• Ubuntu 12.04 appearance

  I have just updated my old Ubuntu 11.04 to the 12.04 version and I really dislike the new appearance. Is there anyway I can go back to the old appearance? Here are some examples of the things I would like to change: the omnipresent orange colour (for example, colour of the folders, colour of the little x on the top right of the window etc.); used to be blue. The icons on the right vertical bar are unreadable: the dropbox icon has become a light grey shapeless blob, the battery icon does not indicate, as it did before, when electricity is plugged in and when it isn't. everything is just grey and orange (I chose the Radiance theme, the other ones are even worse). There used to be a lot of options choosing the shape of the windows and so on, where has all that gone? Thanks for your help!

  how do i get USB install of 12.04 installed? how do i change the BIOS? how do i partition the disk for dual boot? Web instructions for USB ISO bootable image were confusing. Series 9 has new, UEFI compatible BIOS - there is a gotcha involving "fast BIOS Mode" The native windows install included 2 partitions that were hard to get rid of: 21GB NTFS for "Samsung-rec" ... recovery 8GB for Hibernation both of the above were hard to get rid of in windows.

• no windows 7 option after recent 12.10 install and boot repair

  Earlier today i installed ubuntu 12.10 beta. Grub wasn't booting, but just going directly to my primary OS Windows 7. I assumed i had partitioned incorrectly, because partitioning isnt my strong suit. I used boot repair because it was well recomanded off a live usb. Afterwards, grub appeared, but i only had options for Ubuntu, Advanced Ubuntu Option, and my hidden windows 7 recovery partition. Please help me recover my access to windows partiton. • processing gamestate with a window of commands across time?

  I have clients sending client updates at a 100ms intervals. i pool the command inputs and create a client command frame. the commands come into the server in these windows and i tag them across time as they come in. when i do a server tick i intend to process this list of commands i.e. [ {command:'duck',timestamp:350,player:'a'}, {command:'shoot',timestamp:395,player:'b'}, {command:'move', timestamp:410,player:'c'} {command:'cover',timestamp:420,player:'a'} ] how would i efficiently update the gamestate based on this list? the two solutions i see are 1) simulate time via direct equation to figure out how far everyone would move or change as if the real gameupdate was ticking on the worldtick..but then unforseen events that would normally trigger during real update would not get triggered such as powerups or collissions 2) prepare to run the worldupdate multiple times and figure out which commands get sent to which worldupdate. this seems better but a little more costly is there a canonical way to do this?

  When i install ubuntu, and the computer restarts it doesn't show the boot managaer so it always boots in windows 7. I tried to change the default os, and ubuntu wasn't even listed in it. Then I read a how to on it, it showed how to size the partions and make them correctly, but it still didn't work. I tried easyBCD and still no success. I've tried installing it about 4-5 times and i still can't get it. What can i do to fix it?

• Changing hosts but keep old emails [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Change host / keep emails OK here's the situation...I'm trying to transfer my domain and email address to a new hosting service and I would like to start using Google's domain apps for my email, etc. My email address is currently on a WebMail type platform and when I move my domain and start using Google domain apps I would also like to keep the old emails and have them imported the the email address on Google. Note: The email address will be the same on both hosts. For example [email protected]. So its keeping the same address between two different systems. I've been Googling how to do this for awhile and all the migrate options that come up don't appear in the the Google inbox setting or domain apps config settings. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was wondering what professional JS developers use to write and test their code: Do they use a good text editor with syntax high-lighting + autocompletion, hit F5 in the browser to reload the page every time they make a change, and use some add-on in the browser to investigate errors? Or are there full-fledged IDE's similar to MS VisualStudio for non-web languages?

• Collapsible menu and amount of links in a web page

  One of my pages contain three levels of a collapsible menu (JS + CSS from mycssmenu.com). There are a dozen first level items displayed to users, each one with various second level items, and finally a lot of third level items, each one containing a related link. This generates a lot of internal links (300+). Because of SEO should I change the way the collapsible menu is displayed to reduce link amount? What do you suggest? I would like to avoid users to have to open a new page just to only see what are third level items and eventually follow one of its links.

I wish to Dual Boot Ubuntu with Windows 7, when i do the windows setup , do not even get the options to Install Alongside with, Just install or Something else. Someone in another forum said something with the HP BIOS, can not find where to change anything. So what do i have to do so Ubuntu sees my HDD with Windows? Manually make partition?   Its been 2 years since graduating from uni and working in a IT solutions company as a programmer. My initial year was particularly exciting when we were trying to get a fresh product up to speed. The product has now gone live and are in the maintenance phase. My current day job involves merely bug fixing and also small designing/implementing change requests and also helping resolve issues faced from clients. Slowly I feel a little 'normal' in my role. I wonder how I can make myself stand out. (I work in a company of no more than 200 people) Or what should be the next step I take after 2 years doing programming? Thanks!

