  • Workflow: Deploy Oracle Solaris 11 Zones

    One of the new workflows that we've introduced, which is a pretty good example of what workflows can do for you, is the Deploy Oracle Solaris 11 Zones workflow. This workflow was designed to show you everything you need to do in order to create and manage an environment with zones. It tells you what roles are needed, and it shows you the process using this image: The left side shows you the prerequisites for deploying Oracle Solaris 11 Zones - you need to have Ops Center configured on Oracle Solaris 11, have your libraries set up, and have your hardware ready to go. Once you've done that, you can begin the workflow. If you haven't provisioned Oracle Solaris 11, you do so, then create one or more zones, and create a server pool for those zones. Each one of these steps has an existing How-To, which walks you through the process in detail, and the final step of the workflow directs you to the next workflow that you're likely to be interested in - in this case, the Operating Zones workflow.

  • Bad FPS for smaller size (OpenGL ES with SDL)

    If you saw my other question, well, there is still a little problem: Click here to watch on youtube Basically, the frame rate is very bad on the actual device, where for some reason the animation is scaled (it looks like the left side on the video). It is quite fast on the simulator where it is not scaled (right side). For a test, I submitted this new changeset that hard-codes the smaller size (plus increases the point size for HII regions to make the dust clouds more visible), and as you see in the video, now it is slow even in the simulator (left side shows the small size, right side shows the original size -- otherwise the code is the same). I'm clueless why it's soooo slow with a smaller galaxy, in fact it should be FASTER. As for general speed optimization (which is not strictly part of my question but is closely related to it, esp. if we need a workaround to speed things up), some initial ideas: reducing the number of items drawn may affect the appearance negatively but screen resolution could be reduced there are too many glBegin(GL_POINTS)/glEnd() blocks, we could draw more than just a single star at once

  • Asset displays in the UI

    I've seen a little bit of confusion about how the UI displays assets and asset information, so I thought I'd explain how information and actions are displayed.  In Ops Center, operating systems, servers, zones, Oracle VM Servers, and anything else that you can manage are called assets. When you discover them, Ops Center puts together a model in the navigation pane that shows the relationships between the assets. For example: This tree shows three servers, and the Operating Systems on each one. If one of the operating systems was a global zone, we'd see the non-global zones beneath the global zone as well. However, when you select an asset, the info in the center pane and the actions in the actions pane are the ones that apply to that specific asset, and not to its related assets. If you select a server, for example, you'll see service request info and have the option to provision a new OS. If you select an existing OS, you'll see file system information and have the option to update the OS. Actions that apply directly to the hardware aren't visible from the OS view, and vice versa.

  • Is there a rule of thumb for what a bing map's zoom setting should be based on how many miles you want to display?

    If a map contains pushpins/waypoints that span only a couple of miles, the map should be zoomed way in and show a lot of detail. If the pushpins/waypoints instead cover vast areas, such as hundreds or even thousands of miles, it should be zoomed way out. That's clear. My question is: is there a general guideline for mapping (no pun intended) Bing Maps zoom levels to a particular number of miles that separate the furthest apart points? e.g., is there some chart that has something like: Zoom level N shows 2 square miles Zoom level N shows 5 square miles etc.?

  • Google Webmaster Tools Data Highlighter says "Failed to load data, please try again later"

    I seem to be unable to access the data highlighter in Google Webmaster Tools since I attempted to start a new highlight on a page. Clicking the red Start Highlighting button to open the tagger did nothing, so I refreshed. Now, the page loads without the middle content section, then a few seconds later shows the following error: Failed to load data, please try again later. I can't get any of the middle section to load, even the list of current pages/page sets that have been highlighted—this error shows. I thought it may be a Google service outage, but other sites' data highlighters work fine. It also seems coincidental that it stopped working after I attempted to start highlighting—I was able to list the existing pages and page sets fine before that, and still am able to access the service on other sites. I've tried clearing browser data and have tried Google Chrome as well—same problem. What's happened?

