• Javascript resizing with window.open and WebBrowser control

- by Raj
I'm using WPF WebBrowser control and handling NewWindow3 events using following code: IServiceProvider serviceProvider = (IServiceProvider)webBrowser.Document; Guid serviceGuid = SID_SWebBrowserApp; Guid iid = typeof(SHDocVw.WebBrowser).GUID; SHDocVw.WebBrowser wb = (SHDocVw.WebBrowser)serviceProvider.QueryService(ref serviceGuid, ref iid); wb.NewWindow3 += new SHDocVw.DWebBrowserEvents2_NewWindow3EventHandler(wb_NewWindow3); How to handle javascript resizing when navigating using window.open, something like this: window.open('Sample.htm',null,'height=200,width=400,status=yes,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no'); Is there anyway to get height and width requested by caller in NewWindow3 event handler?

• Delete section of streamreader

- by Luke
I am reading a file into my program using streamreader. private void loadFile() { lstDeliveryDetails.Items.Clear(); if (!File.Exists("../../MealDeliveries.txt")) { MessageBox.Show("File not found!"); return; } using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader("../../MealDeliveries.txt")) { //first line is delivery name string strDeliveryName = sr.ReadLine(); while (strDeliveryName != null) { //other lines Delivery d = new Delivery(strDeliveryName, sr.ReadLine(), sr.ReadLine(), sr.ReadLine(), sr.ReadLine(), sr.ReadLine(), sr.ReadLine()); mainForm.myDeliveries.Add(d); //check for further values strDeliveryName = sr.ReadLine(); } } displayDeliveries(); } Eventually I end up with all the deliveries in the following array public static ArrayList myDeliveries = new ArrayList(); It is loaded into the listview. I select an item as follows: iDeliverySelected = lstDeliveryDetails.SelectedItems[0].Index; I am struggling to understand how I can select an item and use a delete button to remove it from the text file?

• IRM Item Codes – what are they for?

- by martin.abrahams
A number of colleagues have been asking about IRM item codes recently – what are they for, when are they useful, how can you control them to meet some customer requirements? This is quite a big topic, but this article provides a few answers. An item code is part of the metadata of every sealed document – unless you define a custom metadata model. The item code is defined when a file is sealed, and usually defaults to a timestamp/filename combination. This time/name combo tends to make item codes unique for each new document, but actually item codes are not necessarily unique, as will become clear shortly. In most scenarios, item codes are not relevant to the evaluation of a user’s rights - the context name is the critical piece of metadata, as a user typically has a role that grants access to an entire classification of information regardless of item code. This is key to the simplicity and manageability of the Oracle IRM solution. Item codes are occasionally exposed to users in the UI, but most users probably never notice and never care. Nevertheless, here is one example of where you can see an item code – when you hover the mouse pointer over a sealed file. As you see, the item code for this freshly created file combines a timestamp with the file name. But what are item codes for? The first benefit of item codes is that they enable you to manage exceptions to the policy defined for a context. Thus, I might have access to all oracle – internal files - except for 2011_03_11 13:33:29 Board Minutes.sdocx. This simple mechanism enables Oracle IRM to provide file-by-file control where appropriate, whilst offering the scalability and manageability of classification-based control for the majority of users and content. You really don’t want to be managing each file individually, but never say never. Item codes can also be used for the opposite effect – to include a file in a user’s rights when their role would ordinarily deny access. So, you can assign a role that allows access only to specified item codes. For example, my role might say that I have access to precisely one file – the one shown above. So how are item codes set? In the vast majority of scenarios, item codes are set automatically as part of the sealing process. The sealing API uses the timestamp and filename as shown, and the user need not even realise that this has happened. This automatically creates item codes that are for all practical purposes unique - and that are also intelligible to users who might want to refer to them when viewing or assigning rights in the management UI. It is also possible for suitably authorised users and applications to set the item code manually or programmatically if required. Setting the item code manually using the IRM Desktop The manual process is a simple extension of the sealing task. An authorised user can select the Advanced… sealing option, and will see a dialog that offers the option to specify the item code. To see this option, the user’s role needs the Set Item Code right – you don’t want most users to give any thought at all to item codes, so by default the option is hidden. Setting the item code programmatically A more common scenario is that an application controls the item code programmatically. For example, a document management system that seals documents as part of a workflow might set the item code to match the document’s unique identifier in its repository. This offers the option to tie IRM rights evaluation directly to the security model defined in the document management system. Again, the sealing application needs to be authorised to Set Item Code. The Payslip Scenario To give a concrete example of how item codes might be used in a real world scenario, consider a Human Resources workflow such as a payslips. The goal might be to allow the HR team to have access to all payslips, but each employee to have access only to their own payslips. To enable this, you might have an IRM classification called Payslips. The HR team have a role in the normal way that allows access to all payslips. However, each employee would have an Item Reader role that only allows them to access files that have a particular item code – and that item code might match the employee’s payroll number. So, employee number 123123123 would have access to items with that code. This shows why item codes are not necessarily unique – you can deliberately set the same code on many files for ease of administration. The employees might have the right to unseal or print their payslip, so the solution acts as a secure delivery mechanism that allows payslips to be distributed via corporate email without any fear that they might be accessed by IT administrators, or forwarded accidentally to anyone other than the intended recipient. All that remains is to ensure that as each user’s payslip is sealed, it is assigned the correct item code – something that is easily managed by a simple IRM sealing application. Each month, an employee’s payslip is sealed with the same item code, so you do not need to keep amending the list of items that the user has access to – they have access to all documents that carry their employee code.

