• How to pass EventArgument information from view to view model in WPF?

  I have ListView control in my application which is binded to the collection of CustomObject List<CustomObject. The CustomObject has seperate view. This ListView has seperate view model. The collection List _customobject is containted in the ListView ViewModel class. My Query: I want to invoke a view that show properties of custom object, when user double click on any row of ListView. The ListView double click command is binded to the ListViewDoublClick Command in the view model. The CustomObject is in the event argument of listview double click command. To acheive this I have to pass the custom object ( or an unique id property of custom object through which I can retrieve the custom object from the collection) as command parameter. Please suggest me the solution!!

  Hi, I have a wpf datagrid with many rows, each row has some specific behaviors like selection changed of column 1 combo will filter column 2 combo, and what is selected in row 1 column 1 combo cannot be selected in row 2 column 1 combo, etc... So I am thinking of having a view model for the main datagrid, and another for each row. Is that a good MVVM implementation? It is so that I can handle each row's change event effectively. Question is, how do I create "each row" as a user control view? within the datagrid. I want to implement something like this: <TreeView Padding="0,4,12,0"> <controls:CommandTreeViewItem Header="Sales Orders" Command="{Binding SelectViewModelCommand}" CommandParameter="Sales Orders"/> </TreeView> Where instead of a TreeView I want a datagrid, and instead of controls:CommandTreeViewItem a datagrid row in WPF.   For reasons beyond my control, I'm being tasked with Ruby web development that does NOT use Rails or really any other heavyweight framework such as Merb. I'm wondering if anybody else has encountered this and can recommend best practices or resources that describe best practices for such a problem. I'd like to avoid the dreaded out.print('<td class="foo">'+some_data+'</td>') style of web development. A coworker has suggested Rack as a light framework but the documentation is sketchy and it seems unproven in the market.

• Programmatically retrieve disconnected network adapter information in .NET

  I have an application written in C# that needs to retrieve information like IP address, subnet mask from a disconnected network adapter. I've tried using various methods such as WMI and the .NET NetworkAdapter class but they don't return any useful data when the network adapter is disconnected. I'm pretty sure Windows keeps this information somewhere, since I can apply network settings using netsh and it appears correctly in the Control Panel. One thing that worked for me in XP was to parse the output of the netsh tool and it would return information even for a disconnected adapter. However, this doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Win XP output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 5" DHCP enabled: No IP Address: 169.254.0.128 SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0 InterfaceMetric: 0 Win7 output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 2" DHCP enabled: No InterfaceMetric: 5 Any ideas?

  I was reading this article - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd419663.aspx And I came across this piece of code in the WPF Demo application that came with the article. This template applies a CustomerView to an instance of the CustomerViewModel class shown in the main window. <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:CustomerViewModel}"> <vw:CustomerView /> </DataTemplate> I substituted the angle brackets for square brackets - not sure how to post them. The code is in the MainWindowResourses.xaml and the code starts on line 19. Anyone know how I can do this in Silverlight ?? We don't have the DataType and I need to be able to tell the app that this View is associated with this ViewModel - so I can create a tab control with different view like the demo app. Cheers, EC

Currently,I know how to do a lazy implementation of the loading procedure of the nodes in a treeview control, and read the related questions in stackoverflow, but I'm also reading about IHierarchyData and IHierarchicalEnumerable interfaces in asp.net (I didn't know to code asp.net) that allow to bind a collection to a treeview in order to display the items automatically. It would like to know if I can do the same in winforms and C#. I think that the interfaces previous mentioned are not available in winforms. Thanks.

Product and LocatorID are, in combination, the primary key. I'm guessing that EF is not allowing me to generate a new item without meeting database contraints? How does this make sense if I need to obtain a primary key from the user? I have control over all tiers of the application, so suggestions on database design if needed are also welcomed.

• Wireless card power management

  I have noticed that when my computer in plugged in, the wireless strength increases. I'm assuming this is to do with power management. Is there a way to disable Wireless Power Management? I have found a few blog posts that show hacks to disable this but what is best practice here? Should there not be an option via the power menu that lets you toggle this?   Using the VS 2008 GDR update, I have created a database project. I have created a SQL Server deployment package. I have created a database unit test. Using some wizards, the stuff got into my tfsbuild.proj file so near the end of the automated build process a database is created. I lack a little control of the whole process, I now see. What I would like to do is manually deploy the DB, run 3 custom scripts against the DB, and then manually start the DB unit test. I have other non-DB unit tests that already run. I do not want to use VSMDI or ordered unit test stuff because in out multi-developer environment it gets messy. Help!

  I have the same initial problem as described in Integrate NSStepper with NSTextField: I need to have a NSTextField working with a NSStepper as being one control so that I can edit an integer value either by changing it directly on the text field or using the stepper up/down arrows. Using bindings as commented on by carlosb results in a usable UI. However, in the initial question carlosb describes the following: Problem is that if I edit the text field then click the stepper again it will forget about the value I manually edited and use the stepper's internal value. This is why I am posting a variation on this question again. carlosb's use of bindings doesn't solve this problem. This happens in both the current project I am working on and a test project I have created. The test project can be found at GitHub. You can download it there (even without git) via the "Download Source" button in the top right. Is there a clean way to solve this issue?

