• Login authentication vanished from MongoDB install

  A few months ago I enabled password protection on my MongoDB install. Today I ran the Mongo client and forgot to use my login details. Instead of rejecting nearly everything I try to do from the shell, like it should, I had complete access to all the databases and collections. Fortunately this instance is only running a few test apps, so I quickly shutdown the MongoD instance until I figure this out. Has anybody ever seen this kind of behavior before and knows what is going on? The MongoD instance is running on a Linux VM hosted by Azure. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps Azure restored an old copy of the VM, but I received no E-mails to that effect and everything else on the server seems to be proper, including new daemon processes that I added after I enabled password protection on MongoD.

• Android - Efficient way to draw tiles in OpenGL ES

  Hi, I am trying to write efficient code to render a tile based map in android. I load for each tile the corresponding bitmap (just one time) and then create the according tiles. I have designed a class to do this: public class VertexQuad { private float[] mCoordArr; private float[] mColArr; private float[] mTexCoordArr; private int mTextureName; private static short mCounter = 0; private short mIndex; As you can see, each tile has it's x,y location, a color array, texture coordinates and a texture name. Now, I want to render all my created tiles. To reduce the openGL api calls (I read somewhere that the state changes are costly and therefore I want to keep them to a minimum), I first want to hand ALL the coordinate-arrays, color-arrays and texture-coordinates over to OpenGL. After that I run two for loops. The first one iterates over the textures and binds the texture. The second for loop iterates over all Tiles and puts all tiles with the corresponding texture into an IndexBuffer. After the second for loop has finished, I call gl.gl_drawElements() whith the corresponding index buffer, to draw all tiles with the texture associated. For the next texture I do the same again. Now I run into some problems: Allocating and filling the FloatBuffers at the start of each rendering cycle costs very much time. I just run a test, where i wanted to put 400 coordinates into a FloatBuffer which took me about 200ms. My questions now are: Is there a better way, handling the coordinate and color structures? How is this correctly done, this is obviously not the optimal way? ;) thanks in advance, regards Markus

I do a lot of development work, i havent got a second monitor to test it yes but i know there can be problems. I would like to have a monitor connected on my VGA and on my HDMI so two external monitors and notebooks monitor. Would this be viable ?

• BizTalk 2009 - How do I do t"HAT"?

  In my previous life working with BizTalk Server 2004, I came to view HAT (the Health and Activity Tracking tool) as one of my first ports of call in the case of problems with any of our BizTalk solutions.  When you move to BizTalk Server 2009 it is quickly apparent that HAT is no longer with us. HAT was useful in BizTalk 2004 mainly as it provided developers and administrators with a number of useful queries and views of what was going on inside BizTalk at runtime; when and what type of messages were received and sent, what messages had been suspended, what orchestration were running or suspended, you could even follow the process flow of a message or orchestration to see what was going on. With BizTalk Server 2009 much of the functionality of HAT can now be found in the BizTalk Administration console.  Select a BizTalk Group and you will be shown the Group Hub Overview page.  This provides a number of default queries that replicate some of those found in the old HAT. You can also use the Group Hub page to create new queries.  These can then be saved and loaded in other Group Hub instances - useful for creating queries in development for later use in Test, Psuedo-Live and Live environments. In the next few posts I am going to look at some of the common queries that we might miss from HAT and recreate them (or something close) using the new query option. Messages - last 100 received Messages - last 100 sent Messages - last 50 suspended Service instances - last 100 I have yet to try the updated Admin-HAT-Console in anger, and after using old-HAT for so long it may take some getting uesd to, but so far I would say that moving the HAT functionality into the BizTalk Administration console was probably the correct way to go.  Having one tool as the place to look for the combined functionality on offer certainly seems to be the sensible option.