  • Canonicalization of single, small pages like reviews or product categories

    In general I pretty much like the idea of canonicalization. And in most cases, Google explains possible procedures in a clear way. For example: If I have duplicates because of parameters (eg: &sort=desc) it's clear to use the canonical for the site, provided the within the head-tag. However I'm wondering how to handle "small - no to say thin content - sites". What's my definition of a small site? An Example: On one of my main sites, we use a directory based url-structure. Let's see: example.com/ (root) example.com/category-abc/ example.com/category-abc/produkt-xy/ Moreover we provide on page, that includes all products example.com/all-categories/ (lists all products the same way as in the categories) In case of reviews, we use a similar structure: example.com/reviews/product-xy/ shows all review for one certain product example.com/reviews/product-xy/abc-your-product-is-great/ shows one certain review example.com/reviews/ shows all reviews for all products (latest first) Let's make it even more complicated: On every product site, there are the latest 2 reviews at the end of the page. So you see, a lot of potential duplicates. Q1: Should I create canonicals for a: example.com/category-abc/ to example.com/all-categories/ b: example.com/reviews/product-xy/abc-your-product-is-great/ to example.com/reviews/product-xy/ or to example.com/review/ or none of them? Q2: Can I link the collection of categories (all-categories/) and collection of all reviews (reviews/ and reviews/product-xy/) to the single category respectively to the single review. Example: example.com/reviews/ includes - let's say - 100 reviews. Can I somehow use a markup that tells search engines: "Hey, wait, you are now looking at a collection of 100 reviews - do not index this collection, you should rather prefer indexing every single review as a single page!". In HTML it might be something like that (which - of course - does not work, it's only to show you what I mean): <div class="review" rel="canonical" href="http://example.com/reviews/product-xz/abc-your-product-is-great/"> HERE GOES THE REVIEW</div> Reason: I don't think it is a great user experience if the user searches for "your product is great" and lands on example.com/reviews/ instead of example.com/reviews/product-xy/abc-your-product-is-great/. On the first site, he will have to search and might stop because of frustration. The second result, however, might lead to a conversion. The same applies for categories. If the user is searching for category-Z, he might land on the all-categories page and he has to scroll down to the (last) category, to find what he searched for (Z). So what's best practice? What should I do?

  • Ubuntu 12.04.3 alongside Windows 8.1

    I brought a new Notebook which has pre-installed Windows 8.1 with an uefi* (-Bios) and secure boot*. (* can switch or turn so off, still no success) When i try to install Ubuntu 12.04.3, the installer doesn't recognize Windows 8.1. There were options, to delete the whole disk or do something else. The second option, shows a few partitions (NTFS) but no Windows. The Ubuntu 13.10 version even did start on my notebook, it gets frozen during start up. (I thought. maybe the newer one will recognize Windows.) I'm not very confident in manipulating grub, I hope there is an easy way or an easy description.   • ATI Radeon HD 5750 and lagging in games and youtube videos

    I have a X-ONE W-601 desktop pc: 3,1GHz AMD QuadCore Athlon II 645 X4 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1000 GB Harddisk 7200RPM ATI Radeon HD5750 with 1GB DDR5 RAM I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit and have installed the proprietary driver, but still games lag and videos a little bit. Been googling around and seen that it has something to do with the older drivers from AMD and KMS, but no guide helped me correctly through to make my graphic card work smoothly. I don't know if this helps but "fglrxinfo" in terminal shows: display: :0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series OpenGL version string: 4.1.11005 Compatibility Profile Context And the driver check command shows: [ 51.184] (II) ATI Proprietary Linux Driver Version Identifier:8.88.7 Any help appreciated :D

  • GParted detects entire disk as UNALLOCATED SPACE + hd0 out of disk

    Good day to everyone. I hope someone can help me with my problem. I have a dual boot Windows and Ubuntu system. I recently encountered an hd0 out of disk error and wasn't able to boot Ubuntu. So I booted into Windows. After 2 to 3 times of booting and rebooting Windows, I tried booting Ubuntu again but still I get the same hd0 out of disk error. I decided to run Ubuntu from LIVEUSB to try to fix my Ubuntu partition using GParted, but when I run GParted, it shows my entire disk as UNALLOCATED SPACE! The strange thing is that Nautilus still shows and mounts my partitions. Also every time I boot into Windows , my partitions exists and I am able to read and write to them. I have no idea what is wrong. Please help! I can't stand using Windows since most of the tools I use are in Ubuntu. I don't mind reinstalling Ubuntu. In fact I already tried reinstalling using the LIVEUSB but since GParted or the Ubuntu installer itself does not recognize my partitions and shows the entire disk as unallocated space, I decided not to continue. I am currently running Ubuntu from LIVEUSB. Now, my question is, how do I fix this or modify the extended partition (sda4) to matched the total number of sectors? Anyone, please??? UPDATE I was able to fix the unallocated space issue with the help of Rod Smith's tool called fixparts I am now able to view my partitions via GParted in LiveUSB. But the error: hd0 out of disk. Press any key to continue... still persists on reboot. I still can't boot into Ubuntu. Can someone help me please???

  • USB modeswitch to mass storage device

    I'm trying to install a Sierra AirCard 320U (branded as "Telstra USB 4G") into a VirtualBox Windows XP machine, on an Ubuntu 10.10 host. usb_modeswitch offers me a way to disable the "mass storage device" option, but I can't see a way to permanently re-enable it so it's usable by VirtualBox (device filters briefly detect it but then it disappears again). lsusb shows the device as: 0f3d:68aa Airprime, Incorporated When I first insert the device, it shows as 1199:0fff Sierra Wireless, Inc. Is there any way to re-enable the storage device so VirtualBox can see it?

