  • .NET Reactor - How to Protect 64-bit Assemblies

    - by Cocowalla
I have build 64-bit (x64) versions of some assemblies and am trying to obfuscate them with .NET Reactor, which claims to have 64-bit support. However, even if I disable all protection and locking options .NET Reactor is always producing 32-bit assemblies! Does anyone know how to get .NET Reactor to produce 64-bit assemblies?

  • Will an ASP.NET MVC 2 app build with the .NET 4.0 RC and VS2010 RC run on a prod server with the .NE

    - by Chris
I have an MVC2 app I developed with the VS2010 RC and the .NET 4.0 RC. My production server and my client's production server have .NET 4.0 RC. Can the RTM of .NET 4.0 on a server support an app developed with the RC technologies? What about the other way around? Can I use VS2010 RTM and deploy an app to production if the prod server is still no the .NET 4.0 RC? Obviously it would be ideal to synch everything up to RTM but I don't have that option right now because the client doesn't have access to VS2010 RTM yet, and they would like to be able to open and build the project.

  • Multithreading improvements in .NET 4

    - by Artiom Chilaru
I have heard that the .NET 4 team has added new classes in the framework that make working with threads better and easier. Basically the question is what are the new ways to run multithreaded tasks added in .NET 4 and what are they designed to be used for? UPD: Just to make it clear, I'm not looking for a single way of running parallel tasks in .NET 4, I want to find out which are the new ones added, and if possible what situation would each of them be best suited for..

  • How to structure a XML-based order form using ASP.NET

    - by Brendan
First question here; please help me if I'm doing something wrong. I'm a graphic designer who's trying to teach himself ASP.NET/C#. My server-side background is PHP/WordPress and some ASP Classic, and when I do code I've hand-coded just about everything since I started learning HTML. So, as I've started to learn .NET, my code has been very manual and procedural. I'm now trying to create a really basic order form that pulls from an XML file to populate the form; there's an image, a title, a price, and selectable quantities. If I was making this form as a static HTML file, I'd have each field named manually and so on postback I could query each field to get the values. But I'm trying to do this dynamically so that I can add/remove items from the form and not have to change the code. In terms of displaying the XML, I rolled my own by loading XmlDocument and using XmlNodeList and a bunch of foreach loops to get things displayed. Then, I learned about <asp:XmlDataSource> and <asp:Repeater>, which made displaying the XML simpler by a large margin. However, I've had a really hard time getting the data that's been submitted on postback (it was implied on SO that there are better ways to get data than nested RepeaterItems). So, what I've learned so far is that you can do things a bunch of different ways in .NET. that's why I thought it'd be good to ask for answers regarding the best way to use ASP.NET to display a XML document and dynamically capture the data that's submitted. Any help is appreciated! I'm using Notepad++ to code .NET 2.0.

  • Compiling ASP.Net 2.0 Application under .Net Framework 3.5 and Compiler reference Problems/errors .

    - by Steve Johnson
Hi all I am converting an ASP.Net 2.0 Project to compile for .Net Framework 3.5 and facing the following compiler error for assembly reference... InternalXmlHelper.vb(9,0): error BC30560: 'ExtensionAttribute' is ambiguous in the namespace 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices'. It appears that there are duplicate assembly references one from 2.0 and the other from 3.5 but i have double checked it and its not the issue.. I have also googled around...with no success.. I have sure that i am doing some tiny mistake in additiona or removal of references,,,Is there any special thing that needs to be checked or done when compiling asp.net 2.0 project under .Net Framework 3.5 ? Kindly help. Thanks Regards

  • Use IIS Application Initialization for keeping ASP.NET Apps alive

    - by Rick Strahl
Ever want to run a service-like, always-on application inside of ASP.NET instead of creating a Windows Service or running a Console application? Need to make sure that your ASP.NET application is always running and comes up immediately after an Application Pool restart even if nobody hits your site? The IIS Application Initialization Module provides this functionality in IIS 7 and later, making it much easier to create always-on ASP.NET applications that can act like a service.

