  • How to Convert arrays or SimpleXML-Objects into an XML-String

    - by streetparade
    I want to create a xml from a given string, i have a function but i didn't wrote it.It seems a bit cryptical too. Can please some one review it and give me some Ideas, how it could be written clearer for everybody? /** * Converts arrays or SimpleXML-Objects into an XML-String * @params mixed Accepts an array or xml string with data to Post * @params integer DO NOT PROVIDE. Internal Usage for recursion only */ private function mixedDataToXML($data, $level = 1) { if(!$data){ return FALSE; } if(is_array($data)) { $xml = ''; if ($level==1) { $xml .= '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>'."\n"; } foreach ($data as $key => $value) { $key = strtolower($key); if (is_array($value)) { $multi_tags = false; foreach($value as $key2=>$value2) { if (is_array($value2)) { $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level)."<$key>\n"; $xml .= $this->mixedDataToXML($value2, $level+1); $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level)."</$key>\n"; $multi_tags = true; } else { if (trim($value2)!='') { if (htmlspecialchars($value2)!=$value2) { $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level). "<$key><![CDATA[$value2]]>". "</$key>\n"; } else { $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level). "<$key>$value2</$key>\n"; } } $multi_tags = true; } } if (!$multi_tags and count($value)>0) { $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level)."<$key>\n"; $xml .= $this->mixedDataToXML($value, $level+1); $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level)."</$key>\n"; } } else { if (trim($value)!='') { if (htmlspecialchars($value)!=$value) { $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level)."<$key>". "<![CDATA[$value]]></$key>\n"; } else { $xml .= str_repeat("\t",$level). "<$key>$value</$key>\n"; } } } } return $xml; }else{ return (string)$data; } }

  • Stepping into Ruby Meta-Programming: Generating proxy methods for multiple internal methods

    - by mstksg
    Hi all; I've multiply heard Ruby touted for its super spectacular meta-programming capabilities, and I was wondering if anyone could help me get started with this problem. I have a class that works as an "archive" of sorts, with internal methods that process and output data based on an input. However, the items in the archive in the class itself are represented and processed with integers, for performance purposes. The actual items outside of the archive are known by their string representation, which is simply number_representation.to_s(36). Because of this, I have hooked up each internal method with a "proxy method" that converts the input into the integer form that the archive recognizes, runs the internal method, and converts the output (either a single other item, or a collection of them) back into strings. The naming convention is this: internal methods are represented by _method_name; their corresponding proxy method is represented by method_name, with no leading underscore. For example: class Archive ## PROXY METHODS ## ## input: string representation of id's ## output: string representation of id's def do_something_with id result = _do_something_with id.to_i(36) return nil if result == nil return result.to_s(36) end def do_something_with_pair id_1,id_2 result = _do_something_with_pair id_1.to_i(36), id_2.to_i(36) return nil if result == nil return result.to_s(36) end def do_something_with_these ids result = _do_something_with_these ids.map { |n| n.to_i(36) } return nil if result == nil return result.to_s(36) end def get_many_from id result = _get_many_from id return nil if result == nil # no sparse arrays returned return result.map { |n| n.to_s(36) } end ## INTERNAL METHODS ## ## input: integer representation of id's ## output: integer representation of id's def _do_something_with id # does something with one integer-represented id, # returning an id represented as an integer end def do_something_with_pair id_1,id_2 # does something with two integer-represented id's, # returning an id represented as an integer end def _do_something_with_these ids # does something with multiple integer ids, # returning an id represented as an integer end def _get_many_from id # does something with one integer-represented id, # returns a collection of id's represented as integers end end There are a couple of reasons why I can't just convert them if id.class == String at the beginning of the internal methods: These internal methods are somewhat computationally-intensive recursive functions, and I don't want the overhead of checking multiple times at every step There is no way, without adding an extra parameter, to tell whether or not to re-convert at the end I want to think of this as an exercise in understanding ruby meta-programming Does anyone have any ideas? edit The solution I'd like would preferably be able to take an array of method names @@PROXY_METHODS = [:do_something_with, :do_something_with_pair, :do_something_with_these, :get_many_from] iterate through them, and in each iteration, put out the proxy method. I'm not sure what would be done with the arguments, but is there a way to test for arguments of a method? If not, then simple duck typing/analogous concept would do as well.

  • boost.asio error on read from socket.

    - by niXman
    The following code of the client: typedef boost::array<char, 10> header_packet; header_packet header; boost::system::error_code error; ... /** send header */ boost::asio::write( _socket, boost::asio::buffer(header, header.size()), boost::asio::transfer_all(), error ); /** send body */ boost::asio::write( _socket, boost::asio::buffer(buffer, buffer.length()), boost::asio::transfer_all(), error ); of the server: struct header { boost::uint32_t header_length; boost::uint32_t id; boost::uint32_t body_length; }; static header unpack_header(const header_packet& data) { header hdr; sscanf(data.data(), "%02d%04d%04d", &hdr.header_length, &hdr.id, &hdr.body_length); return hdr; } void connection::start() { boost::asio::async_read( _socket, boost::asio::buffer(_header, _header.size()), boost::bind( &connection::read_header_handler, shared_from_this(), boost::asio::placeholders::error ) ); } /***************************************************************************/ void connection::read_header_handler(const boost::system::error_code& e) { if ( !e ) { std::cout << "readed header: " << _header.c_array() << std::endl; std::cout << constants::unpack_header(_header); boost::asio::async_read( _socket, boost::asio::buffer(_body, constants::unpack_header(_header).body_length), boost::bind( &connection::read_body_handler, shared_from_this(), boost::asio::placeholders::error ) ); } else { /** report error */ std::cout << "read header finished with error: " << e.message() << std::endl; } } /***************************************************************************/ void connection::read_body_handler(const boost::system::error_code& e) { if ( !e ) { std::cout << "readed body: " << _body.c_array() << std::endl; start(); } else { /** report error */ std::cout << "read body finished with error: " << e.message() << std::endl; } } On the server side the method read_header_handler() is called, but the method read_body_handler() is never called. Though the client has written down the data in a socket. The header is readed and decoded successfully. What's the error?

