  • [Facebook Graph API - Android] I want to know the HTTPSConnection redirected to which URL?

    - by Mohammad Abdelaziz
I am building an application that uses the Facebook Graph API. To get the access token I should send the following request https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize? client_id=...& redirect_uri=http://www.example.com/callback It redirects to the redirect_uri with the code to be used as access token. How can I capture that the HttpsURLConnection is redirected and how to get the code? Is it possible or I need to have server that gets the access token?

  • Facebook connect displaying invite friends dialog and closing on completion

    - by Dougnukem
    I'm trying to create a Facebook Connect application that displays a friend invite dialog within the page using Facebook's Javascript API (through a FBMLPopupDialog). The trouble is to display a friend invite dialog you use a multi-friend form which requires an action="url" attribute that represents the URL to redirect your page to when the user completes or skips the form. The problem is that I want to just close the FBMLPopupDialog (the same behavior as if the user just hit the 'X' button on the popup dialog). The best I can do is redirect the user back to the page they were on basically a reload but they lose all AJAX/Flash application state. I'm wondering if any Facebook Connect developers have run into this issue and have a good way to simply display a friend invite "lightbox" dialog within their website where they don't want to "refresh" or "redirect" when the user finishes. The facebook connect JS API provides a FB.Connect.inviteConnectUsers, which provides a nice dialog but only connects existing users of your application who also have a Facebook account and haven't connected. http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show%5Fbug.cgi?id=4916 function fb_inviteFriends() { //Invite users log("Inviting users..."); FB.Connect.requireSession( function() { //Connect succes var uid = FB.Facebook.apiClient.get_session().uid; log('FB CONNECT SUCCESS: ' + uid); //Invite users log("Inviting users..."); //Update server with connected account updateAccountFacebookUID(); var fbml = fb_getInviteFBML() ; var dialog = new FB.UI. FBMLPopupDialog("Weblings Invite", fbml) ; //dialog.setFBMLContent(fbml); dialog.setContentWidth(650); dialog.setContentHeight(450); dialog.show(); }, //Connect cancelled function() { //User cancelled the connect log("FB Connect cancelled:"); } ); } function fb_getInviteFBML() { var uid = FB.Facebook.apiClient.get_session().uid; var fbml = ""; fbml = '<fb:fbml>\n' + '<fb:request-form\n'+ //Redirect back to this page ' action="'+ document.location +'"\n'+ ' method="POST"\n'+ ' invite="true"\n'+ ' type="Weblings Invite"\n' + ' content="I need your help to discover all the Weblings and save the Internet! WebWars: Weblings is a cool new game where we can collect fantastic creatures while surfing our favorite websites. Come find the missing Weblings with me!'+ //Callback the server with the appropriate Webwars Account URL ' <fb:req-choice url=\''+ WebwarsFB.WebwarsAccountServer +'/SplashPage.aspx?action=ref&reftype=Facebook' label=\'Check out WebWars: Weblings\' />"\n'+ '>\n'+ ' <fb:multi-friend-selector\n'+ ' rows="2"\n'+ ' cols="4"\n'+ ' bypass="Cancel"\n'+ ' showborder="false"\n'+ ' actiontext="Use this form to invite your friends to connect with WebWars: Weblings."/>\n'+ ' </fb:request-form>'+ ' </fb:fbml>'; return fbml; }

  • C# Winforms vs WPF

    - by m0s
Hi pros, I am a student and I do freelance here and there when I have opportunity. I believe my strongest language is C#. I don't really know what is going on in real programming world, so I was wondering if WPF did take over WinForms? I know the differences between two and how two can be used simultaneously but, I just don't want to invest my time in learning dying technologies, I hope you understand. So, for windows desktop programming what would you recommend to master WinForms, WPF or maybe both? I also get a lot that desktop programming is dead already and one should only care about learning web programming. Thanks for attention, any comments are greatly appreciated.

  • RPXNow user mapping

    - by chelfers
I am looking into solutions for providing multiple login methods to my site. I found rpxnow.com and they map user accounts from all the different networks. My question is how do they know that I am user1 on twitter and bigdude2 on facebook? I'm hoping it goes beyond email lookups. The end result I want is a unique user in my database no matter what account they sign in with, dupes are a no-no, but most likely inevitable I am guessing.

  • OAuth request token for an installed application

    - by Andres
Hi all I'm trying to use/understand Google request token mechanism. I intend to use it for an application I've start to develop to access Orkut data using OpenSocial API. I read this document that explains the steps to obtain a token for an installed application. This document tells you to use the OAuthGetRequestToken method from Google OAuth API to acquire a request token . Accessing the manual of this function (available here). But the parameter oauth_consumer_key, which is required, asks for the "Domain identifying the third-party web application", but I don,t have a domain, it is an installed application. So my question is, what should I put in this parameter in that case? I'm using oauth_playground to run my tests. Thx

  • Only show activities from a specific gadget in OpenSocial

    - by corné
I created a gadget which is able to post activities: function postActivity(text) { var params = {}; params[opensocial.Activity.Field.TITLE] = text; var activity = opensocial.newActivity(params); opensocial.requestCreateActivity(activity, opensocial.CreateActivityPriority.HIGH); }; And I request activities by doing: req.add(req.newFetchActivitiesRequest( new opensocial.IdSpec({'userId' : 'VIEWER', 'groupId' : 'FRIENDS'})), 'friends_activities'); My question is: How can I filter activities to only show activities posted by a specific gadget? I reckon the field "appId" is meant for this, but this field is empty in the response.

