My merge module will be used with an MSI that is built bi-weekly. These bi-weekly MSIs need to co-exist on the same machine as separate installations (e.g. versions 1, 2, 3, etc...) Do I need to change the package GUID of my merge module for each bi-weekly MSI build?

• Issue with WIC image resizing on ASP.NET MVC 2

  I am attempting to implement image resizing on user uploads in ASP.NET MVC 2 using a version of the method found: here on asp.net. This works great on my dev machine, but as soon as I put it on my production machine, I start getting the error 'Exception from HRESULT: 0x88982F60' which is supposed to mean that there is an issue decoding the image. However, when I use WICExplorer to open the image, it looks ok. I've also tried this with dozens of images of various sources and still get the error (though possible, I doubt all of them are corrupted). • WMIprvse process leaks memory on 2008 server R2

  I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running on a VM machine. My .NET service is running on this server periodically querying WMI, for example: SELECT ProcessId FROM Win32_Service WHERE ... After a day or two WMIprvse takes up to 500M memory and WMI queries start getting out of memory exceptions. This article seems to be talking about this issue: "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958124" I've seen other articles saying that Microsoft is aware of the problem and not going to issue a fix until the next major release. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxbcl/thread/256eb40c-d050-4278-a3d8-863e30db02a0 I'd appreciate any suggestions and insights on this.

• Linked servers SQLNCLI problem. "No transaction is active"

  Im trying to execute a stored procedure and simply insert its results in a temporary table, and I'm getting the following message: The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "MyServerName" was unable to begin a distributed transaction. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "MyServerName" returned message "No transaction is active.". My query looks like this: INSERT INTO #TABLE EXEC MyServerName.MyDatabase.dbo.MyStoredProcedure Param1, Param2, Param3 Exact column number, names, the problem is not the result. MSDTC is allowed and started in both computers, Remote procedure calling too. The machines are not in the same domain, but I can execute remote queries from my machine and get the result. I can even execute the stored procedure and see its results, I just can't insert it in another table. Help, please? :)

• Calling IPrincipal.IsInRole on Windows 7

  We use NTLM auth in our application to determine whether a user can perform certain operations. We use the IPrincipal of their current Windows login (in WinForms applications), calling IsInRole to check for specific group memberships. To check that a user is a local administrator on the machine, we use: AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); ... bool allowed = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.IsInRole(@"Builtin\Administrators") This works if the current user is the Administrator user, or is another user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group. In our testing on Windows 7, we have found that this no longer works as expected. The Administrator user still works fine, but any other user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group returns false for the IsInRole call. What could be causing this difference? I have a gut feeling that a default setting has changed somewhere (possible in gpedit), but cannot find anything that looks like the culprit.

• ASP.NET website not working properly in mobile

  I have created a simple app with a page having a server side form, three fields and a button that submits and performs two operations - 1) adds the form fields to the database table 2) sends an email. Now everything works fine on the web browser on my machine but when I access the app through my mobile, the page does not seem to work. the UI and all are set but the button click functionality doesnt seem to be working and also the label which is set after a successful submit is already visible and showing the "thank you" message. Am i doing something wrong here? I have checked the app on Nokia Smartphone browser, android phone, and iphone simulator.

I have seen a number of questions about the similar applications on the StackOverFlow, but none of them is related to the Testing, I want to know is how one can test the application in a development environment, specially How can we test that each customer connects to his own DB based on the URL. how can we emulate different domains on the local system. like abc.com and xyz.com all goes to dev machine's IIS. Any recommendations which might help us in the developing process of such an application.

• Oracle Linked Server error: ORA-12640: Authentication adapter initialization failed

  I have a linked server on SQL Server that talks to Oracle. Executing the following sql statement using Openquery SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(finance, 'select * from KFRI.VW_XREF_PROJECTS') will get error as the following: OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "finance" returned message "ORA-12640: Authentication adapter initialization failed". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "finance". I tried to set : SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE) in {$ORACLE_HOME}\NETWORK\ADMIN\sqlnet.ora. It did not help. What's interesting is my coworker is able to execute the exactly same query successfully on his machine without a hitch. Any tips on how to fix this is greatly appreciated!!

I am trying to point it to a db on a remote server. I have a feeling it is somewhere in IIS orthe Machine Config. I'd like to add it to my WEB.CONFIG Could someone help me to do this?

• MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault

  Folks, I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. I've tried all variations, including 3gpp and H.263 and reducing the video resolution to 320x240. What am I missing? The state machine causes 4 MediaPlayer beeps and then turns on the video camera. Here's the pertinent source: UPDATE: ADDING SURFACE CREATE INFO I have rebooted the device based on previous answer to similar question. UPDATE 2: I seem to be following the MediaRecorder state machine perfectly, and if I trap out the MR code, the blank surface displays perfectly and everything else functions perfectly. I can record videos manually and play back via MediaPlayer in my code, so there should be nothing wrong with the underlying code. I've copied sample code on the surface and surfaceHolder code. I've looked at the MR instance in the Debug perspective in Eclipse and see that all (known) variables seem to be instantiated correctly. The setter calls are all now implemented in the exaxct order specced in the state diagram.   Now that ASP.NET MVC 2 is out, I tried to install it on my development machine, which already has Visual Studio 2010 RC installed and I got this error message during installation Component Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 has failed to install with the following error message: "A different version of ASP.NET MVC 2 is already installed on your system. Please uninstall this version before proceeding with this install." Sure enough, the MVC 2 release notes state: Note Because Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 RC share a component of ASP.NET MVC 2, installing the ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM release on a computer where Visual Studio 2010 RC is also installed is not supported. So my question is, though officially unsupported, if I uninstall VS 2010 RC, install MVC 2 then re-install VS 2010 RC, might this work? And would I then be able to target MVC 2 in VS2010?

  When I upgraded my Web Deployment Project from VS2008 to the VS2010 beta version, I was able to execute the build locally on my development box. However, when I tried to execute the build on our TeamCity build server, I began getting the following exception: C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v10.0\Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets(162, 37): error MSB4086: A numeric comparison was attempted on "$(_SourceWebProjectPath.Length)" that evaluates to "" instead of a number, in condition "'$(_SourceWebProjectPath)' != '' And $(_SourceWebProjectPath.Length) >= 4)". I did install the Web Deployment Project addin on my build server and I did copy over the C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications directory on my development box to the C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\ directory on the build server. Note: My dev box is 64bit and the build server 32bit. I can't figure out why this is behaving differently on the build server than on my dev machine. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Steve

The temporary-files folder in *nix machines is "/tmp" ; would there be any Python method I could use to find out the temporary-files folder in a particular machine? If not, could someone suggest an alternative to this problem?

  Hello. I have a batch file named a.bat on a winserver2008 Desktop. That batch file only write the SessionID (from environment variable) to a local eventlog. I want to execute it remotely using cmd (otherwise the SessionName doesn't appear). so I have tried c:\PsTools\psexec.exe \\<Server> -u test2 -p <Password> -i 2 cmd "c:\Users\test-2\Desktop\a" or c:\PsTools\psexec.exe \\<server> -u test2 -p <Password> -i 2 "cmd \"c:\Users\test-2\Desktop\a\"";exit all of these just open a terminal on the remote machine but don't execute the batch.   This may be a duplicate, though I can't find it at this time. If so please point me in the right direction. I recently purchased an authenticode certificate from globalsign and am having problems signing my files for deployment. There are a couple of .exe files that are generated by a project and then put into a .msi. When I sign the .exe files with the signtool the certificate is valid and they run fine. The problem is that when I build the .msi (using the visual studio setup project) the .exe files loose their signatures. So I can sign the .msi after it is built, but the installed .exe files continue the whole "unknown publisher" business. How can I retain the signature on these files for installation on the client machine? You help is appreciated. -Alex

• jQuery validations not working in IE 7?

  I have a problem. The client is claiming that a prize signup form I built for them is not working in IE 7. It works in IE 8 just fine which they agree about, but in IE 7 it doesn't. (luckily they don't care about IE 6). I was hoping someone could help me debug it since I don't have access to a machine with IE 7 (I work on a Mac). For years I've been using c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\, even for Delphi 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010, like this: c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\AggPas\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\DeHL\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\DevExpress\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\FastCode\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\FastMM\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\Fundamentals\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\Graphics32\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\JCL\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\JVCL\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\OmniThread\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\Raize\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\TeeChartPro\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\TurboPower\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\VirtualTreeView\ c:\program files\borland\delphi7\lib\Zeos\ However, nowadays I don't even use Delphi7 anymore (what can it do that 2010 can't?), so this path doesn't make much sense anymore. I'm about to install windows7 on my home machine, so I'm thinking on something like this: c:\src\DelphiLib\ Any better ideas?

  Hi All, I have a question regarding how to "gracefully exit SLIME", when I quit Emacs. However, every time I exit, I still get the prompt: Proc Status Buffer Command ---- ------ ------ ------- SLIME Lisp open *cl-connection* (network stream connection to 127.0.0.1) inferior-lisp run *inferior-lisp* /usr/local/bin/sbcl Active processes exist; kill them and exit anyway? (yes or no) Can someone shed some insight as to what I'm missing from my config? Thanks in advance.

• "The application has failed to start because cxcore210.dll was not found". Whats up with that?

  I'm having trouble running basic opencv scripts on my new machine. I've installed opencv2.1. I am linking these files: C:\OpenCV2.1\lib\cv210.lib C:\OpenCV2.1\lib\cvaux210.lib C:\OpenCV2.1\lib\cxcore210.lib C:\OpenCV2.1\lib\highgui210.lib from the linker. I run the program, it compiles. However, it gives me the error stated above. Why is that? I tried linking to the dll it describes, and it doesn't like that either.