I have a classic ASP page that connects to the mySQL server with the following code: Set oConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set oRecordset = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") oConnection.Open "DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver}; SERVER=xxx.com; PORT=3306; DATABASE=xxx; USER=xxx; PASSWORD=xxx; OPTION=3;" sqltemp = "select * from userinfo WHERE emailAddress = '" & theUN & "'" oRecordset.Open sqltemp, oConnection,3,3 if oRecordset.EOF then ... • VG.net 8.5 Released

    - by Frank Hileman
We have released version 8.5 of the VG.net vector graphics system. This release supports Visual Studio 2013. Companies who purchased a VG.net license after October 1, 2013, are eligible for a free upgrade. We will be sending you an email. There is one cosmetic problem which wasted our time, as we could not find a work around. It occurs when your display is set to a high DPI. You can see the problem in the image of the toolbox below, which uses a DPI of 125%, on Windows 7: The ToolboxItem class accepts only Bitmaps with a size of 16x16. We tried many sizes and many bitmap formats. As you can see, this tiny Bitmap is then scaled by the toolbox, and the scaling algorithm adds artifacts. This is an "improvement" Microsoft recently added to Visual Studio 2013.

  • Implement System.Web.Caching.Cache Object in a controller to cache specific query

    - by Julien
Hello World! I'm Julien and I have a question is it correct to implement my caching object like this in my controller : public class HomeController : BaseController { public static Cache cachingControl = new Cache(); ... And I Use it like this : public ActionResult Home() { IndexViewData view = new IndexViewData(); view.UserId = UserId; if (cachingControl.Get("viewHome") != null) { view = (IndexViewData)cachingControl.Get("viewHome"); } else { view.allAdsList = AllAds(5000, 0); if (Request.QueryString["voirTous"] != null) view.loadGeneral(true); else view.loadGeneral(false); cachingControl.Insert("viewHome", view); } view.adsList = SetupSearch(5, false, 0); return View(view); } But When I Call this line : if (cachingControl.Get("viewHome") != null) { They trow me the error NullErrorException But I know it can be null this is why i'm put this condition to Do you have an alternative or a tips for me thank you! P.S.: I Know that the code is weird :P but I must to support it ... Julien

  • Implementing Custom CacheDependency to invalidate ASP.Net cache item

    - by Ajay
Hi, I want to implement my own customCacheDependency class by deriving base CacheDependency, as provided SqlCacheDependency is not suitable for my case. (thousands of cache items, and there will so many subscriptions in SQL as well as issues with registration in ASP.Net) I want to use this in ASP.Net VirtualPathProvider's our custom implementation, so I can pass this CustomCacheDependecy to notify the asp.net that file content in the DB has changed. Can some one point me to any custom implementation of CacheDependency (preferably using MessageQueue)? Thanks & Regards, Ajay

  • Doing unit and integration tests with the Web API HttpClient

    - by cibrax
One of the nice things about the new HttpClient in System.Net.Http is the support for mocking responses or handling requests in a http server hosted in-memory. While the first option is useful for scenarios in which we want to test our client code in isolation (unit tests for example), the second one enables more complete integration testing scenarios that could include some more components in the stack such as model binders or message handlers for example.   The HttpClient can receive a HttpMessageHandler as argument in one of its constructors. public class HttpClient : HttpMessageInvoker { public HttpClient(); public HttpClient(HttpMessageHandler handler); public HttpClient(HttpMessageHandler handler, bool disposeHandler); .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } For the first scenario, you can create a new HttpMessageHandler that fakes the response, which you can use in your unit test. The only requirement is that you somehow inject an HttpClient with this custom handler in the client code. public class FakeHttpMessageHandler : HttpMessageHandler { HttpResponseMessage response; public FakeHttpMessageHandler(HttpResponseMessage response) { this.response = response; } protected override Task<HttpResponseMessage> SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, System.Threading.CancellationToken cancellationToken) { var tcs = new TaskCompletionSource<HttpResponseMessage>(); tcs.SetResult(response); return tcs.Task; } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } In an unit test, you can do something like this. var fakeResponse = new HttpResponse(); var fakeHandler = new FakeHttpMessageHandler(fakeResponse); var httpClient = new HttpClient(fakeHandler); var customerService = new CustomerService(httpClient); // Do something // Asserts .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } CustomerService in this case is the class under test, and the one that receives an HttpClient initialized with our fake handler. For the second scenario in integration tests, there is a In-Memory host “System.Web.Http.HttpServer” that also derives from HttpMessageHandler and you can use with a HttpClient instance in your test. This has been discussed already in these two great posts from Pedro and Filip.

