  • Build a RAID-5 USB Array or NAS?

    I'm looking to build a RAID-5 or RAID-6 hard disk array to be used as a centralized backup location for my home network. I have a lot of 4-8GB DVD ISO files which I intend to serve over the network to my TV using DLNA or something similar. I need decent write times, fast read times, and preferably a way to connect this array to my network router over USB. I'll probably be using ext3/4 on it (I'd use btrfs if my router supported it :-[). Is there a way to build a RAID array that is accessible over USB? I'm kind of new to this and most guides assume you're running a RAID array inside your machine. I need at least 5TB of space, and I need redundancy, so I prefer RAID-6. How can I go about accomplishing this?

  • Cannot activate Windows 8 build 9200

    I'm running an MSDN build 9200 of Windows 8 N (Europe), and thought it was the RTM - I don't go for beta OSes, generally speaking. Anyway, this gold code version runs a watermark, which makes me suspicious. I can't activate it. It just maintains the message: Windows can't activate at the moment. Try activating Windows later. If this issue persists, contact your system administrator or technical support department for assistance. So I phoned myself and the guy at the other end was useless, kept talking over me. Should I be able to activate this build or did I download the wrong version? Luke

  • Build of expect v5.43 fails with Tcl v8.5.8

    Hi, I'm trying to build "expect" from source v5.43, using Tcl built from source v8.5.8 on Redhat Linux. Tcl built fine, but my attempt to build expect fails. I run configure, then make, which gives me the error: `TCL_REG_BOSONLY' undeclared when compiling exp_inter.c. I did some digging around, and found the TCL_REG_BOSONLY value defined in Tcl file tclInt.h, but there is no #include for that in the exp_inter.c file. My question is, can "expect" be built from source with Tcl version 8.5.8, or does it require an earlier version? Version 5.43 is the latest for "expect" that I can find, and the current Tcl version is 8.5.8, but something doesn't seem compatible between the two. Any help appreciated.

I want to have full control of the box, so I'm planning to build it with some spare parts and Ubuntu Server. The services/software that will run are (remember, is for personal and testing use only): SAMBA/CIFS SSH Server Apache 2 MySQL 5 Mercurial Repo PHP 5.3 Ruby on Rails OwnCloud Dovecot Webmin Postfix PureFTPd ClamAV The Hardware: Intel Dual Core E2180 2.0 GHz MSI P35 Neo Kinkston 1GB DDR2, 667 MSI Nvidia 7300le PCIe x16 256mb RAM HDD SATA WD Green 2TB x2 (RAID-1 with MDADM RAID Controller) 16 GB USB Pendrive (For server system installation) My idea is to build this system, using the pendrive for the Ubuntu Server software, and packages, and the RAID-1 for gross data storage. error at build time, and a day of google searching has turned up other instances of this error caused by different triggers, and solutions for those propblems didn't work for me. I also found a single report on the Oracle forums that seemed to be a carbon copy of this issue, but there were no replies. The application is written in Weblogic Workshop 10, runs on Weblogic Server 10.3, and uses Beehive / NetUI. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though. The build scripts were automatically generated by Weblogic Workshop, with some tweaks and fixes made to other aspects of the files by myself to fix other compatability issues. I am using Java 1.6.0_23 from Sun, and Ant 1.8.1 Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • MSbuild task fails because "Any CPU" solution is built out of order

    I have two solutions to build in Teambuild, one is the application itself, the other one is the WiX installer. I want to build the application using "Any CPU" build configuration and the installer using "x86". I've listed the "Any CPU" solution first in my project file, but Teambuild always builds the "x86" solution first. I'm setting BuildSolutionsInParallel = false, but it still builds the solutions in the reverse listed order. If I change the first solution to "Mixed Platform", it works fine.     I have built a Qt application which uses the MySQL library, but I am confused by the documentation on static versus shared builds. From the Qt documentation at http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/deployment-windows.html it says: To deploy plugin-based applications we should use the shared library approach. And on http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/deployment.html, it says: Static linking results in a stand-alone executable. The advantage is that you will only have a few files to deploy. The disadvantages are that the executables are large and with no flexibility and that you cannot deploy plugins. To deploy plugin-based applications, you can use the shared library approach. But on http://doc.qt.nokia.com/latest/plugins-howto.html, it seems to say the opposite, giving directions on how to use static plugins: Plugins can be linked statically against your application. If you build the static version of Qt, this is the only option for including Qt's predefined plugins. Using static plugins makes the deployment less error-prone, but has the disadvantage that no functionality from plugins can be added without a complete rebuild and redistribution of the application. ... To link statically against those plugins, you need to use the Q_IMPORT_PLUGIN() macro in your application and you need to add the required plugins to your build using QTPLUGIN. I want to build the Qt libraries statically (for easy deployment) and then use the static MySQL plugin. To do this, I did NOT use the binary distrubtion for Windows. Instead, I've started with the source qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.7.4 Is the following the correct way to do a static build so that i can use the static MySql plugin? configure -static -debug-and-release -opensource -platform win32-msvc2010 -no-qt3support -no-webkit -no-script -plugin-sql-mysql -I C:\MySQL\include -L C:\MySQL\lib This should build the Qt libraries statically AND the static plugin to be linked at run-time, correct? I would NOT need to build the Mysql Plugin from source separately, correct? If I was to subtitute "-qt-sql-mysql" for "-plugin-sql-mysql" in above, it would include the MySQL driver directly in the QT static libraries, in which case I would NOT need to use the plugin at all, correct?     I just want to build this on my development machine -- the binary install from Python.org is still 32 bits and installing extensions (MySQLdb, for example) is driving me nuts with trying to figure out the proper flags for each and every extension. Clarification: I did NOT replace the system Python, I just installed the Python.org binary into its normal place at /Library/..., not /System/Library/.... Everything else seems to build 64 bit by default, and the default Python 2.6.1 was 64 bit (before I replaced it with the Python.org build figuring it was a direct replacement)` I just want a 64 bit only build that will run on my one machine without any cruft. My repo's .hg/hgrc file is as follows: [hooks] pretxncommit = python:hg_checksize.newbinsize The thing is that I don't know where TortoiseHg's PYTHONPATH variable is set. How do I change it? Or where do I put my Python file so that it is visible by TortoiseHg's Python interpreter? I cannot find any mention of hooks in TortoiseHg's documentation or through Google?

