EDIT I tried checking and repairing the partition using gparted only to get this error message: ERROR: Filesystem check failed! ERROR: 264 clusters are referenced multiple times. NTFS is inconsistent. Run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot it TWICE! The usage of the /f parameter is very IMPORTANT! No modification was and will be made to NTFS by this software until it gets repaired. I don't have windows installed, how can I run chkdsk /f from ubuntu?

  • Why does Unity3D crash in VirtualBox?

    I'm running Unity3D in a virtual instance of Windows, using the Virtual Box software on Linux. I have guest additions installed with DirectX support. I've tried using Windows XP SP3 32-bit, and Windows 7 64bit. My host is Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. I installed and registered Unity on both. It loads up fine, and then crashes my entire VirtualBox instance (equivalent of a computer shutting off with no warning).

  • SQL SERVER – Detect Virtual Log Files (VLF) in LDF

    In one of the recent training engagements, I was asked if it true that there are multiple small log files in the large log file (LDF). I found this question very interesting as the answer is yes. Multiple small Virtual Log Files commonly known as VLFs together make an LDF file. The writing of the VLF is sequential and resulting in the writing of the LDF file is sequential as well. This leads to another talk that one does not need more than one log file in most cases. However, in short, you can use following DBCC command to know how many Virtual Log Files or VLFs are present in your log file. DBCC LOGINFO You can find the result of above query to something as displayed in following image. You can see the column which is marked as 2 which means it is active VLF and the one with 0 which is inactive VLF.     Since 11gR2, OUD can be used natively as a OAM Identity Store. Select  "OUD: Oracle Unified Directory" as Store Type as described here. As an alternate solution, you can also configure OVD as Identity Store with OAM and then configure LDAP adapter for OVD with OUD details.Configuring Identity store for OAM is documented here. Choose "OVD: Oracle Virtual Directory" as store type and provide store details as per the document. Configuring LDAP adapter for OVD is documented here. Provide your OUD details required as per the document.

  • Script to recursively grep data from certain files in the directory

    I am making a simple shell script which will minimize the time I spend in searching all directories under a parent directory and grep some things inside some files. Here's my script. #!/bin/sh MainDir=/var/opt/database/1227-1239/ cd "$MainDir" for dir in $(ls); do grep -i "STAGE,te_start_seq Starting" "$dir"/his_file | tail -1 >> /home/xtee/sst-logs.out if [ -f "$dir"/sysconfig.out]; then grep -A 1 "Drive Model" "$dir"/sysconfig.out | tail -1 >> /home/xtee/sst-logs.out else grep -m 1 "Physical memory size" "$dir"/node0/setupsys.out | tail -1 >> /home/xtee/sst-logs.out fi done The script is supposed to grep the string STAGE,te_start_seq Starting under the file his_file then dump it sst-logs.out which it does. My problem though is the part in the if statement. The script should check the current directory for sysconfig.out, grep drive model and dump it to sst-logs.out if it exists, otherwise, change directory to node0 then grep physical memory size from setupsys.out and dump it to sst-logs.out. My problem is, it seems the if then else statement seems not to work as it doesn`t dump any data at all but if i execute grep manually, i do have data. What is wrong with my shell script? Is there any more efficient way in doing this?

  • How to unmount a virtual cd/dvd in Ubuntu 11.1o

    I'm new to Ubuntu 11.10 and have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I don't now how but in downloading and fooling around with a virtual cd/dvd program I seem to have inadvertently installed it. I had to shut down my computer for a while and when I re booted it all my files and my setup was gone. I have a brand new 11.10 setup with all the programs installed that I originally had but no files or bookmarks etc.. I'm not sure, but I think I'm running in a virtual cd/dvd. I don't know how to determine if I am or not and can't boot up in my original setup. Can anyone help me?

  • Why didn't virtual ubuntu halts clearly?

    I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on Oracle Virtual Box 4.2.4 under Windows 7 x64. To stop guest system I often use halt command which works fine on physical machines. But it looks hanging on virtual ubunty. After halt it starts shutting down, Ubuntu logo appears with dots below flashing. After some cycles it just stops. VM manager does not feel machine is gone, so I need to power off it. P.S. The system stops Ok if I shutdown it via GUI.

I need different addresses to go to their respective folders. Can someone please give me better instructions on how to set that up using webmin? The approach in this link of Compizconfig Grid, which worked in my previous laptop where Ubuntu was not a virtual machine, does not work anymore. I set some shortcut, but no action is launched... Does anyone know why? The major functionality I need from Grid is tiling windows to left/right side of the screen... Does anyone know any alternative?

  • How to Organize Subdirectories? [closed]

    I am working on my first major (several hundred pages) website design and development project. I want to create subdirectories for each of the website's categories, which in turn have their own subdirectories for easy user navigation. Example: website.com/directory. I am aware that by placing an index.html file within each directory, the browser automatically detects and navigates to that page, but that seems like a messy solution (having multiple index.html files, albeit in distinct folders), and I cannot imagine everyone does that. So my question is...how do you properly organize and use subdirectories?

  • SteamCMD can't add files to my home directory

    I'm trying to clean up the administration of some game servers I run on a Ubuntu box, part of which has been finally setting permissions properly so I can run the Steam console tool that controls updates and such. I had been running it as root using sudo, but I changed the permissions so that I can start it as a regular user rather than root. That bit seems to work fine, but now when SteamCMD actually starts, it errors with the following output ./steam.sh: line 24: /home/angleosaxon/.steampid: Permission denied Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1334262703) SteamUpdater: Error: Couldn't create directory /home/angleosaxon/Steam/package, got error 13 [ 0%] Download complete. [----] Verifying installation... unlinked 0 orphaned pipes [----] !!! Fatal Error: Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0xbfa7cfa0) failed with error 1: Failed to open logfile /home/angleosaxon/Steam/steam.log Leaving aside the question of why it wants to add this information to my home directory, why is it getting access denied errors? As I understand it, since it's being run by my account, it operates with my permissions, so it should be able to read/write from my home directory, shouldn't it? This is the command I'm using to run it: /opt/steamcmd/steam.sh "+login UserAccount \"This is not my actual password.\"" +force_install_dir $ServerDir "+app_update 215360 validate" +quit

  • Visual Studio Load Tests Virtual Users Simulation

    Hello, I'm currently working on writing a load testing application that takes advantage of Load Test using Visual Studio 2010. The load test will simulate 20 users on the same machine, and I need some data to be shared in-memory between all simulated users. I was suprised I couldn't find documentation answering the following question: What seperates each virtual user's running context from the other? Does each virtual user runs the tests in its own process? Maybe in its own app domain? Or just on its own thread? I need to know because if each user is running tests in its own process then all the in-memory cache isn't shared and is created for each user instead of one time for all of them, which is bad for me.

  • Connect to a VPN from a Virtual Machine

    I am running an Ubuntu ditro inside a VMWare virtual machine with a bridged connection on a windows 7 host. What I am trying to do is to have the virtual machine connect to a VPN, but I'm not having much success. At first, the system was using wicd, but I replaced it with network-manager who's supposed to have OpenVPN support. The problem is, even tho i've purged the wicd installation, there're connections shown in the network manager, and still, I'm able to access the net. I've also added the openvpn data in the network manager tab, but it's shown as never used. PS: when I try to stop and start the NetworkManager service, an error message pops up telling me that there's not such a service, but apt-get tells me i've already installed it...