  • 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener

    - by Chris
    I'm going through some AS3 training, but I'm getting a weird error... I'm trying to add an event listener to the end of a motion tween in AS. I've created a tween, highlighted the frames, right clicked and copied the tween as AS and pasted it into the movie clip (I think there's a better way to do this, but I'm not sure what it is...) When I try to add the listener to the end of that code, I get the error. Here's my code. import fl.motion.AnimatorFactory; import fl.motion.MotionBase; import fl.motion.Motion; import flash.filters.*; import flash.geom.Point; import fl.motion.MotionEvent; import fl.events.*; var __motion_Enemy_3:MotionBase; if(__motion_Enemy_3 == null) { __motion_Enemy_3 = new Motion(); __motion_Enemy_3.duration = 30; // Call overrideTargetTransform to prevent the scale, skew, // or rotation values from being made relative to the target // object's original transform. // __motion_Enemy_3.overrideTargetTransform(); // The following calls to addPropertyArray assign data values // for each tweened property. • Can I avoid a threaded UDP socket in Python dropping data?

    - by 666craig
    First off, I'm new to Python and learning on the job, so be gentle! I'm trying to write a threaded Python app for Windows that reads data from a UDP socket (thread-1), writes it to file (thread-2), and displays the live data (thread-3) to a widget (gtk.Image using a gtk.gdk.pixbuf). I'm using queues for communicating data between threads. My problem is that if I start only threads 1 and 3 (so skip the file writing for now), it seems that I lose some data after the first few samples. After this drop it looks fine. Even by letting thread 1 complete before running thread 3, this apparent drop is still there. Apologies for the length of code snippet (I've removed the thread that writes to file), but I felt removing code would just prompt questions. Hope someone can shed some light :-) import socket import threading import Queue import numpy import gtk gtk.gdk.threads_init() import gtk.glade import pygtk class readFromUDPSocket(threading.Thread): def __init__(self, socketUDP, readDataQueue, packetSize, numScans): threading.Thread.__init__(self) self.socketUDP = socketUDP self.readDataQueue = readDataQueue self.packetSize = packetSize self.numScans = numScans def run(self): for scan in range(1, self.numScans + 1): buffer = self.socketUDP.recv(self.packetSize) self.readDataQueue.put(buffer) self.socketUDP.close() print 'myServer finished!' class displayWithGTK(threading.Thread): def __init__(self, displayDataQueue, image, viewArea): threading.Thread.__init__(self) self.displayDataQueue = displayDataQueue self.image = image self.viewWidth = viewArea[0] self.viewHeight = viewArea[1] self.displayData = numpy.zeros((self.viewHeight, self.viewWidth, 3), dtype=numpy.uint16) def run(self): scan = 0 try: while True: if not scan % self.viewWidth: scan = 0 buffer = self.displayDataQueue.get(timeout=0.1) self.displayData[:, scan, 0] = numpy.fromstring(buffer, dtype=numpy.uint16) self.displayData[:, scan, 1] = numpy.fromstring(buffer, dtype=numpy.uint16) self.displayData[:, scan, 2] = numpy.fromstring(buffer, dtype=numpy.uint16) gtk.gdk.threads_enter() self.myPixbuf = gtk.gdk.pixbuf_new_from_data(self.displayData.tostring(), gtk.gdk.COLORSPACE_RGB, False, 8, self.viewWidth, self.viewHeight, self.viewWidth * 3) self.image.set_from_pixbuf(self.myPixbuf) self.image.show() gtk.gdk.threads_leave() scan += 1 except Queue.Empty: print 'myDisplay finished!' pass def quitGUI(obj): print 'Currently active threads: %s' % threading.enumerate() gtk.main_quit() if __name__ == '__main__': # Create socket (IPv4 protocol, datagram (UDP)) and bind to address socketUDP = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM) host = '192.168.1.5' port = 1024 socketUDP.bind((host, port)) # Data parameters samplesPerScan = 256 packetsPerSecond = 1200 packetSize = 512 duration = 1 # For now, set a fixed duration to log data numScans = int(packetsPerSecond * duration) # Create array to store data data = numpy.zeros((samplesPerScan, numScans), dtype=numpy.uint16) # Create queue for displaying from readDataQueue = Queue.Queue(numScans) # Build GUI from Glade XML file builder = gtk.Builder() builder.add_from_file('GroundVue.glade') window = builder.get_object('mainwindow') window.connect('destroy', quitGUI) view = builder.get_object('viewport') image = gtk.Image() view.add(image) viewArea = (1200, samplesPerScan) # Instantiate & start threads myServer = readFromUDPSocket(socketUDP, readDataQueue, packetSize, numScans) myDisplay = displayWithGTK(readDataQueue, image, viewArea) myServer.start() myDisplay.start() gtk.gdk.threads_enter() gtk.main() gtk.gdk.threads_leave() print 'gtk.main finished!'

