think this should be easy to fix. But I just don't know.