• Create method to handle multiple types of controls

- by Praesagus
I am trying to create a method that accepts multiple types of controls - in this case Labels and Panels. The conversion does not work because IConvertible doesn't convert these Types. Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance public void LocationsLink<C>(C control) { if (control != null) { WebControl ctl = (WebControl)Convert.ChangeType(control, typeof(WebControl)); Literal txt = new Literal(); HyperLink lnk = new HyperLink(); txt.Text = "If you prefer a map to the nearest facility please "; lnk.Text = "click here"; lnk.NavigateUrl = "/content/Locations.aspx"; ctl.Controls.Add(txt); ctl.Controls.Add(lnk); } }

• Android MediaPlayer crashing app

- by user1555863
I have an android app with a button that plays a sound. the code for playing the sound: if (mp != null) { mp.release(); } mp = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.match); mp.start(); mp is a field in the activity: public class Game extends Activity implements OnClickListener { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ //variables: MediaPlayer mp; //... The app runs ok, but after clicking the button about 200 times on the emulator, app crashed and gave me this error https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5488790/error.txt (couldn't figure how to post it here so it will appear decently) i am assuming this is because the MediaPlayer object is consuming up too much memory, but isn't mp.release() supposed to take care of this? What am i doing wrong here?

• Reflection, invoke

- by Alaa'
Hi, I have a dll file, and i took an object from it and called the functions inside this dll by the object, like this way: Command testClass = (Command)assembly.CreateInstance(creatObject); testClass.Execute(); anyway, the i used reflection from some reason. so i need to use invoke function & set values for variables, then calling the basic function Execute. Before: i wrote the following: object returnValue = objectType.GetMethod("setValues").Invoke(classObject, arguments); testClass.Execute(); but it wasnt useful for me. i used the following: object returnValue = objectType.GetMethod("setValues").Invoke(classObject, arguments); object returnValue1 = objectType.GetMethod("Execute").Invoke(classObject, null); i just want to ask if this is right, to calling the execute in this way, and by the way it works! Thank you.