  • Poor performance / speed of regex with lookahead

    - by Hugo Zaragoza
    I have been observing extremely slow execution times with expressions with several lookaheads. I suppose that this is due to underlying data structures, but it seems pretty extreme and I wonder if I do something wrong or if there are known work-arounds. The problem is determining if a set of words are present in a string, in any order. For example we want to find out if two terms "term1" AND "term2" are somewhere in a string. I do this with the expresion: (?=.*\bterm1\b)(?=.*\bterm2\b) But what I observe is that this is an order of magnitude slower than checking first just \bterm1\b and just then \bterm2\b This seems to indicate that I should use an array of patterns instead of a single pattern with lookaheads... is this right? it seems wrong... Here is an example test code and resulting times: public static void speedLookAhead() { Matcher m, m1, m2; boolean find; int its = 1000000; // create long non-matching string char[] str = new char[2000]; for (int i = 0; i < str.length; i++) { str[i] = 'x'; } String test = str.toString(); // First method: use one expression with lookaheads m = Pattern.compile("(?=.*\\bterm1\\b)(?=.*\\bterm2\\b)").matcher(test); long time = System.currentTimeMillis(); ; for (int i = 0; i < its; i++) { m.reset(test); find = m.find(); } time = System.currentTimeMillis() - time; System.out.println(time); // Second method: use two expressions and AND the results m1 = Pattern.compile("\\bterm1\\b").matcher(test); m2 = Pattern.compile("\\bterm2\\b").matcher(test); time = System.currentTimeMillis(); ; for (int i = 0; i < its; i++) { m1.reset(test); m2.reset(test); find = m1.find() && m2.find(); } time = System.currentTimeMillis() - time; System.out.println(time); } This outputs in my computer: 1754 150

  • JSP to Bean to Java class Validation

    - by littlevahn
    I have a rather simple form in JSP that looks like this: <form action="response.jsp" method="POST"> <label>First Name:</label><input type="text" name="firstName" /><br> <label>Last Name:</label><input type="text" name="lastName" /><br> <label>Email:</label><input type="text" name="email" /><br> <label>Re-enter Email:</label><input type="text" name="emailRe" /><br> <label>Address:</label><input type="text" name="address" /><br> <label>Address 2:</label><input type="text" name="address2" /><br> <label>City:</label><input type="text" name="city" /><br> <label>Country:</label> <select name="country"> <option value="0">--Country--</option> <option value="1">United States</option> <option value="2">Canada</option> <option value="3">Mexico</option> </select><br> <label>Phone:</label><input type="text" name="phone" /><br> <label>Alt Phone:</label><input type="text" name="phoneAlt" /><br> <input type="submit" value="submit" /> </form> But when I try and access the value of the select box in my Java class I get null. Ive tried reading it in as a String and an Array of strings neither though seems to be grabbing the right value. The response.jsp looks like this: <%@ page language="java" %> <%@ page import="java.util.*" %> <%@page contentType="text/html" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%> <%! %> <jsp:useBean id="formHandler" class="validation.RegHandler" scope="request"> <jsp:setProperty name="formHandler" property="*" /> </jsp:useBean> <% if (formHandler.validate()) { %> <jsp:forward page="success.jsp"/> <% } else { %> <jsp:forward page="retryReg.jsp"/> <% } %> I already have Java script validation in place but I wanted to make sure I covered validation and checking for non-JS users. The RegHandler just uses the name field to refer to the value in the form. Any Idea how I could access the select box's value?

  • User has many computers, computers have many attributes in different tables, best way to JOIN?

