• Attach data to Richtext using flex, mysql and php(newbie)

  I'm trying to attach data to a richtext field in Flashbuilder. The data is an html string in a mysql database and I'm connecting using php. The php script is just converting to XML. The connection works because I can easily dump the data to a datagrid and I can see the string. when I try to hook the data to a Richtext field I get "object CallResponder" so I am connected, but I'm not sure how to break it down so that it is just an html string for the text field.   I have a HTTPService in my Flex 4 app that I call like this: getUserDetails.send(userLookup.text); In my Ruby on Rails method that this is linked to, how do I refer to the userLookup.text parameter? The method is as follows, with XXX as the placeholder: def getDetails @user = User.first (:conditions => "username = XXX") render :xml => @user end UPDATE: Is this way correct? I found it here. • validation in javascript - remove the error msg on focus

• Would Apache running on port 8080 prevent dynamically loaded scripts in JavaScript?

  Had a nice PHP/HTML/JS prototype working on my personal Linode, then tried to throw it into a work machine. The page adds a script tag dynamically with some JavaScript. It's a bunch of Google charts that update based on different timeslices. But this code worked fine on my personal dev server, so I'm wondering why it wouldn't work on this new machine. The only difference in setup, from what I can tell, is that the new machine is running on port 8080, so it's 192.168.blah.blah:8080/index.php instead of nicedomain.com/index.php. I see the code was indeed added to the dom when I use webmaster tools to "view generated source" but in Firebug I get an error like "function2() is undefined" even though my understanding was that all script tags are eval'ed when added to . My question: Given what I've laid out, and that the machine is running on :8080, is there a reason anyone can think of as to why a dynamically loaded function like function2() would be defined on the Linode and not on the machine running Apache on 8080?

  I need to replace a package with a custom one, which gets its own name (foo-origpackage). To allow it to be used as drop-in replacement, I added the Provides: origpackage line to the control file. apt-cache show foo-origpackage lists the "Provides" entry just fine. However, when I want to install a file depending on origpackage, it fails ("Package origpackage not installed"). Is there some distinction between "real" and virtual packages I'm missing? • YUI Calendar: Skinning and CSS

  I'm using YUI 2's calendar in YUI 3. I want to make a few minor changes to the default sam skin. What is the best way to do that? Also, how does it load Sam's skin CSS? I didn't manually include it (though it seems like I should so the user can download it in the one request I make to the combo loader for css?). The main problem I'm having is that it seems to dynamically load the Sam's skin, so any CSS I specify in my stylesheet or in the <head> section seem to be overridden. I can modify the style by getting the nodes and using YUI's Node.setStyle() method, but this doesn't seem like the best way to do things. Note: The script does include more than I need for just YUI 2's calendar, but that's because I use YUI 3 for other things irrelevant to this question.

• IE and Content-disposition inline vs. extension-token

  Preamble So IE does Mime-Type sniffing. That part's old news. Suggestions of how to combat it tend to be along the lines of 'supply a content-type IE trusts' (i.e. anything that isn't text/plain or application/octet-stream) or 'add extraneous data at the start of the file that is definitely of the type you're serving'. Now, I'm working on an application that has to allow message attachments (like in e-mails), and we want to close up XSS vectors. IE's mime sniffing is one of those vectors - a text/plain file with html content will trigger as html. Recoding isn't an option at this point, changing the attachments the user has provided can only happen if there is absolutely no doubt about the maliciousness of the file - and someone might want to send HTML as text. Now, Microsoft's MSDN article implies the situation might be easier to fix than advertised: If Internet Explorer knows the Content-Type specified and there is no Content-Disposition data, Internet Explorer performs a "MIME sniff," [...] Great! Except I don't have IE nor current means to reliably install it (I realise this is a fairly sad state for a webdeveloper to be in, I hope to fix this soon) and this is grey theory that I can't quite seem to get confirmed one way or the other. Local sources say that line is hogwash - IE will mime sniff anything that is Content-Disposition: inline / <default> and not specific enough for its tastes in -Type. But what about x-* ('extension-token' in the RFC)? Trying to google for how browsers handle Content-Disposition: <extension-token> hasn't yielded anything (though I may just be doing it wrong, my understanding of Google is seriously slipping lately). I found one question that looked promising, but turned out to be a misunderstanding on side of the thread author, meaning that the train of thought was never actually addressed there. Question(s) Does IE really Mime sniff if you expressly pass Content-Disposition: inline? If so: Does anyone here know how browsers handle Content-Disposition: <extension-token>? If they do this in a way that is for my purposes benign, by presuming it to be synonymous with the default (effectively 'inline', though I hear it's not defined anywhere?), is it specific enough for IE not to Mime sniff? Or am I actually shooting myself in the foot by thinking of pursuing this avenue?