• problem with trying to create ssms add-in

- by Karl
I'm trying to create an add-in for SSMS 2008 and/or 2008 R2 but I've run into a problem straight away. I can get my add-in to work and on SSMS start-up get it to simply show a message box. However, after downloading various code-samples, when trying to reference Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.VSIntegration.ServiceCache I get a null reference exception: Commands2 commands = (Commands2)ServiceCache.ExtensibilityModel.Commands; I get this problem when using SSMS 2008 or SSMS 2008 R2. I'm working on Visual Studio 2010. It's a bit frustrating because I'm keen to learn more about SSMS add-ins but can't seem to get past the few samples out there. Any advice/tips appreciated. Thanks

• C# - Removing items from lists and all references to them.

- by LiamV
Hi there, I'm facing a situation where I have dependent objects and I would like to be able to remove an object and all references to it. Say I have an object structure like the code below, with a Branch type which references two Nodes. public class Node { // Has Some Data! } public class Branch { // Contains references to Nodes public Node NodeA public Node NodeB } public class Graph { public List<Node> Nodes; public List<Branch> Branches; } If I remove a Node from the Nodes list in the Graph class, it is still possible that one or more Branch objects still contains a reference to the removed Node, thus retaining it in memory, whereas really what I would quite like would be to set any references to the removed Node to null and let the garbage collection kick in. Other than enumerating through each Branch and checking each Node reference sequentially, are there any smart ideas on how I remove references to the Node in each Branch instance AND indeed any other class which reference the removed Node? Much appreciated, Liam

• Accents in file name using Java on Solaris

- by Stef
I have a problem where I can't write files with accents in the file name on Solaris. Given following code public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Charset = "+ Charset.defaultCharset().toString()); System.out.println("testéörtkuoë"); FileWriter fw = null; try { fw = new FileWriter("testéörtkuoë"); fw.write("testéörtkuoëéörtkuoë"); fw.close(); I get following output Charset = ISO-8859-1 test??rtkuo? and I get a file called "test??rtkuo?" Based on info I found on StackOverflow, I tried to call the Java app by adding "-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8" at startup. This returns following output Charset = UTF-8 testéörtkuoë But the filename is still "test??rtkuo?" Any help is much appreciated. Stef

• How to establish a two-way communication between Activity and Service in different process?

- by steff
Hi everyone, I'm working on establishing a two-way communication between an Activity and a Service which runs in a different process. Querying the process from the Activity is no big deal. But I want the process to notify the Activity on events. The idea behind it is this: the service runs independently from the actual app. It queries a webserver periodically. If a new task is found on the webserver the process should notify the activity. I found this thread over at AndDev.org but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've been messing around with BroadcastReceiver. I've implemented an interface which should notify the Activity but the problem is that the listener is always null since the Broadcast from the process is done via Intent, hence the class that extends BroadcastReceiver will be newly instantiated. How can I establish a 2-way communication? This has to be possible. Thanks for any help, steff

• attaching linq to sql datacontext to httpcontext in business layer

- by rap-uvic
Hello all, I need my linq to sql datacontext to be available across my business/data layer for all my repository objects to access. However since this is a web app, I want to create and destroy it per request. I'm wondering if having a singleton class that can lazily create and attach the datacontext to current HttpContext would work. My question is: would the datacontext get disposed automatically when the request ends? Below is the code for what I'm thinking. Would this accomplish my purpose: have a thread-safe datacontext instance that is lazily available and is automatically disposed when the request ends? public class SingletonDC { public static NorthwindDataContext Default { get { NorthwindDataContext defaultInstance = (NorthwindDataContext)System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items["datacontext"]; if (defaultInstance == null) { defaultInstance = new NorthwindDataContext(); System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items.Add("datacontext", defaultInstance); } return defaultInstance; } } }

