• Installing Office 2010 through group policy without an msi

  I have been breaking my head for several days now trying to install Microsoft office 2010 through group policy. Unfortunately Microsoft decided it would be fun to release office without an MSI and so I either Need to create an msi for it or Need to install it through a logon script that would run the setup.exe from a network location. Any advise would be greatlly appreciated. I tried to create a script but even though I double click it and it runs properly, it does not seem to kick in when users log in or when the machine is turned on. Also is there an easy way to create an msi?

• Can't double click files to open them in inDesign (CS5)

  I cannot open a file unless I open inDesign (the program) and then do File-Open If I double click, it starts to open, then just hangs forever. AFTER I close it, and look in the directory where they're saved, I see a (temporary?) "lock" file. Now I can double click the original file and it opens just fine. However, now when I close iD it deletes the file and the whole process starts again... I have tried updating the software, uninstalled COMPLETELY and reinstalled, tried a brand new Win7 install. These files are all saved on a network drive, the computer is a new quad-core Dell with 12GB of RAM and a fresh x64 Win7 install on the SSD. Does not happen with other programs.

• Disk quota problem in Windows Server SBS 2003

  I have got a new job and the existing SBS 2003 domain setup is unsecure (i.e. everyone is a domain admin etc etc). There are lots of problem due to inexperienced "network admin", and I am trying to fix them one by one. There exist one issue which I found quite weird, that the "Quota" tab exists in the C:(NTFS) drive but not the D:(NTFS) drive. I played around with gpedit to enable disk quota (it was "not configured" before), but still I can't see that tab. Have you seen this problem before? How did you solve it?

• telnet to 3389 connects, RDP remote desktop app bails ?

  I can TELENT 192.168.10.10 3389 and get a connection. But RDP client to 192.168.10.10 immedietly bails (i.e less then 1 sec) "connect" button greys briefly, RDP app remains on screen. Have tried these from many nodes on the subnet to 192.168.10.10 with same result. On 192.168.10.10 Allow Remote Desktop is enabled. On 192.168.10.10 windows firemall is off. Im connecting from the same subnet i.e no firewall hardware / routers in the way. AV software is installed but other nodes on same subnet allow RDP connection using exact same AV settings (network group profile) Checked 192.168.10.10 for any additonal AV software or local firewall products. Im sure non exist. Checked regedit to ensure 3389 was the port set for listening. Seems to be an XP problem (sp3) ( 2 nodes on the my LAN have this issue) and many work fine. • How do I use an SSH public key from a remote machine?

  Setup The public keys are set up on a Macbook. I can do a passwordless push to github and a server (iMac) on the local network. The Problem I know the keys are partially setup correctly, because I everything works if I'm sitting at the Macbook. What doesn't work is when I SSH into the Macbook remotely and attempt to push to github or to the iMac server. I'm prompted to input my SSH key passphrase. What am I missing to enable pushing to github from the Macbook while logged in remotely from the iMac?

• networking fails when DNS servers are specified manualy

  When I let Windows-7 use DHCP to find its own DNS server, everything works fine. Then I use ipconfig to get the IPs of the DNS servers in question, and specify them manually. Now the network stops working. (I need to do this because my next step is to restore the router that is going to lie about the proper DNS server. Don't ask why, it is required by my father's work. The IT there are not exactly on the ball.) Why would this make a difference? It is the same set of servers, just obtained differently.

• Recommended service account setup for MS SQL Server 2005/2008

  We have a number of MS SQL servers in our environment running either SQL Server 2005 standard/enterprise or SQL server 2008 enterprise. Currently the SQL services are running as local service or network service and the MS recommended best practice is to run as a domain account which is what we are trying to move towards. Is the best practice with regards to domain accounts to have a separate domain account per service per server? So if we have 4 SQL services we want to run per server and we have 50 servers, we would create 50 * 4 = 200 accounts in AD? This seems excessive to me and I was wondering if anyone has any real experience with this type of setup and it's management.

• Cat 6 Only 100mbit speed

  I tried two different cat6 cables directly connected between my two ubuntu machines. This one I ordered online: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002SQPDXS/ref=wms_ohs_product only achieves 100mbit speeds, but does appear to be supporting cross-talk (direct pc to pc), the other cat 6 cable, worked perfectly and gets the full 1gigabit speed. Both tests were performed using ftp and checking the network monitor with direct pc to pc connection. Did the product from amazon lie to me or do I need to manually set a setting somewhere in ubuntu for some cables? I had thought 10 quid for 20m of gigabit ethernet cable was a bit cheap, you get what you pay for... Regards, Stu Update: It seems that after rebooting, the device is set to 1000mbit sec when looking it up with sudo ethtool eth0 However after a while, this will drop down to just 100, after which to reset it to 1000 again, I have to reboot, and simply unpugging and re-plugging in the cable doesn't do it. I tried setting this in networking config file as suggested here: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static pre-up /usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full but that resulted in my networking failing to start. Is there a problem with my 'auto-negotiation' or something? Can I manually override a setting to 1000mbit?