    - by krismeld
    I have a table for users: USERS: ID | NAME | ---------------- 1 | JOHN | 2 | STEVE | a table for computers: COMPUTERS: ID | USER_ID | ------------------ 13 | 1 | 14 | 1 | a table for processors: PROCESSORS: ID | NAME | --------------------------- 27 | PROCESSOR TYPE 1 | 28 | PROCESSOR TYPE 2 | and a table for harddrives: HARDDRIVES: ID | NAME | ---------------------------| 35 | HARDDRIVE TYPE 25 | 36 | HARDDRIVE TYPE 90 | Each computer can have many attributes from the different attributes tables (processors, harddrives etc), so I have intersection tables like this, to link the attributes to the computers: COMPUTER_PROCESSORS: C_ID | P_ID | --------------| 13 | 27 | 13 | 28 | 14 | 27 | COMPUTER_HARDDRIVES: C_ID | H_ID | --------------| 13 | 35 | So user JOHN, with id 1 owns computer 13 and 14. Computer 13 has processor 27 and 28, and computer 13 has harddrive 35. Computer 14 has processor 27 and no harddrive. Given a user's id, I would like to retrieve a list of that user's computers with each computers attributes. I have figured out a query that gives me a somewhat of a result: SELECT computers.id, processors.id AS p_id, processors.name AS p_name, harddrives.id AS h_id, harddrives.name AS h_name, FROM computers JOIN computer_processors ON (computer_processors.c_id = computers.id) JOIN processors ON (processors.id = computer_processors.p_id) JOIN computer_harddrives ON (computer_harddrives.c_id = computers.id) JOIN harddrives ON (harddrives.id = computer_harddrives.h_id) WHERE computers.user_id = 1 Result: ID | P_ID | P_NAME | H_ID | H_NAME | ----------------------------------------------------------- 13 | 27 | PROCESSOR TYPE 1 | 35 | HARDDRIVE TYPE 25 | 13 | 28 | PROCESSOR TYPE 2 | 35 | HARDDRIVE TYPE 25 | But this has several problems... Computer 14 doesnt show up, because it has no harddrive. Can I somehow make an OUTER JOIN to make sure that all computers show up, even if there a some attributes they don't have? Computer 13 shows up twice, with the same harddrive listet for both. When more attributes are added to a computer (like 3 blocks of ram), the number of rows returned for that computer gets pretty big, and it makes it had to sort the result out in application code. Can I somehow make a query, that groups the two returned rows together? Or a query that returns NULL in the h_name column in the second row, so that all values returned are unique? EDIT: What I would like to return is something like this: ID | P_ID | P_NAME | H_ID | H_NAME | ----------------------------------------------------------- 13 | 27 | PROCESSOR TYPE 1 | 35 | HARDDRIVE TYPE 25 | 13 | 28 | PROCESSOR TYPE 2 | 35 | NULL | 14 | 27 | PROCESSOR TYPE 1 | NULL | NULL | Or whatever result that make it easy to turn it into an array like this [13] => [P_NAME] => [0] => PROCESSOR TYPE 1 [1] => PROCESSOR TYPE 2 [H_NAME] => [0] => HARDDRIVE TYPE 25 [14] => [P_NAME] => [0] => PROCESSOR TYPE 1

  • Correct usage of socket_select().

    - by Mark Tomlin
    What is the correct way to use socket_select within PHP to send and receive data? I have a connection to the server that allows for both TCP & UDP packet connections, I am utilizing both. Within these connections I'm both sending and receiving packets on the same port, but the TCP packet will be sent on one port (29999) and UDP will be sent on another port (30000). The transmission type will be that of AF_INET. The IP address will be loopback 127.0.0.1. I have many questions on how to create a socket connection within this scenario. For example, is it better to use socket_create_pair to make the connection, or use just socket_create followed by socket_connect, and then implement socket_select? There is a chance that no data will be sent from the server to the client, and it is up to the client to maintain the connection. This will be done by utilizing the time out function within the socket_select call. Should no data be sent within the time limit, the socket_select function will break and a keep alive packet can then be sent. The following script is of the client. // Create $TCP = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, SOL_TCP); $UDP = socket_create(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, SOL_UDP); // Misc $isAlive = TRUE; $UDPPort = 30000; define('ISP_ISI', 1); // Connect socket_connect($TCP, '127.0.0.1', 29999); socket_connect($UDP, '127.0.0.1', $UDPPort); // Construct Parameters $recv = array($TCP, $UDP); $null = NULL; // Make The Packet to Send. $packet = pack('CCCxSSxCSa16a16', 44, ISP_ISI, 1, $UDPPort, 0, '!', 0, 'AdminPass', 'SocketSelect'); // Send ISI (InSim Init) Packet socket_write($TCP, $packet); /* Main Program Loop */ while ($isAlive == TRUE) { // Socket Select $sock = socket_select($recv, $null, $null, 5); // Check Status if ($sock === FALSE) $isAlive = FALSE; # Error else if ($sock > 0) # How does one check to find what socket changed? else # Something else happed, don't know what as it's not in the documentation, Could this be our timeout getting tripped? }

  • Can't get jQuery AutoComplete to work with External JSON

    - by rockinthesixstring
    I'm working on an ASP.NET app where I'm in need of jQuery AutoComplete. Currently there is nothing happening when I type data into the txt63 input box (and before you flame me for using a name like txt63, I know, I know... but it's not my call :D ). Here's my javascript code <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/jquery-ui.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://jquery-ui.googlecode.com/svn/tags/latest/external/jquery.bgiframe-2.1.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/i18n/jquery-ui-i18n.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> var theSource = '../RegionsAutoComplete.axd?PID=<%= hidden62.value %>' $(function () { $('#<%= txt63.ClientID %>').autocomplete({ source: theSource, minLength: 2, select: function (event, ui) { $('#<%= hidden63.ClientID %>').val(ui.item.id); } }); }); and here is my HTTP Handler Namespace BT.Handlers Public Class RegionsAutoComplete : Implements IHttpHandler Public ReadOnly Property IsReusable() As Boolean Implements System.Web.IHttpHandler.IsReusable Get Return False End Get End Property Public Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As System.Web.HttpContext) Implements System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest 'the page contenttype is plain text context.Response.ContentType = "application/json" context.Response.ContentEncoding = Encoding.UTF8 'set page caching context.Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddHours(24)) context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public) context.Response.Cache.SetSlidingExpiration(True) context.Response.Cache.VaryByParams("PID") = True Try ' use the RegionsDataContext Using RegionDC As New DAL.RegionsDataContext ' query the database based on the querysting PID Dim q = (From r In RegionDC.bt_Regions _ Where r.PID = context.Request.QueryString("PID") _ Select r.Region, r.ID) ' now we loop through the array ' and write out the ressults Dim sb As New StringBuilder sb.Append("{") For Each item In q sb.Append("""" & item.Region & """: """ & item.ID & """,") Next sb.Append("}") context.Response.Write(sb.ToString) End Using Catch ex As Exception HealthMonitor.Log(ex, False, "This error occurred while populating the autocomplete handler") End Try End Sub End Class End Namespace The rest of my ASPX page has the appropriate controls as I had this working with the old version of the jQuery library. I'm trying to get it working with the new one because I heard that the "dev" CDN was going to be obsolete. Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.