  • Lightweight .NET web development?

    - by Breck Fresen
Fellow stack overflowers, I'm currently working on a project that has a sizable amount of both client and web code. The client code is written in C# and the web piece is written in PHP. Maintaining consistency between the two worlds is becoming cumbersome, and I want consolidate the web code to .Net. The issue is that I hate web development in ASP.Net Web Forms. I want something as raw as PHP, just using C# instead. I've read a little about ASP.Net MVC, but it looks like it abstracts too much of the request logic for my liking. Does anyone know of a lightweight way to allow C# + .Net to handle web requests? Should I be looking more closely at MVC? Thanks in advance, -- Breck

  • Server Controls in ASP.NET MVC without ViewState

    - by imran_ku07
Introduction :           ASP.NET Web Forms provides a development environment just like GUI or windows application and try to hide statelessness nature of HTTP protocol. For accomplishing this target, Web Forms uses ViewState (a hidden field) to remove the gap between HTTP statelessness and GUI applications. But the problem with this technique is that ViewState size which grows quickly and also go back and forth with every request, as a result it will degrade application performance. In this article i will try to use existing ASP.NET server controls without ViewState.   Description :           When you add a server control which needs viewstate, in the presentation view in ASP.NET MVC application without a form tag, for example,            <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>            It will shows the following exception,            Control 'TextBox1' of type 'TextBox' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server             When you place this textbox inside a form tag with runat=server, this will add the following ViewState even when you disable ViewState by using EnableViewState="false"            <input type="hidden" value="/wEPDwUJMjgzMDgzOTgzZGQ6u9CwikhHEW39ObrHyLTPFSboPA==" id="__VIEWSTATE" name="__VIEWSTATE"/>             The solution to this problem is to use the RenderControl method of server control which is simply renders HTML without any ViewState hidden field.         <% TextBox txt = new TextBox();          txt.Text = "abc";          StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();          System.IO.StringWriter textwriter = new System.IO.StringWriter(sb);          HtmlTextWriter htmlwriter = new HtmlTextWriter(textwriter);          txt.RenderControl(htmlwriter);  %>        <%= sb.ToString() %>             This will render <input type="text" > without any View State. This technique become very useful when you are using rich server controls like GridView. For example, let's say you have List of Recalls in Model.Recalls, then you will show your tabular data as,     <%  GridView gv = new GridView();          gv.AutoGenerateColumns = true;          gv.DataSource = Model.Recalls;          gv.DataBind();         StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();         System.IO.StringWriter textwriter = new System.IO.StringWriter(sb);         HtmlTextWriter htmlwriter = new HtmlTextWriter(textwriter);         gv.RenderControl(htmlwriter);%>            <%= sb.ToString() %>             This code might looks odd in your presentation view. A more better approach is to create a HTML Helper method which contains the above code. Summary :        In some cases you might needs to use existing ASP.NET Web Forms server controls but also dislikes ViewState. In this article i try to solve this gap by using the RenderControl method of Control class. Hopefully you enjoyed and become ready to create HTML helpers for many of the existing server controls.