  • How to hide Thinking at Work so that the Non-Programmers don't suspect Slacking?

    - by stesch
Better programmers than me can write in essays about walking around with a coffee mug and call it programming. And it's perfectly accepted at a place that knows the business. Or see what Gregory House (TV show "House M.D.") does when he is thinking. But what about the other places where you are the only programmer? If you don't stare at boring stuff on the monitor for 8 hours straight, co-workers suspect you being a slacker. Yes, not the managers who see the output. Only the co-workers who see the process and can't relate to this kind of work. Yesterday I had to explain to a trainee of some other profession that software development is like flying. The explanation from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I don't think she bought it.

  • Voting UI for showing like/dislike community comments side-by-side

    - by Justin Grant
We want to add a comments/reviews feature to our website's plugin gallery, so users can vote up/down a particular plugin and leave an optional short comment about what they liked or didn't like about it. I'm looking for inspiration, ideally a good implementation elsewhere on the web which isn't annoying to end users, isn't impossibly complex to develop, and which enables users to see both good and bad comments side-by-side, like this: Like: 57 votes Dislike: 8 votes --------------------------------- -------------------------------- "great plugin, saved me hours..." "hard to install" "works well on MacOS and Ubuntu" "Broken on Windows Vista with UAC enabled" "integrates well with version 3.2" More... More... Anyone know a site which does something like this?

  • Adding Comments and ratings to Sharepoint document libraries or Picture libraires

    - by Emad
Is there a ready made solution to allow users to add comments to an image posted in SharePoint picture library or basically any item in a document library? What I need is allow user who are viewing an image from a picture library for example to add comment, view comments others have left and provide some sort of voting. Similar to what you get with Facebook or Youtube. What is the easiest way to do that? preferably something free

  • How to get visitors for a community site

    - by Dofs
I am in the process of creating a small community for car owners. I am still in the development process, but was wondering how to get users to visit the site when it is done. My main focus is the forum, and you probably all know that, nobody wants to visit a dead forum. I was thinking of two options on how to start the community: Advertising on the internet. Creating fake posts by myself The problem is to get the first few people using the forum, and I want to know if any of you guys have some experience doing it?

  • Algorithm for scoring user activity

    - by ManBugra
I have an application where users can: Write reviews about products Add comments to products Up / Down vote reviews Up / Down vote comments Every Up/Down vote is recorded in a db table. What i want to do now is to create a ranking of the most active users in the last 4 weeks. Of course good reviews should be weighted more than good comments. But also e.g. 10 good comments should be weighted more than just one good review. Example: // reviews created in recent 4 weeks //format: [ upVoteCount, downVoteCount ] var reviews = [ [120,23], [32,12], [12,0], [23,45] ]; // comments created in recent 4 weeks // format: [ upVoteCount, downVoteCount ] var comments = [ [1,2], [322,1], [0,0], [0,45] ]; // create weight vector // format: [ reviewWeight, commentsWeight ] var weight = [0.60, 0.40]; // signature: activties..., activityWeight var userActivityScore = score(reviews, comments, weight); ... update user table ... List<Users> users = "from users u order by u.userActivityScore desc"; How would a fair scoring function look like? How could an implementation of the score() function look like? How to add a weight g to the function so that reviews are weighted heavier? How would such a function look like if, for example, votes for pictures would be added?

  • How to collect user opinions about software

    - by alga
I have written a small .net Windows Forms application. And now I decided to get opinions or comments from users. User will just write something in a input form and click a send button. I want to use the most easiest way. I don't want to host any webservices or another applications for gathering the information. Also I don't have a database. Nothing. I just want to know what people think about the application. How would you do it?

  • PHP News Feed Database & Design

    - by pws5068
I'm designing a News Feed system using PHP/MySQL similar to facebook's. I have asked a similar question before but now I've changed the design and I'm looking for feedback. Example News: User_A commented on User_B's new album. "Hey man nice pictures!" User_B added a new Photo to [his/her] profile. [show photo thumbnail] Initially, I implemented this using excessive columns for Obj1:Type1 | Obj2:Type2 | etc.. Now the design is set up using a couple special keywords, and actor/receiver relationships. My database uses a table of messages joined on a table containing userid, actionid, receiverid, receiverObjectTypeID, Here's a condensed version of what it will look like once joined: News_ID | User_ID | Message | Timestamp 2643 A %a commented on %o's new %r. SomeTimestamp 2644 B %a added a new %r to [his/her] profile. SomeTimestamp %a = the User_ID of the person doing the action %r = the receiving object %o = the owner of the receiving object (for example the owner of the album) (NULL if %r is a user) Questions: Is this a smart (efficient/scalable) way to move forward? How can I show messages like: "User_B added 4 new photos to his profile."?

  • API to Rank blog articles

    - by mnml
I would like to know if there is any easy way to rank blog articles by counting how many times they have been retweeted / digg'ed / buzz'ed and if there is an existing api for it. The idea would be to keep important 'stories' at the top of the blog timeline.
