  • can /usr/src be a sym link?

    I want to store all source code of programs I have installed in /usr/src. However, due to size of the drive I made a sym link /usr/src that points to ~/src. That was nice. Unfortunately, that caused virtualbox-dkms to fail to build the virtualbox kernel module because of a symlink within the linux-headers-*-common. 'script' points to ./../lib/linux-kbuild-3.1/scripts what is fine in /usr/src directory but wrong in ~/src. Can I bypass this problem or the only solution is to store sources within the directory /usr/src?

  • Opening up a link in a new tab in Firefox doesn't show address

    Sometimes for some reason, connection to a new link/address takes a long time to establish. In Firefox 11.0, the address bar will keep showing "about:blank". I take this as normal, and let me know if it isn't. If the connection is stopped for some reason, I will not be able to find out the address that I was trying to connect to. I wonder how to find out that address, both before and after the connection is stopped at "about:blank"? Thanks and regards!

  • Why my VPN doesn't work anymore?

    I have openvpn server running on debian lenny. There is only one client - and it is running Windows 7 64-bit. This has worked for few months without any problems. And now, let's say for the last 7 days, it doesn't work at all. I connect successfully from client to the server, but I can't access anything through VPN. I have set it up so that all internet traffic is routed through VPN, and now when I connect with the client, the client can't do anything on the net (open any webpage, ping google, anything ...). Can you help me to figure out what's wrong ? I don't know where to start. I've also tried to connect to another openvpn server (I've installed and configured openvpn on another server, and when I try to connect to it result is the same). So I think there's something wrong with client ...     I'm trying to create a link that will hide or show a part of my page. The link should be reusable and display one of two images, depending on state. Adding the two subcomponents on every page where I use the link is kind of clunky so I wanted to create a component that behaves like a link while automatically adding its content.     I've been receiving a large number of emails recently requesting I clean from link spam from my forum. Initially the emails were very polite and professional, and I was happy to remove the links. Recently the email have gotten very abrasive, here is a particularly rude example: From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Hi, This is the second time we are reaching out to you regarding your link to our site hxxp://www.company-two.com from hxxp://www.my-forum.com/some-topic-id. We really do need to remove this link. We have to report to Google any link we were unable to remove, and I wouldn't want to have to include your site in the list. Could you please remove our link from this page and any other page on your site? Thank You, Name Changed Behind the superficial pleasantries I feel there is some very real maliciousness. Note the email address, DMCA Violations, I don't see how the DMCA is involved here, except as a word which tends to strike fear in many people. Also relating to the email address, it doesn't match the company being linked to at all. How am I to trust they are truely operating on behalf of company-two when they don't even use one of it's email addresses. My email is hidden by privacypost. While a service with legitimate uses, I feel it's highly unprofessional for communications between to companies. The claim "This is the second time..." Every email I've received has started like this, but a check of my spam filters has never revealed a 1st mail. Initially I gave them the benefit of the doubt, by now though it's clear this is a cheap ploy to start me off on the defensive. And finally worst of all- the threats of reporting me to Google if I don't do everything they ask. I sent a polite reply asking for more information. I have no idea if the email address was even valid but I never received any response. Much later I got this followup mail From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Hi, This is the final time we are reaching out to you regarding your link to our site hxxp://www.company-two.com from hxxp://www.my-forum.com/some-topic-id. Thank You, Name Changed This time the from address was more personal, though still not obviously connected to the spammed company. Lets be honest, I don't for one second believe that the companies were the victim of a 3rd party spammer as they claim. The links in questions were generated well over a year ago, and I firmly believe the companies were directly responsible for the spam links in question, a type of spam that has plagued my forum. Now they have the audacity to demand I spend my time cleaning up their mess, using threats to ensure they get their way. Have recent changes in Googles algorithms meant all the cash they spent spamming the web has now turned into a liability? If so I can see why these companies are all of a sudden running scared. Frankly, cleaning up my forum is a good things, but the threats they are using sickens me. So my question here is specifically about the threats: Are they vaild, and would such reports to Google destroy my page rankings? Is there a way I can report this abusive behaviour to Google?