  • ASP.NET: images broken when combining URL Rewriting, asp:ImageButton and html base tag

    - by Nick G
Hi, I'm using URL Rewriting under ASP.NET 4 (using ISAPI_Rewrite) and I'm finding that that some of my images are not loading as .NET does not seem to understand I'm using an html BASE tag (pretty standard and essential when doing URL Rewriting): eg in my development environment I have: <base href='http://localhost/venuefinder/Website/'></base> and on my pages I have: <asp:ImageButton runat="server" ImageUrl="~/images/button.gif" /> On the home page of the site (http://localhost/venuefinder/Website/) this works fine, however on a page that uses URL rewriting, the image does not work: /venuefinder/Website/venues/ashton_gate_stadium/V18639/ ..as the browser is trying to load: http://localhost/images/buttons/search-button.gif instead of: http://localhost/venuefinder/Website/venues/images/buttons/search-button.gif This is happening because .NET is rendering the button as: src="../../../images/buttons/search-button.gif" ...which is incorrect. Is there any way I can correct this problem so that .NET renders the correct src attribute for the image? (without all the ../../../ etc)

  • ASP.NET Tab Controls

    - by George Stocker
I'm currently attempting to create a tabbed interface in a web application, and based on my search, there aren't any 'built in' tab controls in ASP.NET. There are some in the ASP.NET AJAX downloadable toolkit, as well as a wealth of 'pay for use' third party Tab Controls. My question is: What Tab control have you used for ASP.NET applications, and why do you use it?

  • Authenticating to Google Search Appliance using Basic HTTP auth and ASP.NET (VB)

    - by Chainlink
I've run into a snag though which has to do with authentication between the Google Search Appliance and ASP. Normally, when asking for secure pages from the search appliance, the search appliance asks for credentials, then uses these credentials to try and access the secure results. If this attempt is successful, the page shows up in the results list. Since ASP is contacting the search appliance on the client's behalf, it will need to collect credentials and pass them along to the search appliance. I have tried a couple of different documented ways of accomplishing this, but they don't seem to work. Below is the code I have tried: 'Bypass SSL since discovery.gov.mb.ca does not have valid SSL cert (NOT PRODUCTION SAFE) ServerCertificateValidationCallback = New System.Net.Security.RemoteCertificateValidationCallback(AddressOf customXertificateValidation) googleUrl = "https://removed.com" Dim rdr As New XmlTextReader(googleUrl) Dim resolver As New XmlUrlResolver() Dim myCred As New System.Net.NetworkCredential("USERNAME", "PASSWORD", Nothing) Dim credCache As New CredentialCache() credCache.Add(New Uri(googleUrl), "Basic", myCred) resolver.Credentials = credCache rdr.XmlResolver = resolver doc = New System.Xml.XPath.XPathDocument(rdr) path = doc.CreateNavigator() Private Function customXertificateValidation(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal certificate As System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Certificate, ByVal chain As System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Chain, ByVal sslPolicyErrors As Net.Security.SslPolicyErrors) As Boolean Return True End Function

  • ASP.Net validation controls

In this post I would like to continue talking about validation in ASP.Net applications. I will look into the validation controls that ASP.Net provides. You can have a look at the first post in my blog regarding validation. You will show you that we can perform all our main validation tasks without almost writing any code. We will add validation to our form by adding one or more controls. We can also display messages to the user. The controls I am going to look into are: CompareValidator CustomValidator...(read more)

