  • My hard drive can only boot once every two times

    Hi all, I just installed a Kingston 64 GB SSD into my laptop, replacing the old 80 GB 5400 RPM one. The drive starts up and works fine every other time. For example, if I'm running normally, and press "Restart", I get: 2100 Initialization error on HDD0. I turn off the computer manually, restart, and...it boots into Ubuntu again. This happens every other time without fail...anyone know what the problem could be?

    I have a number of User Defined Data Collector Sets running on a Windows 2008R2 server, collecting perfmon stats from various servers. Whenever there is a network interruption, or a server rebooted (at worst, when the server which is running all these DCSs is rebooted), I have to manually restart some or all of the Data Collector Sets. Is there a way to configure them to automatically restart, or otherwise be more resilient?

    This particular problem has little do with SubVersion Repositories and more to do with the management of installed programs. My question revolves around the problem of installing a program from source. If I where to build a distro with no package management system what possibilities would I have for maintaining the program is up to date. My only idea would be to keep a record of all the programs installed from source and perform a periodic check to identify if a new version is out.

  • Record keyboard/mouse macros for games

    I want to record a keyboard/mouse macro for automatically playing repetitive flash games. The programs I'm familiar with xnee/gnee/pnee and xmacro don't work under Ubuntu 10.04. (Xnee gives "Xnee failed due to bad data received from RECORD extension" for version 3.02, which is a known issue which I haven't found a solution for, and xmacro just plain doesn't work...) Are there any other methods I could use besides these two programs? Thanks

  • Document stuck in printing queue

    My sister still has Win XP. She tried to print a document on her USB printer and now it's stuck in the printing queue. I tried the following: Restart the computer Restart the printer Delete the entry from the printing queue From the printing queue choose Printer\Cancel All Documents Right click the print job and choose Pause The status of the printing job now reads "Deleting - Paused - Printing". Nothing I do seems to get rid of this stuck printing job. What should I do?

However, when I right-click on a file, and select Send to Mail recipient I get a message box saying:There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel. Is there a way to get this action working with Mail?

  • Reset network (airport) connections from the command line

    I have this MacBook Pro that has intermittent problems connecting to my Wifi network. Sometimes it helps to disable/re-enable airport and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get my network running again. Has anyone experienced this? And is there a command I can run that would do the same as I do when I restart the computer (short of actually restarting it, obviously) or at least a command that restarts the airport service? But when archiving a folder containing already compressed files, there is no need to compress them a second time, such as archives, packed setup program, jpg, movies, mp3,....     Is there a way to configure Internet Explorer's "Open links from other programs in:" option per program? I'm looking for a way to allow different programs to act differently when clicking hyperlinks. For example, if I click a hyperlink in Microsoft Outlook I'd prefer it to open a new tab in the current window (option 2) but if I click a link out of an instant messenger program I'd prefer it to open in the current tab or window (option 3). Version wise I'm looking for a way to do it with IE 8+.

I need to install a specific program (which fits in my system requirements), which is bundled with a number of other programs on an DVD.   • Computer runs but monitor is on power saving mode?

    This stuff rarely happens, but when it does I simply restart my PC then it works fine. But today after several restart attempts it seems to be stuck. I tried removing the video card then switched to onboard video, same thing: The PC runs, (there's power and fans are working) but the monitor is stuck on power saving mode (blank screen). Is this a monitor or PC problem? Any ideas what might be the problem? I'm Windows 7 btw.

    hi, i have a few programs that check if file exist, and if its old version delete him and paste the new one. However under Windows 7 Professional i can't delete the file some System process is always restoring it (same with the dll files) and as you can imagine a lot of programs are crashing because of that behaviour. When machine asks me how I want to install Ubuntu on my computer (install Ubuntu inside windows 7, replace windows 7 with Ubuntu, something else) I chose inside windows 7 and clicked continue then here is the trouble machine restart itself every time.   • Prevent Python from caching the imported modules

    While developing a largeish project (split in several files and folders) in Python with IPython, I run into the trouble of cached imported modules. The problem is that instructions import module only reads the module once, even if that module has changed! So each time I change something in my package, I have to quit and restart IPython. Painful. Is there any way to properly force reloading some modules? Or, better, to somehow prevent Python from caching them? I tried several approaches, but none works. In particular I run into really, really weird bugs, like some modules or variables mysteriously becoming equal to None... The only sensible resource I found is Reloading Python modules, from pyunit, but I have not checked it. I would like something like that. A good alternative would be for IPython to restart, or restart the Python interpreter somehow. So, if you develop in Python, what solution have you found to this problem?
