  You know how sometimes you are on a good site and you click a button (like to submit a form) and the form doesn't go away, instead, the foreground becomes transparent and it contains a message of some kind, or another page. The message is at the forefront but the previous page is still mostly visible behind it - how do they do that? I'm assuming it's an Ajax-esque trick.

  I want to make a table that displays on a webpage, but one requirement is to make it easy to copy and paste into a spreadsheet. Normal HTML tables selection behavior is obviously different from how a spreadsheet like Excel selects -- when you select multiple rows it wraps around instead of selecting a rectangular area. Is there any way to make HTML table behave like a spreadsheet in this regard, or is the only way to resort to a Flash table or something similar?

The build works great, and deploys to the test server fine, but instead of putting it into the \Website directory that my IIS webserver is configured for, it puts the build into \Website_20100511.6 Why is the date suffixed to the directory name? Is there a way to turn that off so I can publish directly to the \Website?

  I love VI and I'm looking for a plugin of some sort that would allow me to input text in my browser (preferably Firefox or Chrome) using VI commands. It would save me an immense amount of time and at the same time when writing long emails. Can anyone think of any plugins that would allow me to do this? I was hopeful with Vimperator (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4891) but after installing it, I realized that it didn't do the one VI think I wanted to do: create or edit a text box with VI commands. It just allowed me to do Browser commands and scrolling in VI-style.

• What mail storage should I choose for our web application; IMAP, key-valud store, rdbms, ...

  I have to store e-mail messages for use with our application. I have "metadata" for all messages inside a relational database, but I don't feel comfortable keeping message content (gigabytes and terabytes of email data) inside a database. I'm currently using IMAP as a storage, but I have my doubts if I choose correctly. First of all there is a problem of uidvalidity and how to keep a permanent reference to message inside IMAP. Second, I'm not sure if this is the most robust solution in terms of backup/restore strategies, corruption of store, replication ... Positive side is that I can query IMAP using the headers because the data is mostly indexed. I don't know if key-value stores are a better approach (Casandra, Tokyo cabinet, redis). How they handle storing 1KB and 50MB of data. How they prevent corruption and when corruption or device failure happens how can I repair the store.

  There is a website I am trying to pull information from in Perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is: <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using Perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it!   Hello, I'm doing a university project, that must gather and combine data on a user provided topic. The problem I've encountered is that Google search results for many terms are polluted with low quality autogenerated pages and if I use them, I can end up with wrong facts. How is it possible to estimate the quality/trustworthiness of a page? You may think "nah, Google engineers are working on the problem for 10 years and he's asking for a solution", but if you think about it, SE must provide up-to-date content and if it marks a good page as a bad one, users will be dissatisfied. I don't have such limitations, so if the algorithm accidentally marks as bad some good pages, that wouldn't be a problem.

  Hi all. I'm getting a stuck. Suppose that I create 5 sites. For each one, I create a few sharepoint groups. So, I create a dropdownlist control to bind 5 sites and when I click on any site there, I will get sharepoint groups created on it. But I always see the dropdownlist used to bind these groups still never change. I mean it only binds a few default groups in sahrepoint everytime. The new created groups is not. And I have confusion like this web.AssociatedGroups web.Groups web.SiteGroups which one we will use this case ?   I just installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010, and it looks like there's something wrong with the standard ASP.NET server controls. When I create a basic server control, such as a TextBox, the editor underlines it in green and says (I also get no intellisense for ASP.NET controls): Element 'TextBox' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the Web.config file is missing. The web site builds fine, and the Web.config file is not missing: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="false" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> </configuration> The controls work just fine in the code-behind, and they function correctly when I run the site. Is there some configuration problem here?

  How do i make my vb.net application (running on intranet) compatible with all the browsers. The problem is all the text boxes and drop downs size varies when I browse the application in different browsers. For example when I browse in Chrome all the drop downs size changes and textbox becomes small.In IE8 all the dropdowns , comboboxes and the size of the grids gets changed. The combobox in firefox and IE 7 or later gets small in size.Is there any solution for this. And also I would like to add , the application works perfectly with IE6 only.
