  • Static member class - declare class private and class member package-private?

    Consider you have the following class public class OuterClass { ... private static class InnerClass { int foo; int bar; } } I think I've read somewhere (but not the official Java Tutorial) that if I would declare the static member classes attributes private, the compiler had to generate some sort of accessor methods so that the outer class can actually access the static member class's (which is effectively a package-private top level class) attributes. Any ideas on that?

My questions are: Will this execution order be different when I porting my program to different compiler (gcc or armcc), or different platform? What stuff does Standard C Library initialization do? So far I know setlocale() is a must. Is it safe to call standard C functions inside C++ constructor of global variables?

  • Downside to including headers in every source file (Objective-C)

    I'm currently including my AppDelegate.h and all of my category headers into every one of my source files using the MyApp_Prefix.pch prefix header, instead of manually #importing them only where they are used. The category methods and lots of compiler #define's in my app delegate are used in lots of places in my code. Is there any down side to this? Is it just that compilation will take longer?

    In the spirit of undefined behavior associated with sequence points such as “x = ++x” is it really undefined?, how does one get the compiler to complain about such code? Specifically, I am using Visual Studio 2010 and Xcode 4.3.1, the latter for an OSX app, and neither warned me about this. I even cranked up the warnings on VS2010 to "all", and it happily compiled this. (For the record, VS2010's version added 1 to the variable where Xcode's version kept the variable unchanged.)

  • High CPU usage by 'svchost.exe' and 'coreServiceShell.exe'

    I am having a laptop running on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Since past few days, my laptop is facing a serious problem. Whenever I connect to Internet, either svchost.exe or coreServiceShell.exe or both hog the CPU. The coreServiceShell.exe consumes a lot of RAM also. Going into the details, I found that high CPU usage of svchost.exe is caused by Network Location Awareness service. And the high CPU usage of coreServiceShell.exe is caused by Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2012. That kind'a makes me think that Trend Micro may be the root of the problem. After further testing, I found that if I use IE or Firefox to browse the Internet, immediately after connecting to Internet, things are normal. See and But if I use Google Chrome, the coreServiceShell.exe hogs both CPU and RAM. At this point, if I disconnect the Internet, the CPU and RAM usage by coreServiceShell.exe continues to be high till I close the Chrome. Also, when I close the Chrome, while Internet is connected, svchost.exe continues to hog CPU but coreServiceShell.exe leaves the race. That makes think that Chrome is the root of the problem, but again, tracing coreServiceShell.exe takes me back to Trend Micro Internet Security. Stopping the Protection by the Trend Micro Internet Security doesn't help either (I am not able to stop its services though). I have updated the Chrome, but no help. I just can't figure out who is the culprit. I can't do without the Google Chrome (of course, by not using it) because of its immensely useful and indispensable features both during browsing and development. Secondly, I can't uninstall the Trend Micro Internet security Suite since it still has few months before it expires and is proving me reliable protection. What could be the cause of the problem and what can I do to resolve this? Thanks in advance

  • DNS Server address configured inside Router not working

    Well, I have an ISP router in which I have configured DNS Servers to use (Primary & Secondary) like Google DNS. It works just fine. But now I have setup a computer with DNS server (Simple DNS Plus). I got it working by settings my internal DNS Server IP Address in computer. i.e. 192.168.1.3 So, instead of settings my internal DNS IP Address in every computer in my network, I want to setup DNS Server into my router. So on every DHCP request, computer get DNS Server to use. So I configured it like this: Primary DNS: 192.168.1.3 Secondry DNS: (left blank) After applying and DNS Requests stop resolving. But strange part is DNS request does goes to DNS Server but maybe not returned back, because all DNS request were available in cache logs. I don't know why this is not working, let me know if you have any solution or wordaround for this. Thanks!   • How to fix Firefox Blue Screen of Death?

