• Wikipedia API: list=alllinks confusion

  I'm doing a research project for the summer and I've got to use get some data from Wikipedia, store it and then do some analysis on it. I'm using the Wikipedia API to gather the data and I've got that down pretty well. What my questions is in regards to the links-alllinks option in the API doc here After reading the description, both there and in the API itself (it's down and bit and I can't link directly to the section), I think I understand what it's supposed to return. However when I ran a query it gave me back something I didn't expect. Here's the query I ran: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&titles=google&rvprop=ids|timestamp|user|comment|content&rvlimit=1&list=alllinks&alunique&allimit=40&format=xml Which in essence says: Get the last revision of the Google page, include the id, timestamp, user, comment and content of each revision, and return it in XML format. The allinks (I thought) should give me back a list of wikipedia pages which point to the google page (In this case the first 40 unique ones). No nearly what I thought I'd get. I've done a fair bit of searching but I can't seem to find a direct answer to my question. What should the list=alllinks option return? • NSXMLParser & memory leaks

  Hi, I am parsing an XML file using a custom class that instanciates & uses NSXMLParser. On the first call everything is fine but on the second, third and later calls Instruments show tens of memory leaks on certain lines inside didEndElement, didEndElement and foundCharacters functions. I googled it and found some people having this issue, but I didn't find anything that could really help me. Then I these part are arranged in columns and the need for these columns look about the same height. Another condition: Tags you can break (I mean that if the tag "p" contains a lot of text, it can be divided into two parts, to bring in another column). I think this is a monumental task, I shall be grateful for any help. I understand that XSLT is not typography tool. • c++ stl priority queue insert bad_alloc exception

  Hi, I am working on a query processor that reads in long lists of document id's from memory and looks for matching id's. When it finds one, it creates a DOC struct containing the docid (an int) and the document's rank (a double) and pushes it on to a priority queue. My problem is that when the word(s) searched for has a long list, when I try to push the DOC on to the queue, I get the following exception: Unhandled exception at 0x7c812afb in QueryProcessor.exe: Microsoft C++ exception: std::bad_alloc at memory location 0x0012ee88.. When the word has a short list, it works fine. I tried pushing DOC's onto the queue in several places in my code, and they all work until a certain line; after that, I get the above error. I am completely at a loss as to what is wrong because the longest list read in is less than 1 MB and I free all memory that I allocate. Why should there suddenly be a bad_alloc exception when I try to push a DOC onto a queue that has a capacity to hold it (I used a vector with enough space reserved as the underlying data structure for the priority queue)? I know that questions like this are almost impossible to answer without seeing all the code, but it's too long to post here. I'm putting as much as I can and am anxiously hoping that someone can give me an answer, because I am at my wits' end. The NextGEQ function is too long to put here, but it reads a list of compressed blocks of docids block by block. That is, if it sees that the lastdocid in the block (in a separate list) is larger than the docid passed in, it decompresses the block and searches until it finds the right one. If it sees that it was already decompressed, it just searches. Below, when I call the function the first time, it decompresses a block and finds the docid; the push onto the queue after that works. • Using getters/setters in Java

  I'm having some trouble with the idea of accessing variables from other classes. I had a post here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3011642/having-access-to-a-private-variable-from-other-classes-in-java where I got some useful information, and thought an example would be better show it, and ask a separate question as well. I have a form that I can input data to, and it has a List variable. I didn't make it static at first, but I thought if I needed to get the total size from another class, then I wouldn't create an instance of that class in order to use the function to getTotalContacts. I basically want to update my status bar with the total number of contacts that are in my list. One of the members said in the above post to use the original Foo member to get the contacts, but I'm not sure how that works in this case. Any thoughts would be appreciated. • SocketChannel in Java sends data, but it doesn't get to destination application

