  • Using the same variable across multiple files in C++

    - by Sam152
In the process of changing some code, I have spilt some functions into multiple files. I have the files controls.cpp and display.cpp and I would like to be able to have access to the same set of variables in both files. I don't mind where they are initialized or declared, as long as the functions in both files can use them. This was not an issue when the functions were in the same file, but now it seems almost impossible after an hour of googling and trying various things.

  • Best way to save to nsuserdefaults for custom class?

    - by cannyboy
If I have a custom class Person which has three variables (which are propertized and synthesized): NSString* theName; float* theHeight; int theAge; Person instances are stored in an NSArray 'Group'. There is only one Group. What is the best way of string and loading the Group in NSUserDefaults? (bearing in mind that float and int are not legal for NSUserDefaults)

  • Parse CSS out from <style> elements

    - by awj
Can someone tell me an efficient method of retrieving the CSS between tags on a page of markup in .NET? I've come up with a method which uses recursion, Split() and CompareTo() but is really long-winded, and I feel sure that there must be a far shorter (and more clever) method of doing the same. Please keep in mind that it is possible to have more than one element on a page, and that the element can be either or .

  • C++ finding pointer errors

    - by Tony
Hello! I am currently on a project which has been buggy for a long while, now I suspect, among other things, that there is pointer errors in the code. The program is written in native C++ using COM and uses out-of-process COM servers. Can anybody give me some tips as how one would go about finding these errors? Is there specific things to keep in mind, ways to do it, etc...

  • Useful Vim features

    - by Craig H
Vim is my editor of choice, and I feel I am above average in my use of it. I do recognize, though, that the feature list of vim is huge. With this in mind, I was wondering what features you vim users out there use on a regular basis.

  • is there a way to condense a vector (C++)?

    - by zebraman
I have a sparsely populated vector that I populated via hashing, so elements are scattered randomly in the vector. Now what I want to do is iterate over every element in that vector. What I had in mind was essentially condensing the vector to fit the number of elements present, removing any empty spaces. Is there a way I can do this?

  • Multithreaded Applications

    - by j-t-s
Hi All I have been reading the articles on MSDN, but my mind is dead (this usually happens when I read MSDN (No offense MSDN, but your articles confuse me at times.)), and I'm trying to do some "background work" in may app, but not sure how. It's just a single method. But the application hangs, and I have to wait up to 1 - 3 minutes for it to become ...unhanged? Are there any simple examples that are laying 'roun online somewhere that I can have a look at/play around with? Thank you all

  • How expensive is synchronization?

    - by someguy
I am writing a networking application using the java.nio api. My plan is to perform I/O on one thread, and handle events on another. To do this though, I need to synchronize reading/writing so that a race condition is never met. Bearing in mind that I need to handle thousands of connections concurrently, is synchronization worth it, or should I use a single thread for I/O and event handling?

  • would there be such case of jumping, if yes how?

    - by Pooria
I have an issue in the mind and that is since the jump instruction changes EIP register by adding signed offsets to it(if I'm not making a mistake here), on IA-32 architecture how would going upward in memory from location 0x7FFFFFFF(biggest positive number in signed logic) to 0x80000000(least negative number in signed logic) be possible? or maybe there shouldn't be such jump due to the nature of signed logic?

  • Would Python make a good substitute for the Windows command-line/batch scripts?

    - by Lawrence Johnston
I've got some experience with Bash, which I don't mind, but now that I'm doing a lot of Windows development I'm needing to do basic stuff/write basic scripts using the Windows command-line language. For some reason said language really irritates me, so I was considering learning Python and using that instead. Is Python suitable for such things? Moving files around, creating scripts to do things like unzipping a backup and restoring a SQL database, etc.

  • Is flash's geturl(...) spiderable by google?

    - by tom
If I made a homepage with an embedded .swf which had buttons that linked to other html pages on my website using the getUrl() function, would those links be spiderable by google? Or should I also put in text links outside of the .swf (which would ruin the design a bit)? I know a lot of people will argue I shouldn't have flash as the main content on the homepage (and their comments are appreciated), but bear in mind, that's not my question.

  • Feature panel hover changer effect

    - by user1519157
Haven't seen this before so hopefully someone has a easy solve, I have a 3 feature panel divs side by side, what I want happen is the 1st panel has a "hover" class added so I can change the background etc and then on a timed interval the hover class jumps to the next panel then the next panel then back to the start on a loop. Also on a side note can you keep the code in mind to be able to add more then 3 feature divs so you could have for example 6 or more or less etc.

  • Creating Java Dialogs

    - by mike_hornbeck
What would be the easiest way for creating a dialog: - in one window I'm giving data for envelope addressing, also set font type from list of sizes - when clicked OK, in the same window or in next window I get preview of how the envelope would look like with the given names, and used selected font size It should look similarly to this : Should I use Jdialog ? Or will JOptionPane will be enough ? The next step will be to choose color of font and background so I must keep that in mind.

  • Removing &NBSP; in Rails

    - by Trip
I am trying to remove all &nbsp;'s in my model with the following method : def about_us_sans_spaces self.about_us = replace(self.about_us, "&nbsp;", " ") end Except! it turns out 'replace' isn't a method in rails. How would you remove the  s? Mind you, I have already tried sanitized, simple_format. My view looks like this right now: = truncate(sanitize(simple_format(organization.about_us_sans_spaces), :tags => ''), 125).titleize
