• DirectX application doesn't work over Remote Desktop

  I have a WPF application which has a DirectX component within it. This component does not work over Remote Desktop--it just shows a corrupted image. The application works fine when not using Remote Desktop. In trying to debug the problem I installed the February 2010 DirectX SDK. Now, when I run the program on the computer with the SDK and Remote Desktop to it from a separate computer, the component works just fine. However the opposite does not work--trying to use the application over Remote Desktop when it is running on the computer without the DirectX SDK (it has the original problem with the corrupted image). I have already compared the loaded DLLs (using Process Explorer) between running the application on my SDK machine and non-SDK machine. They both are loading the same DLL versions. What else could be causing this behavior?

• Android: Strange out of memory issue

  I am not sure where to start to explain this one. I have a list view with a couple image buttons on each row. When you click the list row, it launches a new activity. If you review some of my other posts, I have had to build my own tabs because of an issue w/ the camera layout. The activity that gets launched for result is a map. If I click on my button to launch the image preview (load an image off the sd card) the application returns from the activity back to the listview activity to the result handler to relaunch my new activity which is nothing more than an image widget. So here is the issue, the image preview on the list view is being done w/ the cursor & listadapter. This makes it pretty simple, but I am not sure how I can put a resized (i.e. smaller bit size not pixel) image as the src for the imgbutton on the fly. So I just resized the image that came off the phone camera. The issue is that I get an out of memory error when it tries to go back and re-launch the 2nd activity. ** My question : is there a way I can build the list adapter easily row by row, where I can resize on the fly (bit wise)? - this would be preferable as I also need to make some changes to the properties of the widgets/elements in each row as I am unable to select a row w/ touch screen b/c of focus issue. (I can use roller ball). ** I know I can do an out of band resize and save of my image, but that is not really what I want to do, but some sample code for that would be nice if that is your suggestion. As soon as I disabled the image on the listview it worked fine again. • Running msiexec from a service (Local System account)

  We are working on an update system for our software. The updater should in the background as a service, and when an update is available, downloads and installs it. We need the service to install the update since the msi requires elevation to run, but some of our clients will be restricted users. The MSI is a WIX MSI and does a Major Upgrade when run. The problem is, the update does not seem to work when ran from our service. I can see msiexec run, and it returns successfully, but seems to make no changes to the system. The same command, when run from my user account works as expected. Is there some caveat to running msiexec from a Local System service? We are simply doing: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("msiexec.exe", arguments);

• MVC null model problem

  hello, i have created two create actions..one to call the create view and the other to process the create view using httppost. when i call the create view, it gets published correctly , dropdowns and all. the problem is that when i fill out the create form and click on the submit button, i get an error; Object reference not set to an instance of an object. My first thoughts are that i am passing a null model to the httppost create action.. How can i check to see if i am passing in a null model to the httppost create action? thanks

• Example map-reduce oozie program not working on CDH 4.5

  I am using Hadoop (CDH 4.5) on my mac since some time now, and do run map reduce jobs regularly. I installed oozie recently (again, CDH4.5) following instructions at: http://archive.cloudera.com/cdh4/cdh/4/oozie-3.3.2-cdh4.5.0/DG_QuickStart.html, and tried to run sample programs provided. However, it always fails with the following error. Looks like the workflow is not getting run at all. The Console URL field in the Job info is also empty. Could someone please help on this?   I tried to be the most descriptive I could. Ok, so since I've never done anything like this before, I guess it's better to ask before starting at all to just don't get the whole process wrong. We have a report that has to be called from an ASP.NET application, it could be a simple button. Through the code-behind, I gotta pass in a paramater, render the report, and don't save it anywhere, just open it to the user, as a .pdf file so he could save or print it. So please, give me links or tips, I'm reading MSDN documentation right now... If you have any suggestion on other technologies, as for the report, I'd like to hear it, but it has to be called from ASP.NET. Thanks in advance!

• Quick way to get an NSDictionary from an XML NSData representation?

  I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

  Hi We established an OpenID provider at BioSignID.com base on DotNetOpenAuth. (the authentication is base on signaturs with silverlight client...) As we tried to login to facebook we encounter a problem with IE (6,7,8). In FF and Chrome the loggin process was fine. On the server logs I can see the FB reqeust but the user somehow is NOT authenticated. In fiddler I can see that the authentication cookie not sent. I've tried to transfer the server.aspx calls to https but then I cannot make the connection between my FB account and my BioSignId account. Any ideas? Thanks

  Hi , I have a html form with the data by this post method 'form id='form1' name='form1' method='post' action='process.php'etc ' to a php page for processing into a mysql database . When the user has filled in the form BEFORE submitting it I have a button that the user can click to open up a new page to display a pdf of the data entered. The new pdf file is generated fine but what I need in it is the post data from the form. In the pdf page I can use POST to get the detail. What I need is a method of sending the data from the form to this new page without using the form tag above as it is needed for the processing of the form. What I am looking for is a js method to redirect to a new page with the post data intact Can anybody help please ? , any help is much appreciated ! Mick

I only have Firefox 3.6 as my base browser but can also move to FFox if need be. • Clean conflicting class files from Temporary ASP.NET Files

  Class file Conflicts in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\ is preventing me from building the solution. Even though I try emptying out the folder, each time Visual Studio starts the build process, it brings in the class file in to the temp folder with the same folder name. If I restart the machine or leave it overnight, project build without error. Is there anyway to tell Visual studio to delete/ignore/clean any lingering class files that could be in the temp folder? Clean solution option in VS doesn't work either. Class file in conflict are from the App_Code folder.