• TFTP PUT Failing Across Hosts

  I have a TFTP server installed on a CentOS host. /etc/xinetd.d/tftp: service tftp { disable = no socket_type = dgram protocol = udp wait = yes user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = -c -s /var/lib/tftpboot per_source = 11 cps = 100 2 flags = IPv4 } If I try to PUT a file from a remote host to the host running the TFTP server, I get Transfer Timed Out - however, it does create the file in /var/lib/tftpboot but the file is empty. If I tftp from the tftp server to itself (localhost) and PUT a file, it works fine. I have verified that SELinux is disabled and IPTables are turned off. I can connect from the remote hosts with no issue - just seems to be the PUT I have issue with: [root@SVR01 TEST]# tftp 10.100.2.15 tftp> status Connected to 10.100.2.15. Mode: netascii Verbose: off Tracing: off Literal: off Rexmt-interval: 5 seconds, Max-timeout: 25 seconds tftp>

• Why is math taught "backwards"? [closed]

  A friend of mine showed me a pretty practical Java example. It was a riddle. I got excited and quickly solved the problem. After it, he showed me the mathematical explanation of my solution (he proved why is it good), and it was completely clear for me. This seems like natural approach for me: solve problems, and generalize. This is very familiar to me, I do it all the time when I am programming: I write a function. When I have to write a similar function, I generalize the problem, grab the generic parts, and refactor them to a function, and solve the original problems as a specialization of the general function. At the university (or at least where I study), things work backwards. The professors shows just the highest possible level of the solutions ("cryptic" mathematical formulas). My problem is that this is too abstract for me. There is no connection of my previous knowledge (== reality in my sense), so even if I can understand it, I can't really learn it properly. Others are learning these formulas word-by-word, and get good grades, since they can write exactly the same to the test, but this is not an option for me. I am a curious person, I can learn interesting things, but I can't learn just text. My brain is for storing toughts, not strings. There are proofs for the theories, but they are also really hard to understand because of this, and in most of the cases they are omitted. What is the reason for this? I don't understand why is it a good idea to show the really high level of abstraction and then leave the practical connections (or some important ideas / practical motivations) out?

• VMware Fusion / New Machine / verify VMs?

  I just got a 15" MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM, 2.66 i7 and 500GB SSD. Very sweet and fast! My old machine was 2.66 Core 2 Duo. I used Migration Assistant to migrate my old MBP to the new. When I started VMware to run Windows and Ubuntu I got the message first This VM has been moved or copied to a new machine. Did you move or copy it? I answered Copied. Then I got the message this CPU is a different configuration than the machine that created the VM. You may get unpredictable results. I answered Open Anyway. Windows XP, Windows 7, and Ubuntu all seem to work OK, but how can I verify? Is there some form of test harness for a VM? I have had a VM degrade and become unusable with very catastrophic data loss (on Parallels...), so I am a bit paranoid. Thanks,

• Unreal 3 Editor (Unreal Tournament 3) Lifting vehicles (and spawners) using InterActors, strange collisions causing flying vehicles

  Making a VCTF map with the Unreal Tournament 3 Editor, and thus have vehicles in it. Currently I have 2 walkways next to each other (Big enough for a vehicle). One of them (A InterActor) drops down, and a grate covers the hole until the vehicle respawns. Once its respawned the InterActor Walkway lifts the vehicle up (and the grate pulls back). However what I'm finding is that the vehicle seems to collide with something when it gets near the top. (Looks something like this: ----_ where _ is the moving InterActor and - is a walkway) I created a new map to test this, and found it seems the front of the scorpion collides with the walkway in front of it, however I don't know why, it physically (in terms of how it looks in game) does not touch the walkway in front of it, but its actions look like it has. Im using InterActors, and a vehicle spawner, looking like so How do I stop this from happening? Right now everything is perfect, except the vehicle keeps flying away every time its lifted up, likes it been forced in between the "lift" and another object!