Q: What are the top three things people should know about your music? A: We focus on original material and blend funk with blues. We're big on songwriting but also performance, groove, and feel of the music. It's music you can dance to! We're from London, England and have been labeled 'one of the UK's leading blues/funk bands'. Oh - that's four things! :) Q: Do you prefer smaller, intimate venues or larger, louder ones? A: Actually both, for different reasons. We play many intimate club shows in London at prestigious venues such as the 100 Club. There's lots of musical history with these types of clubs where the likes of the Rolling Stones used to play week-in week-out in the '60s. Usually these shows generally have a fantastic atmosphere, with a close connection to the audience, who are packed close to the stage. They often turn up surprises too…for example, we've had artists such as Amy Winehouse and Mick Abrahams in the crowd enjoying the show and then asking to come onstage and play with the band. Lots of fun! The larger venues are great too, in a different way. We've played to 3,000-person+ crowds and the atmosphere with so many people enjoying the show is a real buzz. It's also nice to play outdoor venues, especially in places with nice weather like California! Q: What's new and different in the music you are playing today, versus a year or two ago? A: Well, we released a new album earlier this year. It's called Flat Nine; it's on the Proper Records label. Whilst our music has always been a blend of blues and vintage funk, this album in particular has evolved our funk side even further. We've received some really great reviews from the music press in the UK and had generous comparisons to the likes of The Meters, Dr. John, The Average White Band, Howlin' Wolf. The album has generated lots of interest, which is fantastic. We're playing to regular sellout shows in the UK and are also opening for some legends of the funk music scene, such as The New Mastersounds.   • Does an onboard video affect the X windows configuration?

    Does the onboard video on the motherboard affect the X windows configuration? My system has onboard and pcie video. The onboard video is a NVIDIA GeForce 7025 GPU, On Board Graphic Max. Memory Share Up to 512MB(Under OS By Turbo Cache). I have a pcie dual head video card installed with two monitors. The video card is a GeForce 8400 GS, with 512mb memory. When installing Ubuntu 12.04, only one monitor worked. When pulling up system settings- Displays it shows a laptop. This is a desktop pc. I did get both monitors to work using nvidia using twinview -- A complicated process! When checking nvidia now it shows the monitors disabled. The Nvidia X server setting does show the GPU and all the information. I was thinking it's seeing the onboard video on the motherboard. Why else would it show laptop?

This is possible now Coherence 12.1.3 supports Memcached clients using the Binary Memcached protocol. David's post shows how the Coherence Memcached adaptor can be configured as a proxy service that runs in the Coherence cluster. There's nothing particular to configure in the PHP application, except to enable memcached.use_sasl = 1 So what is Coherence?   • How to play VOB files that were inside a DVD disc?

    I just downloaded a DVD which is for a movie. After uncompressing the DVD file I see .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files. If I open the first .VOB file it shows me the DVD menu but I can't interact with it. So, my question is... is Totem able to play those kind of files? If so, how can I achieve that? What other app could I use in order to reproduce those files? Edit Using VLC didn't work neither. I forgot to mention I have already tried that. Let me rephrase: if I open the first video file it shows the DVD menu, BUT I can't interact with it.

  • Why can't I upgrade my kernel via the terminal?

    If I type sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade I can only see that the kernel packages are kept back, and not installed. As the screenshot shows. If I then start the update manager I can install the kernel, with no problems at all. As the second screenshot shows. Why is this? The kernel is a new package and not an upgrade of an old one, this is why you can't use the command upgrade that upgrades packages. You need to use the command dist-upgrade to install new packages.

  • Customizing JBar for Notifications

    Lately I've been using JBar, a very neat jQuery plugin for displaying notifications in my web applications. Unfortunately the original version of JBar only supports binding to the click event of a DOM item. In order to get around this limitation I have modified the source code and posted an updated version on my GitHub account here. The modified version allows you to display a JBar notification by calling a method. I typically use it to display succes or failure messages when doing Ajax calls. I have also included some additional CSS and JS so that you can diplay different styles of notifications. showNotification(message) shows a green "success" message. showWarning(message) shows an orange "warning" message. showMessage(message, className) allows you to specify a custom class to apply to the notification for additional styling purposes.     I've got two 2TB drivess: one MBR and the other GPT. sudo blckid /dev/sdb1 returns a blank. gdisk shows: Partition table scan: MBR: protective BSD: not present APM: not present GPT: present Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT. Warning! Secondary partition table overlaps the last partition by 1970 blocks! You will need to delete this partition or resize it in another utility.   • Dual Monitor/Xinerama not working; cannot even detect on-board graphic card

    I have Kubuntu 12.04 and two identical VGA monitors. One I plugged via DVI-VGA adapter into the DVI port of my discrete AMD Radeon HD 6670, the other into the VGA port of my on-board graphic card (Radeon HD 6410D). After installing Kubuntu I got a black screen, so I booted with nomodeset and installed AMD's catalyst drivers but only the monitor plugged into the discrete graphic card worked. Using lspci I saw that the on-board graphics was not listed. Then I found in the BIOS settings the options "Surround View" and "Onboard Dual Link DVI" both disabled. After enabling both, the on-board graphics card shows up in lspci but in amdcccle, it only shows as [Uknown display]Uknown adapter. When I try to enable xinerama, I get a black screen after rebooting on both monitors. I tried several options and hints from the web but nothing worked so far. I also reinstalled the AMD drivers several times. What should I do?