• iPhone Provisioning: What's it all about?

  Grepping around, I see that I'm not AT ALL alone in being... challenged... by the process of setting up an iPhone app, getting it to run, giving it my testers, and so on. I've gotten it to work. Somehow I emailed a copy or two to testers, and eventually got my li'l app into the store, and that was fine. But I can't say a really, deeply understand it! (And I don't do iDev every day. Even now my recollection of what I did is kind-of hazy.) I'm moderately capable of understanding things, if presented, well, you know, in a way I can understand. Can anyone point me to a crystal clear explanation of what provisioning actually is? I feel that if I understood it, the recipes to do it would be obvious. Thanks!

• Inspecting Lucene.NET index with Luke want to replicate NHibernate.Search view

  Hi, I am trying to put together an index using terms, which I specify as a comma separated list. I want to replicate the display in Luke as seen here: http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2009/05/03/nhibernate-search-again.aspx But my index value just shows as a single field with the comma separate list value. For example: Tags term,anotherterm When I search my index, it will return results if I search with "term" but will not return anything if I search with "anotherterm" I thought the indexing process would break the comma separate list apart into separate values but this does not seem to be the case. I've added some features to the application and in the process I had to add a new field to one of the database tables. So, there are 2 projects, one 'taac-backend-api' and another 'taac-web'; taac-backend-api has the code to grab the template, and process it, but taac-web is where the template is stores (specifically in: WEB-INF/classes/email/vendor.tpl) - I have tried everything from using springs classpath resource to using Freemarkers setClassForTemplateLoading method. I assume this would work: freemarkerConfiguration = new Configuration(); freemarkerConfiguration.setClassForTemplateLoading(this.getClass(), ""); Template freemarkerTemplate = freemarkerConfiguration.getTemplate("/email/vendor.tpl"); yet, I always get a FileNotFoundException. Can someone explain the best way to obtain a template from the classpath? Thanks.

  my build is a 3 step process. run ant to build. transfer war to server. touch reload file. I have transfered last two steps in groovy, using antbuilder. However, I am not able to run my existing ant script using groovy. Usually I run it using the following command in dos prompt: ant -Dsystem=mysystem -DsomeotherOption=true from groovy when I try to do "ant -Dsystem=mysystem -DsomeotherOption=true".execute() it gives an error saying ant is not a recognized command. How can I utilize my existing ant script in groovy?

  hello, I am building a mozilla extension that contacts a python application on a remote server to send and receive data. The python application can be used using xml-rpc from a python console.I am given the task to design a json-rpc that would contact the same application.Making the python server side has been easy which can be accesed using python console but making the mozilla extension to connect to the python serverside is what i am not understanding howto ??? how do i make cross site json rpc calls i have gone through a lot of libraries that i can find on googling but none of them seem to work i am not sure if it is because of same origin policy or my server side not able to process the data ???   I'm attempting to write a key to Registry. It works on Windows XP, but fails on Windows 7 / Vista. The code below throws a Security Exception with description "Requested registry access is not allowed." RegistryKey regKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\App_Name\\" + subKey, true); I realise that this has to do with the UAC settings, but I couldn't figure out an ideal workaround. I don't want to fork out another process, and may be don't even want to request for any credentials. Just want it to work the same way as on Windows XP. I have modified the manifest file and removed requestedExecutionLevel node. This seems to do the trick. Is there any other possible workaround, and are there any serious flaws with the "manifest" solution?

• Coinitialize error on IntraWeb using ADO

  Already asked on the Evil Exchange, but as always that was no help. I'm having this problem today: When creating a stand alone web application using IntraWeb, I get this exception in the IDE when I try to test out a session from my app in the browser: First chance exception at $7C812A6B. Exception class EOleSysError with message 'CoInitialize has not been called'. Process WebContactManager.exe (1112) If I click "continue" on the IDE exception dialog, the browser itself just shows: 200 OK ...rather than the controls on my main form. This error does not seem to occur when I replace ADO with other database components such as dbExpress or BDE. What is this error telling me, and how do I fix it? (Note I'm using the stock "VCL for the Web" IntraWeb components which come built-in with D2007). Thanks in advance for any and all help!

  As Java has had Sleep and Yield from long ago, I've found answers for that platform, but not for .Net .Net 4 includes the new Thread.Yield() static method. Previously the common way to hand over the CPU to other process was Thread.Sleep(0). Apart from Thread.Yield() returning a boolean, are there other performance, OS internals differences? For example, I'm not sure if Thread.Sleep(0) checks if other thread is ready to run before changing the current Thread to waiting state... if that's not the case, when no other threads are ready, Thread.Sleep(0) would seem rather worse that Thread.Yield().

• faking a filesystem / virtual filesystem

  I have a web service to which users upload python scripts that are run on a server. Those scripts process files that are on the server and I want them to be able to see only a certain hierarchy of the server's filesystem (best: a temporary folder on which I copy the files I want processed and the scripts). The server will ultimately be a linux based one but if a solution is also possible on Windows it would be nice to know how. What I though of is creating a user with restricted access to folders of the FS - ultimately only the folder containing the scripts and files - and launch the python interpreter using this user. Can someone give me a better alternative? as relying only on this makes me feel insecure, I would like a real sandboxing or virtual FS feature where I could run safely untrusted code.