  • autoconf libtool library linker path incorrect (need drive-letter) for MinGW ld.exe in Cygwin

    I use autoconf and when the target is mingw I was using the -mno-cygwin flag. This has been removed so I'm trying to using the mingw tool chain. The problem is the linker isn't finding my libraries /bin/sh ../../../libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link mingw32-g++ -g -Wall -pedantic -DNOMINMAX -D_REENTRANT -DWIN32 -I /usr/local/include/w32api -L/usr/local/lib/w32api -o testRandom.exe testRandom.o -L../../../lib/Random -lRandom libtool: link: mingw32-g++ -g -Wall -pedantic -DNOMINMAX -D_REENTRANT -DWIN32 -I /usr/local/include/w32api -o .libs/testRandom.exe testRandom.o -L/usr/local/lib/w32api -L/home/Tam/src/3DS_Games/lib/Random -lRandom D:\cygwin\opt\MinGW\bin\..\lib\gcc\mingw32\3.4.5\..\..\..\..\mingw32\bin\ld.exe: cannot find -lRandom To link this from the command line using the mingw linker the -L path needs the drive letter i.e mingw32-ld testRandom.o -LD:/home/Tam/src/3DS_Games/lib/Random -lRandom works. The -L path is generated from the makefile.am's which have LDADD = -L$(top_builddir)/lib/Random -lRandom However I can't find how to set top_builddir to a relative path or to start it with the drive letter (my autoconf skills are weak). As a tempoary "solution" I have removed the use of libtool. I could hack a $(DRIVE_LETTER) infront of every -L option, but I'd like to find something better.

  • D-LINK 2450U DSL router: Port forwarding forwading to the modem itself, not the specified IP

    I found a similar question but it has no satisfactory answers. I have a D-LINK 2540U DSL router. It has a basic port forwarding(under DNS - Virtual Servers) configuration in the administration panel where you specify: external port range, protocol, internal port range, server IP address and it is supposed to forward that port to that IP address. When I first set it up for a Real VNC connection it worked fine, just as I expected. Then I added a DynDNS configuration entry in the router's 'Dynamic DNS' section and added an additional SSH (22) forwarding rule. The SSH forwarding also worked fine (now with the dynamic hostname, but I suppose it doesn't make any difference as far as SSH is concerned). Then I removed the SSH rule and after that the VNC forwarding stopped working with the VNC client failing to connect (I have tried to connect with telnet and it also failed to connect, so it wasn't a VNC problem). After adding a rule for port 80 it turned out it would forward on port 80 though not to the specified server IP but to the modem itself. At least it is what it looks like, because it gives me the administration panel when I connect to my external IP (both using a browser and plain telnet in which case I can see that it is mini_hhtpd sitting on the port, which is obviously the modem's administration panel). Have anybody encountered a similar problem with port forwarding? I have tried to do a reset through the administration panel and to restore a backup of the settings made before I started playing with port forwarding, but it didn't help. Should I do a 'hard' reset with the button on the modem? Is it any different from the administration panel's reset (Restore default)?

  • HP Procurve Issue Passing Multiple VLANs over a link

    Just to start off with I am a Cisco guy that got placed into an HP project. Basic topology overview from outside in: ASA 5505 with two Ethernet connections to a 2910-24 port switch. This switch is then (Cisco Trunking) to a 2626 switch passing vlan (1 untagged and 100 tagged)between them. I created SVI's on each of the switches for both VLAN's for testing purposes. I can not get vlan 100 to pass across this link. I also have trunks configured to AP's off of the switch and can not ping the vlan 100 BVI on the AP's but can reach the vlan 1 BVI. Port 25 on Access layer (2626) connects (trunks) with port A1 of 2610. STP is not running at all on any switch (this is not my network I can't change this nor did I design this) Distribution Sw: MP1-0# show run ip default-gateway 10.100.100.100 vlan 1 name "DATA" untagged 1-22,24-A1,B1 ip address 10.100.100.6 255.255.255.0 no untagged 23 exit vlan 100 name "GUEST" untagged 23 tagged 24-A1 ip address 10.100.102.6 255.255.255.0 exit Access Sw: ip default-gateway 10.100.100.100 vlan 1 name "DEFAULT_VLAN" untagged 1-26 ip address 10.100.100.5 255.255.255.0 exit vlan 100 name "GUEST" ip address 10.100.102.5 255.255.255.0 tagged 15,25 exitt From the ASA I can ping the vlan 100 address of the 2610 but not the 2626 (10.100.102.6)[Not passing the "trunk"] If I plug into an access port vlan 100 of the 2626 I can ping the SVI for vlan 100 as intended. I can not ping across the "trunk" over vlan 100 but I can across vlan 1. There may be something obvious I'm missing but please review my configuration and thank you for the assistance.