• Tomcat 5.5 - second application returs 404

  There are two versions of web application. Want to have both on one machine so I can test upgrade. If there is one of them copied to Tomcat's webapplications directory and then Tomcat is started, it works fine. So if there is only have only ...webapplicatios\ROOT\... ...webapplicatios\myApp25\... it works fine. Or when there is only ...\webapps\ROOT\... ...\webapps\myApp26\... it works fine too. If I upload both ...\webapps\ROOT and ...\webapps\myApp25 ...\webapps\myApp26 only one of the apps will work. The other one returns 404, page not found. It's running on Windows7 and I use Tomcat 5.5. Tomcat is just default installation. Any idea what to check? How to make both running both apps? Thank you in advance for any help. I'm beginner regarding TC.

  I'm very new to this ms access 2007. I have a copy of a charitable contribution template charitablecontributions.accdb. I would like to know where I can find the code of it? I opened it by holding down the shift button and double click on it and it will open to a normal ms access where you can modify the table and so. But when I just click the file: charitablecontributions.accdb it will open to a formular view where the ribbon bars are gone. I wanted to know how, how is it possible to have this formular view? Because I have a Test.mdb from 2003 and I also would like it to be open like the formular view of charitablecontributions.accdb. I'll appreciate your help. Thanks

• NAT Error Message - Usage limit exceeded

  Trying to configure a port to use for Vuze. Using the NAT/server port test, I was getting a message saying the connection timed out, the port was probably closed. I went back and made sure to open the specific port on my router, firewall, etc, but now I'm getting "NAT Error - Usage limit exceeded (173.32.41.24:0). I'm on a mac pro running leopard, trial versions of intego netbarrier and virusbarrier. Network utilities and netbarrier both claim the port is open. I've tested a bunch of other ports, but all give the same message.

• CHROOT for shell script testing

  I am looking at setting up a shell script in order to properly document and automate the process I am using to setup a few servers we have. In order to test the shell script through its different stages I was thinking a CHROOT would be ideal, since I can wipe out the "virtual root" and create it on the fly. I have never used CHROOT before, however. I was just curious what are the exact steps I would need to follow to implement this process of creating a chroot (with the basic core functions that would be needed to install apache/php/etc.)? and then destroying it?

• fsck: FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED after each check with -c, why?

  I use a script to partition and format CF cards (connected with a USB card writer) in an automated way. After the main process I check the card again with fsck. To check bad blocks I also tried the '-c' switch, but I always get a return value != 0 and the message "FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED" (see below). I get the same result when checking the very same drive several times... Does anyone know why a) the file system is modified at all and b) why this seems to happen every time I check and not only in case of an error (like bad blocks)?   I want to run some test on hardware level. My goal is to create or find a way to control one computer from another down to BIOS settings changing. For example: Master computer sends a signal for slave to restart and opens BIOS settings dialog. Master computer sends a signal to slave to change BIOS parameters and then restart. Then slave fully boots up master starts up some software on slave. Then software finishes operations cycle continues till certain conditions are met. I know that I am looking for a complex thing but mainly what I need are correct keywords because now I am being flooded by BIOS configurations tutorials. Main concerns: Is it possible without using any custom tailer chip? How can master monitor salve`s hardware activity? How to let master handled more than one slave? How what connections are needed to create this kind of setup? (cables)

• Cocos2d rotating sprite while moving with CCBezierBy

  I've done my moving actions which consists of sequences of CCBezierBy. However I would like the sprite to rotate by following the direction of the movement (like an airplane). How sould I do this with cocos2d? I've done the following to test this out. • Why is LSHW Only listing one of my two HDDs?

  I have a 120GB HDD and a 1TB HDD in the system. I installed Ubuntu Server using LVM on the 120GB. After installation I added the 1TB to the existing volume group and added 10GB to /home as a test. My understanding is that lshw is supposed to list hardware.   I'd like to dynamically add IPs to a block list via htaccess. I was hoping someone could tell me if the following will work in my case (I'm unsure how to test via localhost). My .htaccess file will have the following by default: order allow,deny allow from all IPs will be dynamically appended: Order Deny,Allow Allow from all Deny from 192.168.30.1 The way I understand this is that it is by default allow all with the optional list of deny rules. If I'm not mistaken Order Deny,Allow will look at the Deny list first, is this correct? And does the Allow from all rule need to be at the end?

