  • Asus Eee replacement netbook monitor doesn't fit connector

    I bought a replacement screen for an Asus Eee netbook 1005HA from a company that said the screen they were selling was compatible, but the connector on the replacement is smaller than the original. I've scoured the net for instructions, but so far, I'm out of luck. As far as I can tell, they both have 32 pins, but maybe I'm missing a connector? The replacement is a [LG Philips 10.1 inchs Glossy LED Panel Screen][1]. Picture of two connectors I couldn't include due to low rep. The replacement is on the left.

  • How long does it take for a server to get 'off greylisting'

    Hi all, I asked a question regarding email delays a few months ago, and I think I found a workaround. I changed our email from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]", and it seems to work instantly again. After reading some articles, I believe this could be due to some form of greylisting, though some servers might call it something else -- if a server like yahoo or gmail receive email from a server that it is not used to receiving email from, then sometimes the delay occurs. But a name such as yahoo, gmail, which requires a user to sign up manually -- this delay can be avoided. My question is this: does anyone know more about this issue -- especially since it would be nice to send an email from our own site, instead of needing to use a whitelisted server? Thanks!

  • Enter network credentials as part of batch script

    WinXP: I have several system services that are needed to run some machinery in my lab. The machine these services are running uses a lab login that has administrator rights. Our IS department, unfortunately, has it set up where at some point during the night the login "loses" the privilege level to start/stop these services. The account stays logged in, but the software controlling my hardware becomes unresponsive. In order to get things back up and running, I have to stop the system services and restart them. Because of the security settings, however, I have to re-enter the user password to start the service (even though the user was never logged out). That, I get the "This service cannot be started due to a logon failure" and I have to enter the password. What would be ideal is to have a batch script run before anyone gets into work that stops all of the necessary services, enters the user credentials when prompted, and then restarts them so that everything is ready for first shift to run. I assumed that using the Task Scheduler in Windows would work as it allows you to run batch files with a user's name and password, but this didn't seem to do the trick. With this setup I would arrive to find that all the services are stopped but not started again. (Presumably because the authentication failed.) The batch file is about as simple as it gets, all I have is: net stop "Service1" net stop "Serivce2" etc., then restart in reverse order based on dependency: net start "Service2" net start "Serivce1" What would it take to accomplish what I'm trying to do and restart the services?

    How do you verify what the delimiter for a file is? I'm using eclipse to edit a script file on my windows system that I use to deploy on my unix server. The script specifies file names and I'd like to be certain that eclipse is saving the files with unix end of line delimiters. I've set my preferences to use the Unix Line Delimiter on new files using: Window > Preferences > General > Workspace > "New text file line delimiter" And have changed my script file's line delimiter using. File -> Convert Line Delimiters To Is there a way (preferably with the eclipse IDE) to check that there is no "\r"?

  • Boot records messed on dual boot (win7 and ubuntu) machine with SSD and HDD

    i have a lenovo ideapad y570 with two hard drives: SSD and normal HDD both managed by RapidDrive and windows 7 pre-installed. First, i have shrunk my 500 GB HDD a little bit to make some place for a linux installation. Then i installed linux mint 12 to it, also installed grub onto the drive (dev/sdb). Installation programm has not allowed me to install grub on sda. Then i replaced linux mint with ubuntu 12.04 but installed grub onto the SSD (which is dev/sda and was the default-option). After that i could boot into my windows, only ubuntu worked. So i did a research, and tried: rewriting mbr of windows into sda1, reinstalling grub, replacing grub2 with grub-legacy, and now i think my partitions table are totally messed. If i boot from the SSD, it throws some mbr error and wont boot, if i boot from the HDD, i only get the grub bash. How do i restore the partition tables? I can boot only from a live-cd at the machine.   • How soon does nginx's token bucket replenish when limiting at requests per minute?

    We've decided that we want to experiment and limit requests per minute instead of requests per second on our sites. However, I am confused by the burst parameter in this context. I am under the impression that when you use the 'nodelay' flag, the rate limiting facility acts like a token bucket instead of a leaky bucket. That being the case, the bucket size is equal to the burst parameter, and every time that you violate the policy (say 1 req/s), you have to put a token in the bucket. Once the bucket is full (being equal to the burst setting), you are given a 503 error page. I am also under the impression that once a violator stops going against the policy, a token is removed from the bucket at a rate of 1 token/s allowing him to regain access to the site. Assuming that I have the above correct, my question is what happens when I start regulating access per minute? If we chose 60 requests per minute, at what rate does the token bucket replenish?

    So IIS likes to shut down app pools that aren't in use. While this makes sense, I would like to have certain app pools conterminously running, but I don't want to just disable the automatic app pool restart as some of the settings (e.g., maximum memory limit) are good to have. I know that Microsoft announced the IIS Application Warmup module as an IIS 7.5 feature only then to do a Bait & Switch and pull it again so that they can put it in IIS 8 instead, so I wonder if something exists to run on IIS 7.5/Windows 2008 R2?

