  • A little confusion about AJAX and inserting into DOM..

    I have this working great, but I'd like a deeper understanding of what is actually going on behind the scenes. I am using Jquery's Ajax method to pull 5 blog posts (returning only the title and first photo). A PHP script grabs the blog posts' title and first photo and sticks it in an array and sends it back to my browser as JSON. Upon receiving the JSON object, Jquery grabs the first member of the JSON object and displays it's title and photo. In a gallery I made, using buttons – the user can iterate the 1-5 posts. So the actual AJAX call happens right away, and only once. I am basically using this kind of setup: $('my_div').html(json_obj[i]) and each click does a i++. So jquery is plucking these blog posts from my computers memory, my web browsers cache, or some kind of cache in the Javascript engine? One of the things it's returning is a pretty gnarly animated gif. I just wonder if it constantly running in the background (but not visible), stealing processing cycles...etc. Or Javascript just inserting (say a flash movie) into the DOM, but before hand does nothing but take up a little memory (no processing). Anyway, I'm just curious. If someone is a guru on this, I'd love to hear your take. THanks!!

    I am creating an installer for my program using WiX (Windows Installer XML). I have used the following code to begin using the built-in WixUI Dialog Sets: <Product ...> <UIRef Id="WixUI_FeatureTree" /> </Product> This, however, creates a dialog set with horizontal lines that are just a little bit too short on every dialog as shown here: I understand that I could create my own set of dialogs to use instead by using software such as SharpSetup and WixEdit but I like the dialogs that WiX creates and only want to make a very small change to them. Is my best option to download the WiX source code and try to modify it? Is there a more simple solution? Perhaps I should contact the developers of WiX to list it as a bug? Maybe they like it that way though. I however think it looks out of place and would like to change it. I am using the latest weekly release of WiX 3.5.

  • I've been hired on as a entry-level game developer at a company and have little/no experience in API programming, what should I expect?

    So, I've been hired on as an entry level game developer with little/no experience working with any API other than Win32. This will be an overall learning experience for me as a person and I have gone over this multiple times with the boss and he has no problem with my inexperience. He says that if I'm not worth it now, I will be later. This gives me confidence, but I still feel that I should know a lot more before tackling this position. I would be stupid to pass it up. This is one of my favorite places to come for advice and help and have tried to just accept this, but it just keeps bothering that I can't go in knowing how to at least do the basics. I want to give the company its money's worth. Ya know? My questions are: What should I expect from the other programmers in this project (In terms of patience with me and working together, and being taught)? Is this normal? Any other advice on this sort of thing would be wonderful. I just want to feel comfortable with it.

I've written some utilities that interact with the tables within the model, but I'd like to have the code dynamically discover the tables. Is there a way I can do this ?     hi , i have three tables say city,state and road 1) city - city_id(PK),name 2) state- Stt_id(PK),name 3) Road- Edge_id(PK), Admin_id(FK) where Admin_id refers to city_id and Stt_id both. This is done because the tables are too huge. say city_id contains 1,2,3 and Stt_id contains 4,5,6 now if i am inserting 1,2,3,4,5,6 in admin_id it is throuing an error .. what is the solution of my problem, regards sanjay

  • A few problems with Delphi involving Mail Merge, SQL + Databases.

    My first problem is with mail merge. I have created a a Data File and a table, yet I am not able to fill my table with information from my Data File. The << just seems to be inserted after wherever the cursor is on the page, which is not where the table is. All that is entered into the actual table is a '59'. Therefore I think I either need to to change the code or be able to move the cursor. This only happens on one unit and it happens when I add a column with any name anywhere in the table. I know that is vague but I can't seem to narrow down the problem any further than that. We are currently waiting to hear back on CIsco from this, but has anyone run into this before? I stumbled upon this when looking into Unicast flooding, one of the hosts that is a destination MAC of flooding has a MAC entry that appears in session 3, but nowhere else. Also, I checked an all sessions show the same aging time.

    I often use Excel with pivot tables based on .cub files for OLAP-type analysis. This is great except when you want to move the xls and you realise internally it's got a non-relative reference to the location of the .cub file. How can we cope with this - ie make it convenient to move around xls files that depend on .cub files? The best answer I could come up with is writing a macro that updates the pivot tables' reference to the .cub file location....so I'll pop that in an answer.