Hi All, Here is my code which is doing the conversion from hex to decimal. The hex values are stored in a unsigned char array: int liIndex ; long hexToDec ; unsigned char length[4]; for (liIndex = 0; liIndex < 4 ; liIndex++) { length[liIndex]= (unsigned char) *content; printf("\n Hex value is %.2x", length[liIndex]); content++; } hexToDec = strtol(length, NULL, 16); Each array element contains 1 byte of information and I have read 4 bytes. When I execute it, here is the output that I get : Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 01 Chunk length is 0 Can any one please help me understand the error here. Th decimal value should have come out as 1 instead of 0. Regards, darkie

• AS3 TextField - unwanted carriage return when setting value to ""

- by jevinkones
I have an input TextField and have a KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN even listener on the stage to listen for the Keyboard.ENTER event. The event listener adds the entered text to an array or whatever, and then clears the TextField. The problem is that when the Enter key event fires and the TextField value is set to "", it leaves a carriage return in the TextField and the cursor positioned on the second line. WTF? I've been coding AS2 and AS3 for a LONG time and have never ran into this before. Am I losing my mind? Please help, people! :-) Example: var myTextArray:Array = new Array(); stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, onKeyDown); function onKeyDown(e:KeyboardEvent):void{ if(e.keyCode == Keyboard.ENTER){ if(_inputText.text != null){ myTextArray.push(_inputText.text); } _inputText.text = ""; } }

• Convert data retrieved from MySQL database into JSON object using Python/Django

- by rohanbk
I have a MySQL database called People which contains the following schema <id,name,foodchoice1,foodchoice2>. The database contains a list of people and the two choices of food they wish to have at a party (for example). I want to create some kind of Python web-service that will output a JSON object. An example of output should be like: { "guestlist": [ {"id":1,"name":"Bob","choice1":"chicken","choice2":"pasta"},{"id":2,"name":"Alice","choice1":"pasta","choice2":"chicken"} ], "partyname": "My awesome party", "day": "1", "month": "June", "2010": "null" } Basically every guest is stored into a dictionary 'guestlist' along with their choices of food. At the end of the JSON object is just some additional information that only needs to be mentioned once. The question that I have is regarding the method that I need to utilize to grab the data from my database, and create the JSON object. Do I need to use a standard Model/View structure of Django or can I get away with something that is much simpler since what I need to do is really simple?

• ANDing javascript objects together

- by Jonas
I ran across this chunk of code (modified) in our application, and am confused to how it works: function someObject() { this.someProperty = {}; this.foo = { bar: { baz: function() { return "Huh?" } } }; this.getValue = function() { return (this.someProperty && this.foo.bar && this.foo.bar.baz && this.foo.bar.baz()) || null; } } function test() { var o = new someObject(); var val = o.getValue(); alert(val); } when you call the test() function, the text "Huh?" is alerted. I'm not sure how the result of getValue is returning that, I would've thought doing A && B && C && D would have returned true, rather than the value of D.