• Active Directory Profile Slows down machine

  I have a strange issue with an Active Directory profile. When the user logs onto a machine with his profile, the whole machine becomes incredibly slow and unresponsive, with programs hanging and taking an age to load everything. If I log into the same machine with any other profile nothing happens. I took a look at his original profile, any start up programs, login scripts, etc and could not see what could be causing this. The machine is not running out of memory or CPU. Nothing strange is appearing in the event log and I can see nothing running under his profile which may cause this. So I created the user a new profile to test this on and exactly the same thing happens on the first login. The only thing which would of been carried across is the security groups the user is assigned to, yet I have other users with the same groups who do not experience these issues so I am now at a complete loss on where to go next!

• Accessing WindowsXP shared printer from macbook?

  My new printer is setup on WindowsXP, it works and it is configured as a shared printer. I then setup a printer from Mac OSX 10.6.3 using the approved driver from the setup CD. I browsed for the printer via the network. When I send a test page, it queues, but never prints. Its as if the driver thinks the printer is local to the mac and just never finishes printing. THe configuration shows as: smb://dragoneye/CanonMP2 Where dragoneye is the name of the Windows XP server and the CanonMP2 is the little multi-purpose printer. My other Windows' CPU can setup and print. Is this a known problem or am I missing a setting??

• How to extract jpegs from a video file using ffmpeg

  I am using C# and ffmpeg. In this scenario I have 279 individual jpegs and i have used ffmpeg to create a AVI file from these images on my client. CMD Line: -f image2 -r 10 -i "C:\000EC902F17F\img%05d.jpg" -s 352x288 -y "C:\1\test.avi" I then upload to my server. CMD Line: -i c:\1\1.avi c:\1\img-%05d.jpg I then extract jpegs from the AVI file. I get 265 jpegs back. Obviously ffmpeg is dropping these frames (most probable) when the avi is 1st created. Is there a way to 'force' to encode using ALL the images I have? Thanks. PS I did not specify any command line option other than the size of the video output. As far as I am aware if none are specified then ffmpeg automatically chooses the best ones?

• Why does my VertexDeclaration apparently not contain Position0?

  I'm trying to get my code from calling each individual draw call down to using at least a VertexBuffer, and preferably an indexBuffer, but now that I'm attempting to test my code, I'm getting the error: The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. Position0 is missing. Which makes absolutely no sense to me, as my VertexDeclaration is: public readonly static VertexDeclaration VertexDeclaration = new VertexDeclaration( new VertexElement(0, VertexElementFormat.Vector3, VertexElementUsage.Position, 0), new VertexElement(sizeof(float) * 3, VertexElementFormat.Color, VertexElementUsage.Color, 0), new VertexElement(sizeof(float) * 3 + 4, VertexElementFormat.Vector3, VertexElementUsage.Normal, 0) ); Which clearly contains the information. I am attempting to draw with the following lines: VertexBuffer vb = new VertexBuffer(GraphicsDevice, VertexPositionColorNormal.VertexDeclaration, c.VertexList.Count, BufferUsage.WriteOnly); IndexBuffer ib = new IndexBuffer(GraphicsDevice, typeof(int), c.IndexList.Count, BufferUsage.WriteOnly); vb.SetData<VertexPositionColorNormal>(c.VertexList.ToArray()); ib.SetData<int>(c.IndexList.ToArray()); GraphicsDevice.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, vb.VertexCount, 0, c.IndexList.Count/3); Where c is a Chunk class containing an 8x8x8 array of boxes. Not much else of relevance to this problem anywhere else. Note that large commented sections are from old version of drawing.