  • New power supply and now HDDs are not recognized

    So I upgraded to a new X4 ULTRA power supply that was recommended to me by a local TigerDirect store. After installing it along with a new liquid cooling system, I booted it up and it automatically fried my CD Drive. After that I noticed that the OS wouldn't start and figured out that none of the 4 HDDs in my computer were being recognized by the BIOS. I feel them spool at a steady pace and have tried new cables and connections but to no avail. I triple checked all of the connections and cables and have no idea what is wrong. This isn't the first time I changed a PS or CPU cooling system but I am at a dead end. Any ideas, aside from buying a USB HDD reader and seeing if they are all fried? Also, this is a stock Gateway mobo with the mobo USB connections already dead. Could the new PS have fried the SATA connections??

Basically I know that I can download from ftp using the "ftp" utility but in order to do that I need to do first "ftp open" and then pass the other commands so it doesn't help me because I need to do perform the download only from one command. The download may be performed through http, ftp or any other protocol.   • Why do some machines respond with many RST packets instead of RST-ACK to refuse a connection?

    I have recently been trying to track down a problem with one of our systems and have noticed that it is simply not allowed to connect to a remote machine. However, the remote machine (not controlled by us) is responding to our request for a connection with many TCP RST packets on a different port (26469, 26497, 26498) than the one we originated on (53). It simply wouldn't let up at one point and flooded us with about 10 packets/second for an hour or two of only RST on those obscure high ports. Out of the thousands of nodes we're connecting to, this is the only one ever to show this behavior. What could possibly cause this? EDIT Below is a screenshot of Wireshark when it happened. I don't have the actual dump anymore and can't reproduce this specific scenario every time. Basically, we sent a SYN and immediately got RST on an odd port and so we respond with RST and just keep going back and forth.

  • How to install Gitlab in a VM on a production server?

    I have a production server running Ubuntu 12.04 and I would like to install on it a VM with Gitlab (using Vagrant and Virtualbox). Let's say that the address to access Gitlab is gitlab.mydomain.com . The DNS zone has been configured to point to the IP address of the server. I want users to be able to access to Gitlab (either for pushing to a repository, or for accessing to the web interface) from the outside. The VM has been configured to have an IP address. It means that when browsing http://gitlab.mydomain.com for instance, the request has to be forwarded to the VM on the server, ie. to the VM IP address. What are the ways to configure this? Can Apache be used as a proxy? In this case, I guess it only works for HTTP requests, but not for pushing to a Git repository on the VM.

  • Fullscreen Photo/Video Slideshow App?

    I have a folder that contains a lot of subfolders which include photos and/or videos. Is there any free application that would display them in a random slideshow? It's something I want to run on a PC mounted on a wall. I point it to that folder and it starts displaying it, with some random/nice transitions. No need for anything more fancy, except maybe Previous/Next controls. Edit: Just a quick clarification. Those pictures change all the time, and there are many of them. It's supposed to be in a store to display product pictures, so it's not like someone is actively watching the whole show. Currently, there are around 150,000 pictures or videos.

  • Multiple Graphics Cards on Fedora 15 (Gnome 3)

    I have the (delightful) misfortune of having 3 graphics cards. They are XFX Radeon 5750s. Each drives 2 monitors via dvi. I am having a really hard time getting these running on fedora 15 (gnome 3). So my setup is 3 columns of 2 monitors (the upper monitor is mounted upside down in each column to reduce the bezel between monitors). When the (graphical) login screen comes up all 6 have the blue stripey background that must be the default, but then when I login, things get interesting. In the xorg.conf below, you will see only 2 of the screens in the serverlayout while the other 4 are commented out. Logging in with only 2 of the screens active works well (and it even remembers that the top one is upside down, and should be considered above the lower, i am not sure where it stores this info, but i set it using the graphical "Displays" settings) However, as soon as I uncomment a third screen, or more, it gives me an error message when I login. It's one of those friendly, less helpful messages (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again). If i do not use an xorg.conf, then the "Displays" prefs pane shows only the two monitors on one of my graphics cards Thanks to anyone who can help me get going!   • Dates not recognized as dates in pivot table pulling directly from SQL Server

    My pivot pulls from an external data source with a date column. Excel doesn't see this column as a date and the 'Format Cells' option panel doesn't change how the dates are displayed. The cell data is left-aligned, suggesting a string rather than a date. I have tried cast(myvar as date) and convert(varchar, myvar, 101) and convert(varchar, myvar, 1) in the base table, but none of these have been picked up by Excel as dates. If the column is recognized as a date, I can group by week and month. I understand that if I can't fix this, the next step is to add columns with weeks and months for each date to the table, but I'd like to give formatting the column one more shot before doing that.
