• Database Logon Error in crystal report

• String of KML needs to be converted to java objects

  I have a string of kml coming in on a request object. I have used xjc to create the kml java objects. I am looking for an easy way to create the kml nested java objects from this string. I could parse the string and create each object in the tree by hand but wouldn't it be cool if there was a library or something that would create the java objects for me? Something like KmlType type = parseKML(mykmlStringFromTheRequest); Then type would be a Tree of kml objects. Thanks for the help all.

• Python constructor does weird things with optional parameters

  Can you help me understand of the behaviour and implications of the python __init__ constructor. It seems like when there is an optional parameter and you try and set an existing object to a new object the optional value of the existing object is preserved and copied. Ok that was confusing... so look at an example I concocted below. In the code below I am trying to make a tree structure with nodes and possibly many children . In the first class NodeBad, the constructor has two parameters, the value and any possible children. The second class NodeGood only takes the value of the node as a parameter. Both have an addchild method to add a child to a node. When creating a tree with the NodeGood class, it works as expected. However, when doing the same thing with the NodeBad class, it seems as though a child can only be added once! The code below will result in the following output: Good Tree 1 2 3 [< 3 >] Bad Tree 1 2 2 [< 2 >, < 3 >] Que Pasa? • Quick / Built-in method for detecting table change in SQL Server?

  Is there a quick and easy way of telling if a table has changed in SQL Server? (I'm using SQL Server 2005). Something like an incrementing ID somewhere that updates on each INSERT, DELETE or UPDATE that I can keep track of. I noticed there is a sys.objects.modify_date column for each table, but I don't think it's quite what I want because the docs say: Date the object was last modified by using an ALTER statement. If the object is a table or a view, modify_date also changes when a clustered index on the table or view is created or altered.

My question is this, is it ok or common practice in Java for some members to not affect equals and hashcode? How will this affect its use in my ArrayList? What type of java Collections would it NOT be safe to use this object now that it is mutable? I've been told that you're not supposed to override equals on mutable objects because it causes some collections to behave "strangely" (I read that somewhere in the java documentation).

If the connection is successful, I can verify that ServerConnection.ConnectTimeout is set to 2 (seconds), but when I supply a bogus name for the SQL Server instance, it still attempts to connect to it for ~ 15 seconds (which is I believe the default timeout value). Does anyone have experience with setting SMO connection timeout? Thank you in advance.

• How to restrict text search to a certain subset of the database ?

  I have a large central database of around 1 million heavy records. In my app, for every user I would have a subset of rows from central table, which would be very small (probably 100 records each).When a particular user has logged in , I would want to search on this data set only. Example: Say I have a central database of all cars in the world. I have a user profile for General Motors(GM) , Ferrari etc. When GM is logged in I just want to search(a full text search and not fire a sql query) for those cars which are manufactured by GM. Also GM may launch/withdraw a model in which case central db would be updated & so would be rowset associated with GM. In case of acquisitions, db of certain profiles may change without launch/removal of new car. So central db wont change then , but rowsets may. Whats the best way to implement such a design ? These smaller row sets would need to be dynamic depending on user activities. We are on Rails 2.3.5 and use thinking_sphinx as the connector and Sphinx/MySQL for search and relational associations.

• Xml files stop being served by IIS6 after allowing .net to process the .xml extension

  I added a route into my site to allow for a sitemap and everything worked fine in IIS7 but once I deployed the route stopped working. Since the live server is running IIS6 I needed to put a new mapping in for .xml to be processed by .net and then it started to work. My issue though is on every other xml file on the site now. I keep getting a 404 error when trying to view xml files, but the sitemap.xml route works. Is this a routing issue or an IIS setup issue? • Regexp to extract sources from different video embeds

  My SMF forum contains posts with video and I want to extract them to show on the Wordpress main page. My current regexp (thanks to SO!) extracts the url of the videos, which I embed using AutoEmbed. Everything works up until a post looks like this: <embed height="600" width="600" allowscriptaccess="never" quality="high" loop="true" play="true" src="http://mmavlog.net/embed/player.swf?file=http://video.ufc.tv/CSG/UFC113/20100507_ufc113_weigh_in_400k.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> Here is my current regexp: $regexp = "/\b(?:(?:https?|ftp):\/\/|www\.)[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]/i"; Since the posts can contain <embed> or <object> I realize that looking for the url by the "http" might be inaccurate. How can I use the regexp to look for "src=" for <embed> and "data=" for <object>?