  • JSon/Jquery request with a setTimeout always returns a "null" result? (for Twitter Search API)

    - by supermogx
    I make a call to the twitter API. 100 posts are retreived + a properties that tells me what the next page to call is. So I wait 5 sec. and call that next page, but the JSon results in the callback function is always null the second time... I think it's probably a JQuery problem... Here's a complete sample HTML code : <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="./jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script> function test() { var rqUrl = "http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23apple+OR+%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=?" callTwitterSearchApi(rqUrl); } function callTwitterSearchApi(tiwtterRequestUrl) { debug("request to twitter : " + tiwtterRequestUrl); // *** FIRST CALL WORKS GREAT... *** $.getJSON(tiwtterRequestUrl, callTwitterSearchApi_callback); } function callTwitterSearchApi_callback(jsonPostsResults) { debug("callback"); if (jsonPostsResults == null) { debug("Why is jsonPostsResults null? If I copy paste the request inside a browser, I get something =("); return; } if (jsonPostsResults.error != undefined && jsonPostsResults.error != "") { debug("twitter api error"); } var posts = new Array(); $(jsonPostsResults.results).each(function() { posts.push(this); }); debug("Number of posts : " + posts.length); if (jsonPostsResults.next_page != undefined && jsonPostsResults.next_page.trim() != "") { debug("calling next request in 5 sec..."); // *** WHEN COMMING BACK FROM THAT LINE, JSON RESULTS == NULL?! **** setTimeout("callTwitterSearchApi(\"http://search.twitter.com/search.json" + jsonPostsResults.next_page + "\")", 5000); } } function debug(message) { document.getElementById('debug').innerHTML = message + "\n" + document.getElementById('debug').innerHTML; } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" onclick="test();" value="test" /><br /> <textarea id="debug" cols="80" rows="20"></textarea> </body> </html> at line 18, at the second callback (back from the setTimeout), the parameter "jsonPostsResults" is always returned as null... I have no idea why. If I copy paste that 2nd request in a browser, it returns 100 results. Anybody had a problem like that with the Ajax JQuery functions when calling it with a setTimeout?

  • Learning... anything really

    - by WebDevHobo
    I'm particularly interested in Windows PowerShell, but here's a somewhat more general complaint: When asking for help on learning something new, be it a small subject on PHP or understanding a class in Java, what usually happens is that people direct me towards the documentation pages. What I'm looking for is somewhat of a course. A deep explanation of why something works the way it does. I know my basic programming, like Java and C#. I've never seen C or C++, though I have seen a bit of assembler. I know what the Stack and Heap are, how boxing and unboxing works, why you have to deep-copy an array instead of copying the pointer and some other things. Windows PowerShell on the other hand, I know nothing about. And I notice that when reading the small document or some code, I usually forget what it does or why it works. What I am looking for is preferably, a nice tutorial that explains the beginnings, the concepts, and goes to more difficult things at a steady pace. The only thing documentation can do is explain what a function does. That's no good to me since I don't know what I want to do yet. I could read about a thousand functions, and forget about most of them, because I don't need to implement them right after it. Randomly wandering through the documentation doesn't do me any good. So conclude, what is a good tutorial on Windows Powershell? One which explains in clear language what is happening, one which builds on previous things learned. I don't think googling this is a good idea. Doing a Google search on this would turn up numerous tutorials. And experience tells me that you have to look long and hard to find the gem you're looking for. That's why I'm asking here. Because this is the place where you can find more experienced people. Many of the PowerShell guys among you will know the good ones already, and by asking you, I avoid wasting time that could be spent learning. So to summarize: I will not google this!