• Are there any sFTP clients that support a proxy that uses NTLM authentication?

  The title pretty much summarizes the question. We have deployed an sFTP server that needs to be accessed from our client's MS Windows Pc's that reside within a restricted local area network. The only way they can get out for their Intranet is to use an HTTP proxy that requires NTLM authentication. From what I understand all open-source sFTP clients (FilleZilla,WinSCP,etc) do NOT support NTLM authentication (Because of legal issues). I know that there are workarounds to this (installing a local proxy at the machine that understands NTLM) but this would break all sorts of security policies of our client. So my question is : Does anyone know of any sFTP client that supports a NTLM Proxy?

• Can't Start ISC DHCP IPv6 Server

  Trying to enable the ISC DHCP server for just IPv6 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I have downloaded and installed the DHCP server via the following command: $ sudo apt-get install isc-dhcp-server Then I have followed the instructions in the following resources, Ubuntu Wiki DHCPv6, SixXS - Configuring ISC DHCPv6 Server and Linux IPv6 HOWTO - Configuration of the ISC DHCP server for IPv6 . So from review all those resources it seems like I need to: set a static IPv6 address for the Interface I want to run the DHCPv6 server from that is part of the IPv6 network subnet outside the DHCP range. Edit the /etc/dhcp/dhcpd6.conf file to configure the DHCPv6 range etc. Create the /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd6.leases Manually start the DHCPv6 server. Setting the Static IP for eth0 $ sudo ifconfig eth0 inet6 add 2001:db8:0:1::128/64 My dhcpd6.conf default-lease-time 600; max-lease-time 7200; log-facility local7; subnet6 2001:db8:0:1::/64 { #Range for clients range6 2001:db8:0:1::129 2001:db8:0:1::254; } Created the dhcpd6.leases file As indicated in the dhcpd.leases man page. $ touch /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd6.leases #Tried with sudo as well Manually starting the DHCPv6 server. Attempted to start the server using the following command: $ sudo dhcp -6 -f -cf /etc/dhcp/dhcpd6.conf eth0 The problem, the DHCP will not start, with an append error for the dhcpd6.leases file as indicated below when running the manual start command noted above. Can't open /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd6.leases for append. Any ideas what I might be missing?

  I'm trying to utilize maximal bandwidth provided by my 1GiB network card, but it's always limited to 80MiB (real megabytes). What can be the reason? • Python multithreading not working on VPS server

  I am running an python multithreaded application with multiple processes which scrapes data from some websites. While running on my localhost It works great, but on the vps server I am using( Centos 5.8, 2.6 GHZ with 4 cores) performs very slow. From the nethogs command I get the network usage too low. I get around 8KBps with 15 threads. On other hand, in my PC I get the usage around 100-120KBPS. I have read about the Python GIL and threading limitations. It seems GIL never releases the lock on the VPS though it should while doing I/0 Is there any configuration in the VPS that I need to change for the threading to work properly?

• Why times elapsed connecting to a server are different?

  I have a small program which connects to a server of my choice and measures the time elapsed to do so. Each time I run it it returns different result. My question is what does this time depend on ? Network congestion for one. If I choose a server that has multiple addresses e.g. google.com the length of physical link may differ from time to time ? Is it safe to assume that it also affects connection time ? Are there any other factors in place ?

• FreeNas running on ESXi - sometimes gets very slugish.

  Hello everyone, I have a ESXi server (dual quad core, 8GB of DDR3 ram, 6x 1TB WD Blacks running in RAid 5 on the PErc 6/i controller. I have a 64bit freenas VM running, on this VM I keep about 200Gigs of stuff that my windows machines access. every now and then the throughput of this VM just dies, for example right now it can't even handle streaming a song and when I tried to transfer a folder the speed goes from 10-400KB/s. Might I add at this point that the ESXi box has dual gigabit network cards plugged into a good solid gigabit switch and other linux and windows VM's are just fine I have seen speeds over 90MB/s (frequently) The server still has ram left over (plenty actually) and cpu is very low (500-1000mhz) any ideas what could cause this? thanks.   I am a newbie in managing and development for Domino. Recently, I have request from other teams at work to set up a filter or agent for incoming mail. This is the requirement for the request: Look for Incoming Mail addressed to #CRITICAL (mutlipurpose, internal group containing a list of engineers) For mail matching Point 1, append "For Immediate Action: " to the front of the Subject Some restrictions I have: Only the Domino server is under my charge, not to touch on network-side or other servers No 3rd party software to be installed I have gone through the configurations in the Domino server and the closest thing I have to filtering Email is the Router/SMTP Restrictions... Rules. But this is not able to fulfill Point 2 in any way. Is this even possible using just Domino server settings, or through agents?