  • Symbolic directory link shared in domain

    We have a file server that is 2008R2 STD, it is a member server in a 2008 AD. I need to relocate some of the files and directories and would like to do it behind the scenes more or less without impacting the users. (Reason for this is that some of the files, due to recent software changes, HAVE to be located locally on one of the workstations, but they can be accessed by other applications remotely.) So symbolic links seem the panacea here, I moved a directory to another network share in the same domain (Windows 7 professional), created a symlink to it in the location it used to be in, named it the same thing, and to the local user it seems almost transparent. I.E. When logged into the desktop of the file server, I can go to the directory, open the link, it leaps to the other share as if it were local, exactly what would be expected. Then I tried it from another client computer (Windows 7 professional as well), went through the normal provisioning of R2R and L2R with fsutil... No joy. What I am getting is an access denied "Logon failure: Unknown username or bad password." using the same account that I log on locally to the file server with (Which happens to be the domain admin) So I cannot believe it is telling the truth, or... I assume it is not passing the credentials I am connecting to the first share all the way through the symlink. The end result is I want users on the domain to browser to share A, inside share A is a mixture of directories/files that reside there, and symlinks to directories/files on the second machine over the network in the same domain. Possible? Or am I misunderstanding how the symlink should work?

  • New XPC: No video, no ethernet link, but drive spins

    I bought a Shuttle XPC SH67H3 with integrated video. I installed: An Intel i5 2450P 16GB DDR3 RAM A SATA hard drive from my old linux server that still is bootable I have both power connectors plugged into the motherboard. I realize that the Intel i5-2450P doesn't have video capabilities; however, the drive spins like it's doing something useful. It seems like I should get an ethernet link light when I fire this up. I plan to run this headless anyway, so it would be really nice if I could figure out how to run this without a video card at all. I know the IP address and login info for the linux install on the disk. I plugged in speakers, but get no bios beeps when I power it up. Shuttle's bios manual has nothing in there that indicates I should have problems in this configuration. My questions: Is there a reason that the missing video card would block usage of the ethernet port? Are there settings on the motherboard / bios I can change to get this working?

  • File download speed issue over a dedicated fibre link

    My ISP has installed a fibre based dedicated internet connection at the place where I work. In the beginning the connection terminated at one of the ISP's core routers. It resulted in a strange issue. Eventhough the assigned speed was 5mbps, when tests were done by downloading large files over http and ftp from multiple locations, the speed never went above 2mbps. But bittorrent downloads reached 5mbps. Even file download from the ISP servers were fine. So, at the ISP our link was attached directly to their edge router. After this file downloads from high bandwidth servers, like Google and MS, reached the 5 mbps limit. Sometimes the speed would fall down below 2 mbps and suddenly it will go up to the 5 mbps limit ( it keeps on happening during any single file download). But other downloads like ubuntu apt repositories still struggle to go above 2 mbps. The engineers at the ISP have not been able to sort out the issue. After they moved us to their edge router instead of giving us 8 public ip's, they just gave 4 ip's. When we enquired about it, they told us that giving more ip's would result in arp overload at their edge router. But somehow I was able to convince them to give us the 8 ip's which we wanted. But the file download issue has remained. What might be the reason for files from different location getting downloaded with different speeds, that too with heavy fluctuation in speeds? I have downloaded files from same url's from a connection belonging to another smaller ISP, and the speeds were fine and reached full 5 mbps limit.

  • How do I export Outlook 2003 distribution lists to Gmail?

    I have several distribution lists in Outlook 2003 that I need to move to Gmail. While transferring contacts in the main folder is fairly easy—all one does is export to CSV and import—it's not as easy with the distribution lists. I can't (don't know how to) copy the contacts from the lists to the main contact folder so they can be "normal", and the "save as" options don't include a CSV. There are several of these to do, containing maybe ~100-200 contacts altogether, so I'd like something that's not very tedious.

  • D-LINK DIR-615 router keeps giving my wireless devices bad ip addresses

    I have a D-LINK DIR-615 router, and wired devices have no problem getting an IP, however; wireless devices end up with a 169.254.. address (subsequently, they cannot access the internet through the router). I have removed all wired connections from the router, so there is no other dhcp server running. I've also gone back to the store, and replaced it with another, thinking that maybe it was defective. According to the router, it gave 192.168.0.101 to the wireless device. According to the wireless device it got 169.254.67.71. I've tried both a laptop and an iPod Touch, both exhibit the same behaviour. Has anyone seen this type of behaviour, or have any ideas of stuff to try?   • D-Link wireless router losing outbound data

    I have a Linux box running the Apache web server behind a D-Link wireless router (nothing fancy, just standard kit that comes with Virgin Media broadband). My issue is that when requesting web pages (from within the network or via the web), the back end of the page seems to be being dropped. For example, I tried to display a text-only file, and all I could get was the first 40-70% of the file (it changed slightly with each refresh). The apache access logs show that only part of the data was being sent (~6000 bytes instead of the 12000+ bytes of the file). Removing my router from the equation fixes the issue and I can download any files no matter the size with no problems. My theory is that the uploaded packets are either being dropped or held up by the config of the router. Is there anything I can do to alleviate the problem? (Perhaps a way of reconfiguring the router to upload packets harder/better/faster/stronger or an option in apache that provides a workaround) As a last resort I will get a second NIC for my Linux box and turn it into a router, but that would mean the box will be on 24/7... not the most ideal of circumstances.   • Increasing link speed on OpenVPN (bandwidth)