  • Flex DataGrid not Displaying Data

    - by asawilliams
    I have a custom dataGrid that acts more like a 2D list (if that makes sense at all). I am dynamically creating the columns and recreating the dataProvider to suit my needs. While debugging I can see that I am creating the columns and setting them to the dataGrid and creating and setting the dataProvider, but for some reason I am able to see the dataGrid and the columns but not the data. [Bindable] private var mockData:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([ {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}, {value: "425341*"}]); ... <TwoDimensionalList width="100%" height="100%" numColumns="7" numRows="7" dataField="value" dataProvider="{mockData}"/> The snippet of code from the object only contains the important functions, everything else is not important (getters, setters, etc ...). While debugging I checked all the variables in the functions to make sure they were assigned and a value that I was expecting. [Snippet] public class TwoDimensionalList extends DataGrid { ... /** * Creates and sets properties of columns */ private function createColumns():void { var column:DataGridColumn; var cols:Array = this.columns; for(var i:uint=0; i < numColumns; i++) { column = new DataGridColumn("column"+i.toString()); column.dataField = "column"+i.toString(); cols[i]=column; } this.columns = cols; // go to the current gotoPage(this._currentPageNum); } /** * Sets the data for the dataprovider based on the * number of columns, rows, and page number. * * @param pageNum the page number of the data to be viewed in the DataGrids. */ private function gotoPage(pageNum:uint):void { _currentPageNum = pageNum; var startIndex:uint = (pageNum-1)*numColumns*numRows; var data:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); for(var i:uint=0; i < numRows; i++) { var obj:Object = new Object(); for(var j:uint=0; j < numColumns; j++) { if((i+(j*numRows)+startIndex) < _dataProvider.length) obj["column"+j.toString()] = String(_dataProvider.getItemAt(i+(j*numRows)+startIndex)["value"]); } data.addItem(obj); } this.dataProvider = data; } }

  • AngularJS recursive directive with a dynamic HTML template (bounty)

    - by Nazar Sobchuk
    I have a realy hard task here. I am working on an AngularJS web app, which is capable of sending different HTTP methods to our project's Restful Web Service and receiving responses in JSON. Basicaly it looks like this: You can create some REST resource from this application. Let's say an exam. To create an exam - you pick a resource from a list of available resources. This triggers a function, that sends a request to localhost:8080/STEP/api/explain/resorceName and gets a description for this resource. Description looks like this: http://jsonblob.com/534fc022e4b0bb44248d6460 After receiving a response - I start building input fields like follows (allFields - array of field objects for this resource, enumValues - enum values for resource's field if it's property isEnum = true): <div ng-repeat="field in allFields"> <div ng-show={{!field.isEnum}}> <p ng-show={{field.isRequired}}>{{field.name}}*: </p> <p ng-show={{!field.isRequired}}>{{field.name}}: </p> <input type="text" ng-model="updateEntityResource[field.name]" ng-change="getUpdateEntityAsText()" class="form-control" placeholder="{{parseClassName(field.type)}}"> </div> <div ng-show={{field.isEnum}}> <p ng-show={{field.isRequired}}>{{field.name}}*: </p> <p ng-show={{!field.isRequired}}>{{field.name}}: </p> <select ng-model="updateEntityResource[field.name]" ng-change="getUpdateEntityAsText()" class="form-control"> <option></option> <option ng-repeat="enumValue in field.enumValues" label={{enumValue.name}}>{{enumValue.ordinal}}</option> </select> </div> </div> Now, the problem. I need to create a recursive directive, which would be capable of generating fields in such maner as described above for every resource's field that has "restResourceName" not null. To get all it's fields you just send a request to localhost:8080/STEP/api/explain/restResourceName and get similar JSON response as shown above, which is then used to build HTML elements for inputing values into model. Does anyone know how this can be achieved using angular recursive directive? Every useful answer is highly appreciated and evaluated. The correct answer will get +50 or I will start a bounty, because I'm realy stuck with this for 2 days. If you need any additional info - let me know. Thank you.

  • How to pass operators as parameters

    - by Rodion Ingles
    I have to load an array of doubles from a file, multiply each element by a value in a table (different values for different elements), do some work on it, invert the multiplication (that is, divide) and then save the data back to file. Currently I implement the multiplication and division process in two separate methods. Now there is some extra work behind the scenes but apart from the specific statements where the multiplication/division occurs, the rest of the code is identical. As you can imagine, with this approach you have to be very careful making any changes. The surrounding code is not trivial, so its either a case of manually editing each method or copying changes from one method to the other and remembering to change the * and / operators. After too many close calls I am fed up of this and would like to make a common function which implements the common logic and two wrapper functions which pass which operator to use as a parameter. My initial approach was to use function pointers: MultiplyData(double data) { TransformData(data, &(operator *)); } DivideData(double data) { TransformData(data, &(operator /)); } TransformData(double data, double (*func)(double op1, double op2)) { /* Do stuff here... */ } However, I can't pass the operators as pointers (is this because it is an operator on a native type?), so I tried to use function objects. Initially I thought that multiplies and divides functors in <functional> would be ideal: MultiplyData(double data) { std::multiplies<double> multFunct; TransformData(data, &multFunct); } DivideData(double data) { std::divides<double> divFunct; TransformData(data, &divFunct); } TransformData(double data, std::binary_function<double, double, double> *funct) { /* Do stuff here... */ } As you can see I was trying to use a base class pointer to pass the functor polymorphically. The problem is that std::binary_function does not declare an operator() member for the child classes to implement. Is there something I am missing, or is the solution to implement my own functor heirarchy (which really seems more trouble than it is worth)?

  • Combining FileStream and MemoryStream to avoid disk accesses/paging while receiving gigabytes of data?