  Hi Everybody, I'm suffering a lot to create a simple ChatServer in Java, using the NIO libraries. Wonder if someone could help me. I am doing that by using SocketChannel and Selector to handle multiple clients in a single thread. The problem is: I am able to accept new connections and get it's data, but when I try to send data back, the SocketChannel simply doesn't work. In the method write(), it returns a integer that is the same size of the data i'm passing to it, but the client never receives that data. Strangely, when I close the server application, the client receives the data. It's like the socketchannel maintains a buffer, and it only get flushed when I close the application. Here are some more details, to give you more information to help. So, a client makes a TCP connection to the server, and once it gets accepted, it sends data to the server following a simply text protocol, informing his id and asking to get registrated to the server. I handle this in the method processIncomingDataFromNewClient(key). I'm also keeping a map of clients and its connections in a data structure similar to a hashtable. I? doing that because I need to recover a client Id from a connection and a connection from a client Id. This is can be shown in: clientsMap.getClient(key). But the problem itself resides in the method processIncomingDataFromNewClient(key). There, I simply read the data that the client sent to me, validate it, and if it's ok, I send a message back to the client to tell that it is connected to the chat server. So, the data never gets to it. When I close the server application, though, all the data appears in the client. I wonder why. It is important to say that the client is in C and the server JAVA, and I'm running both in the same machine, an Ubuntu Guest in virtualbox under windows. I also run both under windows host and under linuxes hosts, and keep getting the same strange problem. I'm sorry for the great lenght of this question, but I already searched a lot of places for an answer, found a lot of tutorials and questions, including here at StackOverflow, but coundn't find a reasonable explanation. I am really not liking this Java NIO, and i saw a lot of people complaining about it too. • C++ assignment operators dynamic arrays

  First off i know the multiplying part is wrong but i have some questions about the code. 1. When i am overloading my operator+ i print out the matrix using cout << *this then right after i return *this and when i do a+b on matix a and matix b it doesnt give me the same thing this is very confusing. 2. When i make matrix c down in my main i cant use my default constructor for some reason because when i go to set it = using my assignment operator overloaded function it gives me an error saying "expression must be a modifiable value. although using my constructor that sets the row and column numbers is the same as my default constructor using (0,0). 3. When I'm inserting a word and it's correct, the whole window should reload, and JButtons containing letters should be repainted with different style. But somehow repaint() method for the game panel (in Main method) doesn't affect it at all. What am I doing wrong ?   I'm working throurgh a project with pcap and wireless. Following an example posted in response to oe of my earlier questions I am trying to extract the mac addresses from wireless frames. I have created structures for the radiotap header and a basic management frame. For some reason when it comes to trying to output the mac addresses I am printing out the wrong data. When I compare to wireshark I don't see why the radio tap data is printing out correctly but the mac addresses are not. I don't see any additional padding in the hex dump that wireshark displays when i look at the packets and compare the packets that I have captured. I am somewhat famialar with c but not an expert so maybe I am not using the pointers and structures properly could someone help show me what I am doing wrong? • jQueryUI Tabs: how too keep them on a single line?

  Hi all, Maybe my question is wired: is there a way to prevent jQueryUI tabs from floating if browser window is too small? Explanation: I have a simple horizontal tab using CSS only. The content is floating but not the tabs. Important: there is no width set manually, the current width is taken automatically. • Client no longer getting data from Web Service after introducing targetNamespace in XSD