  • Visual Studio 2010 Can no longer build .NET v3.5

    I have a 2010 project that is targeting .NET v3.5. Inexplicably I can no longer build v3.5 projects. The project doesn't have ANY references added. It won't even let me add a reference to System.Core as it is added by the 'build system'. warning CS1685: The predefined type 'System.Func' is defined in multiple assemblies in the global alias; using definition from 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\mscorlib.dll' IFilter.cs(82,49): error CS0433: The type 'System.Func' exists in both 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5\System.Core.dll' and 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\mscorlib.dll' Looks like something is grabbing onto 4.0 but I'm not quite sure how to fix it. Any one else run into this? Coworker had this same issue. It took a reinstall of Windows to correct the problem I've opened a bug on this one: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/558245/warning-cs1685-when-compiling-a-v3-5-net-application-in-visual-studio-2010 If the compiler is set to verbose I see this: FrameworkPathOverride = C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 which is defined as: Specifies the location of mscorlib.dll and microsoft.visualbasic.dll. This parameter is equivalent to the /sdkpath switch of the vbc.exe compiler. Some other interesting tidbits: I've created a new project all together and cannot build v3.5 at all. I can build 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 Client Profile, 4.0 and 4.0 Client Profile with no problem. VB.NET can build v3.5 but C# cannot. I've tried a reinstall of .NET 3.5, 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010 with no success. Visual Studio debug logs shown nothing interesting and Safe Mode does not work. Trying to avoid a Windows reinstall...

Access is denied errors when TortoiseHg tries to update the read-only files. I can do the update from the command line using a -f, but I'm wondering if there's a command, option, or setting that will solve this problem in the TortoiseHg GUI.

  • How can I mark a group of changes/changesets in SVN, Hg, or Git

    I would like to mark an arbitrary group of commits/changesets with a label. Commit 1 *Mark 1 Commit 2 *Mark 2 Commit 3 Commit 4 *Mark 1 Commit 5 *Mark 2 The goal is to easily locate all the changes for a specific mark, and to have that grouping persisted in the VCS directly, as opposed to some outside system like a bug tracking system. The location and ordering of the marks needs to be arbitrary, and should be able to work with both committed/uncommitted and pushed/unpushed changes. In SVN the best way I know is to just edit the commit notes and add some sort of special text that you can search for e.g. "**Mark 1". Or just to make a fake edit and commit it and use its commit note to list all the included revisions. Is there a better solution for SVN? Are there equivalent or better solutions for Hg or Git?

  • Android ndk-build command does nothing

    I have a similar question to that posted here: Android NDK: why ndk-build doesn't generate .so file and a new libs folder in Eclipse? ...though I am running Windows 7, not Mac os. Essentially the ndk-build command is run, gives no error but doesn't create an .so file (also, since I'm on windows this should create a .dll and not an .so?). I tried running the command from the root, jni, src folders etc. but got the same result; cmd just returns to the prompter after a few seconds. I ran it again from the jni folder with NDK_LOG=1 parameter to see what was happening. Here is a portion of the transcript of the log results after running ndk-build in the jni folder (after it successfully identified the platform, etc.)...     Github has no problem with triggering a build in Hudson with security turned off because the build is a public URL. But I'd like to be able to have logins required on Hudson so that people can't arbitrarily build. I tried looking for a HTTP basic auth method so I can include the credentials in the URL itself, but couldn't find anything like that. Has anyone used Hudson with Github and run into this problem?

    I'm trying to better integrate Eclipse with my build.xml. My build file calls GNU Make for the native portion of the program, and the Makefile uses sudo to movethe compiled libs into system path. Unfortunately that requires entering a password, and Eclipse's terminal doesn't accept user input. So the result from running the build in eclipse is: [exec] sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified [exec] make: *** [install] Error 1 Any way around this problem? Can the ant build be elevated to root some other way?

    I have a similar issue as in this issue, but in my case I am trying to use cygwin. First I followed the instructions here, and I ran: $ easy_install hg-git The I created ~/.hgrc, with: [extensions] hgext.bookmarks = hggit = Then when I typed 'hg' at a command prompt, I'd see: "* failed to import extension hggit: No module named hggit" So I did a search for "hggit" and found /cygdrive/c/Python26/Lib/site-packages/hg_git-0.2.1-py2.6.egg/hggit, so I updated .hgrc: [extensions] hgext.bookmarks = hggit = /cygdrive/c/Python26/Lib/site-packages/hg_git-0.2.1-py2.6.egg/hggit Then when I type 'hg' I get "No module named dulwich.errors" If you read this question, it's the same problem.   • Combining Hg Commits Before Pushing?

    Let's say I am working on a feature branch cloned from an hg repository - I make some commits and then push the changes back to the repository as expected. However, is there any way to combine multiple commits into a single changeset for the push? For example, today I committed some changes and then remembered I hadn't updated the README file - which meant a 'single' set of changes actually consisted of 2 commits to my local repository. When I pushed these changes back to the original repository it would of been useful to combine the two as a single entity to save cluttering up the repository history.