• Netgear WNR1000 WiFi speed

  I have Netgear WNR1000 150N, Macbook Pro 13" with Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0, Network connection 60mbps When I connect through the cable I easily get around 60mbps. When I go through the WiFi it's capable to get only 32mbps at tops. Any ideas why is that? Is that my router limitation or maybe my WiFi card? If it is routers fault what router would you suggest. • Restore access to Cisco Connect after changing router settings

  I have recently bought Cisco Valet Plus (M20) wireless router (which I recognize now was a mistake, but nevermind). It has two setup options - Cisco Connect software and web-based setup. Cisco Connect software allows changing very small set of settings, web-based setup allows access to almost all settings, except settings for guest network. The problem is that when I use web-based setup, Cisco Connect after some changes refuses to talk to the router, so I can't change guest settings anymore (since web interface doesn't allow to change them). It must be because of some config parameter not matching or some password set wrong - but I don't know where Cisco Connect stores them. So, does anybody have any idea how to make Cisco Connect talk to the router again once I changed the settings through the web interface?

  Oracle Enterprise Manager continues to expand its Eco-system with the NEW Extensibility Exchange! The Exchange offers a searchable listing of Enterprise Manager entities. Today it’s stocked with plug-ins and connectors for Enterprise Manager 12c and 11g. Anyone - partners, customers, ACE community members, anyone - can post an entity subject to approval of course. • Firmware/driver for Broadcom wifi card, PowerBook G4 running Ubuntu 12.04 [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How to Install Broadcom Wireless Drivers 40 answers This is my first time working with Ubuntu (or Linux), so please be patient. I am running Ubuntu 12.04-powerpc "Precise Pangolin" on a Mac PowerBook G4 with 1.67GHz processor. The firmware/driver for the wifi card is missing. For reasons not worth explaining, I cannot physically plug the computer into the network. I have another computer, a MacBook Pro running OSX, from which I can download files and port them by USB thumb drive. The wifi card in the PowerBook G4 is by Broadcom. The chip is BCM4306, rev. 3. The PCI number is 14e4:4302. I have downloaded b43-fwcutter_015-14_powerpc.deb and dropped it into the Home folder on the Ubuntu machine. However, it will not install. When I double-click, it opens with Ubuntu SoftwareCenter, but the "Install" button is inactive: I can't click it. There's a message beside the inactive button saying, "An older version of 'b43-fwcutter' is available in your normal software channels. Only install this file if you trust the origin." If I "right-click" the .deb file and open with Archive Manager, it shows me the "DEBIAN" and "usr" folders, but I'm unsure what to do from there...and fairly certain this is not the right way to do things. Maybe I have the wrong version of b43-fwcutter for my machine/version of Ubuntu? The documentation for this problem is a mess. It refers to all sorts of out-of-date Ubuntu versions and to an array of different "cutter" and firmware files. Maybe I'd be able to figure this out if I were a more seasoned Ubuntu user, but I have no idea why Sofware Center won't let me do the install. I would be VERY grateful for an explanation of how to get the wifi card working on this machine again. Thank you!

  I am using DNS load balancing in my centOs 5 server.The mail sent to the load balancer server are balanced by sending them to 4 more servers who then pass the mails to their destinations in the network.The mails are generated by a Php script which gives all the mail to the load balancer server. Now i want sasl and tls authentication in the load balancer server so that i can prevent the mail server from spammers,Can anyone tell me how to do this. The load balancer pass the mails to other servers based on equal mx record preference,so i want sasl authentication with Dns load balancing.

• Can Remote Desktop be set up to use IPv6?

  I have both a Windows 7 Ultimate and a Windows XP Professional machine set up on my home network. I would like to be able to access them from school. Port forwarding is not currently an option (long story). Is there a way to set it so that I can RDP (yes it has to be RDP not something like TeamViewer or LogMeIn) over IPv6, possibly using Teredo? I have tried but I can't seem to get it working. Also I cannot ping these machines' IPv6 addresses. How can I get this set up?
