• Which free IMAP-supporting webmail would you recommend?

  Considering a machine with IIS 7.5/PHP 5.2/asp.net and mysql/MSSQL available, which webmail would you pick? Don't think it's relevant but the mail server is installed on localhost, and is hmailserver. If it's one using asp.net it'd be a bonus, but PHP is ok as well and probably offers more choices. "Client side" look and feel definitely needed, flash/silverlight/ajax not a problem. I have also seen this question, but being asked almost 2years ago and being focused on php webmails, I thought that some better option could've been released in the meantime.

• Solution to wirelessly project tablet desktop?

  I’m trying to find a device that would allow a windows 7 client to wirelessly connect and display their screen to a projector while still connected to the wireless network. The idea is to allow a professor to still project and display content while walking around the room with their tablet. To date, haven’t been able to find a solution that meets the requirements, has anyone stumbled across one yet? Requirements Must support Windows 7 Must be able to connect to WPA2 Personal(and hopefully enterprise) Must not use any usb dongles – those get lost/damaged given a chance. • Why can't connect with second computer in same LAN and settings?

  I'm trying to connect to WLAN with notebook. The notebook works fine with other WLANs. It can authenticate, signal is "very good" but it says "can't access internet". (On Windows it's small yellow exclamation mark on the signal). With other computer exactly in the same location, with the same settings, it's possible to connect. Both are configurated to get IP dynamically. One difference is that the other computer is using "Ralink wireless" instead normal windows client to connect. But does this make a difference? the settings are the same. What could be the reason?

  Hi! It makes sense, and is in fact suggested on this site, to have a critical file change trigger a service restart with puppet meta-parameters (such as notify or subscribe). For example: ## file definition for printers.conf file { "/etc/cups/printers.conf": [snip], source => "puppet:///module/etc/cups/printers.conf" } ## service definition for sshd service { 'cups': ensure => running, subscribe => File['/etc/cups/printers.conf'] } But in the case of CUPS, this triggers and endless loop of restarts; the logic works like this: Change puppetmaster's version of /etc/cups/printers.conf puppetmaster pushes new version to client, triggering cups restart cupsd restart insists on putting its own time stamp at the top of printers.conf, 'Written by cupsd...' This change will be seen as out of date, so after runinterval, we return to (1). Is there a way to suppress cupsd's need to time stamp the file? Or is there a puppet trick that could help here? • Distinguishing between UI command & domain commands

  I am building a WPF client application using the MVVM pattern that provides an interface on top of an existing set of business logic residing in a library which is shared with other applications. The business library followed a domain-driven architecture using CQRS to separate the read and write models (no event sourcing). The combination of technologies and patterns has brought up an interesting conundrum: The MVVM pattern uses the command pattern for handling user-interaction with the view models. .NET provides an ICommand interface which is implemented by most MVVM frameworks, like MVVM Light's RelayCommand and Prism's DelegateCommand. For example, the view model would expose a number of command objects as properties that are bound to the UI and respond when the user performs actions like clicking buttons. Many implementations of the CQRS use the command pattern to isolate and encapsulate individual behaviors. In my business library, we have implemented the write model as command / command-handler pairs. As such, when we want to do some work, such as create a new order, we 'issue' a command (CreateOrderCommand) which is routed to the command-handler responsible for executing the command. This is great, clearly explained in many sources and I am good with it. However, take this scenario: I have a ToolbarViewModel which exposes a CreateNewOrderCommand property. This ICommand object is bound to a button in the UI. When clicked, the UI command creates and issues a new CreateOrderCommand object to the domain which is handled by the CreateOrderCommandHandler. This is difficult to explain to other developers and I am finding myself getting tongue-tied because everything is a command. I'm sure I'm not the first developer to have patterns overlap like this where the naming/terminology also overlap. How have you approached distinguishing your commands used in the UI from those used in the domain? (Edit: I should mention that the business library is UI-agnostic, i.e. no UI technology-specific code exists, or will exists, in this library.)