    I have bought a tunnel service by using OpenVPN. For a year I've had 10 Mbps max upload/download speed but now I've bought an additional 20 Mbps making the available total bandwidth 30 Mbps for me. On their homepage there are some controls available for me, for example to restart the tunnel. I've done that. It also says that the speed has indeed been upgraded to 30 Mbps on their page. I also got an email that said they have upgraded the speed. However after I reboot my machine, and OpenVPN has started up and is running as usual, when I look at the Windows Task Manager (opens when pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) in the "Networking" tab I still have a link speed of only 10 Mbps. Two adapters are listed: Local Area Connection 4 (10 Mbps) and Local Area Connection 5 (100 Mbps). LAC5 is my "real" adapter, I have a 100 Mbps Internet connection if I don't use a tunnel. LAC3 is the virtual adapter used by OpenVPN. The problem is that it is still showing 10 Mbps even though I have upgraded to 30 Mbps. How can I fix this?

  • Utility of List<T>.Sort() versus List<T>.OrderBy() for a member of a custom container class

    I've found myself running back through some old 3.5 framework legacy code, and found some points where there are a whole bunch of lists and dictionaries that must be updated in a synchronized fashion. I've determined that I can make this process infinitely easier to both utilize and understand by converging these into custom container classes of new custom classes. There are some points, however, where I came to concerns with organizing the contents of these new container classes by a specific inner property. For example, sorting by the ID number property of one class. As the container classes are primarily based around a generic List object, my first instinct was to write the inner classes with IComparable, and write the CompareTo method that compares the properties. This way, I can just call items.Sort() when I want to invoke the sorting. However, I've been thinking instead about using items = items.OrderBy(Func) instead. This way it is more flexible if I need to sort by any other property. Readability is better as well, since the property used for sorting will be listed in-line with the sort call rather than having to look up the IComparable code. The overall implementation feels cleaner as a result. I don't care for premature or micro optimization, but I like consistency. I find it best to stick with one kind of implementation for as many cases as it is appropriate, and use different implementations where it is necessary. Is it worth it to convert my code to use the LINQ OrderBy instead of using List.Sort? Is it a better practice to stick with the IComparable implementation for these custom containers? Are there any significant mechanical advantages offered by either path that I should be weighing the decision on? Or is their end-functionality equivalent to the point that it just becomes coder's preference?

    Hello folks. I've been getting lots of answers from stackoverflow now that I'm in Django just be searching. Now I hope my question will also create some value for everybody. In choosing Django, I was hoping there was some similar mechanism to the way you can do partials in ROR. This was going to help me in two ways. One was in generating repeating indexed forms or form elements, and also in rendering only a piece of the page on the round trip. I've done a little bit of that by using taconite with a simple URL click but now I'm trying to get more advanced. This will focus on the form issue which boils down to how to iterate over a secondary object. If I have a list of photo instances, each of which has a couple of parameters, let's say a size and a quantity. I want to generate form elements for each photo instance separately. But then I have two lists I want to iterate on at the same time. Context: photos : Photo.objects.all() and forms = {} for photo in photos: forms[photo.id] = PhotoForm() In other words we've got a list of photo objects and a dict of forms based on the photo.id. Here's an abstraction of the template: {% for photo in photos %} {% include "photoview.html" %} {% comment %} So here I want to use the photo.id as an index to get the correct form. So that each photo has its own form. I would want to have a different action and each form field would be unique. Is that possible? How can I iterate on that?   • Removing empty space with jQuery after deleting Selectable item

    I have two ordered lists and user can move items between them. I am using jQuery UI's Selectable for both of them. Problem is that when I move item from the middle of the list it leaves an empty space behind. How can I make list shrink according to the how many items is actually in the list?   • CSS: Horizontal UL: Getting it centered

    I'm trying to make a horizontal menu/list. It has a mix of independent buttons and buttons that are wrapped in their own individual forms. With much hacking I got all of the buttons, in forms and not in forms to align horizontally. I haven't been able to get the whole thing to center on the page though.   • Fmylife javascript copy-paste into link

    Fmylife.com has a nifty feature that when you copy the text from a post, it actually copies a LINK (html) so that when you paste it into your email/facebook/instant messenger/twitter/whatever it automatically will link to the post, giving them more traffic and more page views and more ad revenue, etc. I looked into their javascript files but can't seem to find how they do it. How would one go about copying this behavior?