    I am running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox v3.6.2 and have an issue with Firefox causing the Blue Screen of Death. If I run in Windows safe mode, it does not occur, but running normally, it seems my firefox profile is going bad and results in certain web pages causing the BSOD. For example, presently, if I visit ebay.com, it gets BSOD. Before it was happening on google.com, but IT removed my Firefox profile and that seemed to fix the Google failure. However, now it has started occurring on ebay. I turned off all extensions and it still occurs. I'd like to fix my system so this does not occur. The IT folks don't seem to be able to solve this, so I am trying to fix it on my own. The BSOD is about something like (from memory) IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. Why would safe mode avoid the issue and what does that tell us about the probable cause? I don't want to have to keep deleting my profile, so I'd like to find out the cause of the corruption.

  • Windows 7 search doesn’t find text strings

    I’m not able to find any text strings starting not from the beginning of word in filename or in file content using Windows 7 search. My Windows 7 search configuration: Let’s say I’m searching for a documents containing word “content”. I’m able to find those documents when searching for “content”, “conte”, “con” (as long as the string includes the beginning of the word). "content" "con" But if I search for “ontent”, “tent” or any other combination that doesn’t include the beginning of the word, Windows search won't find it. I've tried other indexing/searching software such as Copernic Desktop search, Google desktop search. Those programs also weren’t able to find part of the word starting from the middle of the word. For instance, it finds “conte”, but doesn’t find “onte”. Finds “conte” Doesn’t find “onte” I got the same problem using Copernic desktop search. On the other hand, when I use non-indexing content search software such as Agent Ransack or FileSeek, I get the same results when searching for “conte” or “onte”: “conte” “onte” Why do all pre-indexing content search applications (Windows search, Google desktop, Copernic desktop search) fail to search for a string inside the words? Why do non-indexing applications find text strings wherever they are: in the beginning, middle or end of the word? I’ve tried wildcards and other constructions with no luck. *onte onte “onte” content:onte content:onte content:~onte All these searched doesn’t find the word “content”. How can I make Windows search find strings from any part of words? Could you try these searches and see if they work for you? Or is this normal behavior? Thank you.     I am trying to set up my web server so that I can server multiple Ghost.org blogs. I am stuck in one crucial step. To be honest, my knowledge in servers is not so big, so I request your help to do this. Basically, a tutorial I'm reading suggests I set up a VirtualHost in this way: NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName your-url.com ServerAlias www.your-url.com ProxyRequests off ProxyPass / http://127.0.0.1:2368/ ProxyPassReverse / http:/127.0.0.1:2368/ </VirtualHost> So I have gone to the Virtual site on Virtualmin to try to add everything as is. Services Configure Website Edit Directives The problem is, the previous page (Services Configure website) says I can't edit the port: This Apache virtual host belongs to the Virtualmin server linguist.andyibanez.com, so the address, port, base directory and hostname cannot be changed here. And whenever I try to add the ProxyRequests off (the other two can be added fine) directive in Edit Directives manually, I'm simply told that the directive can't be there. So what is the right way to "add" the last three directives in the VirtualHost above to my sub server? Maybe I'm missing a menu item that will help me with this? I request your help as I have looked for a while, Google keeps thinking I want to serve Webmin via Apache when I google "Set up Virtualmin proxypass", and I have no clue what to do.

  • Apache Reverse Proxy not working inside a VirtualHost running a Mono Web Application

    I have a mono web application running with this virtual host below. It is running on Apache 2.2.20 / Ubuntu 11.10. I tried to add a reverse proxy inside this virtualhost so I can make asynchronous or AJAX type calls back to this same domain. My asynchronous requests would have problems in many browsers calling services that are on another domain (cross domain requests problem). I am wanting to do reverse proxy calls to this other service using http://www.whatever.com/monkey/. So, I added the directive and top directive to try to make this work. It is weird though...nothing I do seems to have any effect. I can put the exact same markup in my default website virtualhost file and it works great. What is the deal?