Great. But while doing some research for speeding up my database access, I ran into this blog post... Improving Entity Framework Performance The post argues that EFs poor performance compared to other frameworks is often due to the EntityConnection object being created each time a new EntityContext object is needed. To test this I manually created a static EntityConnection in Global.asax.cs Application_Start(). I then converted all my context using statements to using( MyObjContext currContext = new MyObjeContext(globalStaticEFConnection) { .... } This seems to have sped things up a bit without any errors so far as far as I can tell. But is this safe? Does using a applicationwide static EntityConnection introduce race conditions? Best regards, Kervin

• mvc 2.0 updatemodel and my ID Column

  Hello, I have created a create view within my MVC 2.0 Application and by default it included a field for the integer ID Column. This is definitely a field i do not need. If i remove the field and use updatemodel when trying to create the object in code, will something break because it doesnt see my ID column data being passed in, even though it is auto increment? Also, i noticed that in the NerdDinner example, updatemodel was used and after that the repository.save method was called. I thought that updatemodel would save the object to the database..why then call the .save method afterwards? Or have i missed something? Any help with this would be appreciated. Cheers

• C# problem with two threads and hardware access

  I'm creating an application which communicates with the device via FT2232H USB/RS232 converter. For communication I'm using FTD2XX_NET.dll library from FTDI website. I'm using two threads: first thread continuously reads data from the device the second thread is the main thread of the Windows Form Application I've got a problem when I'm trying to write any data to the device while the receiver's thread is running. The main thread simply hangs up on ftdiDevice.Write function. I tried to synchronize both threads so that only one thread can use Read/Write function at the same time, but it didn't help. Below code responsible for the communication. Note that following functions are methods of FtdiPort class. • How to get equivalent of ResultSetMetaData without ResultSet

  Hey Guys - I need to resolve a bunch of column names to column indexes (so as to use some of the nice ResultSetMetaData methods). However, the only way that I know how to get a ResultSetMetaData object is by calling getMetaData() on some ResultSet. The problem I have with that is that grabbing a ResultSet takes up uneccesary resources in my mind - I don't really need to query the data in the table, I just want some information about the table. Does anyone know of any way to get a RSMD object without getting a ResultSet (from a potentially huge table) first? Thanks!

• In VisualStudio 2008, emacs mode - how can you enable "overwrite"?

  Using VisualStudio 2008, have emacs keyboard mapping scheme enabled. If I select text and try to paste over it, it INSERTS the new text, rather than replacing it. Also, if I select text and hit DELETE it deletes the first character AFTER the selected text (just as if I didn't have any text selected). Does anyone know how to fix this so that I get the standard windows behavior. That is: If I select text and try to paste over it, it replaces the selected text with what I pasted in. If I select text and hit the DELETE key, it actually deletes the text I have selected Thanks! Abby

• Please suggest some alternative to Drupal

  Drupal propose completely different approach in web development (comparing with RoR like frameworks) and it is extremely good from development speed perspective. For example, it is quite easy to clone 90% of stackoverflow functionality using Drupal. But it has several big drawbacks: it is f''cking slow (100-400 requests per page) db structure very complicated, need at least 2 tables for easy content (entity) type, CCK fields very easy generate tons of new db tables anti-object oriented, rather aspect-oriented bad "view" layer implementation, no strange forward layouts and so on. After all this items I can say I like Drupal, but I would like something same, but more elegant and more object oriented. Probably something like http://drupy.net/ - drupal emulation on the top of django. P.S. I wrote this question not for new holy word flame, just write if you know alternative that uses something similar approach.

I use springactionscript 1.0RC1 and found an error as following: Error: A class with the name 'org.springextensions.actionscript.ioc.factory.con fig.flex.FlexPropertyPlaceholderConfigurer' could not be found. Are you sure the specified class has been compiled? Look for more information on this topic here: http://www.springactionscript.org/do...inclusion.html and my applicationContext.xml is <objects> <property file="config.properties" required="false" /> <object id="constants" class="com.libsys.utils.Constants"> <property name="endpoint" value="${endpoint}" /> </object> </objects> If the xml file has no properties file, it works fine. I don't know how this happens, could you tell me how to solve it? Thank you! BTW, my compiler version is 4.1.0.14632 and springactionscrip is 1.0RC1.

  I used the following codes to embed my videos(swf and flv) in the following code with the player. But this is working fine in ie and not working in firefox. • ASP.NET 1.0 site error after upgrade to VS.NET 2010

  Help. I installed VS.NET 2010 and now my existing ASP.NET MVC application won't run. I checked that the 1.0 version of System.Web.Mvc is still referenced but when I browse my application, I get an error like this: "Compiler Error Message: CS1579: foreach statement cannot operate on variables of type 'object' because 'object' does not contain a public definition for 'GetEnumerator'". My partial view has this declaration: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<List<ProductModel" %> //various import statements <div <% foreach (var category in Model.Categories) { % <span<%= category.Name %</span <span<%= category.Market%</span <% } % </div For what it's worth, the source view shows ViewUserControl in red and gives a tool tip reading "Cannot resolve symbol 'ViewUserControl'". My working code didn't change, the only delta is that I upgraded to VS.NET 2010 (which includes MVC 2.0); I'm sure something is not referenced correctly but I cannot figure out what's going on.