• Java 64bit install throwing non compatible 64bit error in 64bit Windows 7

  JRE and JDK 64bit install executable are throwing a non compatible win32 error: jre_7u1_windows-x64bit.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I thought this could be a system environment variable problem, but from what I can tell it is not, the variable PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE is set as: AMD64 and the variable PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER is set as: Intel64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5, GenuineIntel I am not sure what variables the installer reads from if any. I have tried java 6 installer and the same thing. I can install other programs designed for a 64bit architecture and I have looked at Control PanelSystem and SecuritySystem: which is in fact "System type: 64-bit Operating System".

• Using Git with VB6

  Our company has a large codebase in VB6, and we currently use VSS which, for all that we hate about it, at least integrates into the VB6 IDE. My own team, which is using .NET, are now looking into alternative SCMs like my personal favourite, Git. With Git Extensions, it seems we will be able to integrate Git commands into the Visual Studio IDE pretty well. However, the question has been asked: could Git be used for our VB6 codebase too? Of course I assume the files themselves would work fine in git repositories, but no doubt developers would complain if they had to use the command-line to do all their source control. But has anyone had any experience using VB6 and Git? Any integration available from within the VB6 IDE? Or is it perhaps not that much of a hassle to not have the IDE integration? And do I get a badge for being the first to create the absurd tag combination of [vb6] and [git]?

  I've got a UI with a fairly standard look and feel. It has a column of icons on the left side which when clicked open a different user control on the right side. Currently I'm using separate controls for the selection icons and the usercontrol containment. I'm having strange focus issues that I am tired of trying to mitigate and am wondering if I could style a tabcontrol to look like my UI (under the assumption a tabcontrol would not have focus issues when navigating tabs). Here is a screenshot of the basic UI. The styling is mostly about how to get the tabcontrols page selection to look like my column of icons. Anyone want to throw their hat in the ring as to how I might accomplish this with a tabcontrol? My xaml is pretty weak at this point.

  First a little background. The z80 CPU has an instruction called DJNZ which can be used in a similar manner as a for loop. Basically DJNZ decrements the B register and jumps to a label if not zero. For example: ld b,96 ; erase all of the line disp_version_erase_loop: call _vputblank ; erase pixels at cursor (uses b reg) djnz disp_version_erase_loop ; loop Of course you can do the same thing using regular comparison and jump instructions, but often it is handy to use the single instruction. I'm storing a sequence of CGPoint structs in an NSArray, based on the points I get in the touchesBegin and touchesMoved messages. I now have the problem of how to make my sprite follow them. I have a tick method, that is called at the framerate speed. In that tick method, based on the speed and current position of the sprite, I need to calculate its next position. Is there any standard way to achieve this? My current approach is calculate the line between the last "reference point" and the next one, and calculate the next point in that line. The problem I have is when the sprite "turns" (moves from one segment of the line to another). Any hint will be greatly appreciated.

• OpenGL Game development for the Desktop / Platform issues

  Does anyone have experience writing professional OpenGL games on Windows? For the Mac, due to apple's control, the OS seems quite "uniform". For windows, due to different hardware, different drivers installed, etc ... the hardware base seems to have many many different configurations. In theory, OpenGL provides a API that abstracts all this away. In practice, many drivers are often buggy and have weird cases -- has this been a problem for developing games on Windows? Thanks!

• PHP's SimpleXML not handling &#8217 ; properly

  I'm parsing an RSS feed that has an &#8217; in it. SimpleXML turns this into a ’. What can I do to stop this? Just to answer some of the questions that have come up - I'm pulling an RSS feed using CURL. If I output this directly to the browser, the &#8217; displays as ’ which is what's expected. When I create a new SimpleXMLElement using this, (e.g. $xml = new SimpleXmlElement($raw_feed); and dump the $xml variable, every instance of &#8217; is replaced with ’. It appears that SimpleXML is having trouble with UTF-8 ampersand encoded characters. (The XML declaration specifies UTF-8.) I do have control over the feed after CURL has retrieved the feed before it's used to construct a SimpleXML element.

• How significant is the bazaar performance factor?

  I hear all this stuff about bazaar being slower than git. I haven't used too much distributed version control yet, but in Bazaar vs. Git on the bazaar site, they say that most complaints about performance aren't true anymore. Have you found this to be true? Is performance pretty much on par now? I've heard that speed can affect workflow (people are more likely to do good thing X if X is fast). What specific cases does performance currently affect workflow in bazaar vs other systems (especially git), and how? I'm just trying to get at why performance is of particular importance. Usually when I check something in or update it, I expect it to take a little while, but it doesn't matter. I commit/update when I have a second, so it doesn't interfere with my productivity. But then I haven't used DVCS yet, so maybe that has something to do with it?