  • A Custom View Engine with Dynamic View Location

    - by imran_ku07
Introduction:          One of the nice feature of ASP.NET MVC framework is its pluggability. This means you can completely replace the default view engine(s) with a custom one. One of the reason for using a custom view engine is to change the default views location and sometimes you need to change the views location at run-time. For doing this, you can extend the default view engine(s) and then change the default views location variables at run-time.  But, you cannot directly change the default views location variables at run-time because they are static and shared among all requests. In this article, I will show you how you can dynamically change the views location without changing the default views location variables at run-time.       Description:           Let's say you need to synchronize the views location with controller name and controller namespace. So, instead of searching to the default views location(Views/ControllerName/ViewName) to locate views, this(these) custom view engine(s) will search in the Views/ControllerNameSpace/ControllerName/ViewName folder to locate views.           First of all create a sample ASP.NET MVC 3 application and then add these custom view engines to your application,   public class MyRazorViewEngine : RazorViewEngine { public MyRazorViewEngine() : base() { AreaViewLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.cshtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.vbhtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.cshtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.vbhtml" }; AreaMasterLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.cshtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.vbhtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.cshtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.vbhtml" }; AreaPartialViewLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.cshtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.vbhtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.cshtml", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.vbhtml" }; ViewLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.cshtml", "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.vbhtml", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.cshtml", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.vbhtml" }; MasterLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.cshtml", "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.vbhtml", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.cshtml", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.vbhtml" }; PartialViewLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.cshtml", "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.vbhtml", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.cshtml", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.vbhtml" }; } protected override IView CreatePartialView(ControllerContext controllerContext, string partialPath) { var nameSpace = controllerContext.Controller.GetType().Namespace; return base.CreatePartialView(controllerContext, partialPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace)); } protected override IView CreateView(ControllerContext controllerContext, string viewPath, string masterPath) { var nameSpace = controllerContext.Controller.GetType().Namespace; return base.CreateView(controllerContext, viewPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace), masterPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace)); } protected override bool FileExists(ControllerContext controllerContext, string virtualPath) { var nameSpace = controllerContext.Controller.GetType().Namespace; return base.FileExists(controllerContext, virtualPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace)); } } public class MyWebFormViewEngine : WebFormViewEngine { public MyWebFormViewEngine() : base() { MasterLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.master", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.master" }; AreaMasterLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.master", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.master", }; ViewLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.aspx", "~/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.ascx", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.aspx", "~/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.ascx" }; AreaViewLocationFormats = new[] { "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.aspx", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/{1}/{0}.ascx", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.aspx", "~/Areas/{2}/Views/%1/Shared/{0}.ascx", }; PartialViewLocationFormats = ViewLocationFormats; AreaPartialViewLocationFormats = AreaViewLocationFormats; } protected override IView CreatePartialView(ControllerContext controllerContext, string partialPath) { var nameSpace = controllerContext.Controller.GetType().Namespace; return base.CreatePartialView(controllerContext, partialPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace)); } protected override IView CreateView(ControllerContext controllerContext, string viewPath, string masterPath) { var nameSpace = controllerContext.Controller.GetType().Namespace; return base.CreateView(controllerContext, viewPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace), masterPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace)); } protected override bool FileExists(ControllerContext controllerContext, string virtualPath) { var nameSpace = controllerContext.Controller.GetType().Namespace; return base.FileExists(controllerContext, virtualPath.Replace("%1", nameSpace)); } }             Here, I am extending the RazorViewEngine and WebFormViewEngine class and then appending /%1 in each views location variable, so that we can replace /%1 at run-time. I am also overriding the FileExists, CreateView and CreatePartialView methods. In each of these method implementation, I am replacing /%1 with controller namespace. Now, just register these view engines in Application_Start method in Global.asax.cs file,   protected void Application_Start() { ViewEngines.Engines.Clear(); ViewEngines.Engines.Add(new MyRazorViewEngine()); ViewEngines.Engines.Add(new MyWebFormViewEngine()); ................................................ ................................................ }             Now just create a controller and put this controller's view inside Views/ControllerNameSpace/ControllerName folder and then run this application. You will find that everything works just fine.       Summary:          ASP.NET MVC uses convention over configuration to locate views. For many applications this convention to locate views is acceptable. But sometimes you may need to locate views at run-time. In this article, I showed you how you can dynamically locate your views by using a custom view engine. I am also attaching a sample application. Hopefully you will enjoy this article too. - by deepasundarip
Hi, I installed uppercut in my system successfully, Then i installed cc.net, for automated build revision number, I followed all the steps in the following site, http://ferventcoder.com/archive/2009/05/21/uppercut---automated-builds---cruisecontrol.net-integration.aspx The same config code in that site i used to integrate but still i could find the following error when i run the cc.net svn folder Unable to execute file [D:\CodeBuild\abc\svn]. The file may not exist or may not be executable. --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified.. Is there any different procedure to install cc.net?? I just run the exe and it said set virtual memory manually, When does the build and revision number increase?? Please help me......... I m n trouble