• Localize node texts in treeview using resource files

  For a project I need a tree view that allows the user to select a module, which then is displayed in a content area. The project relies heavily on localization and this is provided by the resource files. Now I discovered today, that the text that are assigned to preset tree view nodes are not contained in the resource files. So the question is whether there is a way of doing this, short of mapping the elemenst in code. I.e. assigning a name to the node, running over all nodes and pulling the resources from the resouce manager based on the node name. • Access 2007 VBA : Building a listbox with selection choices from another list box

  So there are 8 categories that may be associated to each order, but not necessarily all of them. So i was going to build a list box that allowed the user to double click each of the category they wish to associate when they have an "Order Detail" form opened up (unbound form that has hidden text boxes with all needed ID numbers). I want to have another empty text box right beside it that will allow me to append the selections (up to 8) so the user can see that they have been added. So one list box with the default choices, and when a choice is double clicked, it adds that choice to the second list box to see the tally so to speak. This works great unless there are nulls in the dataset. I tried to compensate for the nulls, but the RDLC file generates an error message that it can't display the subreport.   I am having an problem. First time working with a windows server, do you know if there is any problem in character coding? My document is set to content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" but it's giving me funny words... you can check it here. This site is a pure HTML with few includes but anything else is just HTML. I can convert them to HTML entities but that is basically wasting my time. I never had this problem with any website I did except for this. Some others said "The problems seems to be that you have converted the text into utf-8 twice.". But how would Coverted it twice since dreamweaver should convert it for me but in this case it doesn't.

  I'm developing a cms that allows editing everything on the page (generated server-side with a template engine) by just clicking on it — the area turns into input field, textarea or a full-featured tinyMCE editor, Template defines editable elements like "page heading", "copyright footer text", "image", "rich text block" etc. Along with that there's always a flotaing panel with several tabs, some of which contain general settings like page bacground color, font settings etc, but some are context sensitive (e.g., the clicking on "image" editable field triggers to display uploading/cropping/captioning interface in the floating panel). All settings in the panel are either simple inputs or sliders or checkboxes. I'm new to using MVC with javascript, and in fact haven't used it much before. jQuery is used as code library for the project. Should i use JavascriptMVC, SproutCore or anything else? Does any of them allow some kind of sandboxing (within bounds of commmon sense) to allow some javascript code by user-generated skins on my cms? thank you!

• IIS website is sending multiple content-type headers for zip files

  We have a problem with an IIS5 server. When certain users/browsers click to download .zip files, binary gibberish text sometimes renders in the browser window. The desired behavior is for the file to either download or open with the associated zip application. Initially, we suspected that the wrong content-type header was set on the file. The IIS tech confirmed that .zip files were being served by IIS with the mime-type "application/x-zip-compressed". However, an inspection of the HTTP packets using Wireshark reveals that requests for zip files return two Content-Type headers. Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Type: application/x-zip-compressed Any idea why IIS is sending two content-type headers? This doesn't happen for regular HTML or images files. It does happen with ZIP and PDF. Is there a particular place we can ask the IIS tech to look? Or is there a configuration file we can examine?

• Why is Magento 1.4 including javascript files by filesystem path?

  I am in the process of testing a Magento 1.3 site using Magento 1.4. I am seeing very weird and inconsistent behavior. Instead of including the URL of my javascript files, Magento is creating tags with the full filesystem path of the js files, as so: <script type="text/javascript" src="/home/my_username/public_html/js/prototype/prototype.js"></script> I believe this is related to the new "Themes JavaScript and CSS files combined to one file" function. In fact, when I log into the admin and click "Flush JavaScript/CSS Cache", then the first page load is successful, and I see a single JS include similar to: <script type="text/javascript" src="/media/js/5b8cfac152fcb2a5f93ef9571d338c54.js"></script> But subsequent age loads load every single JS file, with the full path names. Which obviously isn't going to work. Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong or how to fix this issue?

To make things worse: There is text, which already has quotation marks, so those must be escaped to be valid JSON. In this case I want the backslashes to be transmitted. Any idea to accomplish this?

  I have a situation where something can appear in a format as follows: ---id-H-- Header: data Another Header: more data Message: sdasdasdasd Message: asdasdasdasd Message: asdasdasd There may be many messages, or just a couple. I'd prefer not having to step outside of RegEx, because I am using the RegEx to parse some header information above the messages and the messages along with the headers are part of the text I am parsing. The messages attached into the text might be many. I would also like to use named capture groups, so something like Message: (?<Message[index of match]>.+) Where it matches the match as many times as it can with the index filled in. Does anything like this exist in RegEx? (I will eventually be using this in Perl)

  I want to use document.createDocumentFragment() to create an optimized collection of HTML elements that contain ".data" coming from jQuery (v 1.4.2), but I'm kind of stuck on how to get the data to surface from the HTML elements. Here's my code: var genres_html = document.createDocumentFragment(); $(xmlData).find('genres').each(function(i, node) { var genre = document.createElement('a'); $(genre).addClass('button') .attr('href', 'javascript:void(0)') .html( $(node).find('genreName:first').text() ) .data('genreData', { id: $(node).find('genreID:first').text() }); genres_html.appendChild( genre.cloneNode(true) ); }); $('#list').html(genres_html); // error: $('#list a:first').data('genreData') is null alert($('#list a:first').data('genreData').id); What am I doing wrong here? I suspect it's probably something with .cloneNode() not carrying over the data when the element is appended to the documentFragment. Sometimes there are tons of rows so I want to keep things pretty optimized, speed-wise. Thanks!
