• Xml files stop being served by IIS6 after allowing .net to process the .xml extension

  I added a route into my site to allow for a sitemap and everything worked fine in IIS7 but once I deployed the route stopped working. Since the live server is running IIS6 I needed to put a new mapping in for .xml to be processed by .net and then it started to work. My issue though is on every other xml file on the site now. I keep getting a 404 error when trying to view xml files, but the sitemap.xml route works. Is this a routing issue or an IIS setup issue? • RESTful web services - best way to return result of an operation?

  I am designing a RESTful API and I would like to know what the most RESTful way is to return details about an operation. E.g. an operation on a resource occurs when some data is POSTed to a URL. HTTP status codes will indicate either success or failure for the operation. But apart from success/failure I need to indicate some other info to the client, such as an ID number. So my question is, should the ID number be returned in an XML document in the response content, or should it be returned in some custom HTTP header fields? Which is more in line with the principles of REST? Or am I free to choose.

• Drawing text to <canvas> with @font-face does not work at the first time

  Hi all, First try the test case please: http://lemon-factory.net/test/font-face-and-canvas.html I'm not good at English, so I made the test case to be self-explanatory. On the first click to the DRAW button, it will not draw text, or will draw with an incorrect typeface instead of the specified "PressStart", according to your browser. After then it works as expected. At the first time the text does not appear correctly in all browsers I've tested (Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera). Is it the standard behavior or something?   Hi, I need to write some code to analyze whether or not a given user on our site is a bot. If it's a bot, we'll take some specific action. Looking at the User Agent is not something that is successful for anything but friendly bots, as you can specify any user agent you want in a bot. I'm after behaviors of unfriendly bots. Various ideas I've had so far are: If you don't have a browser ID If you don't have a session ID Unable to write a cookie Obviously, there are some cases where a legitimate user will look like a bot, but that's ok. Are there other programmatic ways to detect a bot, or either detect something that looks like a bot? thanks!

  Hi all: I've been trying to do as the client requested : redirect to campaign page then to destination page once a customer clicks on the top banner in swf format. You can check what's been done at :http://ausdcf.org If you are using Firefox, Chrome or Safari, I suspect you can reach the destination page. However, if you are using IE or Opera, I doubt it.   I have a model called Stem. I need a 'thumbs up' feature, so I have created a second model called Thumb, which consists of stem_id and user_id. I'm also using the restful authentication plugin for user credentials. I have the 'thumbs up' button working, which adds a row to the thumbs table fine, but I'd like to be able to check if the currently logged in user has already given a thumbs up to this particular stem. I tried adding this to the Stem model: def thumbed Thumb.count_by_sql ["SELECT COUNT(*) FROM thumbs WHERE user_id = ? AND stem_id = ?", current_user.id, self.id ] end The problem here is that the stem model has no access to the current_user variable the the controllers have. Is there a way I can get access to this property, or alternatively, is there another way I could go about checking this? I was hoping to get this as a property in the model because the stems are passed over to a Flex app using RubyAMF. Thanks!

• Best practices for querying an entire row in a database table? (MySQL / CodeIgniter)

  Sorry for the novice question! I have a table called cities in which I have fields called id, name, xpos, ypos. I'm trying to use the data from each row to set a div's position and name. What I'm wondering is what's the best practice for dynamically querying an unknown amount of rows (I don't know how many cities there might be, I want to pull the information from all of them) and then passing the variables from the model into the view and then setting attributes with it? Right now I've 'hacked' a solution where I run a different function each time which pulls a value using a query ('SELECT id FROM cities;'), then I store that in a global array variable and pass it into view. I do this for each var so I have arrays called: city_idVar, city_nameVar, city_xposVar, city_yposVar then I know that the city_nameVar[0] matches up with city_xposVar[0] etc. Is there a better way?

  Hi All, I have jQuery, FireFox, Firebug, IE, and IE developer toolbar. When I am examing a page with either FireBug or IE Dev toolbar, I am able to click on an element and it shows me in the dom where the element is etc... Is there anyway to transform that selection into a valid jQuery selector? I know I can use ID, classes, and element relative to other elements etc... but what about when I am looking at some random table cell that doesn't have a class or id etc..