• Checking preconditions or not

  I've been wanting to find a solid answer to the question of whether or not to have runtime checks to validate input for the purposes of ensuring a client has stuck to their end of the agreement in design by contract. For example, consider a simple class constructor: class Foo { public: Foo( BarHandle bar ) { FooHandle handle = GetFooHandle( bar ); if( handle == NULL ) { throw std::exception( "invalid FooHandle" ); } } }; I would argue in this case that a user should not attempt to construct a Foo without a valid BarHandle. It doesn't seem right to verify that bar is valid inside of Foo's constructor. If I simply document that Foo's constructor requires a valid BarHandle, isn't that enough? Is this a proper way to enforce my precondition in design by contract? So far, everything I've read has mixed opinions on this. It seems like 50% of people would say to verify that bar is valid, the other 50% would say that I shouldn't do it, for example consider a case where the user verifies their BarHandle is correct, but a second (and unnecessary) check is also being done inside of Foo's constructor.

• Outlook 2007 Clients attachments not opening correctly

  Hello, Thanks for taking the time to read this. We are having an issue on our Terminal Server clients that has me perplexed. We are running Server2003 x64 and Exchange 2007 environment. When we attempt to open an attachment for example .jpeg and the user selects to open the file, it prompts them to select a program to open the file with. The file associations apear to be fine, if I save the document to the desktop and open it, it opens with the correct program automatically. If i select "always open using this program" it will then open automatically, but I don't want to have to do this for all file types we open regularly on each client. Is this some sort of Exchange server security setting that is forcing them to associate the file? Does outlook or exchange maintain its own file association database? Thanks for reading!

• Ubuntu 9.04 Cannot Connect to visible open wifi ap (reason 6)

  I'm travelling currently so the last network i connected successfully to was my home wpa-psk network. I hadn't tried anything until i got to my accommodation that is an open network (that I'm on now on the Win7 partition on my laptop). The network (and a similar archetypical 'linksys' open network, aswell as some protected local networks are correctly displayed in network-manager and upon selection, it happily spins around to its hearts content for a while before saying 'no chance boy'. /var/log/syslog spills out the usual combination of wpa_supplicant and kernel messages, the most interesting of are that the kernel deauthentication reason 6 response. 6 apparently means class2FrameFromNonAuthStation...Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated. Anyone seen anything like this? I've already tried going closer to the router to no avail. I don't remember seeing this any other time I've connected to a open AP, even if that AP is far away. (Signal strength for this AP is good, kismet says its around -57dBm, well above the threshold of -80dBm, and I've tried all the suggestions from the 'Related Questions'

• Are these company terms good for a programmer or should I move?

  Here are some of the terms and conditions set forward by my employer. Does these make sense for a job like programming? No freelancing in any way even in your free time outside company work hours (may be okay. May be they wanted their employees to be fully concentrating on their full time job. Also they don't want their employees to do similar work for a competing client. Completely rational in that sense). - So sort of agreed. Any thing you develop like ideas, design, code etc while I'm employed there, makes them the owner of that. Seriously? Don't you think that its bad (for me)? If I'm to develop something in my free time (by cutting down sleep and hard working), outside the company time and resource, is that claim rational? I heard that Steve Wozniak had such a contract while he was working at HP. But that sort of hardware design and also those companies pay well, when compared to the peanuts I get. No other kind of works allowed. Means no open source stuffs. Fully dedicated to being a puppet for the employer, though the working environment is sort of okay. According to my assessment this place would score a 10/12 in Joel's test. So are these terms okay especially considering the fact that I'm underpaid with peanuts?

  I have created Hosted Zone with 2 IP addresses of Gluster Cluster, both IP are returned by dig. After mounting Gluster, I cannot ls mount point as it takes long time. mount shows me it's mounted, but df doesn't. Finally, I have this: ls: cannot access /mnt/storage: Transport endpoint is not connected.   I have a machine built using ESXi 4.0u1 and it has 3 hard drives. I have my hosts built on different hard drives but wondering about backup options. I do not have RAID but I have 3 drives and 1 is totally empty. I had been using it to store ISOs for loading. So what options do I have to either create a 1 time copy onto the spare drive or some sort of snapshot to the spare drive? - There must be some way to do this either via the vsphere client or ssh into the ESXi box and go from there. • Remote server's x menus without vino, vnc etc

  A question where both google searches, as well as askubuntu and ubuntu forums searches fails though rephrasing the question a number of times. Have a Lubuntu server with some storage and functions and a lubuntu laptop. Previous when running winXP, I had Xming, could start a x-session on the server, got the lxpanel on the laptop, switching, running x-programs without a hitch though the lxpanel menu. A very neat and convenient solution. However the winXP crashed, me moving to lubuntu also for the laptop. still things work, I ssh into the server and can start x-programs without a hitch. But, as with all graphical desktops, I at times need access to the lx menus on the server to find programs and here the problems arise, most finding I got talk about installing VNC, vino etc overkills, avoiding existing X-integration between the servers. I'll like to do as I did with Xming, see the menu system on the server, in my "client's" xwin? Just to see the servers installed software without colliding with the laptop X-server, just using it as normal X-apps.

