  • Is it normal that .Net combobox postback always contains data items?

    I have a dynamically populated ComponentArt:ComboBox with Autopostback property set to true. So every time the selection changes, a postback to server would be fired. Since I'm storing the viewstates in session already, there's really no need for any of the component to restore states from the client. So I'm wondering if this is normal for ComponentArt:ComboBox to do this and not other controls, or this is the normal way of doing things?

    I'm calling a Coldfusion component (cfc) using jQuery.post(). I need an integer or string representation of the number returned for use in a URL. {"PAGE":"My Page Title","ID":19382} or {"PAGE":"My Page Title","ID":"19382"} Instead what I get back is a decimal: {"PAGE":"My Page Title","ID":19382.0} Needed to update the following HTML: <a href="page.cfm?id=19382" id="pagelink">My Page Title</a> Conceptually, I suppose there are multiple answers: 1) I could use jQuery to grab the number left of the decimal point. 2) I could force Coldfusion to send the number as a string. 3) I could generate the whole link server side and just replace the whole link tag HTML (not the preferred answer, but maybe it is the best) Does anyone know how to do 1 or 2? Is 3 better?   • Avoid slowdowns while using off-site database

    The basic layout of my problem is this: Website (ASP.NET/C#) hosted at a dedicated hosting company (location 1) Company database (SQL Server) with records of relevant data (location 2). Location 1 & 2 connected through VPN. Customer visiting the website and wanting to pull data from the company database. No possibility of changing the server locations or layout (i.e. moving the website to an in-office server isn't possible). What I want to do is figure out the best way to handle the data acces in this case, minimizing the need for time-expensive database calls over the VPN. The first idea I'm getting is this: When a user enters the section of the website needing the DB data, you pull all the needed tables from the database into a in-memory dataset. All subsequent views/updates to the data is done on this dataset. When the user leaves (logout, session timeout, browser closed etc) the dataset gets sent to the SQL server. I'm not sure if this is a realistic solution, and it obviously has some problems. If two web visitors are performing updates on the same data, the one finishing up last will have their changes overwriting the first ones. There's also no way of knowing you have the latest data (i.e. if a customer pulls som info on their projects and we update this info while they are viewing them, they won't see these changes PLUS the above overwriting issue will arise). The other solution would be to somehow aggregate database calls and make sure they only happen when you need them, e.g. during data updates but not during data views. But then again the longer a pause between these refreshing DB calls, the bigger a chance that the data view is out of date as per the problem described above. Any input on the above or some fresh ideas would be most welcome.

    I have a getStockQuote() function that will get a current stock quote for a symbol from the stock market. My goal is that within a JTA transaction, the first call to getStockQuote() will fetch a stock quote, but all subsequent calls within the same transaction will reuse the same stock quote (e.g.: it will not try to fetch a new quote). If a different transaction starts, or another transaction runs concurrently, i would expect the other transaction to fetch its own stock quote on its first call. This would be similar to how you can configure JPA providers to only fetch a database row from the database once, and use the cached value for subsequent access to the same database row within the transaction. Does anyone have tips on how this can be achieved?

    I have a table that stores a bunch of diagnosis for a single plan. When the users create a new plan I need to copy over all existing diagnosis's as well. I had thought to try the below but this is obviously not correct. I am guessing that I will need to loop through my oldDiagnosis part, but how? Thanks!   • Entity Framework 4 Entity with EntityState of Unchanged firing update

    I am using EF 4, mapping all CUD operations for my entities using sprocs. I have two tables, ADDRESS and PERSON. A PERSON can have multiple ADDRESS associated with them. Here is the code I am running: Person person = (from p in context.People where p.PersonUID == 1 select p).FirstOrDefault(); Address address = (from a in context.Addresses where a.AddressUID == 51 select a).FirstOrDefault(); address.AddressLn2 = "Test"; context.SaveChanges(); The Address being updated is associated with the Person I am retrieveing - although they are not explicitly linked in any way in the code. When the context.SaveChanges() executes not only does the Update sproc for my Address entity get fired (like you would expect), but so does the Update sproc for the Person entity - even though you can see there was no change made to the Person entity. When I check the EntityState of both objects before the context.SaveChanges() call I see that my Address entity has an EntityState of "Modified" and my Person enity has an EntityState of "Unchanged". Why is the Update sproc being called for the Person entity? Is there a setting of some sort that I can set to prevent this from happening?