    - by w128
    I'm receiving a file as a stream of byte[] data packets (total size isn't known in advance) that I need to store somewhere before processing it immediately after it's been received (I can't do the processing on the fly). Total received file size can vary from as small as 10 KB to over 4 GB. One option for storing the received data is to use a MemoryStream, i.e. a sequence of MemoryStream.Write(bufferReceived, 0, count) calls to store the received packets. This is very simple, but obviously will result in out of memory exception for large files. An alternative option is to use a FileStream, i.e. FileStream.Write(bufferReceived, 0, count). This way, no out of memory exceptions will occur, but what I'm unsure about is bad performance due to disk writes (which I don't want to occur as long as plenty of memory is still available) - I'd like to avoid disk access as much as possible, but I don't know of a way to control this. I did some testing and most of the time, there seems to be little performance difference between say 10 000 consecutive calls of MemoryStream.Write() vs FileStream.Write(), but a lot seems to depend on buffer size and the total amount of data in question (i.e the number of writes). Obviously, MemoryStream size reallocation is also a factor. Does it make sense to use a combination of MemoryStream and FileStream, i.e. write to memory stream by default, but once the total amount of data received is over e.g. 500 MB, write it to FileStream; then, read in chunks from both streams for processing the received data (first process 500 MB from the MemoryStream, dispose it, then read from FileStream)? Another solution is to use a custom memory stream implementation that doesn't require continuous address space for internal array allocation (i.e. a linked list of memory streams); this way, at least on 64-bit environments, out of memory exceptions should no longer be an issue. Con: extra work, more room for mistakes. So how do FileStream vs MemoryStream read/writes behave in terms of disk access and memory caching, i.e. data size/performance balance. I would expect that as long as enough RAM is available, FileStream would internally read/write from memory (cache) anyway, and virtual memory would take care of the rest. But I don't know how often FileStream will explicitly access a disk when being written to. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Live search results as you type... am I going about this the right way? jQuery + PHP

    - by dallen
    This is my first time building a tool like this, so please bare with me. I'm doing this to learn more about jQuery and AJAX. Basically, I have a search input and a hidden div. When you start typing in the search input, the hidden div becomes visible and results are brought in. In this case, I'm searching for client names. It all works fine, however I think my code could be better but I'm not sure exactly where to begin. Each keyup requests a PHP script which accesses a table in a database to find a like string. But in my PHP script, I'm echo'ing some JS/jQuery which I'm not sure is good practice. Below is my code. Am I going about this the right way or am I totally off base? Any suggestions for improvement? Javascript $("#search").keyup(function() { $("#search_results").show("fast"); $.ajax ({ type: "POST", url: "http://localhost:8888/index.php/welcome/search/" + $("#search").val(), success: function(html) { $("#search_results").html(html); } }); }); PHP function search($search_string = false) { if ($search_string) { $this->db->like('name', $search_string); $query = $this->db->get('clients'); if ($query->num_rows() == 0) { echo "No client exists."; } else { foreach ($query->result() as $row) { echo '<script>'; echo ' $("#client_results_'.$row->id.'").hide(); $("#'.$row->id.'").toggle(function() { $.ajax ({ type: "POST", url: "http://localhost:8888/index.php/welcome/search_client_ads/" + '.$row->id.', success: function(html) { $("#client_results_'.$row->id.'").html(html).show("fast"); } }); }, function() { $("#client_results_'.$row->id.'").hide("fast").html(""); });'; echo '</script>'; echo '<p><span id="'.$row->id.'">'.$row->name.'</span></p>'; echo '<div id="client_results_'.$row->id.'"></div>'; } } } else { echo ''; } } function search_client_ads($client_id) { $query = $this->db->get_where('online_ads', array('client' => $client_id)); if ($query->num_rows() == 0) { echo "No ads exist."; } else { foreach ($query->result() as $row) { echo $row->id; } } }

  • Header Guard Issues - Getting Swallowed Alive

  • I need help converting a C# string from one character encoding to another?

    - by Handleman
    According to Spolsky I can't call myself a developer, so there is a lot of shame behind this question... Scenario: From a C# application, I would like to take a string value from a SQL db and use it as the name of a directory. I have a secure (SSL) FTP server on which I want to set the current directory using the string value from the DB. Problem: Everything is working fine until I hit a string value with a "special" character - I seem unable to encode the directory name correctly to satisfy the FTP server. The code example below uses "special" character é as an example uses WinSCP as an external application for the ftps comms does not show all the code required to setup the Process "_winscp". sends commands to the WinSCP exe by writing to the process standardinput for simplicity, does not get the info from the DB, but instead simply declares a string (but I did do a .Equals to confirm that the value from the DB is the same as the declared string) makes three attempts to set the current directory on the FTP server using different string encodings - all of which fail makes an attempt to set the directory using a string that was created from a hand-crafted byte array - which works Process _winscp = new Process(); byte[] buffer; string nameFromString = "Sinéad O'Connor"; _winscp.StandardInput.WriteLine("cd \"" + nameFromString + "\""); buffer = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(nameFromString); _winscp.StandardInput.WriteLine("cd \"" + Encoding.UTF8.GetString(buffer) + "\""); buffer = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(nameFromString); _winscp.StandardInput.WriteLine("cd \"" + Encoding.ASCII.GetString(buffer) + "\""); byte[] nameFromBytes = new byte[] { 83, 105, 110, 130, 97, 100, 32, 79, 39, 67, 111, 110, 110, 111, 114 }; _winscp.StandardInput.WriteLine("cd \"" + Encoding.Default.GetString(nameFromBytes) + "\""); The UTF8 encoding changes é to 101 (decimal) but the FTP server doesn't like it. The ASCII encoding changes é to 63 (decimal) but the FTP server doesn't like it. When I represent é as value 130 (decimal) the FTP server is happy, except I can't find a method that will do this for me (I had to manually contruct the string from explicit bytes). Anyone know what I should do to my string to encode the é as 130 and make the FTP server happy and finally elevate me to level 1 developer by explaining the only single thing a developer should understand?