I've set my email client to use plain-text but every time I send a post, Blogger hard wraps it instead of letting the text just flow. I've tried this with different mail clients and gotten the same results. I'm 100% sure that I'm sending plain text each time. Does anyone know how to get Blogger to quit doing this? Sigh. • I want to version control my entire slice

  I'm renting a slice (i.e., a VPS) from Slicehost. I've a spent a day or two filling up /usr with my favorite packages, /etc with configs and init scripts, and so on. Now I want to: save this whole setup somewhere (e.g., to load onto another machine). see what changes I've made to which files revert changes, tag revisions, and all that other good version control stuff Saving a disk image gives me (1), but not (2) and (3). Using Subversion (svn import / svn://someotherhost) might give me all three, but I expect problems if I actually try to check a project out into / and maintain .svn directories in root-owned areas. And to load my setup onto a fresh slice, I'd need to install an svn client on it first. Is there a good way to do what I want to do?

• Suggestions to start a cross-platform project

  I have a big project in my head, it should be cross-platform (Win, Max and Linux), online (Client - Server) and with 3D graphics. I would like some suggestions to start with the right things. Currently I'm a PHP/MySQL coder, I used to code in C and Pascal on DOS ages (Borland Times ;)), my C knowlegde need a refresh but it's ok. I guess C++ it's the right language. What platform and what i should use to code? I can choose from all three platforms. My idea was to use Visual Studio 2010 C++, but i'm not sure if it support Native code. What kind of libraries should i use? I guessed OpenSSL for the login, OpenGL for graphics part. For the Audio or the GUI? Any other suggestions are well accepted. I know it's a "BIG DEAL" but I have no rush and it'll be a free-time project, only for my pleasure. Thank you in advance.

  I have installed apache and php. I know php works as I have tested a simple php file on apache server. I'm writing a simple webserver which should be able to process php files. So what I want to do is once I get a request for a php file, something like 'exec php test.php' and get the output and pass it to the client. As I'm not much into Ubuntu, I don't know where is the php executable (should be in \bin right?) to do it. But there is no php file inside \bin or \usr\bin. When I run 'which php' it shows nothing. How do I do this?

  I am having a hard time finding help desk software that allows for drop down hyperlink selection during ticket creation. The situation is that we do external support for client systems and connect via remotely anywhere or logmein. Right now we use a poorly modified php based system that has a customer drop down menu and then a site drop down list that is then parsed by a bit of java script which opens a url. What I am looking for is the ability to store customer site URL information in the database and during the creation of a ticket be able to select the customer name and then select the site there by placing the corresponding site URL in the ticket. The support tech will then be able to click on this link to access the customer's site. Has anyone used or seen help desk software with this feature?

A convenient application for this (or so I thought) would be to snap a chat client, small browser, or other app while watching content in full-screen on the desktop. The problem with this is that full screen desktop applications will take over the entire screen, even if the desktop is snapped to only occupy 3/4th of the display. What I would like is some way to force "full screen" desktop apps to only cover the snapped desktop area, and to truly go full screen if the desktop is snapped to full-width. Is there some way to configure this? • Daylight Savings Time and Microsoft Exchange woes

  Ever since the switch from Standard Time to Daylight Time, the time on our e-mail messages has been ahead by one hour. This symptom has me wondering if the cause is improper configuration of daylight savings settings. Since we're in a client/server environment, the clients synchronize with the server, and the server synchronizes with Boulder, Colorado. If I set both the server and the clients to automatically switch to daylight savings, the clients seem to regard the server as being set to Standard Time and set themselves an hour ahead of it, which is really two hours ahead. Should the server switch to daylight savings and the clients follow along on their next synchronization, or should the server stay on Standard Time and the clients switch over? The system clock on the Exchange Server is currently displaying the correct time. How do I get the e-mail messages to display the correct time in Outlook?