  Sorry if there is way too much info in this post – there’s a load of story before I get to the actual problem. I thought I‘d include everything that might be relevant as I don’t have much clue what is wrong. I had a working web service and client (both written with VS 2008 in C#) for passing product data to an e-commerce site. The XSD started like this: <xs:schema id="Ecommerce" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns:mstns="http://tempuri.org/Ecommerce.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <xs:element name="eur"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element ref="sec" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/> </xs:sequence> etc Here’s a sample document sent from client to service: <eur xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" class="ECommerce_WebService" type="product" method="GetLastDateSent" chunk_no="1" total_chunks="1" date_stamp="2010-03-10T17:16:34.523" version="1.1"> <sec guid="BFBACB3C-4C17-4786-ACCF-96BFDBF32DA5" company_name="Company" version="1.1"> <data /> </sec> </eur> Then, I had to give the service a targetNamespace. Actually I don’t know if I “had” to set it, but I added (to the same VS project) some code to act as a client to a completely unrelated service (which also had no namespace), and the project would not build until I gave my service a namespace. Now the project builds again. I found the client needed some modification after this. The client uses a SQL stored procedure to generate the XML. This is then de-serialised into an object of the correct type for the service’s “get_data” method. The object’s type used to be “eur” but after updating the web reference to the service, it became “get_dataEur”. And sure enough the parent element in the XML had to be changed to “get_dataEur” to be accepted. Then bizarrely I also had to put the xmlns attribute containing my namespace on the “sec” element (the immediate child of the parent element) rather than the parent element. I wanted the foreach ($_POST as &$value) and foreach ($_GET as &$value) loops to loop through the received info from the user submission and strip/remove all malicious input. I am calling a function called clean on the input first to achieve the objective as stated above. This function will process each of the input, whether individual field values or even arrays and allow only tags and remove everything else. The rest of it is obvious. Once this happens, the new/cleaned values will be processed by the fn_register() function and based on the values returned after the validation, we get the corresponding errors or NULL values (as applicable). So here's my questions: 1. This pretty much makes me feel secure as I am forcing the user to correct malicious data and won't process the final data unless the errors are corrected. Am I correct? Does the method that I follow guarantee the speed (as I am using lots of functions and their corresponding calls)? The fields of a form differ and the minimum number of fields I may have at any given point of time in any form may be 3 and can go upto as high as 100 (or even more, I am not sure as the website is still being developed). Will having 100's of fields and their validation in the above way, reduce the speed of application (say upto half a million users are accessing the website at the same time?). What can I do to improve the speed and reduce function calls (if possible)? 3, Can I do something to improve the current ways of validation? I am holding off object oriented approach and using FILTERS in PHP for the later. So please, I request you all to suggest me way to improve/tweak the current ways and suggest me if the script is vulnerable or safe enough to be used in a Live production environment. • Using javascript to limit survey choices to three unique values

  I'm required to use a limited survey application, and have to adapt the provided code to meet more advanced functionality. I need to create a weighted ranking question, so users can select their top three choices and the data will go into the survey application and be accessible in the survey reports. The application only supports 2 types of questions (text fill & multiple choice) but I can alter the code, as long as it still sends the form data back to the survey application. The code is set up so it will show a drop-down menu of 0-3 for each option. Now I want to limit the user's choices so they can only select one "1" "2" or "3", three choices total. Ideally, if the user already had "2" selected for one option and they tried to select it for another option, it would set the first "2" as "0" or blank. Is this possible to do with javascript? If so, does anyone know of a site that might show code like this, or provide similar enough examples that I could adapt it? • Cumulative +1/-1 Cointoss crashes on 1000 iterations. Please advise; c++ boost random libraries

  following some former advice Multithreaded application, am I doing it right? I think I have a threadsafe number generator using boost, but my program crashes when I input 1000 iterations. The output .csv file when graphed looks right, but I'm not sure why it's crashing. It's using _beginthread, and everyone is telling me I should use the more (convoluted) _beingthreadex, which I'm not familiar with. If someone could recommend an example, I would greatly appreciate it. • Why does C qicksort function implementation works much slower (tape comparations, tape swapping) than bobble sort function?

  I'm going to implement a toy tape "mainframe" for a students, showing the quickness of "quicksort" class functions (recursive or not, does not really matters, due to the slow hardware, and well known stack reversal techniques) comparatively to the "bubblesort" function class, so, while I'm clear about the hardware implementation ans controllers, i guessed that quicksort function is much faster that other ones in terms of sequence, order and comparation distance (it is much faster to rewind the tape from the middle than from the very end, because of different speed of rewind). Unfortunately, this is not the true, this simple "bubble" code shows great improvements comparatively to the "quicksort" functions in terms of comparison distances, direction and number of comparisons and writes. So I have 3 questions: Does I have mistaken in my implememtation of quicksort function? Does I have mistaken in my implememtation of bubblesoft function? If not, why the "bubblesort" function is works much faster in (comparison and write operations) than "quicksort" function?   Is it possible via script/tool to generate authomatically many delete statements based on the tables fk relations, using Oracle PL/SQL? In example: I have the table: CHICKEN (CHICKEN_CODE NUMBER) and there are 30 tables with fk references to its CHICKEN_CODE that I need to delete; there are also other 150 tables foreign-key-linked to that 30 tables that I need to delete first.