• How to simulate browser file upload with HttpWebRequest

- by cucicov
Hi, guys, first of all thanks for your contributions, I've found great responses here. Yet I've ran into a problem I can't figure out and if someone could provide any help, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm developing this application in C# that could upload an image from computer to user photoblog. For this I'm usig pixelpost platform for photoblogs that is written mainly in PHP. I've searched here and on other web pages, but the exmples provided there didn't work for me. Here is what I used in my example: (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/566462/upload-files-with-httpwebrequest-multipart-form-data) and (http://bytes.com/topic/c-sharp/answers/268661-how-upload-file-via-c-code) Once it is ready I will make it available for free on the internet and maybe also create a windows mobile version of it, since I'm a fan of pixelpost. here is the code I've used: string formUrl = "http://localhost/pixelpost/admin/index.php?x=login"; string formParams = string.Format("user={0}&password={1}", "user-String", "password-String"); string cookieHeader; HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(formUrl); req.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; req.Method = "POST"; req.AllowAutoRedirect = false; byte[] bytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(formParams); req.ContentLength = bytes.Length; using (Stream os = req.GetRequestStream()) { os.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length); } HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)req.GetResponse(); cookieHeader = resp.Headers["Set-Cookie"]; string pageSource; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(resp.GetResponseStream())) { pageSource = sr.ReadToEnd(); Console.WriteLine(); } string getUrl = "http://localhost/pixelpost/admin/index.php"; HttpWebRequest getRequest = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(getUrl); getRequest.Headers.Add("Cookie", cookieHeader); HttpWebResponse getResponse = (HttpWebResponse)getRequest.GetResponse(); using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(getResponse.GetResponseStream())) { pageSource = sr.ReadToEnd(); } // end first part: login to admin panel long length = 0; string boundary = "----------------------------" + DateTime.Now.Ticks.ToString("x"); HttpWebRequest httpWebRequest2 = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://localhost/pixelpost/admin/index.php?x=save"); httpWebRequest2.ContentType = "multipart/form-data; boundary=" + boundary; httpWebRequest2.Method = "POST"; httpWebRequest2.AllowAutoRedirect = false; httpWebRequest2.KeepAlive = false; httpWebRequest2.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; httpWebRequest2.Headers.Add("Cookie", cookieHeader); Stream memStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); byte[] boundarybytes = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\r\n--" + boundary + "\r\n"); string formdataTemplate = "\r\n--" + boundary + "\r\nContent-Disposition: form-data; name=\"{0}\";\r\n\r\n{1}"; string formitem = string.Format(formdataTemplate, "headline", "image-name"); byte[] formitembytes = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(formitem); memStream.Write(formitembytes, 0, formitembytes.Length); memStream.Write(boundarybytes, 0, boundarybytes.Length); string headerTemplate = "\r\nContent-Disposition: form-data; name=\"{0}\"; filename=\"{1}\"\r\nContent-Type: application/octet-stream\r\n\r\n"; string header = string.Format(headerTemplate, "userfile", "path-to-the-local-file"); byte[] headerbytes = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(header); memStream.Write(headerbytes, 0, headerbytes.Length); FileStream fileStream = new FileStream("path-to-the-local-file", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int bytesRead = 0; while ((bytesRead = fileStream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) != 0) { memStream.Write(buffer, 0, bytesRead); } memStream.Write(boundarybytes, 0, boundarybytes.Length); fileStream.Close(); httpWebRequest2.ContentLength = memStream.Length; Stream requestStream = httpWebRequest2.GetRequestStream(); memStream.Position = 0; byte[] tempBuffer = new byte[memStream.Length]; memStream.Read(tempBuffer, 0, tempBuffer.Length); memStream.Close(); requestStream.Write(tempBuffer, 0, tempBuffer.Length); requestStream.Close(); WebResponse webResponse2 = httpWebRequest2.GetResponse(); Stream stream2 = webResponse2.GetResponseStream(); StreamReader reader2 = new StreamReader(stream2); Console.WriteLine(reader2.ReadToEnd()); webResponse2.Close(); httpWebRequest2 = null; webResponse2 = null; and also here is the PHP: (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3149888/index.php) and (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3149888/new_image.php) the mandatory fields are headline and userfile so I can't figure out where the mistake is, as the format sent in right. I'm guessing there is something wrong with the octet-stream sent to the form. Maybe it's a stupid mistake I wasn't able to trace, in any case, if you could help me that would mean a lot. thanks,

I need to generate a random alpha/numeric to give to users that they come to the site to enter. I dont' know much about random numbers and such, I know there are seeding issues and such, but I'm not sure what they are. So, I used this: select substrING(md5(concat_ws('-',md5(username_usr), MD5(zip_usr), MD5(id_usr), MD5(created_usr))),-12) from users_usr Is this safe? I used concat_ws because sometimes zip is null, but the others never are. And yes, I know this is kinda short, but 1. They have to enter the last 4 of their social, 2. It's 1 time use, 3. There's no private data displayed back in the application and 4. I may use captcha, but since there's no private data, thats probably overkill. THanks