  • Lift session valid ajax callback from a static javascript

    - by ChrisJamesC
    I am currently implementing a graph visualisation tool using lift on the server side and d3 ( a javascript visualisation framework) for all the visualisation. The problem I have is that in the script I want to get session dependent data from the server. So basically, my objective is to write lift-valid ajax callbacks in a static js script. Here is what I tried so far: What I have tried so far If you feel that the best solution is one that I already tried feel free to post a detailed answer telling me how to use it exactly and how it completely solves my problem. REST interface Usually what one would do to get data from a javascript function in lift is to create a REST interface. However this interface will not be linked to any session. This is the solution I got from my previous question: Get json data in d3 from lift snippet Give function as argument of script Another solution would be to give the ajaxcallback as an argument of the main script called to generate my graph. However I expect to have a lot of callbacks and I don't want to have to mess with the arguments of my script. Write the ajax callback in another script using lift and call it from the main script This solution, which is similar to a hidden text input is probably the more likely to work. However it is not elegant and it would mean that I would have to load a lot of scripts on load, which is not really conveniant. Write the whole script in lift and then serve it to the client This solution can be elegant, however my script is very long and I would really prefer that it remainss static. What I want On client side While reviewing the source code of my webpage I found that the callback for an ajaxSelect is: <select onchange="liftAjax.lift_ajaxHandler('F966066257023LYKF4=' + encodeURIComponent(this.value), null, null, null)" name="F96606625703QXTSWU" id="node_delete" class="input"> Moreover, there is a variable containing the state of the page in the end of the webpage: var lift_page = "F96606625700QRXLDO"; So, I am wondering if it is possible to simulate that my ajaxcall is valid using this liftAjax.lift_ajaxHandler function. However I don't know the exact synthax to use. On server side Since I "forged" a request on client side, I would now like to get the request on client side and to dispatch it to the correct function. This is where the LiftRules.dispatch object seems the best solution: when it is called, all the session management has been made (the request is authentified and linked to a session), however I don't know how to write the correct piece of code in the append function. Remark In lift all names of variables are changed to a random string in order to increase the security, I would like to have the same behavior in my application even if that will probably mean that I will have to "give" the javascript these values. However an array of 15 string values is still a better tradeoff than 15 functions as argument of a javascript function.

  • Having a Link Only Appear If a Logged-In User Appears on a Dynamic List

    - by John
    Hello, For the function below, I would like the link <div class="footervote"><a href="http://www...com/.../footervote.php">Vote</a></div> to only appear if the logged in user currently appears on editorlist.php. (I. e. if the loginid in the function corresponds to any of the usernames that currently appear in editorlist.php.) Appearing on editorlist.php is something that is dynamic. How can I do this? Thanks in advance, John function show_userbox() { // retrieve the session information $u = $_SESSION['username']; $uid = $_SESSION['loginid']; // display the user box echo '<div id="userbox"> <div class="username">'.$u.'</div> <div class="submit"><a href="http://www...com/.../submit.php">Submit an item.</a></div> <div class="changepassword"><a href="http://www...com/.../changepassword.php">Change Password</a></div> <div class="logout"><a href="http://www...com/.../logout.php">Logout</a></div> <div class="footervote"><a href="http://www...com/.../footervote.php">Vote</a></div> </div>'; } On editorlist.php: $sqlStr = "SELECT l.loginid, l.username, l.created, DATEDIFF(NOW(), l.created) AS days, COALESCE(s.total, 0) AS countSubmissions, COALESCE(c.total, 0) AS countComments, COALESCE(s.total, 0) * 10 + COALESCE(c.total, 0) AS totalScore, DATEDIFF(NOW(), l.created) + COALESCE(s.total, 0) * 10 + COALESCE(c.total, 0) AS totalScore2 FROM login l LEFT JOIN ( SELECT loginid, COUNT(1) AS total FROM submission GROUP BY loginid ) s ON l.loginid = s.loginid LEFT JOIN ( SELECT loginid, COUNT(1) AS total FROM comment GROUP BY loginid ) c ON l.loginid = c.loginid GROUP BY l.loginid ORDER BY totalScore2 DESC LIMIT 10"; $result = mysql_query($sqlStr); $arr = array(); echo "<table class=\"samplesrec1edit\">"; while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo '<tr>'; echo '<td class="sitename1edit1"><a href="http://www...com/.../members/index.php?profile='.$row["username"].'">'.stripslashes($row["username"]).'</a></td>'; echo '<td class="sitename1edit2">'.($row["countSubmissions"]).'</td>'; echo '<td class="sitename1edit2">'.($row["countComments"]).'</td>'; echo '<td class="sitename1edit2">'.($row["days"]).'</td>'; echo '<td class="sitename1edit2">'.($row["totalScore2"]).'</td>'; echo '</tr>'; } echo "</table>";
