    Today I got a brand new Microsoft Surface. With the touch keyboard this really feels like a small notebook, my only problem is: How do I sync my SkyDrive files to the device? There is SkyDrive app installed, but it can't sync, I can only access the files one by one. And the usual desktop sync program can't be installed since the system is not x86 but ARM instead. So how do I sync SkyDrive to this device??

Then, she asked: - Libre office is the default, right? - Right. - So, if someone gives me a document, by default it will open on Libre Office. Can you make it open on Microsoft Office by default instead? So, even if I get it working via Wine, can I do what she requested or is it an impossible task?

    Thanks to all the nice comments from people who attended my presentation at DDD9, and extra thanks to Jon Skeet, Mark Rendle and Mike Hadlow for coming on stage for the last ten minutes to help debate whether the Async CTP is the correct way to go to enhance C# 5.0. The presentation is available at Prezi.com http://prezi.com/gysz5nohltye, which I can recommend as a refreshing change to the more standard PowerPoint slidedecks. I've also uploaded all the code samples into a single ZIP file. You will need to install the Async CTP to be able to run them, and I would remind everyone that the current Async CTP is not compatible with either ASP.NET MVC 3 RTM or Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 so you may need to use a test system of virtual machine to play with it!     I want to be able to find and replace eat with Eat in Microsoft Word 2007. However, I don’t want to replace every occurrence of eat such as those that can be found inside other words such as great and meat. I have tried doing this using the regular Find and Replace tool, but I get words with capital letters in the middle. Is there a way I can just replace eat with Eat if it only exists on its own?

  • Microsoft Dev Days &ndash; Johannesburg 2010

    So I am half way through dev days in Johannesburg. It has been quite an interesting day… Maybe it is me, but this year it hasn’t been as OMG as at previous conferences. A few things that stood out though… 1) This is the first time I have had to queue in a line to use the gents toilets before – yes, a true sign that we are at a typically male dominated industry event in this country – the men’s toilets were jam packed – the ladies if there were any there didn’t have a problem. 2) Bart De Smet presentation still rocks – I am a fan of Bart’s and once again his presentation was great. Something that I am going to look into in more depth which I think is a new feature in .Net is called Code Contracts. 3) I have got to get into Silverlight more… I have known this for a long time and have dabbled in it for a while, but Silverlight in my opinion will become the main platform for “hosting” applications. So… 3 things so far, hopefully I get some OMG’s from the rest of the day…

    The system works and its called Microsoft Connect , who would of thought it :) Following on from my previous blog post MicroSoft – Follow best practices, on the connect item , the followup stated that changes had been made in 2008.  I genuinely thought that a change would take an age to trickle through to the customer. But after firing up 2008R2 RTM and examining the SqlAgent traffic with profiler , where before i would see non-parameterized sql, I now see RPC calls.    Excellent , i get my cache back.

    The first step in this process is to open Word 2013. Once there, you will have the different templates available. You will select Blog Post.  Once the template for Blog Post opens, you will have a dialog popup with the option to Register a Blog Account. And click on Register Now.  The next part of the dialog will prompt you to provide the New Blog Account details, starting with the type of Blog you have (SharePoint, WordPress, TypePad and others are listed). In our case for GeeksWithBlogs, we will select Other.  Now come the juicy details! Under the New Account dialog, you will have the API set to MetaWebLog.Then provide the Blog Post URL, this needs to be http://geekswithblogs.net/<your-account>/services/metablogapi.aspx (remember to change the <your-account> part with your info).Then, enter your User Name and Password, click OK and you should be set (you will receive a dialog letting you know information will be transferred).  Hope it works for you!