    I have a website for dance academy where Users can register and add/drop dance classes. In the web page to drop a particular dance, for a particular user, the dropdown displays her registered dances. Now I want to delete one of the dances from the list. So I'll remove the row from the table and also from the dropdownlist. The problem is that everytime the item with the lowest ID (index) is getting deleted, no matter which one the user selects. I think I am storing the DataTextField and DataValueField for the dropdown incorrectly.   • Django Getting RequestContext in custom tag

    I'm trying to create a custom tag. Inside this custom tag, I want to be able to have some logic that checks if the user is logged in, and then have the tag rendered accordingly. This is what I have: class UserActionNode(template.Node): def __init__(self): pass def render(self, context): if context.user.is_authenticated(): return render_to_string('layout_elements/sign_in_register.html'); else: return render_to_string('layout_elements/logout_settings.html'); def user_actions(parser, test): return UserActionNode() register.tag('user_actions', user_actions) When I run this, I get this error: Caught AttributeError while rendering: 'Context' object has no attribute 'user' The view that renders this looks like this: return render_to_response('start/home.html', {}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) Why doesn't the tag get a RequestContext object instead of the Context object? How can I get the tag to receive the RequestContext instead of the Context? EDIT: Whether or not it's possible to get a RequestContext inside a custom tag, I'd still be interested to know the "correct" or best way to determine a user's authentication state from within the custom tag. If that's not possible, then perhaps that kind of logic belongs elsewhere? Where?

  • Cocoa Launch agent registering itself after installation.

    I have created Cocoa app which is type of launch agent. To distribute this I have created package as well which installs the app and copies the launchagnet plist file in /Libraries/LaunchAgents. Now the problem is after installation i want this app to be running in user context immediately without logoff/restart. If I register this with "launchctl" from installer, using post install script, it run in root context, as installer is running in root context. Any suggestion how the agent registers itself to launchctl and runs in user context.

    Hello! I'm having trouble getting my head around sending multiple models to a view in mvc. My problem is the following. Using EF4 I have a table with attributes organised by category. Couldn't post an image :-( [Have a table called attributes (AttributeTitle, AttributeName, CategoryID) connected to a table called Category (CategoryTitle).] What I want to do is be able to edit an attribute entity and have a dropdown of categories to choose from. I tried to make a custom viewmodel public class AttributeViewModel { public AttributeViewModel() { } public Attribute Attribute { get; set; } public IQueryable<Category> AllCategories { get; set; } } But it just ended up being a mess. <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.DropDownList("Category", new SelectList((IEnumerable)Model.AllCategories, "CategoryID", "CategoryName")) %> </div> I was getting it back to the controller... Somewhere here I thought that there should be a cleaner way to do this, and that if I could only send two models to the view instead of having to make a custom viewmodel. To sum it up: I want to edit my attribute and have a dropdown of all of the available categories. Any help much appreciated!

  • How do I "merge" two separate git repositories of the same website without losing commit data?

    I have two separate git repositories for the same version of a single website. domain.com-1.0 domain.com-2.0 Version 2.0 was completely redone from the ground up. There is no bridge between the two repositories. I would now like to merge the two into a single repository, but maintain the separation. I have already tagged domain.com-1.0 in it's repo and now want to clean the working tree and move domain-2.0 and all it's commit history into 1.0's repo. Is this possible or is there a better way of accomplishing this? Note: domain.com-1.0 will not be developed on anymore and is "being retired".

    I am new to C++ and am making a simple text RPG, anyway, The scenario is I have a "welcome" screen with choices 1-3, and have a simple IF statement to check them, here: int choice; std::cout << "--> "; std::cin >> choice; if(choice == 1) { //.. That works fine, but if someone enters a letter as selection (instead of 1, 2 or 3) it'll become "-392493492"or something and crash the program. So I came up with: char choice; std::cout << "--> "; std::cin >> choice; if(choice == 1) { //.. This works kinda fine, but when I enter a number it seems to skip the IF statements completely.. Is the char "1" the same as the number 1? I get a compiler errro with this (ISO-CPP or something): if(choice == "1") So how on earth do I see if they entered 1-3 correctly!?

    i am wking on an assignment in which i have a gridview that contain deptno in a dropdownlist.by selecting a particular deptno from that dropdownlist,the number of employee of that department displayed in second dropdownlist that is for displaying employyee of a department.And after selecting the employee its salary detail and date of joining displayed in textboxes?we have two database table one is for employee(fields are deptno,empname,salary,joining date,status(true/false))and second department(fields are deptno,deptname,location);;;