• Ubuntu user expectations from 12.04 and future releases

  How much further ahead is 12.10 vs 12.04 in respect to kernel updates and applications? Example: Gimp's newest release is 2.8 which runs equally as well in both 12.04 and 12.10 and probably will in 13.04. What restricts 12.04 from having "the same" look, feel, applications and kernel as 12.10 or the upcoming 13.04? I know that it's more than a name change.....it's whats under the hood that counts. Incrementally upgrading, I feel is safer than radical changes from release to release. Trying to keep a stable desktop and current user experience, how far can I take updating applications before I absolutely have to make a distro upgrade from 12.04LTS

  Hi I have an acer aspire on a recent upgrade somehow it loaded dummy output into upper memory so every time I boot up I have to manually load my sound card. using sudo /sbin/alsa reload then alsamixer and f6 to change to my proper sound card. How do I go about making that my default sound card loading on boot every time. sometimes the message comes up cannot find alsamixer, if that happens I have to run the following command sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload and then alsamixer. That works only on current session I would like to get that so it boots without coming up with dummy output. anyone out there know what the command is to make that load to boot section?

• How to make this design closer to proper DDD?

  I've read about DDD for days now and need help with this sample design. All the rules of DDD make me very confused to how I'm supposed to build anything at all when domain objects are not allowed to show methods to the application layer; where else to orchestrate behaviour? Repositories are not allowed to be injected into entities and entities themselves must thus work on state. Then an entity needs to know something else from the domain, but other entity objects are not allowed to be injected either? Some of these things makes sense to me but some don't. I've yet to find good examples of how to build a whole feature as every example is about Orders and Products, repeating the other examples over and over. I learn best by reading examples and have tried to build a feature using the information I've gained about DDD this far. I need your help to point out what I do wrong and how to fix it, most preferably with code as "I would not recomment doing X and Y" is very hard to understand in a context where everything is just vaguely defined already. If I can't inject an entity into another it would be easier to see how to do it properly. In my example there are users and moderators. A moderator can ban users, but with a business rule: only 3 per day. • Upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 stuck

  While upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, I'm stalled at the step: Installing new version of config file /etc/init/udevtrigger.conf The Terminal in the Distribution Upgrade window is expanded, there is no prompt for user input. I've hit enter a few times but it doesn't change anything but add a blank line after the last print statement. It's been sitting for ~6 hours at this stage. No other windows or dialog boxes are open. The upgrade has progressed through "Preparing to Upgrade", "Setting new software channels", and "Getting new packages". Under the progress bar (which estimates 1 day 2 hours remaining, and has for some time), it says Preparing to configure libpcap0.8. I'd take a screen-shot, but it won't let me save the file anywhere. The progress bar is about 1/3 complete.

• LibreOffice can't open a spreadsheet

  I have been editing my-file.ods almost daily using LibreOffice. Today it hanged at one point. I had to reboot the laptop. Now the file cannot be edited. When it is opened for editing, a warning is issues: Document file is locked for editing by unknown user. If I open the file for editing despite the stated hiccup and edit it and then try to save it, I am prompted to save it under another name. But I don't want to change the name.

• How do I fix hibernate?

  Suspend and Hibernate was not working in my Ubuntu 11.04 and I followed these instructions to fix the issue by installing uswsusp. The commands s2ram and s2disk were working fine for me and hence I replaced the contents of hal-system-power-suspend-linux and hal-system-power-hibernate-linux as directed in the above link. Now after my upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10, I am unable to hibernate my system. How to rectify this issue? Is there any config file which I need to change for hibernate to function properly?

  This is not a new item at all but I came across it recently. For an app I had been using some JavaScript like: javascript:window.open(someurl.aspx here) to open a new window via a button. That bit of code had been working great in several other apps. Then in one app that same code decided to open the new window correctly while clearing the parent of everything but [object].   I am using Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit, and I can browse the internet fine. I am typing this using the machine. When I attempt to use the Ubuntu Update Manager to update to 11.04, I get this error message: Failed to Fetch Fetching the upgrade failed.There may be a network problem. And when I try to change servers, here is what I get: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/source/Sources.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.15 80] It repeats with other lines, 404 not found. Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Any ideas?
